Louis F. Barr, 90, of 1743 Applewood Court NE, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center. Services at 11 AM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Dr. Herbert Isenberg of Westminster Presbyterian Church will officiate. Private burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Thursday with a reception following the service at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Nancy, two sons Dennis and wife Louise of Omaha, Nebraska, Douglas and wife Clare of St. Helena, California, and daughter Janine Barr of Cedar Rapids, a step son Scott Tolbert and wife Rosemary of Millis, Massachusetts, two grandsons Christopher Barr of Omaha, and Wilson Barr of St. Helena, one granddaughter Abby Barr of Omaha, and one step grandson Ross Pacetti of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Clara O’Neal, Lucille Paul, and Helen Wywrenbeck, and a stepdaughter Jane Tolbert Pacetti.
Louis was born on December 17, 1913 in Cedar Rapids to William and Edith Barr. He married Irma Gregor on August 11, 1937. She preceded him in death on May 2, 1989. He married Nancy Tolbert on January 30, 1993. He served in the US Army during WW II as a staff sergeant.
Louis had worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a meat inspector for 30 years prior to his retirement in 1973. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge, and the Iowa Consistory. He served for many years on the board of Linn Community Food Bank and was a co founder of Green Square Meals Inc. He also was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church , to Camp Courageous of Iowa, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Bersha E. Brown

Bersha E. Brown, 82, of 5006 Richmar Lane NW, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, in her home following a sudden illness. Services at 10 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 9:30 AM on Friday.
Survivors include two daughters Sandra Frericks and husband Don of Blue Grass, Iowa, and Jo Lynne Meskimen and husband Bob of Des Moines, one niece and two nephews that she raised, Sarah Speedy and husband Wayne of Louisville, Kentucky, Arden Baker and Adriana of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Dennis Baker of Mesa, Arizona, a sister Theola Baker of Medford, Oregon, ten grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Madeline Hollingshead and a granddaughter Kathrine Speedy.
Bersha was born February 21, 1922 in Waubeek, Iowa to Elmer and Ethyl Doe Moore. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1939. She married Lyle E. Brown on November 30, 1939 in Anamosa, Iowa. He died January 1, 1991. Bersha worked at Collins-Rockwell for 45 years. Some of her assembly items made their way into space via the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. She was in the first group to work on Mercury, and she was the last to go off the Apollo.
She was a member of Malta Chapter 415 Order of Eastern Star, Eu’Cha-Rest Temple, Daughters of the Nile, and the El Kahir Shrine Auxiliary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital.

Edward R. Janes

Edward R. Janes, 91, 6420 Council St. NE died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Northbrook Manor Care Center following a long illness. Services: 3:00 P.M. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call from 7PM to 9PM Wednesday at Turner Chapel West. The Rev. Parker Knoll will officiate.
Surviving are two daughters, Lola Reisner of Cedar Rapids and Shirley DeBrower of Grinnell; two brothers, Charles Janes of Stewartsville, PA and Arnold Janes of Belle Plaine; a sister, Betty Gilbert of Belle Plaine; 5 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen; three brothers, Elmer Janes, Wilbur Janes and Lyle Janes; and a sister, Mildred Walters.
Edward was born November 2, 1912 in Belle Plaine the son of Lester and Ida (Nemecek) Janes. He married Helen Shurtz on October 10, 1936 in Marshalltown. He worked for the City of Cedar Rapids in the Parks Department for 12 years. Edward was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Central City. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.
Military Rites by the American Legion Hanford Post #5.
A memorial fund has been established.

Audrey H. Mallory

Audrey H. Mallory, 74, of 77 Fleetwood Rd NW, formerly of Springfield, Illinois, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, in her home following a long illness. Services at 1 PM Monday at First Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Timothy Carter will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the church after noon on Monday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband Robert, six daughters Virginia Collis and husband James of Citrus Springs, Florida, Brenda Creviston and husband Dean of Laplace, Illinois, Sheila Bullard and husband Larry of Valdosta, Georgia, Mary Uphoff of Casey, Illinois, Ann Roehrkasse and husband Donald of Cedar Rapids, and Phyllis Hill and husband Joe of Phoenix, Arizona, a son Roger Mallory and wife Janet of Maroa, Illinois, a sister Dorothy White of Centralia, Illinois, two brothers Frances Davis of Sorento, Illinois, and Ed Ziska of Roseau, Minnesota, twenty one grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
Audrey was born August 16, 1929 in Sorento, Illinois to George and Anna Nedbal Davis. She married Robert W. Mallory on November 1, 1948. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene.
Audrey will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ronald J. Saddoris, 66, of 6454 Quail Ridge Dr. SW, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, in his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Services at 9 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Bruce Kittle will officiate. Burial in Linwood cemetery . Military rites by the US Marine Corps Reserve, Battery C, 1st BTN, 14th MAR, Waterloo, IA. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 8:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include his wife Cathy, daughter Lynn Anne Saddoris and husband Ryan Charkowski of Cedar Rapids, two brothers Joe Saddoris Jr. and wife Ruth of Ames, Iowa, and Donald Saddoris and wife Mary of Goreville, Illinois, a sister Patty Petersen and husband Richard of Clinton, Iowa, many special nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his grand dog Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Frances Louise and a brother Eugene.
Ronald was born August 3, 1937 in Osceola, Iowa to Joseph and Evelyn Moran Saddoris. He married Catherine Carr on June 24, 1983 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
He was a member of the American Legion, ACSM (American Congress on Surveying and Mapping), Marine Corps League, Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa. He worked for the IDOT from 1958 to 1966. He then became project manager and survey team leader at Shive Hattery from 1966 to present. He served in the US Marine Corps 4th Marine Air Wing Division VMGR 234 for 30 years.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice, Toys for Tots, or the Ghosh Foundation.

Wayne B. Dunlavey, 75, of Traer, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Sunrise Hill Care Facility in Traer following a short illness. Memorial services at 10:30 AM Friday in the Traer United Methodist Church. Rev. Anita Johnson will officiate. Inurnment in Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Wayne’s family will greet friends from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday and after 10:AM on Friday at the Traer United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife Jo Ann, a son Rodney and wife Verlene all of Traer. Also survived by two step-grandchildren Alan M. Cannon and Andrew W. Cannon. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Nancy Jo.
Wayne was born November 20, 1928 in Traer to Donald and Dorothy Wood Dunlavey. He married Jo Ann R. Rust on July 17, 1955 in Sheffield, Iowa. Wayne worked in sales and marketing for Century Engineering and Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and cemetery in Cedar Rapids, and for Plumbers Supply in Iowa City. He was a member of the Traer United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Mizpah Masonic Lodge, Iowa Consistory, and the El Kahir Shrine. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Wayne was well known for his singing at many different occasions including the National Anthem at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, for the Imperial Shrine Convention where Russ Anthony was installed as Imperial Potentate. He sang the “Holy City” at the El Kahir Shrine concert on Palm Sunday in Cedar Rapids for over 40 years. He loved to play pool and collect antiques.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Robert (Bob) H. Heuston

Robert (Bob) H. Heuston, of 190 Cottage Grove Ave SE, died Saturday in St. Luke’s Hospital. Services at 1 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 6 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Thursday.
Bob was born February 22, 1923, in Boulder, Colorado, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Howard H. Heuston. He graduated from Boulder High School and the University of Colorado with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the U. S. Navy with the Seabees in the South Pacific during World War II.
In 1949, he married Myrtle Barnes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and rejoined the Navy as a regular officer in the Civil Engineer Corps. He subsequently served, with Myrtle, in the South Pacific again, California, Mississippi and New York at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a degree in civil engineering, and then in London, England, Illinois, and Washington D.C. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Commander in 1965. He then accepted an appointment as Director of Engineering at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. He was employed later at Michael Reese Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, retiring in 1986 as Vice President for Facilities and Engineering.
In 1986, they moved to their new home they built on their farm in Johnson County, Iowa, where they raised British White Park cattle. In 1998, they moved to their condominium in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle, of 55 years, daughter Karen and husband Tom Nesler of Ft. Collins, Colorado, son Gregory and wife Tricia of Scottsdale, Arizona, daughter Laura and husband Bob Koecheler of Boulder, Colorado, grandchildren Laura, Amy, Carrie, Katie, and Steven, brother William Heuston (Addie) of Louisville, Colorado, and sister Helen Harper of Aurora, Colorado. He also leaves behind sisters in law, Eleanor Reeder (Carl) of Cedar Rapids, Gladys B. Johnson of Texas, Elsie Bond (Bill), Ellen Heuston, and two brothers in law Norman Barnes (Donna) of Cedar Rapids, and Alf Barnes (Joan) of Texas. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Philip.
Bob was known for his generous and gentle spirit and will be missed by all.

Robert L. Lockhart, 48, of 1406 N. St. SW, died Friday, July 2, 2004 in Mercy Medical Center, from being in a house fire. Services with military honors at 1 PM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Mark Osterhaus of St. Matthews Catholic Church will officiate. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife Pam, two sons Kyle and Shane, his Mother Flo Lockhart of Mesa, Arizona, two brothers Larry of Chandler, Arizona, and Curt and wife Kathy of Mesa, Arizona, several nieces, and nephews, his father and mother in law Richard and Marilyn Trumpold of Amana, a sister in law Cheri Kirk and husband Jim of Cedar Rapids, and a brother in law Mike Mills of Phoenix, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his father George and two sisters Patti and Nancy.
Robert was born July 29, 1955 in Cedar Rapids to George and Flo Hoy Lockhart. He graduated from Washington High School in 1973. He was a US Navy Veteran. He married Pam Trumpold on March 7, 1987 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Robert worked for the Cedar Rapids Community School for 15 years and was currently employed by CCB Packaging. His hobbies were being with family and friends, talking about muscle cars and hillclimbs, and motorcycles.
Robert was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Military honors by Hanford American Legion Post No 5
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
