Sandra J. Adams, 62, of 1780 Highview Dr., Marion, died peacefully Saturday, July 6, 2002, in her home with her family at her side following a long battle with cancer. Services at 1 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include her husband Loyal two daughters Julie Ohlheiser and husband Todd of Canfield, Ohio, Sherry Hehn and husband Michael of Eagle River, Wisconsin, a brother Don McElhinney and wife Karen of Cedar Rapids, three grandchildren, Jason, Ashlin, and Jennifer Ohlheiser, and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sandra was born April 16, 1940 in Clinton, Iowa to Donald and Clista Millspaugh McElhinney. She married Loyal E. Adams on November 22, 1959. She graduated from Marion Vernon High School in 1959. She was co-owner with her husband of Adams Ceramic Tile from 1975 to 2000. During her early years she worked at C-MAR acres amusement park and roller rink that was owned and operated by her parents. She enjoyed her grandchildren, crocheting, gardening, canning, mushrooming, picnics, her summer vacations at Hayward, Wisconsin, and collected Beanie Babies.
Her family wishes to thank St. Luke's Hospice, friends, neighbors, relatives, and especially her niece Cathy Cook for all of their ongoing support.
Instead of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.

Wanda A. James

Wanda A. James, 90, of Mercy Hallmar died there on Monday, July 8, 2002 after a short illness. Services are at 1 PM today at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories where friends may call after noon today. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
Survivors include a daughter, Carole Schlesselman Porter of San Diego, CA.
She is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Wanda was born on Oct. 15, 1911 in Millersburg, the daughter of Edward and Mary Miller Pope. She was married to Orville Schlesselman from 1935 until his untimely death in 1948. In 1955 she married Walter H. James and moved her family from Williamsburg to Cedar Rapids. He died in 1998. Wanda was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Schlesselman Kuehl in 1997. Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer Foundation in Wanda's name.

James L. Toy, 62, of 2307 Chestnut CT. NE died Monday, July 8, 2002 at his home after a short illness. Services at 11 AM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial with military rites at the Pleasant Hill cemetery in Blairstown. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 9 PM on Wed. and at the Chapel after 10 AM on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah, a son, John and his wife, Debi, of Decatur, Mich., three daughters, Cindy Stambek of Romulus, NY, Tara Hall and husband, Rich and Frea Berstler all of Cedar Rapids, two sisters, Jane Stevenson of Cedar Rapids and Joyce Kulling of Ontario, Cal. Also survived by five grandchildren, Chris, Hannah, Alexis, Matthew, Mitchell and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Joan Toy.
Jim was born on July 11, 1939 in Rouseville, PA. , the son of Lee Roy and Nevada Feely Toy. He graduated from Oil City Senior High School and attended Gannon College in Erie, PA. He married Deborah L. Kern Berstler on May 20, 1995 in Cedar Rapids. Jim was the division manager at Great Plains Gas Co. in Lansing, Mich. for 23 years and most recently was the service manager at Orkin for 15 years. He was a member of the M.J. Kirby Post No 170 American Legion in Blairstown and the A.B.C. He enjoyed bowling, golf, watching sports on television, an avid reader and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. A memorial fund has been established in Jim's name. Military rites by M.J. Kirby Post NO. 170 American Legion.

Ronald L. Mahany

Ronald Lee Mahany, 44, of 3133 Adirondack Dr. NE passed away Wednesday, July 10, after a stoic and determined fight with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Rev. Robert Burkhart will officiate. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2-5 pm on Sunday. Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery .
Ron is survived by a wife, Pamela, and step-son, Brandon Carr; father, Gene, and step-mother, Clarise of Cedar Rapids; brother, Richard (Ellen) Mahany of Swisher; sisters, Linda Neilsen of Rockwell City, Iowa, Jan Mahany of Austin, Texas; step-sisters, Diane Tucker of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Debbie Tucker of Minneapolis, Minnesota, niece and nephews, Erica, Jesse, Seth and Kyle, in-laws, Bob and Shirley Thompson of Cedar Rapids. He also leaves behind many dear cousins, aunts and uncles.
His beloved mother, Elizabeth Silletto Mahany, preceded Ron in death. She passed away in 1968.
Ron stated about his family; 'I have had my family, parents and siblings and their children rally around me, revealing tremendous bonds of love and strength, which I hope they will maintain across the distances that often separate them. Life's end is bitter sweet, comes with few regrets, but many hopes for those I care for.'
Ron was born December 15, 1957 to Gene and Elizabeth Mahany at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Ron attended Cedar Rapids schools and graduated from Washington High School in 1976. He pursued his interest in science and engineering at Iowa State University where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. As an Iowa State student he worked for McDonald Douglas (Boeing) in St. Louis. After graduating he worked at EF Johnson in Waseca, Minnesota, followed by working for Intermec Technologies (formerly Norand Corporation) for seventeen years. He was Director of Engineering. Ron stated the following; 'In my career I'd like to be remembered as someone who mentored and listened, who made decisions and admitted mistakes, who was fair and had an occasional creative idea or solution. Of all my work accomplishments I was most proud of the people-aspect and seeing others grow, succeed and excel in their accomplishments.'
As a young adult Ron enjoyed camping, nature and writing. He was an avid long distance bicyclist. Later he enjoyed playing in volleyball leagues.
Ron always looked forward to family vacations, especially those involving hiking in the mountains and being next to the ocean. He liked snorkeling and kayaking. One of Ron's pastimes was music, especially jazz. He spent many moments of relaxation playing his guitar. Ron, a creative person, developed numerous inventions. Ron found joy in entertaining his large family for holiday dinners and get-togethers. He established a special bond with his son, built with love and respect. His sisters, brother and parents were very important to him. He considered his wife his best friend. The creative writings he wrote as a young adult will be published in a small book.
Ron traveled the world during his career and liked sharing his technical knowledge. He was a mentor to many young engineers. A colleague has described Ron as being on the cutting edge of technology, another reported learning more from him about RF Technology in one hour than attending many training sessions through out several years. He was a member of IEEE and on the Board of Directors for the international group, WECA, Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance. Ron possessed fifty-four United States Patents.
Ron's wishes were for a memorial fund to Hospice of Mercy, 701 10th St. SE or to the St. Lukes Health Care Foundation, 1026 A Ave. NE, in his name.
The 'Ronald L. Mahany Endowment' through St. Lukes Hospital will help support Rehabilitative Services (career development, scholarships and physical therapy equipment). He was greatly impressed with the St.Luke's physical therapy department. He would prefer donations to these medical organizations rather than flowers.
During this last year Ron met several new doctors, nurses and other health care workers. He was impressed with their high quality of care and their genuine interest in him as a person.
His family and friends were amazed with Ron's valor, tenacity, and humor he displayed during this past year. Ron was a hero to many. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend. Ron's intelligence, sense of humor, honesty and hardworking values will be missed.

Bong Ye You

Bong Ye You, 90, of 4705 Westchester Dr. NE, died Monday, July 15, 2002, in St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services at 10:30 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Jong Koo Lee of the Cedar Rapids Korean Baptist Church will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at the chapel after 10 AM on Friday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include two daughters Ok Ran Kim of Los Angeles, California, and Kim Wessels of Cedar Rapids.
Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and three special friends An Soon Opfer, Joseph Dwyer, and Song Pok Yi. She was preceded in death by her husband Kim Yun Soo, and a son Jin Ku Kim.
Bong was born October 26, 1911 in Seoul, South Korea. She was a member of the Cedar Rapids Korean Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Rapids Korean Baptist Church.

Lorraine I. Fitzsimmons

Lorraine I. Fitzsimmons, 86, a resident of the Meth-Wick Community died there Sunday, July 21, 2002, following a short illness. Services at 10 AM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Jamison of Christ Church Presbyterian will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the chapel after 9 AM on Wednesday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include a daughter Penny Saville and husband John of Lawton, Oklahoma, a son William Fitzsimmons and wife Betty of Madison, Wisconsin, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, and Brother.
Lorraine was born March 7, 1916, in Garwin, Iowa, to Peter and Mary Jorgensen. She married Max E. Fitzsimmons on August 18, 1940 in Cedar Rapids. He died January 29, 1991. She was a secretary at Guaranty Bank and Trust Company for many years retiring in 1979. She was a member of Central Park Presbyterian Church where she had served as an Elder, and was active in Amber Grotto and enjoyed their functions.
A memorial fund has been established.

Harold R. Jameson

Harold R. Jameson, 84, of 1015 Norwood Dr. SE died Thursday, July 25, 2002 at St. Lukes Hospital of congestive heart failure. Services at 10 AM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Burial at the Fell cemetery in Libertyville at 3 PM on Tuesday where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara, his children, Gregory (Charlotte) Jameson of King George, VA., Sheila Jameson of Lexington, KY., Shannon Jameson of Des Moines, Hayden (Linda) Jameson of Hudson, WI. and a sister, Dorothy Fite of Blue Springs, MO. He is also survived by a grandson, Kevin Jameson of Lancaster, PA., a step grandson, Marty (Chris) Avery of Denver, CO. and two step great grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step father, a sister, two brothers and twin infant daughters.
Harold was born on June 6, 1918 in Wapello County, the son of Ernest and Hazel Ross Jameson. After his father's untimely death, great credit is given to his stepfather, Charles Hartwig, for creating a loving family environment. He graduated from Eldon High School and enlisted in the US Navy in 1938. He married Barbara J. Hayden of Eldon on Feb. 21, 1942 in South Mills, NC.
During his navy career, he served on six different ships including the USS Hornet at the time of the Doolittle raid in WWII. He retired from the US Navy in 1960 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. He worked at Century Engineering in Cedar Rapids from 1961 to 1975 as a test engineer. He then worked at the Iowa Medical Security Facility in Oakdale in plant engineering until he retired in 1983. He was a member of the USS Denver Assoc., the American Legion, the USS Mustin/USS Hornet Assoc. and St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Harold enjoyed traveling, camping and playing bridge with special friends. He and Barbara had visited all 50 states and had attended numerous US Navy ship reunions over the years. He was a devoted family man who also cared deeply for his extended family of in-laws, nieces and nephews. Memorials can be made to the USS Denver Association and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Harold's family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Lukes Hospital.

Florence W. Williams, 90, a resident of Crestview Acres Care Center in Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center, following a long illness. Services at 11 AM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Kay Slocum of First Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday and at the chapel after 10 AM on Wednesday.
Survivors include two sons Ray and wife Edna and Charles and wife Deborah all of Cedar Rapids, three daughters Sally Wilson and husband Wayne of Denver, Iowa, Mary Bowers and husband Larry and Donna Seavy and husband James all of Cedar Rapids, a special niece Kathy Wieland of Cedar Rapids, 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and two sisters.
Florence was born August 13, 1911 in Cedar Rapids to Elbert and Violet Fuller Williams. She married Herbert L. Williams on April 8, 1930 in Cedar Rapids. He died February 20, 1990. Florence and Herbert owned and operated Esquire Dry Cleaners for 40 years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, A.B.W.A., and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed bingo, crocheting, crossword puzzles and especially all her grandchildren.
Florence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial fund has been established.
