Dean Morgan
Dean L. Morgan, 75, New Windsor, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Family Funeral Services, Viola. Burial is in Hopewell cemetery , Rivoli Township, between Viola and New Windsor.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to North Henderson United Methodist Church, North Henderson Lions Club or Cozy Haven Homes, New Windsor.

He was born April 30, 1925, in Aledo, the son of Glenn A. and Ruth Durston Morgan. He married Lois Stocking Nov. 30, 1952, in Rochelle, Ill.

He farmed all of his life, first with his father, then in North Henderson for 20 years, and since 1974 in New Windsor.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, North Henderson, North Henderson's Lions Club, member and past board member of Farm Bureau and served on the board for Cozy Haven Homes, New Windsor. He enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Morgan, New Windsor; daughter and son-in-law, Kerin and Jamie Nonnenmann, Moline; son, Neal Morgan, Galesburg; grandchildren, Emilie Michael, Monmouth, Levi Morgan and Laney Morgan, both of Alexis, and Daniel Nonnenmann and Rebecca Nonnenmann, both of Moline; and a niece and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wendell Morgan; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Morgan.

Shirley Norris
Shirley Ann Norris, 57, Orion, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at home.

Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion. Burial will be at Lutheran cemetery , Orion.

Visitation is 1 p.m. to service time at the church. Memorials may be made to the family. Kirk, Huggins and Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion, was in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Ann O'Haver was born Nov. 30, 1943, in Iowa City, the daughter of Frances Marion and Betty Jean Axtell O'Haver. She married Alvin Norris Nov. 20, 1966, in Lavern, Minn.

She was a registered nurse's aide until 1982. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the handbell choir. She was also a church organist and was a member of the Home Community Education Association. Shirley enjoyed bowling, baking and playing games.

Survivors (and spouses) include her mother; husband, Alvin; sons, Alvin E. Norris Jr., Texas, Kyle L. Norris, Eau Claire, Wis., and Jody Norris, Durand, Wis.; daughters, Jill Robinson and Peggy Shackleton, both of Eau Claire; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy (Tom) Bainey, Davenport, and Kathy (Bill) Lewis, Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her father.

Christine Aaseby
Christine Kaye Aaseby, 36, Davenport, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, North Campus, Davenport.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.

Visitation is 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary. Memorials may be made to an educational fund for her children through Risen Christ Lutheran Church.

She was born May 23, 1964, in Moline. She married Stephen Aaseby Sept. 24, 1983, in East Moline.

Mrs. Aaseby had formerly been employed at Brown's Chicken in Moline. For the past 10 years, she had been employed at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island, in the Education Department dealing with policies and procedures.

She was a member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church and enjoyed softball, cooking, baking and crafts. She was a dedicated Soccer Mom and dedicated mother who enjoyed watching her son's swimming meets at Davenport North High School.

Survivors include her husband, Stephen; children, Joshua, Megan, Eric and Ryan, all at home; parents, Kathy and Duane Herron, Silvis, and Robert and Dixie Volk, Moline; sisters, Julie Cassatt, LeClaire, Iowa, Jennifer Herron, Oak Park, Ill., Keri Herron, Normal, Ill., Dixie Henschen, Moline, and Tina Reynolds, Moline; brothers, Andy Volk, Moline, and Dale Herron, Austin, Texas; grandparents, Raymond and Dorothy Volk, Port Byron, and John T. Herron, Rock Island.

Jerry Clements
Jerry S. Clements, 68, Bettendorf, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Genesis West, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.

Thomas Mitchell
Thomas Mitchell, 85, of Davenport, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Manorcare Health Services, Davenport.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Progressive Baptist Church, Davenport. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Further arrangements are pending at Orr's Mortuary, Rock Island.

LeRoy `Bub' Scott
Services for LeRoy Scott, 72, Davenport, are 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island.

Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Additional visitation is 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

He died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Trinity North, Davenport. He was born in Davenport to Arsbie and Alberta Pierce Scott.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Sharon Thomas and Collette Roberts, Davenport, Adrian Scott, Chicago, and Anthony Jiles and Stacey Thomas, Davenport.

Walter Sturms
Walter U. Sturms, 66, Davenport, died April 14, 2001, at Manor Care Nursing Center, Davenport.

Services were held April 17 at McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf, and April 18 at Summerville Funeral Home, Salisbury, Mo. Burial was in Beulah cemetery , Salisbury.

He was born June 5, 1934, in Burlington, Iowa, to Albert and Jessie Sturms. He married Patricia Cochrane in 1957. He later married Hazel Price July 11, 1972.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel; daughter, Kathleen Sturms, Stafford, Va.; sons, Dennis, Centerville, Iowa, Curtis, Normal, Ill., and Craig, serving in the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, Fla.; stepdaughters, Jan Pestka, Durant, Iowa, and Ann Kocher, Apache Junction, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jess Sturms, Davenport.

James Franks
James ``Jim" L. Franks, 59, of Rock Island, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at home.

Arrangements are pending at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island.

Michael Nelson
Michael Paul Nelson, 60, Rock Island, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Forest Hill Nursing and Rehab Center, East Moline.

Graveside services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn Memorial Estate, Moline. The Rev. Adrian Rosa Sr. will officiate. There is no visitation.

He was born March 29, 1941, to William and Sarah (Hess) Nelson in Moline.

He attended East Moline Bible Missionary Church. He was employed by Bear Manufacturing, Rock Island. He volunteered with Junior Achievement.

Survivors include his nieces, Sarah Norman, Lisa Kirk; nephew, David Thurston; great-nephews, Scott and Jeremy Bullock and Christian Garcia. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Mark Owens
Mark C. Owens, 76, of 1910 Springfield Road, East Peoria, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Methodist Hospital, Peoria.

Services are 1:30 p.m. today at Rock Island Memorial Park cemetery Chapel. Visitation is 12:30 p.m. to service time at the chapel. The Rev. Ivan Fuller officiating. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Schmidt-Haller Funeral Parlor, East Peoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Owens was born June 20, 1924, in Davenport, the son of Leslie and Mary Morgan Owens.

He is survived by a nephew, Dennis Wahlheim, Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Alida Poma
Alida S. Poma, 100, formerly of Rock Island, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Marion County Nursing Home, Bull Shoals, Ark.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Mildred Wingler
Mildred L. Wingler, 85, of Rock Island, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, in her home.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in Riverside cemetery , Moline. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to the family.

The former Mildred Loleta Dietz was born March 21, 1916, in Vandalia, Ill., the daughter of Samuel and Grace (Shane) Dietz. She married Charles L. Wingler, who preceded her in death. She was a waitress at Tom Balla's Airport Inn for several years, retiring in 1980.

Mildred is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, William and Janet Wingler of Moline, and Dale and Barbara Wingler of Rock Island; four children by a previous marriage, Wilma Thomas, Raymond Trowbridge, Alma and Joyce; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a brother, Raymond Dietz of Lewiston, Idaho.

James Atchison
Burial for James A. Atchison, 49, of Lafayette, La., will be in Fountain Memorial Gardens, Lafayette. Memorials may be made to Alleman High School or Bone Cancer Research.

Mr. Atchison died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Tulane Medical Hospital, New Orleans, La.

He was born Feb. 13, 1952, the son of Herbert and Alice Atchison. He married Vickie Bailey June 22, 1985, in Lafayette.

He graduated from Alleman and the University of Illinois.

Survivors include his wife; children, Sara Atchison, Kansas City, Mo., Megan Duhon and Justin Atchison, Lafayette; a granddaughter; mother, Alice Atchison, Moline; sisters, Patricia Courtney, Hampton, and Dorrie Pavich, Springfield, Ill.; and brother, Dr. Thomas Atchison, Hot Springs Village, Ark.

John Garrity
John P. Garrity, 64, Schaumburg, died Saturday, April 14, 2001.

Services are 9:15 a.m. Thursday at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Road, Schaumburg, and 10 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit, Schaumburg. Burial is in Memory Gardens cemetery , Arlington Heights.

Visitation is 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials to American Cancer Society.

He was born July 20, 1936, in Moline.

He was a retired cash manager for Motorola Inc. for 36 years. He was treasurer for many years for United Way of Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates. Mr. Garrity was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was a quiet man but everyone who met him said he was a very good man.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Barbara Wolf Garrity; children, Janet (Kevin) Sanderson and Christine (Sam) DiRaimondo and Steve Garrity; grandchildren, Blake, Brandon and Taylor Sanderson and Andrea, Alec and Alyssa DiRaimondo; and siblings, Mary (Gerald) Thompson, Kathryn Combs, Ellen (Marvin) Scranton and Joe (Shirley) Garrity.

Louie Hinsberger
Louie P. Hinsberger, 89, of Moline, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where further arrangements are pending.

Survivors include his wife, Mary.

Karl Madsen
Karl D. Madsen, 62, Moline, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Veterans Administration Hospital, Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline.

Among survivors is his wife, Joyce.

Ryland Phillips
Ryland D. Phillips, 76, of 3505 South Shore Dr., Moline, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at home.

Arrangements are pending at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline.

Sally Soliz
Sally Wood Soliz, 50, Mohegan Lake, N.Y., died unexpectedly Sunday, April 15, 2001, at home.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Clark Funeral Home, 2104 Sawmill River Road, Yorktown Heights, N.Y. 10598. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery , Putnam Valley, N.Y.

She was a 1969 graduate of Moline High School and a graduate of Evanston, Ill., Hospital School of Nursing. She married Chester Soliz in 1980 in New York.

She was a wonderful wife and mother and loved her animals.

She is survived by her husband; daughters, Jacquelyn, Allyson and April, all at home; her parents, Beder and Shirley Wood, Moline; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Terry Farrell, Milan; a brother, Beder Wood, Stelle, Ill. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Wood.
