D. Eugene Shaw

D. Eugene Shaw, 79, of Burlington died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Shaw will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Cancer Care Center of Great River Medical Center.

Celesta Turnquist

Celesta I. Turnquist, 97, of Macomb, Ill., formerly of LaHarpe, Ill., died at 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.

Born July 25, 1907, in Stronghurst, Ill., she was the daughter of Charles and Maude Alexander Turnquist.

Miss Turnquist worked as a clerk at the former Hamilton and Miller Grocery Stores in LaHarpe for 30 years. She also worked at Traveler's Inn in LaHarpe and did baby–sitting.

She lived in New Orleans with her brother for 10 years, and in 1995, moved to Macomb, where she was a resident of the nursing home for the past five years. She was a member of LaHarpe Senior Citizens and LaHarpe Christian Church.

Survivors include one brother, Lyman Turnquist of Macomb; one sister, Eunice Liggett of Washington, Ill.; three nephews; and several great–nieces and great–nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother and her parents.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m.

The funeral for Miss Turnquist will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home, with Chris Williams officiating. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Elms Nursing Home and MDH Hospice.

Audry Dimond

Audry M. Witte Dimond, 82, of Tyler, Texas, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, aat her home. Arrangements are pending at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk.

Dolly Vanskike

Dolly Ann Vanskike, 68, of Monmouth, Ill., died Saturday evening, Feb. 26, 2005, at North Western Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Ill.

Born May 8, 1936, in Canton, Ill., she was the daughter of Leslie E. and Maudie Pansy Poston Johnson. She married George Vanskike Sr. They later divorced.

Mrs. Vanskike was employed at Bersted Hobby Craft at Monmouth, Ill., and was a homemaker.

She enjoyedembroidery, cross stitch, the Green Bay Packers, going to Catfish Bend Casino and country music.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Lambert and Michelle Laws, both of Monmouth, Ill.; two sons, Clayton Vanskike and Steve Vanskike, both of Monmouth, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great–grandchildren; four sisters, Darlene Rice, Carol Ashby and Maudie Riley all of Abingon, Ill., and Florence Walker of Milan, Ill.; seven brothers, Frank Johnson of Greenbush, Ill., Carl Johnson of Rural Roseville, Ill., Emil Johnson of Rural London Mills, Ill., Lloyd Ray of Rural Gladestone, Ill., Ronnie Johnson of Rural St. Augustine, Ill., Jimmie Johnson of Rural Greenbush, Ill., and Wayne Johnson of Rural Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a special friend.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends.

The funeral for Mrs. Vanskike will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Turnbull Funeral Home at Monmouth, Ill. Burial will be in Monmouth Cemetery at Monmouth, Ill.

A memorial has been established for diabetes.

Ellen Hannum

Ellen Hannum, 95, of Wapello died Friday afternoon, March 4, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Arrangements are pending at Dudgeon–McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

Anthony Mohler

Anthony Joseph "Tony" Mohler, 96, of Burlington, died at 2:47 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 20, 1908, in West Burlington, he was the son of Charles and Lena Fritz Mohler. On Dec. 18, 1943, he married Myrtle "Maxine" Cooksey in Galesburg, Ill.

Mr. Mohler was a boilermaker for the CB&Q Railroad from 1917 to 1948. He was a foreman of the welding department for Innes Co. in Bettendorf for 15 years after which he worked for Rampco for 10 years and also at Caterpillar.

He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and New London Country Club. He enjoyed gardening, flowers and baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves.

Survivors include his wife; three sisters, Ruth Hingst and Jeanette Mosena, both of Burlington, and Doris Brenneman of West Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Friday at Hass–Thielen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church.

The funeral for Mr. Mohler will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church, with Pastor Chris Roepke officiating. Burial will be Monday in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.

Eileen Moser

Eileen Margaret Moser, 84, of Burlington died at 8:40 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2005, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center.

Born Jan. 30, 1921, in Wein, Mo., she was the daughter of Benedict and Mary Theresa Mitch Bixenman. On Aug. 22, 1941, she married William A. "Pete" Moser in San Diego. He died Jan. 30, 1983.

Mrs. Moser worked in the catalog/credit department at J.C. Penney Co. for 24 years.

She was an avid gardener, enjoyed canning and loved her roses. She was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington, where she served as a Eucharist minister, the Altar and Rosary Society, J.C. Penny's Retirees Club, the Widows Club and the Twins Club.

Survivors include four sons, William A. Moser of Pelican Rapids, Minn., Robert Moser of Burlington, and twins Keith Moser and Kevin Moser, both of Burlington; two daughters, Patricia Crowner of Ames and Linda Schafer of Wapello; 13 grandchildren; 12 great–grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Bixenman of Wever and Gerald Bixenman of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Rita Pranger of Lacey, Wash., and Marjorie Dunn of Galesburg, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one infant son.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hass–Thielen Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends following the rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Moser will be at 10 a.m. Friday at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington, with the Rev. Patrick J. Hilgendorf officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Grotto at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington.

Dwight Beckman

Dwight Alfred Beckman, 87, of Mediapolis died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Arrangements are pending at Prugh Funeral Service.

Carolyn Libman

Carolyn Pauline Libman, 89, of East Moline, Ill., died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at Aspenwood Health Care Center in Silvis, Ill.

Born Oct. 7, 1915, in Stronghurst, Ill., she was the daughter of Anton and Mabel Johnson Nelson. On June 1, 1943, she married William Libman in Hannibal, Mo. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Libman was a teacher for the Silvis School System for 37 years, retiring in 1982.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church Moline.

Survivors include two nieces, Christina Hager of Burlington and Margaret Nelson of Ottumwa; and one sister–in–law, Marjorie Nelson of Burlington.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

A graveside service for Mrs. Libman will be at 2 p.m. today in Stronghurst Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Faith Lutheran Church Moline.

Wendt Funeral Home in Moline is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Gerling

Donald Frank Gerling, 83, of rural Burlington, died Tuesday morning, March 22, 2005, at his home.

Born Aug. 22, 1921, in rural Burlington, he was the son of William and Nora Bernhardt Gerling. On Feb. 23, 1949, he married Charlotte Ellen Hartman in Galesburg, Ill. She died Jan. 27, 2001.

Mr. Gerling worked for the Des Moines County Road Commission and the Des Moines County Drainage District, retiring in 1986.

He was of the Methodist faith. He was a World War II Army veteran and a past member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He attended his World War II buddies annual reunions. He loved to go mushroom hunting.

Survivors include three sons, David Gerling, Terry Gerling and Tim Gerling, all of rural Burlington; one daughter, Trina Gabeline of rural Burlington; 10 grandchildren; four great–grandchildren; two brothers, Everett Gerling of West Burlington and Leslie Gerling of Kingston; and one sister, Opal Shaffer of Mediapolis.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Gerling will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Beth Briggs officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery in rural Danville.

Memorials have been established for Mediapolis Ambulance and the Mediapolis Education Foundation.

Carl Burger

Carl Walter Burger, 70, of Burlington, died at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at his home.

Born Nov. 2, 1933, in First Fork, Pa., he was the son of Paul Walter and Florence Helsing Burger. On Sept. 29, 1951, he married Shirley Smith in Gar–deau, Pa.

Mr. Burger worked for J.I. Case Co.

He was of the Christian faith. He was a past member of the Eagles and Moose. He enjoyed going to Catfish Bend, boating, fishing, hunting and camping.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Vicki Lin Mackie of Michigan, Karen Ziegelmeyer of Burlington and Cheryl Ann Duke of Keosauqua; one son, Steven Walter Burger of Burlington; seven grandchildren; four great–grandchildren; and two brothers, Edward Burger of Wisconsin and Robert Burger of Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel. There will be no family visitation.

The graveside service for Mr. Burger will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Aspen Grove Cemetery , with Pastor Charles Stevens officiating.

A memorial has been established.
