Name Franklin Delano Camp, 69, of Bettendorf, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Marion, died Thursday September 11, 2003, after a valiant 10-month battle with brain cancer. Services at 11 AM Monday at First Baptist Church/Church of the Brethren in Cedar Rapids. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday and at the church after 10:30 AM on Monday.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, two daughters Terry Carlson and husband Jeff of Solon, and Cherie Guillaume and husband Fran of Mt. Vernon, two sons Frank and wife Susan, and Russell and wife Georgia all of Cedar Rapids, a sister Shirley Thompson and husband Rod of Solon, three brothers Lewis Mottinger of Solon, Dale Camp and wife Nancy of Cedar Rapids, and Richard Camp of Central City.
Frank is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Sarah Banowetz and husband Matt, Amy Carlson, Ted Camp, Nathan Guillaume, Erin Camp, Shawn Carlson, Tony Camp, Parker Guillaume, Samantha Camp, Tad Camp, Chloe Guillaume, and Noah Guillaume. Frank was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Celia Camp, an infant sister, Geraldine, and a brother Gilbert Camp.
Frank was born in Cedar Rapids on April 16, 1934, and graduated from Marion High School in 1953. On June 26, 1955 he married Evelyn Nash, daughter of Ralph and Leola (Williams) Nash. After serving in the Navy from 1955 to 1957, Frank worked for Collins/Rockwell in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1989. He then owned AAMCO Transmission in Davenport, which he operated until his death.
Frank loved golf, country music, and time with his grandchildren. He lived with a steadfast devotion to Christ. Frank dearly loved his wife and family, and will be most remembered for his kindness, patience, perseverance, and faithfulness. He is already deeply missed by family, friends, and a very special and devoted dog, Jackie.
A memorial fund has been established.

Alberta 'Bert' Fedde

Alberta 'Bert' Fedde, of 289 Lamplite Lane SE, passed away Friday, October 10, 2003 following a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at New Covenant Bible Church (1800 46th St. NE) at 10 AM Tuesday with Pastor Reagan Benedict officiating. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday and at the church after 9:30 AM on Tuesday. .
Born on February 10, 1924 in Kennard, NE, Bert was the second of two children of E. R. and Lessie Appleby. After receiving her teaching degree from Wayne State Teacher's College, she taught school for six years. Bert married Chris Fedde in 1948 and, after making Cedar Rapids their home four years later, raised three sons. Mourning her loss are Chris S. and Judy of Forest Hill, Maryland, Kenton and Charity of St. Louis, Missouri, and Mark and Denise of Sykesville, Maryland, ten grandchildren, Jill, Andrew, Mitchell, Nicholas, Nathan, and Arianna, Amanda, Rachel, Mariel, and Kurtis, one great grandson Joseph, a brother E. J., DeAnna Kellenberger, and committed friend Melvin Rhodes. Bert's husband Chris D. Fedde predeceased her in 1994.
Bert's children and grandchildren will remember her giving heart and devotion to each of them, and her living example of her faith. Throughout her life, Bert had a passion for teaching and leadership in various organizations such as Women's Bible Study Fellowship International, His Women, and her church. Bert had also been active in counseling and in marriage enrichment classes. She was an advocate in adoptive placement over the last eighteen years, acting as a court appointed guardian/custodian.
The family wishes to thank so many friends and relatives for all of the support throughout her illness.
In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make a charitable contribution to New Covenant Church or St. Luke's Hospice.

Danny Richard Owens

Danny Richard Owens, 60, of 6812 Inwood Lane, NE, entered his fathers' house on Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 at his residence with his family at his side following a long courageous battle with emphysema. Services will be held at 3 PM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Kerrin Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial cemetery where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife Mary; one son Danny and his wife Julie of Grinnell; two daughters, Tina Marie Stafford, Teri Lynn Owens both of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Shellain Renae and Dakota Quinton Owens of Grinnell, Roxanne Marie Ankeny and Shane Robert Stafford of Cedar Rapids; four stepchildren, Brian Eschen, Michael DeVore, Tonda McReynolds, Todd Hamor all of Cedar Rapids; and several step-grandchildren; three sisters, Joann and her husband Arnold Slach of Iowa City, Thelma and her husband Richard Holmes of Marshalltown, Patricia Shipley of San Diego, CA; two brothers, Michael and his wife Donna of Lawson, MO, Dennis and his wife Dorothy of Neillsville, WI. He was further survived by many nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews, two Shiatsu's Harley and Tuffy.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Peggy Lou Goff Buchmayer and Dixie Lee Trotter; a stepdaughter Tammy Smith.
Danny, a grand person was he, was born July 22, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa to Vaughn Dean and Edith Cora (Frankford) Owens. He attended school and spent his formative years in Chelsea where the family had moved in 1947. After school Danny spent two years in the U.S. Army receiving an honorable discharge. Danny was a life long truck driver, working for a number of trucking firms. It was an occupation that he dearly loved which he was forced to discontinue due to illness. Danny and Joan Belton were married having two children prior to the marriage ending. He later married Betty Hamor having one child before that marriage ended. Danny and Mary Lou Wehrenberg were married on August 13, 1994 in Cedar Rapids. Mary was steadfast in her support and care of Danny throughout his battle with his illness.
Danny will be dearly missed by family and friends and until we meet again, may God hold him in the palm of His hand.
Memorial donations to Hospice of Mercy in Danny's name. Military rites by the American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.

Fred R. Tibbits

Fred R. Tibbits, 49, of 475 N. Troy Rd. in Robins died Tuesday Sept. 16, 2003 at St. Lukes Hospital from a heart attack. Services at 2 PM on Friday at the River of Life Church. Pastor Francis Frangipane will officiate. Burial at Shiloh cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday and at the Church after 1 PM on Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Joni, a daughter, Lisa Kepner and her husband, Brandon of Cedar Rapids, a son, Benjamin, at home, his parents, Morse and Beverly Tibbits of Robins, a sister, Debby Takatsuka and her husband, Alan of Fort Dodge and his grandson, Bronson Kepner. Fred is also survived by nephews, Ryan and Kai Takatsuka and many aunts, uncles, cousins and a special cousin, Dakota Eckard. He was preceded in death by a son, Brandon and his grandparents.
Fred was born on Aug. 6, 1954 in Mason City. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1972. He Married Joni Andreasen on Aug. 4, 1984 in Shueyville. Fred was a professor at Kirkwood Community College for 22 years. He was a member of River of Life Church, C.R. Emmaus Community and the Robins City Council. Fred loved his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, vacations, telling old stories, diving, fishing, farming, sharing his faith and making sure everyone got things right. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Fred's name.

Cath Weger, 40, of 1733 Chestnut Lane NE, died Friday, September 12, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital following a sudden illness. Services at 11 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Richard Lehmann of First Lutheran Church will officiate. Graveside services and burial in the St. Sebald cemetery at 3 PM on Tuesday. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Tuesday.
Survivors include her father Calvin Weger of Oelwein, her best friend Jim DePyper of Cedar Rapids, four sisters Carol Weger of Cedar Rapids, Cindy Weger of Strawberry Point, Connie Dempsey and husband Clete of Hazleton, and Christi Rink and husband Dan of Cedar Rapids, two brothers Robert Weger and wife Joyce and Randy Weger and wife Sandy all of Cedar Rapids, nieces and nephews, Heather Ahrens, John Weger and wife Jennifer, Michael Soper, Nate, Zach, and Luke Weger, Adam and Madilyn Rink. She was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Weger and a brother William Weger.
Cath was born October 23, 1962 in Oelwein, Iowa. She was co-owner of The Left Bank.

Sandra J. Mersch

Sandra J. Mersch, 55, of 254 Norman Dr. NE died Thursday, Sept. 18. 2003 at Mercy Medical Center after surviving cancer for 10 years. Services at 10 AM on Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rev. David Schatz will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include her husband, Lonny, Ill., a son, Rick and his wife, Misty, of Appleton, WI., a daughter, Angela Mersch of Chicago, Ill. and a son, Chuck of Cedar Rapids, her mother, Pat Boddicker of Cedar Rapids, a sister Wendy Torpey and her husband, Tom, of DeLand, FL., two brothers, Kevin Boddicker and his wife, Brenda, of Luana and Rodney Boddicker of Waterloo. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Alexandra and Samantha and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
Sandy was born on April 7, 1948 in Cedar Rapids and was the daughter of Marvin and Patricia Bruce Boddicker. She married Lonny D. Mersch on Feb. 15, 1969 in Vinton. Sandy was the office manager at Geneva Products in Marion for 20 years. She was a voracious reader, gourmet cook, trivia whiz, duck collector, loving mother, doting aunt, beautiful daughter, devoted grandmother and the best wife Lonny could have possibly chosen. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to breast cancer research in Sandy's name. The casket will be closed at all times.

Arling L. Hughes
January 22, 1924 - September 12, 2003

Arling L. Hughes, 79, of 309 Crandall Dr. NE, died Friday, September 12, 2003, in Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, following a short illness. Services at 10 AM Thursday in Marion Christian Church. Rev. Robert Kunz will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday and at the church after 9 AM on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years Arlene, two daughters Nancy Worcester and Diane Hughes both of Madison, Wisconsin, and a son Leonard Hughes of Van Horne, Iowa, three grandchildren, Victoria, Samantha, and David Hughes, and David's family, Brandi, and their children Collin and Kylee Ann, and a very special family friend Mariamne Whatley of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Russett Hughes, and a sister Edwina Clements.
Arling was born January 22, 1924 at Scotch Grove, Iowa, the son of Edward C. and Leola Russett Hughes. He married Arlene Guzzle on November 2, 1943 at Marion, Iowa. Arling was a graduate of Marion High School and farmed near Marion for many years. He was the owner of Hughes Peat Co. He drove school, city, and interstate tour busses.
Arling served as a Deacon and Elder at Marion Christian Church where he was a member. Arling served on the school board for 11 years including the years when Linn-Mar High School was formed. He also served on the Farm Service Board and the Linn County Health Improvement Board.
At Arlings request many of his organs were donated immediately after his death..
Arling was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund in Arling's name has been established.

Burl W. Cook
October 13, 1915 - September 20, 2003

Burial with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife, Arvena, a son, Dennis of Toddville, a daughter, Debbie Cook of Anamosa, two sisters, Wiltrude Newman of Center Point and Irma Chester of Troy Mills. Burl is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews and special friends, LaVerne and Norma Chapman. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rochelle, a daughter in law, Dianne, two brothers, Ralph and Harlan and two sisters, Nona Chapek and Gladys Lake.
Burl was born on Oct. 13, 1915 in Troy Mills, the son of Charles and Laura Walton Cook and Angela Andrews Cook. He married Arvena M. Price on June 24, 1940 in Cedar Rapids. Burl was the owner and operator of an interior and exterior painting business for over 50 years, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Buffalo Creek Square Dance Club and served in the Army during WWII in the European Theater. Friends and family were very important to Burl. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Camp Courageous in Burl's name. Military rites by American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.
