She was blessed to have many wonderful friends.

Ruth was born December 14, 1909, in Paradise, Missouri to John and Gladys Wade. She was the oldest of six children and her father was a Methodist minister. She was widowed at the age of 42 and raised her daughter, Samantha, then age 5. She worked as a telephone operator and for a time had a bakery in her home. She worked for the federal government, in the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City, Missouri, Phoenix, Arizona, and Cedar Rapids, and worked at Williams Air Force Base, Gilbert, Arizona. Whatever she did, 'She did heartily, as unto the Lord, and not unto men.' (Colossians 3:23) and was recognized for her outstanding work wherever she served.
Throughout her life, she served her Lord, her family, and her church lovingly, diligently, and faithfully. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids for 16 years and then joined Immanuel's mission church, Northbrook Baptist Church and has served there for the past 14 years. She was a church pianist most of her life in Baptist Churches in Missouri, Arizona, and Iowa. Until her sudden illness, she spent an hour each morning playing hymns in love and praise to her precious Savior and Lord. She also taught Sunday School, worked in women's missionary groups, and sang in the choir in all of these churches. Ruth was known as a 'prayer warrior' and devoted much time daily to prayer for her family, her church, missionaries all around the world, and her country. She loved God's Word, and devoted the first hour of her day to Bible reading and prayer. Ruth was a great encourager and ministered through notes and letters to her family, friends, and church members.

'Mimi' loved her family and spent much time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Lainey, Selah, Kenan, Miriam, Micah, Joshua, and Noah. As long as she was able she loved to cook wonderful treats for all her family and was well known for her delicious homemade bread, rolls, and chocolate-chip cookies. She loved holidays and celebrations and was so much a part of every special family event. 'Mimi' loved America, the 4th of July and everything patriotic. She was so dear to each of us and will forever hold such a special place in all of our hearts. 'Her children rise up and call her blessed.' (Proverbs 31:28) She has left us a beautiful legacy of love, kindness, amazing patience, and endurance through many kinds of pain and suffering.

A handwritten note found in her Bible expresses the desire of Ruth's heart - 'I will be what I am, do what I can, where I am, as long as I can to the best of my ability because I love the Lord who first loved me and gave himself a ransom for my soul. Thank you Lord, for the privilege of serving you! Signed Ruth Channell 8-27-83. Our hearts ache for her presence here on earth, but our hearts rejoice as we think of the incredible joy she is experiencing in heaven today. She was ready to meet her God and join the multitudes praising Him for eternity.

Memorial contributions may be made to Northbrook Baptist Church.
