Rita P. Keppler, 83, of 100 Thompson Dr. SE died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital of lung cancer. Memorial Services at 11:00 A.M. on Friday April 11, 2003 at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Kay Slocum will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Edward, her children, Glenda Pacifico and husband, David of Los Angeles, CA., Gary Steffins and wife, Peggy of Atlanta, GA. and Kim Keppler-Noreuil MD and husband, Dr. Todd Noreuil of Cedar Rapids; four sisters, Myra Anderson, Sybil Schlinkert, and Yoland Burke, all of California and Gloria Kerr of Australia.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Sean and Scott Smith, Anna and Laurel Noreuil,Gary Jr., Margot, and William Steffins.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deanne Sentek and four brothers.

Rita was born November 8, 1919 in Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies, the daughter of Oscar Joseph and Rosa Mahan Joseph. She married Edward Keppler on July 26, 1960 in Wheaton, Illinois. Rita was a model and seamstress. She was owner and operator of Rita Shoppe in the Virgin Islands. She enjoyed gardening and traveling. She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and a volunteer with City Of Hope in California.

Memorials may be made to City Of Hope and Beckman Research Center, 500 Club, at 1055 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles, CA. 90017.

Lottie L. Pospisil, 85, a resident of the Winslow House Care Center in Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, in Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Services at 3 PM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Deacon Al Scharosch will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Saturday.
Survivors include three daughters, Delores Randall of Iowa City, Nancy Stranczek and husband Norman of Niles, Illinois, Karen Tousey and husband Timothy of Marion, a sister, Alta Scanlan of Solon, eight grandchildren, Robert Randall Jr. and wife Sue of North Liberty, Jeff Randall of Solon, Tracy Liebermann and husband Jeff of Iowa City, John Stranczek and wife Jill of Glenview, Illinois, Brian Stranczek of Lindenhurst, Illinois, Scott Stranczek of Antioch, Illinois, Timothy Tousey and wife Polly of Pella, Chad Tousey of Rockford, Illinois, two great-grandsons Hunter and Spencer Liebermann of Iowa City, Two Step Great-granddaughters Kelly Hahn, and Heather Doty, and one step great-great-grandson Isaiah, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved pet and companion Sadie.
Lottie was preceded in death by her husband Emil, her parents Joseph and Anna Neuman Shulista and four brothers, Joseph, Lester, Robert and Richard Shulista, sister Helen Sojka, son-in-law Robert Randall Sr., and infant granddaughter Linden Tousey.
Lottie was born April 30, 1917 in Cedar Rapids where she was a life long resident. She married Emil Pospisil on October 3, 1934 in Rock Island, Illinois. He died January 19, 1991.
Lottie will always be remembered for her caring and loving personality and her wonderful way of bringing laughter to the hearts of so many.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Mercy Medical Center Foundation or to St. Pius Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.

Lyle M. Domine

Lyle M. Domine, 84, of 5508 J Street SW, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services at 3 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Sister Mary Lou Podzimek will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife of 55 and a half years Marilyn, three daughters, Sharon Domine Alexander of Cedar Rapids, Marsha Domine Willox of Roanoke, Texas, and Barb Domine Linkletter and husband Don of Cedar Rapids, a sister Genevieve Melanson of Phoenix, Arizona, five grandchildren, Leopoldo, Melida, and Alexander Willox, Aaron and Karesha Domine, and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Koenigsmark and Devin Domine. He is also survived by his dog Molly and cat Tabby. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert, a son Scott, and daughter Becky.
Lyle was born January 5, 1919 in Lone Tree, Iowa, to Carl Fred Mac and Mary Elizabeth Rieken Domine. He married Marilyn Kennedy on September 14, 1947 in Cedar Rapids. Lyle was a carpenter for Carpenters Local Union No 308 from 1945 to 1984, and has remained a member. He loved to Garden, play bingo at P-3 Hall, harvest black walnuts, listen to polka and organ music and watch old western movies. He was a WW II US Army Veteran.

Mary E. Edwards

Mary E. Edwards 83, of Mercy Hallmar died there on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 after a long illness. A funeral liturgy service will be at 10:30 AM on Sat. at All Saints Catholic Church. Rev. David O'Connor will officiate. Entombment at Mt. Calvary cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday where there will be a vigil service at 7 PM.
Survivors include a daughter, Maureen Fletcher and her husband, Greg of DeWitt, two sons, Thomas and his wife, Alexa of Belleville, Ill. and Terry and his wife, Melissa of San Diego, CA., a brother, John Callan and his wife, Josie of Topeka, KA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kevin Fletcher, Andrew and Morgan Edwards, Andrea and Amy Edwards and a great granddaughter, Mackenzie. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Bobby, Paul, Joseph and William Callan.
Mary was born on July 9, 1919 in Buchanan County, the daughter of Joseph and Azella Mahoney Callan. She married Norval L. Edwards on Sept. 7, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. He died March 10. 2003. She worked at Metropolitan Life Ins. Co for several years. Mary was a member of All Saints Catholic church, Elmcrest Country Club and the Mercy Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to All Saints Catholic Church or Hallmar Residential Care in Mary's name.

William J. Hinrichsen

William J. Hinrichsen, 74, of 3010 Towne House Dr. NE, died Friday, March 28, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Memorial services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, May 24, 2003, in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Ronald Connerly of The New Beginnings Church will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Saturday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Deloris, four children, Dennis Hinrichsen and wife Teresa Schulz of Lansing, Michigan, Ann Reinecke and husband David of Federalsburg, Maryland, Barbara Shelton and husband Craig of Lisbon, Iowa, and David Hinrichsen of Cedar Rapids, a sister Marg B'Anne of Meadow Vista, California, and five grandchildren, David Forde, Eli, Willa, and Lela Fulkerson, and Sophie Hinrichsen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Hans.
William was born May 30, 1928 near Calamus, Iowa, the son of Nicklaus and Christine Haas Hinrichsen. He married Deloris Van Horn on November 19, 1950 in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Coe College in 1951 and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He was a member of The New Beginnings Church and a US Navy Veteran.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Commit Coalition, 3601 16th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404.

Dr. Lawrence C. Strathman

Dr. Lawrence C. Strathman, 75, of 1505 Matterhorn Dr N.E. died Wednesday June 25, 2003 in Monroe Clinic Hospital following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at All Saints Catholic Church. The Rev. David O'Conner will officiate. Entombment: Private at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where a wake service will begin at 7:00 PM.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Strathman, children, Michael Strathman and wife Mary Jo of San Jose, California, Marjorie Gaudio and husband Peter of San Jose, California, Henry Strathman and wife Patty of Durango, Iowa and Carol Ann Fulmer and husband Jeff of Spotsyvania, Virginia, grandchildren, Matthew and Neil Strathman, Lisandra and Sabrina West, Rachel, Paul, and Evan Fulmer and Julia Ruth Gaudio.
Lawrence was born April 20, 1928 in Seneca, Kansas, the son of Henry Strathman and Helen Heiman Strathman. He married Polly Wright in 1951 in Kansas. She died in 1987. He then married Ruth Netolicky on January 3, 1991 at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Dr Lawrence started his career in the US Navy in Cherry Point, North Carolina from 1955-1957 and General Practice in Shenandoah, Iowa from 1957-1963. He did his Post Graduate training in Orthopedic at the Kansas University Medical College from 1963-1966, and then practiced Orthopedics in Cedar Rapids from 1966 until his retirement in 1995. Dr. Strathman was a member of the American Academy Orthopedic Surgeons, Iowa Orthopedic Society, Iowa State Medical Association and Central States Orthopedic Association. He enjoyed Fishing, farming and reading. He served in the US Navy during peacetime.
Memorials may be made to the Linn County Medical Scholarship or The Mercy Foundation.

Delmar 'Shorty' Chester

Delmar 'Shorty' Chester, 81, of 1010 17th St. SW, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Services at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Chaplain Kay Mineck of St. Luke's Hospital will officiate. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the chapel after noon on Monday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy, a daughter Kathy Burnes, and husband Bob of Cedar Rapids, and two grandchildren Tucker and Abby. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Virgil, Carl, and Edward, and a sister Helen.
Delmar was born to Ross and Gladys Cook Chester on June 19, 1922 in Troy Mills. He was united in marriage to Dorothy McIntyre on October 12, 1946 in Cedar Rapids.
Before retiring he was a machinist at Universal Engineering for 39 years. He served in the Army Engineers during WW II in Europe. He was a member of the Troy Mills American Legion.
Delmar was a perfectionist in all he did and could usually be found in his work shop working on his woodworking projects, working in his yard, or feeding the birds. He loved making his family and friends laugh and he'll be greatly missed.

Instead of flowers memorial contributions may be made to camp courageous of Iowa.

Catherine Jensen Svoboda

Catherine Jensen Svoboda, 104, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center died Friday, June 27, 2003, in Northbrook following a short illness. Services at 3 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Karen Beals of Olivet Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 5 PM on Sunday and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Monday.
Survivors include her grandson, Kevin D. Svoboda, granddaughter Karen J. Svoboda, daughter-in-law Nola J. Svoboda, all of Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ludwick (Louis) Svoboda, daughter Margaret H. Svoboda Bauer, son Richard L. Svoboda, five brothers Hans, Jacob Louis, John, Henry, and Albert Jensen, and four sisters Anna Jensen, Mattie Dietrick, Margaret Askin, and Anna Cheap.
Catherine was born September 3, 1898 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Hans Christian and Catherine Maag Jensen. She attended Van Buren School through seventh grade. On November 22, 1927 she married Ludwick (Louis) Svoboda at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She was a member of Praha Rebeka Lodge No 5 since 1925, the Danish Ladies Aid-Damske Matice Skolske, and the Pautz Fellowship at Asbury United Methodist Church. She had worked as a sales clerk at Denecke's department store, Killians, and Libsohns.
At her request please no flowers. Send memorials to Asbury United Methodist Church (Pautz Fellowship) as she enjoyed it so much.
