Jacqueline Joan 'J.J.' Feld, 31, of 4404 Hickory Wind Lane, Marion, died Tuesday, February 12, 2002, in Mercy Medical Center of complications from pneumonia. Services at 10 AM Friday at the Chapel of Mercy, Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids with Reverend David O'Connor of All Saints Catholic Church officiating. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday with a wake service beginning at 7 PM.
J.J. is survived by her parents, Drs. Thomas and Donna Feld of Marion; her brother Bill of Scottsdale, Arizona; and her maternal grandparents Manley and Charlotte Jorstad of Morris, Illinois: an aunt and uncle, Dr. Joan McGuire and husband James of Peru, Illinois; and an aunt Judy Feld of Carroll, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Ed and Elaine Feld; an uncle, Jay Edward Feld, and an uncle Bill Feld.
J.J. was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on April 8, 1970, and moved with her family to Cedar Rapids in 1977. She graduated from Linn Mar High School in 1990, and she has been employed at Roush Products and Aegon. She was an active volunteer in campus ministry at Mount Mercy College and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.
A memorial fund in her name has been established at Mount Mercy College.

William G. Mochal, 43, 2424 E Ave NE died suddenly Tuesday March 12, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center. Mass of the Resurrection: 10:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Friday at Turner Chapel East where a Vigil Service will be held at 7 PM. The Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate.
Surviving in addition to his wife Karen are three sons, Bradley, Matthew, and Bryan all at home; his parents, Wayne and Elsie Mochal of Cedar Rapids; his mother in law, Marilyn Brose of Cedar Rapids; eight sisters, Cathy Lake and husband Stuart of Amarillo, TX, Becky Cooley and husband Don of Mishicot, WI, Deb Boothe and husband Don of Sterling, CO, Liz Smith and husband Bob of Maquoketa, Sharon Mochal of Grinnell, Tracee Leeka and husband Matt of Holland, MI, Amy Vega and husband Carlos of Cedar Rapids, and Shelly Mochal of Minneapolis, MN; six brothers, Jim Mochal and wife Connie of Muncie, IN, Tom Mochal and wife Pam of Kennesaw, GA, Dave Mochal and wife Sue of Cedar Rapids, Dennis Mochal and wife Barb of Olathe, KS, Rod Mochal and wife Julie of Davenport, and Jeff Mochal and wife Erika of Sherman Oaks, CA; his grandmother, Velma DeKlotz of Newhall; a sister in law, Kathi Nelsen and husband Curt of Cedar Rapids; a brother in law, Gary Brose and wife Shelli of Wayland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother Robbie.
Bill was born October 10, 1958 in Cedar Rapids the beloved son of Wayne and Elsie DeKlotz Mochal. He graduated from Regis High School in 1977. He married Karen Taylor on September 12, 1981 in Cedar Rapids. Bill was a courier for Federal Express for over 5 years. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. He enjoyed golf and fishing and was an avid racing fan.
Instead of flowers memorials may be made to Bill's family.

Richard E. Cayler

Richard E. Cayler, 81, of 1050 24th Street, Marion, passed away at his home of 48 years on Tuesday, March 12, 2002, after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. He was brought home to be cared for by his loving family until his death. Services with Marion Police and Fire Honor Guard will be at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Steve Hindman chaplain of St. Luke's Hospice will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Saturday.
Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth (Nielsen); his two sons, Timothy of Denver, Colorado, and Gaylen(Ruby) of Littleton, Colorado; two sisters, Janet (Gayle) Boyer and Joan (Donald) Bahm, both of Marion; a brother, Jim (Ann) Cayler of Topeka, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Lori, Traci, Mike, Trent, Josh, Jessica, Marijane, Andrea, and Josephine, 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gaylen, and a son Richard Cayler Jr.
Richard was born in Dolliver, Iowa on July 21, 1920 to Clifford and Ferne Cayler. He was a US Army World War II veteran and a Purple Heart Recipient. During his lifetime Richard was the Chief of the Marion Fire Department as well as the Chief of Marion Police Department. In his 'retirement' years, Richard worked at Katz Salvage/Marion Iron. He was an athlete who competed in basketball and softball as well as being an avid golfer. He was also a member of the Iowa Chief of Police Association, and the Marion American Legion Post No 298.
Memorial contributions in Richard's name may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of St. Luke's Hospital.
Richard was a wonderful storyteller, we all enjoyed his tales of his life's experiences.
Richard was a loving, kind and wise man who loved life and lived it to its fullest. All who have loved him and have been loved by him will miss him greatly.

James A. Kennedy, M.D.

James A. Kennedy, M.D. 81, a resident of the Bickford Cottage in Marion, formerly of Coralville, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Services at 3 PM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Kenneth Ornell of Christ Episcopal Church will officiate. Graveside services and interment at 4:45 PM on Friday in the Oak Hill cemetery in Coralville. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Friday.
Survivors include two daughters Susan Elkin and husband Randy of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Anne Salamon and husband Paul of Cedar Rapids, a son Michael Paul Kennedy of Naples, Florida, a brother George Kennedy and wife Jeanne of Virginia Beach, Virginia, a grandson Karl James Salamon, and his former secretary and good friend Theresa Lenger of North Liberty, Iowa. He was preceded in death by a daughter Jean Carol Kennedy in 1992, six brothers and two sisters.
James was born November 29, 1920 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Joseph Edward and Mary Grosnick Kennedy. He married Barbara Nevada Timm on March 13, 1945 in Madison, Wisconsin. They later divorced and she died February 18, 1971. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison, Wisconsin. He was a Psychiatrist at the VA Hospital in Knoxville and then at the VA Hospital in Coralville for 30 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of the American Medical Association, American Psychiatry Association, Iowa Psychiatry Association, and the Johnson County Medical Society. He served with the US Army Medical Corps during WW II. He also was a member of the Coralville American Legion and the Isaac Walton League.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Eastern, Iowa.

John R. Battin

John R. (Demmy) Battin, 73, of 426 29th St. Dr. S.E., died Tuesday at St. Luke’s Hospital following a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at the Bethany Lutheran Church by Rev. Donald Loesch officiating. Inunrment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and at the church after 10 a.m. on Monday.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Amy Leone (Paul) and twin granddaughters, Madeline and Margaret of Lakewood, Colorado; a sister, Barbara Darby (Ralph), of Rochester, Michigan; a sister in law, Marie Battin of Brookfield, Wisconsin; five cousins, four nieces and one nephew.
His parents and a brother, Douglas Battin, preceded him in death.
John was born December 5, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, the son of the late John R. and Leota (Croson) Battin. On December 28, 1957, he married Patricia Hutt in Cedar Rapids. John recided in Cedar Rapids his entire life.
A 1947 graduate of Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids, John earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Coe College in 1951, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
John was employed as an agent by the National Life Insurance Company of Vermont from 1951 until the time of his death. During his lengthy insurance career, John achieved many awards, including the Newell C. Day Award for Life Underwriter of the Year from the Iowa Association of Life Underwriters. He was a member of both the Iowa and National Life Underwriters Associations, he held several offices and served on numerous committees during his lengthy tenure with both associations.
Throughout his life, John devoted his spare time to community service and activities. His many contributions to the community included service with the following organizations and committees: chairman, Annexation Committee of the City of Cedar Rapids; past president, Cedar Rapids Junior Chamber of Commerce; past president, Cedar Rapids Exchange Club; former chairman, Cedar Rapids Recreation Commission; former chairman, Iowa Parks and Recreation Association; former chairman, National Coe College Alumni Association; member, Coe College Board of Trustees; member, Tau Kappa Epsilon Alumni; former president, Cedar Rapids P.T.S.A.; and former board member, Iowa Council of Camp Fire Girls.
John was honored with a variety of awards for his community service over the years, including the Distinguished Civic Service Award, presented by the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce. He was selected for the Outstanding Young Men of America, and he was the recipient of the Junior Chamber International Senatorship. In 1980, John received the Luther Halsey Gulick Award from the Camp Fire Girls, the highest national award for a Camp Fire volunteer. In addition, John served his church community in a variety of capacities, culminating with membership at Bethany Lutheran Church.
John was a passionate sports fan with a special affinity for the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He thoroughly enjoyed his family and friends, and will be greatly missed.

Stella Woltmann

Stella Woltmann, 95, of Crestview Acres joined the Lord on Wednesday March 13, 2002. Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday at Turner Chapel West where friends may call from 2 to 4 PM Sunday. Burial: 2:00 P.M. Monday at Memory Gardens cemetery in Iowa City. The Rev. Jim Trosen will officiate.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Ales and husband Dan of Cedar Rapids; three granddaughters, Sheryl Walker and husband Robert of Minnetouka, MN, Sue Clow and husband Joseph of Fond du Lac, WI, and Sharon Langenberg and husband David of Cedar Rapids; a grandson, Paul Ales and wife Tammy of Muscatine; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Donald Lee Woltmann, a brother, Isaac Bert Kinser, a sister, Cloa M. Fries, and 5 half brothers.
Stella was born May 29, 1906 in Soldier, KY the beloved daughter of John H. and Mary E. Caudill Kinser. She married Alfred Woltmann on December 24, 1924 in Walnut. He died in 1968 after 43 years of marriage.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her family and friends, and loved to cook and bake for them. She also enjoyed gardening.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Gerald Condon will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the chapel after noon on Wednesday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include two sons Michael and wife Cathy of Raleigh, North Carolina, Ken of Des Moines, Iowa, and two daughters Kathleen Ann Jones and husband David of Grinnell and Mary Cimo of Dover, Delaware.
Also survived by six grandchildren.
Mary was born June 4, 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Neil and Anna Ardoff Canning. She worked in telephone sales for Sears and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church.
