Robert W. Rudd, Sr., 77, 2801 Teresa Dr. SW died Monday, July 5, 2004 at his home following a brief illness. Services are private. Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy; five sons, Robert Rudd, Jr of Seattle, WA, David Rudd, Tracy Rudd, and Richard Rudd all of Cedar Rapids, and Thomas Rudd of Ely; a brother, Dewey Rudd of Manchester; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Dorothy and Patty.
Robert was born November 24, 1926 in Cedar Rapids the son of Dewey and Hazel (Newton) Rudd. He married Nancy Pealer on May 17, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. He was a refrigeration technician for Climate Engineering until his retirement in 1989. Robert was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #125 and the Jones Park Retired Men's Golf Association. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II from 1944 to 1950 in the Pacific Theatre. Robert was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather,

LaVerne B. (Buff) Fleagle, 83, of 4435 Westchester Dr. N.E., died Monday at Manor Care following a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church by Father Mark Osterhaus officiating. Interment: St. John’s cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, where a vigil service will be given at 7 p.m. Military services will be conducted by the VFW Post 788.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Agnes, 2 daughters, Ginger (Steve) Hull and Sherry (Lou) Decker, both of Cedar Rapids, brother, Donald (Lois) Fleagle of Cedar Rapids, one grandson, Scott Hull and wife Stacie, 2 great granddaughters, Alexis and Riley Hull, a step grandson, Shad (Lyndie) Decker and 2 step great grandchildren, Kayla and Kyle Decker, all of Jesup, Iowa, many nieces and nephews and 2 sister in laws, Francis Crump and Cecilia Navratil, both of Cedar Rapids.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Edward Fleagle Jr.
He was born August 17, 1920 at Rock Island, Illinois to Edward J. and Marie (Dusek) Fleagle and was married to Agnes Navratil on December 1, 1942 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. He grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School in 1939.
Vern served in the U.S. Navy during World War 2. He was a member of the St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Men’s Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Council #909, VFW Post 788 and the Elks Club.
He played baseball with the M & J League during the 1940s. Vern worked for the H.J. Heinz Company for 31 years, retiring in 1980. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer and bridge player. He loved the outdoors and all of the wild life provided by God. Vern had a great sense of humor and will be dearly missed by his loving family and many friends.
Memorials may be made directly to St. Matthew’s Catholic Church or Xavier High School.

Beau Samuel Peckosh

Beau Samuel Peckosh, 10-day-old infant son of Brett and Tricia Peckosh, was born June 25, and passed away on July 5, 2004. Memorial services on Thursday, July 8, at 10:30 AM at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Thelma Hembroff of Unity Church of Cedar Rapids will officiate. Visitation for family and friends prior to the service at 9:30 AM at the Chapel. Burial at Buffalo cemetery in Hiawatha. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Beau is survived by his parents, Brett and Tricia Peckosh, and brother Benjamin of Central City. Survivors also include grandparents, Joe and Faith McDonnell of Camanche, and Ken and Shirley Peckosh of Robins; great grandmother Myrtle Peckosh of Cedar Rapids; uncle Joe McDonnell, Jr. of Camanche, aunt Sara and uncle Matt Janssen, and Cousin Libby of Wellsburg; along with other family, friends, and the caregivers at St. Luke’s hospital NICU.
God delivered Beau to us early and took him away from us too quickly to his home with the angels. The miracle of his short life will forever touch our hearts.
A memorial fund has been established.

Robert (Bob) H. Heuston

Robert (Bob) H. Heuston, of 190 Cottage Grove Ave SE, died Saturday in St. Luke’s Hospital. Services at 1 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 6 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Thursday.
Bob was born February 22, 1923, in Boulder, Colorado, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Howard H. Heuston. He graduated from Boulder High School and the University of Colorado with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the U. S. Navy with the Seabees in the South Pacific during World War II.
In 1949, he married Myrtle Barnes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and rejoined the Navy as a regular officer in the Civil Engineer Corps. He subsequently served, with Myrtle, in the South Pacific again, California, Mississippi and New York at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a degree in civil engineering, and then in London, England, Illinois, and Washington D.C. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Commander in 1965. He then accepted an appointment as Director of Engineering at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. He was employed later at Michael Reese Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, retiring in 1986 as Vice President for Facilities and Engineering.
In 1986, they moved to their new home they built on their farm in Johnson County, Iowa, where they raised British White Park cattle. In 1998, they moved to their condominium in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle, of 55 years, daughter Karen and husband Tom Nesler of Ft. Collins, Colorado, son Gregory and wife Tricia of Scottsdale, Arizona, daughter Laura and husband Bob Koecheler of Boulder, Colorado, grandchildren Laura, Amy, Carrie, Katie, and Steven, brother William Heuston (Addie) of Louisville, Colorado, and sister Helen Harper of Aurora, Colorado. He also leaves behind sisters in law, Eleanor Reeder (Carl) of Cedar Rapids, Gladys B. Johnson of Texas, Elsie Bond (Bill), Ellen Heuston, and two brothers in law Norman Barnes (Donna) of Cedar Rapids, and Alf Barnes (Joan) of Texas. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Philip.
Bob was known for his generous and gentle spirit and will be missed by all.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains, New York 10605.

Rita M. Hauersperger, 81, of Crestview Acres, formerly of 3033 Leonard St. NE died Wed. July 7, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services at 10 AM on Sat. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Rev. Steve Rosonke will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Visitation at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the Church after 9:30 AM on Sat.
Survivors include her daughter, Ann of Cedar Rapids, a son, Clarence 'Harry' and his wife, Kelly of McCallsburg, a sister, Mary Barnes and husband, Gene of Vinton and a brother, Billy Pfiffner and his wife, Ethel of Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by a brother, Norbert.
Rita was born on June 14, 1923 in Waterloo, the daughter of William and Theresa Geib Pfiffner. She married Lester C. Hauersperger on May 7, 1944 in Waterloo. They were later divorced. Rita worked at HACAP as a bookkeeper and retired from there after 10 years of service. She attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church and loved to sew, do needlework, gardening and painting. Rita played the piano, organ and sang at many weddings and funerals. Memorial donations may be given to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Rita's name.

Geraldine “Geri” M. Yock: 80, of Cedar Rapids,lately of Pennington Square in Monticello, died Tuesday morning, July 6, at St. Luke’s hospital following a brief illness. Please join us in celebrating Geri’s glorious life Friday, July 9, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Lynn Thiede officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and at the church after 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Geri is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clarence Yock of Monticello, a daughter, Jayne Billington and husband John of Santa Rosa, California, a son Thomas Yock and wife Jane of Hiawatha, Iowa, a sister Florence Baldwin of Monticello, a brother Clifford Dirks and wife Sandy of Wyoming, Iowa and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Geri was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Ann Jones on March 25, 2004, two brothers, LeRoy Dirks and Donald Dirks and a sister, Dorothy Hurst.
Geri was born November 2, 1923 in Olin, Iowa the daughter of Gerd and Augusta (Husmann) Dirks. She married Clarence R. Yock on October 2, 1943 in Glendale, California. Geri was proudly employed at Kirkwood Community College from 1968 to 1987 retiring as the bookstore manager. She also worked at Fannie Farmer’s for many years. She was a charter member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She was active in the “Kirkwood Oldies” and a member of the VFW Auxillary. Geri enjoyed games, music, sewing and gardening. She dearly loved and cared for her family and friends. Her spirit of love and caring made a tremendous impact on all those who knew her and loved her. Memorials may be made in Geri’s memory to the American Diabetes Association; the Alzhemiers Association or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

Collins, Colorado, and Steven Marshall and wife Maureen of Madison, Wisconsin, 9 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Edith, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
Dean was born April 7, 1919 in Central City, Iowa to Howard and Catherine Edna Lockwood. He married Edith L. Hagerman on September 3, 1949. She died June 6, 1985. He married Joan Marshall on June 21, 1986 in Cedar Rapids.
Dean was a member of Eden United Church of Christ, Brucemore, Indian Creek Nature Center, and Plumbers and Fitters Local 25, Moline, Illinois. He served in the US Army during WW II.
Dean’s love for his family and his infectious sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Donald L. McElhinney, 60, of 2908 27th St. SW died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at his home of a heart attack. Services at 3 PM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Fran Griffeth will officiate. Inurnment at the Cedar Memorial Park cemetery . Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Wed.
Survivors include his wife, Karen. He is also survived by two brothers in law, Bob Lewis and Loyal Adams, six nieces, Julie Ohlheiser, Sherry Adams, Toni Lewis, Linda Hicks, Sherry DeFord and Becky Gombert. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sandra Adams and a sister in law, Mona Lewis.
Don was born on March 25, 1944, the son of Donald and Clista Millspaugh McElhinney. He married Karen S. Hansen on Oct. 16, 1982 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Don was in golf course maintenance at St. Andrews for many years. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed time with his family and many friends. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Camp Courageous in Don's name.

Margaret Marie Baldwin, 94, of Willow Gardens formerly of Cedar Rapids died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at St. Lukes after a long illness. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday and at the Chapel after 9 AM on Friday.
Survivors include four daughters, Aleta (Glenn) Futrell of Hampton, Arlene (Russ) Edwards of Granite City, Ill., Beth (Jim) Coder of Marion, Amie (Paul) Womachka of Cedar Rapids, five sons, Leeon 'Bud' of Cedar Rapids, Arnold (Mary Beth) of South Beloit, ILL., Gary (Helen) of Lafayette, Oregon, Larry 'Hal' (Karen) of Patterson, California and Dale (Mari) of Leesburg, VA. She is also survived by 45 grandchildren, 77 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Alan, 2 daughters, Jane (Cliff) Seibert and Ada, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
Marie was born on Dec. 12, 1909 in Jones County, the daughter of Reese and Cora Gilbrieth Taylor. She married Leeon H. Baldwin on March 24, 1929 in Manchester. They were later divorced. She was a private nurse's aid (CNA) for several Cedar Rapids families for many years. Marie was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, the Witwer Senior Creative Writing Class and St. Lukes Auxiliary. She was an avid reader, Hawkeye and Cub's fan and had several of her poems published. A memorial fund has been established in Marie's name.
