Jack M. Reisinger, 73, of 3620 Mt. Vernon Rd. SE. died Monday, March 24, 2003 at his home after a long illness. Services at 10 AM on Thursday at All Saints Catholic Church. Rev. David O'Connor will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wed. where there will be a vigil service at 7 PM.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jack was born on June 13, 1929 in Cedar Falls, the son of Ray and Lucille Eivy Reisinger. He married Dolores M. Molina on March 8, 1969 in Waterloo. Jack was the manager for the vending machines at the Cedar Rapids Post Office for several years. He retired in 1983. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and the National Federation of the Blind. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society or the National Federation of the Blind in Jack's name.

James Carlton Nielson, 74, 1650 Koehler Drive NW, died March 26, 2003 as the result of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, March 31 at 11:00 AM at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Rev. Robert Burkhart of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call at the chapel after 10:30 on Monday. A private committal service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery .
Survivors include his wife, Luella Ruth Nielson, a daughter Kathleen Ann Taylor (David) of Marion, Iowa, a son John Piper Nielson (Doris) of New Berlin, Wisconsin, a brother Allen E. Nielson (Patricia) of Valley City, North Dakota, a twin sister Jessie C. Buehler (James) of Klamath Falls, Oregon, a sister-in-law Emma E. Allen of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are grandsons, Daniel A. Taylor (Jodi) of Canyon Country, California, Anthony D. Taylor and Joseph M. Taylor of Ames, Iowa. Jonathan A. Taylor and James D. Taylor of Marion, Iowa, Christopher P. Nielson, Peter J. Nielson and Brian J. Nielson, all of New Berlin, Wisconsin and great-grandsons Dustin, Dylan and Bryce of Canyon Country, California. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, George and a sister, Annie Jensen.
Jim was born August 20, 1928 in Valley City, North Dakota, the son of Peter August and Alice Sowden Nielson. He graduated from Valley City State University and served in the Army during the Korean War. Afterward he attended North Dakota State University and earned a degree in Electronic Engineering. He was employed by Bell Laboratories, ITT (Mackey Marine), Collins Radio Co., and retired from King Radio Co. in Olathe, Kansas in 1991.
On June 27, 1959 he was married to Luella Ruth Allen Piper. He was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church at that time and again when he returned to Cedar Rapids in 1997 to live. He was a member of the Worship Committee, Sanctuary Choir and Administrative Board. He was a member of the Olathe Kiwanis Club, served as President and led many service projects for that club. Jim’s hobby was the design, building and installation of sound systems for churches and other non-profit organizations. Jim loved music and was a tenor soloist in all the church choirs and community choruses where he participated. Jim organized the Olathe Community Chorus and served as its first president.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy, the Meth-Wick Community or to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

William H. 'Pierre' Phelps

William H. 'Pierre' Phelps, 65, of 2066 Larry Dr. NE, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in his home following a short illness. Services at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel with military honors. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. It was his wish to be cremated and his cremains will be inurned in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the chapel after 10 AM on Saturday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Delrose, a son Aaron John Phelps, daughter Billie Jo Lynn Phelps, his mother Virginia Leinen, and a sister Jane O'Neill and husband Ronald all of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his father Robert 'Mike' Phelps, and his step father Robert Leinen.
William was born July 28, 1937 in Monticello, Iowa. He married Delrose Oberbreckling on December 9, 1961 in Cedar Rapids. He was a firefighter for the city of Cedar Rapids for 30 years retiring in 1990. He served in the US Navy and the Navy Reserves.
Military honors by Hanford American Legion Post No 5.
A memorial fund has been established.

Elsie J. Cohn

Elsie J. Cohn, 85, of 2222 1st Ave. N.E., died Tuesday, February 4th at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 1st at Temple Judah in Cedar Rapids, Iowa by Rabbi Edward Chesman. An inurnment will take place at the Eben Israel cemetery following the memorial service at Temple Judah. Arrangements are with the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Surviving is a daughter, Sharyn Cohn Fireman of Boston, Massachusetts, two grandchildren, Marc Daniel Fireman and Anthony Charles Fireman, both of Boston, and a sister in law, Francie Cohn of Cedar Rapids and Palm Springs.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ed in 1996 and her parents.
Mrs. Cohn was born on November 20, 1917 at Great Falls, Montana to Charles and Mary (Moskovitz) Galpren and was married to Ed Cohn on September 16, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. She and her husband also had a residence in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was a member of Temple Judah and active in the Temple Judah Sisterhood. She was also a member of Hadassah. Elsie was also a founder of Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach, Florida, a member of the Children in Distress Association in Miami Beach, was a Patron of the Sylvester Cancer Society in Miami Beach, a Notable for the Douglas Gardens, an Alzheimer's Society in Miami Beach and was a life member of the Miami Beach Cancer Society.
Elsie and her husband Ed generously supported Mercy Medical Center for many years, often directing their gifts toward building projects and patient room renovations. Most recently, Elsie sponsored the cardiologists' viewing area in the Katz Cardiovascular Center. She also supported the St. Luke's Hospital Foundation.
Elsie loved to entertain and enjoyed playing golf and bridge with her many friends.
Friends may, if they wish, make memorial contributions in her memory to The Thaler Holocaust Memorial Fund, c/o Temple Judah, 3221 Lindsay Lane S.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52403.

Evelyn A. Hollingsworth

Rev. Jerry Doellinger of Concordia Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday and at the chapel after 10:00 AM on Wednesday.
Survivors include a daughter Kathy Weber of Cedar Rapids, a son Keith Hollingsworth and wife Julie of Phoenix, Arizona, a daughter-in-law Evelyn N. Hollingsworth of Cedar Rapids, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 greatgreatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers Raymond and Charles McCollister.
Evelyn was born March 9, 1913 in Muscatine, Iowa to Oscar and Auria Ray McCollister. She married Max R. Hollingsworth on April 21, 1945 in Cedar Rapids. He died November 16, 1989. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, the Cedar Rapids Women's Club, and the Ellis Park Women's Golf Association.
Instead of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Mercy.
Evelyn's family wishes to thank Hospice of Mercy for their care and kindness to Evelyn.

Bernice Hofacker McCormick

Bernice Hofacker McCormick: 89 of 1409 Linmar Drive NE died early Friday morning, April 4, 2003 at her home from complications of a stroke. Per her request, no memorial services will be held. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Otsego, Michigan.
Bernice is survived by two sons, Peter McCormick of Cedar Rapids and John McCormick of Columbia, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Joyce Citta and a brother Ernest Hofacker.
Bernice was born October 19, 1913 in Otsego, Michigan, the daughter of James LeRoy and Hazel Dene (Evry) Hofacker. She taught school in the East Lansing area for a number of years. She married Robert McCormick in 1938. Robert died in 1988. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Eastern Iowa.

Phyllis Eleanor Conway

Services at 1 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Joy Barber will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include five children, Steven Conway and wife Anne of New York, Dennis Conway and wife Patricia of Marion, Colleen Lorimer and husband Bill of Cedar Rapids, Debbie Hogan and husband Dennis of Cedar Rapids, and Bruce Conway and wife Brenda of Hawaii. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, one great-grandson, and a sister Doris Kroemer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her brothers and sisters.
Phyllis was born May 26, 1925, in Cedar Falls, Iowa to Lionel W. and Hazel V. Cooper Marquett. She married Albert Earl Conway on September 8, 1945 in Iowa City. He died July 14, 1989.
Memorial contributions may be made to Amenity Hospice, 211 lst Ave SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401.

Harlan B. Chamberlain

Harlan B. Chamberlain, 78, of 3851 Wenig Rd NE, died Monday, April 7, 2003, in his home following a courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Services at 10 AM Friday at Cedar Memorial. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Ramona, three daughters Deborah Chitkara and husband Madan of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Cynthia Armstrong and husband Paul of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and Anne Kelsey of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a brother Wayne and wife Marge of Luana, Iowa, and 10 grandchildren, Nichole Derosa and husband John, Trey, Amanda, Troy, Sean, Jonathan, Rachel, Malina, Elise, and D.J., and two special caregivers Kim and Bobbie Jo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Karen Marie, one sister Eileen, and one brother Earl.
Harlan was born July 22, 1924 in Luana, Iowa, the son of Leon and Esther Smith Chamberlain. He married Ramona Harris on August 14, 1948. He graduated from Postville High School, worked at the Luana Savings Bank for 2 years before joining the Army Air Corp where he served as a pilot during WW II. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in Business. He worked for the FDIC as a Federal Bank Examiner for over 30 years. During those years he was headquartered in Cherokee, Des Moines, Oelwein, Burlington, and Cedar Rapids.
He enjoyed fishing, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
