Colleen Johnson

Colleen Evon Johnson, 61, of Burlington, died at 4:25 a.m. Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born March 29, 1940, in Junction City, Kan., she was the daughter of Ace and Christina Christensen Williams. She married Dennis Wright Johnson Sr. on June 2, 1957, in Junction City, Kan. He died March 19, 1983.
Mrs. Johnson worked as a department manager for Montgomery Ward since 1993.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hastings, Neb.

Survivors include three daughters, Martha "Christine" Ealy and Elisabeth A. Johnson, both of Wichita, Kan., and Kathryn L. Johnson of Henderson, Nev.; one son, Dennis W. Johnson Jr. of Hastings; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Lawrence Williams of Salina, Kan.; and two sisters, Helen Hodge and Irma Keffer, both of Junction City.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, one granddaughter and two sisters.

Visitation will begin at noon today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Johnson will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. William King officiating.

A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.

Jane Leffler

Jane Anne Leffler, 61, of Burlington, formerly of Winfield and Colorado, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at her home.

Born Nov. 5, 1939, in Goodell, she was the daughter of Lloyd Zolle and Wilma Pauline Leeper Patton.
Mrs. Leffler was a 1957 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1961 graduate of Burlington Beauty Academy. She worked in production for AntennaCraft for 14 years, for Vega Industries and the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. She also worked for Dorothea's Beauty Shop.

She was a member of First Christian Church, where her father was a former pastor. She lived for her grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Wendy M. Leffler of Hot Springs, Ark.; one son, Thomas L. Leffler Jr. of Burlington; two granddaughters; three brothers, L. Wendell Patton of West Burlington, Robert L. Patton of Wayland and Mark A. Patton of Winter Springs, Fla.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, including her twin.

Friends may call after 8 a.m. Wednesday in Lunning Chapel. There will be no family visitation.

The graveside funeral service for Mrs. Leffler will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Aspen Grove Cemetery , with Robert Patton officiating.

A memorial has been established.

Robert Champagne

Robert Champagne, 81, of Burlington, died at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 31, 1919, in Burlington, he was the son of Eugene T. and Fern Bettinger Champagne. He married Muriel Busch on Oct. 19, 1957, in Burlington.
Mr. Champagne was a 1937 graduate of Burlington High School and a lifelong resident of Burlington. He worked at IRC, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion, Burlington Elks Club and a bowling league. He was a great cook and loved to golf, fish, work crossword puzzles, be with his family, listen to music of all kinds and entertain.

He is survived by his wife and one sister, Patricia Champagne of Burlington.

He was preceded by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at Eicher-Sheagren Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Champagne will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Trevor Davis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for his church.

Doris Bullington

Doris "Dee" Bullington, 60, of Richardson, Texas, died after a lengthy illness Friday morning, April 27, 2001.

Mrs. Bullington was a Plano Independent School District elementary school teacher, teaching at Mendenhall and Memorial schools. She also taught in Burlington.
She was a 32-year resident of Richardson. She was of the Episcopal faith.

Survivors include one son, Stanwood Bullington of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Christine Sitton of Dallas; five grandchildren; her father, William Stanwood Perry III of Nacogdoches, Texas; and one brother, William Stanwood Perry IV of San Diego.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at Ted Dickey Funeral Home in Plano.

The funeral for Mrs. Bullington will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in Plano. Burial will be in Plano Mutual Cemetery.

Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th St., Plano, Texas 75074, is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret C. Weigert

The funeral service for Mrs. Margaret C. Weigert, 91, of New London, who died April 25, 2001, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Matt Miller will officiate. Interment will be in Burge Cemetery , New London. Visitation will begin at noon today at Elliott Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for the New London United Methodist Church and the New London Rescue Unit.

Madonna Mansheim

Madonna Mary Burke Mansheim, 65, of St. Louis Park, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Jerome; two sons, Michael and Joseph; two daughters, Laura Robinson and Vickie Fredendall; six grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Ann Bosley and Pat Robinson; and one brother, Larry Burke.
The Mass of Christian burial was Friday at the Church of the Holy Family in St. Louis Park. Burial was in Fort Snelling.

Memorials have been established for Sharing & Caring Hands and The STEP Food Shelf.

Gearty-Delmore was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Schwartz

Margaret Olivia Schwartz, 87, of Burlington, died at 9:05 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Jan. 28, 1914, in Ulrika, Sweden, she was the daughter of Eric Verner and Signe Amalia Charlotta Johanson Gustafson. On Aug. 7, 1937, she married Harry C. Schwartz in West Burlington. He died July 27, 1990.
Mrs. Schwartz was a rural school teacher at Amity School in Huron Township near Mediapolis.

She came to the United States with her family in 1920. She was a graduate of Mediapolis High School and later received her teaching certificate. She was of the Lutheran faith and enjoyed antiques, traveling, pets and her family.

Survivors include one brother, Eric Gustafson of Mediapolis; two sisters, her twin, Elsie Scott of Dubuque, and Alice Lee of Mediapolis; six nieces and nephews; and 16 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one nephew.

There will be no visitation.

The graveside service for Mrs. Schwartz will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Aspen Grove Cemetery , with the Rev. Carl Engstrom officiating.

A memorial has been established.

Mildred Boese

Mildred Elizabeth Boese, 78, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Sept. 21, 1922, in Atlanta, Mo., she was the daughter of Otis and Laura Blanche Lyda Harrison. On May 20, 1939, she married Roy Beebe in Palmyra, Mo. He died in 1982. On May 2, 1964, she married Art Boese in Knox City, Mo. He died in 1983.
Mrs. Boese worked for Midwest Biscuit Co., Harrison House, the Depot and Emerson Electric factory.

She was of the Methodist faith. She was a member of Eagles Lodge Aerie 1927.

Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Walker of Lockridge, Janet Ullrich of West Burlington and Patricia Kern of Wolf City, Texas; one son, Leroy Beebe of Lockridge; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Marjorie Hourihan of Mount Pleasant, Dorothy Morris of Lockridge and Adra Barr of West Burlington.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister and one son.

Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Boese will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Dixie Everett

Dixie Cline Everett, 55, of Edgewood, formerly of Mediapolis, died of cancer Sunday, June 24, 2001, at her home.

Born Feb. 15, 1946, in Centerville, she was the daughter of Ira and Juanita Foglesong. She married Gary Cline on Sept. 14, 1963, and they had three daughters. She later married Ed Everett on July 25, 1987.
Mrs. Everett worked part-time as a custodian at Edgewood-Colesburg High School.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Hope Circle, Memorial Committee and also was a trustee. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed camping, garage sales, flea markets and entertaining guests. She was a hard worker, always serving others and welcoming everyone with open arms. She was known as a great cook and truly enjoyed cooking for others.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Terri Sannes of Duluth, Minn., Melissa Buchanan of Lake in the Hills, Ill., and Annie Cline of Strawberry Point; two stepdaughters, Deb Elledge and Jody Burgin, both of Edgewood; two stepsons, Randy Everett of Edgewood and Scott Everett of St. Cloud, Fla.; her parents of Moulton; six brothers, Larry Foglesong of Ballground, Ga., Lonnie Foglesong of Colona, Ill., Claire, Bobbie and Lynn Foglesong, all of Moulton, and Phil Foglesong of Centerville; one sister, Sheila Kaufman of Albia; 16 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

The funeral for Mrs. Everett was June 27 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Edgewood, with the Revs. Kent Newlon and Scott Kisker officiating. Burial was in Edgewood Cemetery.

Leonard Funeral Home in Edgewood was in charge of arrangements.

Frances Cummings

Frances Tustison Cummings passed away on June 26, 2001, in Collierville, Tenn. A former resident of Burlington, Iowa. Born in Wapello, Iowa, on April 9, 1905, to Jessie and Charles Tustison. She married W. Floyd Cummings on August 21, 1923, who passed away on July 9, 1981. She is survived by a daughter, (Peggy) Jeanne Hart of Salida, Colo.; one grandson, Bruce Hart, a native of Burlington, married to Barbara Hart of Collierville, Tenn.; and one granddaughter, Wilburna Wakefield of Moline, Ill. Two great-granddaughters also survive her; Julie Williams, married to Jason Williams of Waynesville, Mo., and Janet Hart of Collierville, Tenn. Also surviving are two great-great-grandchildren, Ashley and Garrett Williams of Waynesville, Mo. Memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for over 65 years, at 10 a.m. June 30, 2001. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Burlington, Iowa.

Frances Foster

Frances Pearson Larson Foster, 86, of Waukon, formerly of Burlington, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon.

Born Aug. 9, 1914, in Postville, she was the daughter of Chester and Eula Jones Pearson. On Dec. 21, 1932, she married Sydney I. Larson. She later married James R. Foster in Cedar Rapids.
She graduated from Postville High School in 1931 and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette. In her early years, she enjoyed the sport of basketball, as an avid fan and as a good player.

Survivors include three daughters, Francene Quick of Bettendorf, Marlene Butts of Burlington, Mary Cathrine Cory of Elkader; and one son, Spencer Larson of Burlington; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, and two sisters.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville.

A memorial service for Mrs. Foster will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Community Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Walker officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Meadow Cemetery , rural Luana.

The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville is in charge of arrangements.

John Eaton

John Lewis Eaton, 67, of Burlington, died at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Dec. 24, 1933, in Burlington, he was the son of John Clarence and Pansy Leola Sherwood Eaton.
Mr. Eaton was a graduate of Burlington High School and an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1954 to 1956. He worked as a mechanic at Heartland Harley Davidson Motorcycle in Burlington and previously owned and operated a Harley Davidson shop near the airport. He also worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and had a CB shop for a time.

Survivors include his niece and caregiver, Heidi Plummer of Pleasant Valley; one brother, Harry Eaton of Viola, Ark.; and 14 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will begin at noon today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Eaton will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Tyrone Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
