Stephen Waite
Services for Stephen A. Waite, 56, Moline are 2:30 p.m. today at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park cemetery .

Visitation was 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cunnick-Collins.

Mr. Waite died Friday, April 13, 2001, unexpectedly, at home with his family.

He was employed as a machinist at Gett Industries, Milan, for seven years and earlier worked 18« years at Bohl Machine & Tool Co., Milan.

He was born May 18, 1944, in Davenport, and later met the love of his life, Allene Kuhse, whom he married in 1970 also in Davenport.

Memorials may be made to his very special granddaughter, Saebra.

Survivors include his wife, Allene; daughters and son-in-law, Luzette and Keir Bennett, East Moline, Christine Waite, Rock Island; granddaughter, Saebra Lee Monique Bennett, East Moline; and brothers, David and Jerry, both of Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Opal; and his grandson, Austin.

Judge Joseph Carpentier
Joseph G. Carpentier, 85, East Moline, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, where he was a member. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island, with military honors by Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials to Arrowhead Ranch, Coal Valley, or Make A Wish Foundation. DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph G. Carpentier was born Oct. 22, 1915, in East Moline, the son of Gregoir and Louise Carpentier. He received his elementary and secondary education in the schools at East Moline and graduated from St. Ambrose College, Davenport, in 1939.

Following graduation, he was named manager of the Strand and Majestic theaters in East Moline, continuing in that capacity until October 1943, when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in combat areas of the Atlantic and Mediterranean as a gunnery officer, participating in the invasion of southern France in August 1944. At the time of his honorable discharge in February 1946, he held the rank of lieutenant j.g.

Upon his return to civilian life, Mr. Carpentier enrolled in the University of Iowa, where he graduated from the School of Law in 1948. He was admitted to the Iowa State Bar in June 1948 and to the Illinois Bar in October 1948. He was engaged in the private practice of law in East Moline. In January 1950, he was appointed the first public defender in Rock Island County, a position he filled until he resigned to accept appointment on Jan. 13, 1953, as a member of the Illinois Parole and Pardon Board, where he served until Aug. 15, 1961. He was again appointed public defender in Rock Island County and continued in that capacity until Dec. 12, 1972, when he was elected by the circuit judges of the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit as an associate circuit judge. In November 1974, he was elected as a circuit judge in the same judicial circuit, composed of Henry, Mercer, Whiteside and Rock Island counties. Judge Carpentier retired on Dec. 1, 1980.

He married Dorothy E. Hunter of East Moline on June 4, 1940, in East Moline.

He was a member of Rock Island County Bar Association, American Legion East Moline Post 227, Amvets and Short Hills Country Club and was inducted into the United Township High School Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Gerry Cruse, East Moline; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Carpentier, Zionsville, Ind., Timothy and Lisa Carpentier, East Moline; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; sister, Frances Cant, East Moline; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Carpentier was preceded in death by sisters, Ann De Gheselle and Josephine Carpentier; and brothers, Charles Carpentier and Emil Carpentier.

Lois Phillips
Lois M. Phillips, 58, East Moline, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Arrangements are pending at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline.

Harold Huff
Harold E. Huff, 70, Cliff Heights, Silvis, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where Masonic services will be conducted by Silvis Lodge 898. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where further arrangements are pending.

Penny Hoffman
Services for Penny L. Hoffman, 42, of Milan, will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial is in Riverside cemetery , Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the family.

Penny died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Penny Johnson was born Sept. 21, 1958, in Moline.

She enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include her loving companion of 13 years, Max Suggs, Milan; daughters, Jasmine Lee, Carbon Cliff, Michaela Gengler, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Kayla and Eddie Sierra, Serena, Rea and Ky Gengler; sisters, Kitty Johnson, Moline, Vanessa Larson, Calif., Robin Schrempf, Moline and brothers, Allen Johnson, Villa Park, Ill., and Van Johnson, Moline.

Howard Logsdon
Howard J. Logsdon, 85, Milan, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care, Rock Island.

Services are 1 p.m. Friday at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. The Rev. Dr. Douglas Ganyo will officiate. Entombment will be in the Rock Island Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Hodgson Funeral Home Ltd., Rock Island. Memorials to American Lung Association.

He was born July 6, 1915, in Baxter, Iowa, the son of James and Ethel Rose Logsdon. He married Katharyn C. Richeson December 1944 in Rock Island.

He retired in 1978 as supervisor of the Rock Island Centennial Bridge. He previously worked at International Harvester, East Moline. He had worked for 16 years for Cities Service Oil Co., Rock Island.

He was a member of American Legion Post 569, Milan, and the Traveler's Protection Association for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II with the 813th Aviation Engineers. He served in the North Pacific in Alaska for three years and in the South Pacific in Okinawa for one year.

Survivors include his wife, Katharyn, Milan; son, Gary L. Logsdon, Moline; grandsons, Ryan L. and Brandon L. Logsdon, both of Colorado. He was preceded by his parents and a sister, Juanita.

Deborah Williams
Deborah C. Williams, 40, of Coal Valley, died April 15, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline.

Ashley Goembel
Ashley L. Goembel, 20, Geneseo, died Monday, April 16, 2001.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Myers Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery .

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Chapel. Memorials may be made to Colona United Methodist Church, where she was a member.

Ashley Goembel was born May 19, 1980, in Silvis, the daughter of David Lee and Sara Tedell Goembel. She attended Geneseo schools. She worked at Christy's in Geneseo for the last one and a half years. She enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include her mother, Sara, Colona; a sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Aaron Nelson, Peoria; paternal grandfather, Roy Goembel, Colona; maternal grandmother, Sunny Tedell, Moline; an aunt and uncle, Anne and Doug Kaiser, Moline; an aunt and godmother, Laura Enloe, Rapids City; and a special friend, Jay Verscheure. She was preceded in death by her father and paternal grandmother.

Susan Heaton
Susan I. Heaton, 57, of 104 E. 2nd St., Prophetstown, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at her home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Prophetstown. Burial will follow in Riverside cemetery , Prophetstown.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Gardner-Gibson and Son, Prophetstown, is in charge of arrangements.

Susan was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Morrison, the daughter of Russel and Theresa Vos Petersen. She married Leo Heaton in July 1991 in Prophetstown.

She is survived by her husband; stepsons, Aaron and Cory Heaton, Prophetstown; brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Ann Petersen, Morrison; five sisters-in-law including, Jane Casanova and Amy Jones, both of Prophetstown; and nieces and nephews.

Michael Hixson
Additional survivors for Michael C. Hixson, 49, of Illinois City, are a daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Kevin Westervelt, and a grandson Cody Nichols, all of Ovid, N.Y

Mr. Hixson died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Curtis Johnson
Curtis H. Johnson, 78, of 737 46th Ave., Keithsburg, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.

Arrangements are pending at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Josephine McCarthy
Josephine M. McCarthy, 92, of Arlington, Wash., passed away April 12, 2001, in Marysville.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1200 E. 5th St., Arlington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Western and Central Chapters of Alzheimer's Association, 12721 30th Ave. NE, Suite 101, Seattle, WA 98125. Arrangements are under the direction of Weller Funeral Home, Arlington.

She was born Oct. 9, 1908, in Olfen Stadt, Germany, to Joseph and Elisabeth Pennekamp. She was raised with her brother, Joseph in Peoria, and lived most of her life in Illinois. She loved to garden, fish and was a fixer upper of many a thing. She married Robert W. McCarthy in 1944. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Dorothy Dolin, her grandchildren, Eric Dolin and Dawn Marie Dolin Clark and two beautiful great-granddaughters, Keely Dawn and Gabrielle Elizabeth Clark. The family would like to extend a special care and love while she resided with them.

Donald `Don' McRae
Donald J. ``Don" McRae, 74, rural Kewanee, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Oakwood Health Care Center, Kewanee.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee. Dr. James Breed will officiate. Burial is in Pleasant View cemetery , Kewanee, where military rights will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. Visitation is one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Kewanee.

Mr. McRae was born May 5, 1926, in Kewanee, the son of Ross J. and Louise (Warner) McRae.

He graduated from Wethersfield High School and joined the Navy as an aviation cadet in 1944. He transferred to the Naval Reserve at the end of World War II and retired June 1976, as a lieutenant commander of the Judge Advocate General's Corps. He graduated with a BA in 1948 from Northwestern University and a juris doctor from Northwestern University School of Law in 1951. He practiced law in Kewanee for 50 years.

He was a director of Peoples National Bank of Kewanee, a member of the Henry County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. He was a member of Midland Country Club, serving as president for many years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Kewanee.

Survivors include his cousins, Josephine Clark, Galva, Margaret Hooper, Colorado, Joseph Gamble, Oregon; and his special friend, Emily Caras. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Joan Nichols
Joan Nichols, 72, Kewanee, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at her home.

Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial is in Pleasant View cemetery , Kewanee. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Kewanee Animal Shelter.

Mrs. Nichols was born Sept. 24, 1928, in Kewanee, to Dana and Marjorie (Mursner) Epps. She married Charles M. Nichols Oct. 1948, in Kewanee. He preceded her in death in 1983,

Survivors include her sons, Steve, Mike, Jeff, Matt, all of Kewanee; daughters, Marilyn Holtschult and Carolyn Nichols, both of Kewanee; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded by a sister and infant son, Charles Dana.

Anna VanZuiden
Anna VanZuiden, 88, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at the Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment is in Grove Hill cemetery , Morrison. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

She was born Oct. 30, 1912, to John and Jennie (Smith) VanZuiden. She married William VanZuiden Jan. 18, 1937. He died July 14, 1957.

Survivors (and spouses) include daughter, Carol (David) Kuebler, West Lafayette, Ind.; sons, Merwyn (Leta), Lyndon, Ill., Harold (Janice), Carroll; grandchildren, Gregory (Kelly) Rollet, Shawn Rollet, Mindy Erickson, Scott VanZuiden, Todd (Rhonda) VanZuiden, William (Tara) Vanzuiden; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Jennie (Alder) Decker.

Margaret Wancket
Margaret M. Wancket, 87, Annawan, died Monday, April 16, 2001, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Annawan. Burial is in Sacred Heart cemetery . Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Annawan, with a parish rosary at 6 p.m.

She was born June 17, 1913. She married Victor Wancket Feb. 21, 1933. He died Feb. 16, 2001.

Survivors (and spouses) are daughters, Rose Mary (LeRoy) Croegaert, Annawan, Patricia (Mike) Kaiser, Houma, La., Maryann Wancket, LaPlace, La., Jane (Jerry) Isaacson, Princeton; sons, Arthur and Richard, both of Annawan; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Wancket, Annawan; 27 grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Donald Downs
Donald D. Downs, 57, of Davenport, passed away Monday, April, 16, 2001, in Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Runge Mortuary.
