Gloria E. Huntley, 67 of 1811 Lake Manor Road, Solon, Iowa died Friday morning, June 21, 2002 in her home following a lengthy illness. Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2002 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Chaplin Kim Vogel of Mercy Hospice officiating. Entombment will be in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 8 on Sunday with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the Chapel after noon on Monday. Military Services will be conducted by the American Legion Hanford Post #5 of Cedar Rapids.
Gloria is survived by her husband, David of Solon, 5 sons, Marc A. Huntley and wife Judy of Phoenix, Arizona, Randy L. Huntley and wife Sue of Falls Church, Virginia, Philip D. Huntley and wife Terri of Conrad, Iowa, David J. Huntley of Cedar Rapids and Matthew S. Huntley and wife Christina of Florissant, Missouri. A sister Barbara Cramer and husband James of Cleona, Pennsylvania and two brothers, Claude Bowman Jr. and wife Diane of Newbury, Florida and Ronald L. Bowman of Charleston, South Carolina. 11 grandchildren and three great grandsons.
Gloria was born February 3, 1935 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Claude and Mildred (Krieder) Bowman. She graduated from Lebanon High School. She entered military service in 1953 during the Korean Conflict in United States Navy. Gloria and David married on June 5, 1954 in Cleona, Pennsylvania. Gloria worked for the Bell Telephone companies from 1977 till 1986. She was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Women of the Moose in Marshalltown. She also was a teacher's associate at Erskine Elementary School in Cedar Rapids. A memorial fund has been established in her name. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.

Helen Elaine Healey Dunn, 87, of 2301 Aspen Lane NE, died in her home on Thursday, June 20, 2002. Services: 11:00 AM Tuesday, United Methodist Church, Millersburg, Iowa, by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer and the Rev. Kathleen Moore. Burial: Community cemetery , Millersburg, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 PM Monday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, and after 9 AM Tuesday at the church. A prayer and remembrance service will be held at the end of the visitation on Monday at 7:30 PM at Cedar Memorial.
Helen was born August 12, 1914, the daughter of John Burke and Bessie Montross Healey near Millersburg, Iowa. She attended Millersburg Consolidated Schools, graduated from Coe College, and completed additional course work in education at UNI and the University of Iowa. For over 26 years she taught school and was a lifetime member of the NEA. During her teaching career, Helen taught every grade level and also served as school principal.
On October 2, 1937, she was united in marriage to T. Winton Dunn in Lancaster, Mo. They farmed near Millersburg during the early years of their marriage and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1953. The were blessed with three sons and three daughters who survive her: John Winton (Jack) and wife, Janet, of Santa Clarita, CA; Steven Burke and wife, Marilyn, of Stone Mountain, GA; Thomas Brian and wife, Sheila, of West Des Moines; Marilyn Joyce (Jill) Bristow and husband, Jim, of Hemet, CA; Janet Irene Avery and husband, Michael, of Hemet, CA; Shirley Louise Peckosh and husband, Kenneth, of Robins. Survivors also include 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, many cousins, who she viewed as her brothers and sisters, and the relatives, friends, and her students who brought so much joy to her life. He husband, her parents and infant brother, Kenneth Dean, preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Millersburg United Methodist Church or St. Luke's Hospice.

Neal H. Smelser

Neal H. Smelser, 59, of 2600 Larick Dr., Marion died Wed. June 26, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center after a sudden illness. Memorial services at 9 AM on Sat. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where there will also be military rites. Rev. David Hagstrom will officiate. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia, a daughter, Meaghan, at home, his mother Marie Smelser of Qyuincy, ILL., one sister, Marsha Buckner and husband, Bill of LaBelle, MO., two brothers, Marshall of Col. and Guy and his wife, Kirby of Marysville, WA. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Brian.
Neal was born on June 15, 1943 in Quincy, ILL. the son of Howard and Marie Belker Smelser. He graduated from Quincy College. He married Virginia L. Schmidt on Aug. 27, 1978 in Colorado Springs, CO. Neal was the owner and operator of Smelser Insurance Co. in Marion for three years. He was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Neal had a lifelong love of music. He was a wonderful guitar player and singer. He loved acting and his many friends at the Starlighters Theater in Anamosa. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with his neighbors and was an active participant in Neighborhood 'poker night'. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Heart Association in Neal's name. Military rites by American Legion Post 298 of Marion.

Beatrice (Bea) Trachta, 87, of 2911 Russell Drive N.E., died Monday at St. Lukes Hospital following a sudden illness. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and at the Chapel of Memories after noon on Wednesday.
Surviving is a daughter Bobbi Smith and husband William of Des Moines, three grandchildren, Cindy Hurley, Chuck Smith and Craig Smith and two great grandchildren, Jack Hurley and Caitlyn Hurley.
She was born November 10, 1914 in Linn County to Joseph and Mary (Sladek) Halva and was married to Robert E. Trachta on June 3, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She was formerly employed as a hostess with the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Bea was a member of the El Kahir Shrine Women's Auxiliary, St. Lukes Hospital Auxiliary, Reach for Recovery, Junior American Czechs, AARP, Czech Heritage Foundation, Western Fraternal Life, Senior Advocates and the Linn County Task Force. She was also the founder of Survivors of Cancer Club.
Friends may, if they wish, make memorial contributions to the Linn County Unit of the American Cancer Society, 4080 1st Ave. N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 52402.

Vivian E. Avis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa was born October 3, 1924 in Buckingham, Iowa, to Ernest and Emma Anderson.
On July 3rd 2002 Vivian departed this life at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Ia. Surrounded by family following an illness.
Vivian graduated in Garrison, Ia. and in 1948 she married Otis A. Avis in Davenport, Ia.
Vivian retired from Midwest Foods.
Survivors include five children, a daughter Dixie Weidenbacher and Dan of Ocala, Fl., four sons John and Barb of Fairfax, Ia., Chuck and Beverly of Festus, Mo., Ken and Debbie of Vinton, Ia., and Donald and Debbie of Cedar Rapids, Ia. Two brothers Vernis 'Paul' Anderson and wife Norma of Moline, Il., Vernon 'Russell' Anderson and wife Elma of Cedar Rapids, Ia., and sister in law Betty Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Ia. Sixteen Grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Otis, her parents, a brother Ernest 'J. D.' Anderson and granddaughter Chasity L. Avis.
Services at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Rev. William Harnish officiating. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday. A memorial fund has been established.
She will forever be remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Cameron Matthew Stanbro, 29, of 2830 14th Ave SE, formerly of Satellite Beach, Florida, died Tuesday afternoon, July 2, 2002, after falling while working on a sign at a car dealership. Services at 9 A.M. Saturday in All Saints Catholic Church. Rev. Phillip Schmitt will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday with a wake service beginning at 7 PM.
Survivors include his wife Toni, two sons Mason and Wyatt, his father David and wife Shirley of Satellite Beach, Florida, a sister Lacy Stanbro of Atlanta, Georgia, his grandmother Hope West of Cedar Rapids, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Terry and Mary Kay Harris of Lisbon, and a brother-in-law Adam Harris of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his mother Janet and his grandfather Frank West, and paternal grandparents, Thomas A. and Verna Stanbro.
Cameron was born September 24, 1972 in Cedar Rapids to David and Janet Richardson Stanbro. He married Toni Harris on October 16, 1998 in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Nesper Sign Company for over five years doing maintenance and installation. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and most of all spending time with his family.
A memorial fund has been established.

Roland 'Wayne' Ross, 82, 1433 9th Street NW passed away Tuesday July 2, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital following a lengthy illness. Services: 11:00 A.M. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM Sunday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. David Young of Hope Lutheran Church will officiate.
Wayne was born January 9, 1920 in Kenwood (Cedar Rapids) to Charles Ross and Anna Mae Ratliff. He grew up in the Cedar Rapids area, graduating from Roosevelt High School. He married Gertrude Knake in Cedar Rapids on June 14, 1944.

Wayne served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart. He worked for the CRANDIC Railroad, the U.S. Post Office and the Milwaukee Railroad, from which he retired.
Wayne was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church, enjoyed flowers and gardening. He also loved to travel and very much enjoyed his camping group. He like to play pinochle with is family. His greatest joy was being with the family and was a friend to every child he ever met. He spent many winters in Apache Junction, AZ where he had a trailer.
Wayne is survived by two daughters, Judi and husband Richard Pohorsky of Cedar Rapids and Joyce and husband David Wheatley also of Cedar Rapids; and two grandchildren, Chad Pohorsky and Jenifer Pohorsky both of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his wife Gertrude in 1992, a grandson Brad Pohorsky in 1989, his brothers: Archie, Ernie, George, Don, and Charles (in infancy); and his sister Doris Burt.
Wayne loved life, was a loving and caring person, a wonderful husband, Father, Grandfather, and friend. His upbeat optimism will be truly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His battles are over now. The family would like all his friends and relatives to celebrate the memories of a long and good life.
A memorial fund has been established.

Jerry A. Richtsmeier, 56, of 1176 4th Street, Marion, died suddenly Thursday, July 4, 2002, in his home. Services at 11 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Cecil Ballard of Grace Baptist Church will officiate. Friends may call at the chapel after 10 AM on Tuesday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Becky, a daughter Darcy, and two brothers Richard and Jimmy both of Newton, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother William.
Jerry was born July 8, 1945, in Hampton, Iowa to William and Wilma Miller Richtsmeier. He married Becky Eggers on July 8, 1967 in Independence, Iowa. Jerry was a Electronic Engineering Tech for the Crystal Group in Hiawatha for 14 years. He enjoyed woodworking and computers.
