Oscar Trimble
Oscar A. Trimble, 88, Davenport, passed away Friday, April 27, 2001, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park cemetery . Military honors will be conducted.

Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Oscar was born Dec. 30, 1912, in Laurens, Iowa. He was the son of James and Mary Pyle Trimble. He married Nyla Crone in October 1933 in Minnesota. She preceded him in death. He married Dorothy Conklin Glover March 2, 1958, in Davenport. She preceded him in death in 1977. He married Dorothy L. Hidden Nebergall Sept. 25, 1993, in Davenport. She preceded him in death in 1996.

Oscar served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He owned and operated his own trucking company for 14 years, then worked for the Chicago Army district engineer's office for two years before coming to work for the Iowa Department of Transportation as an engineer for 23 years. He retired in 1976.

His memberships include Trinity Lutheran Church, Plus 60 Club, Hines Blind Center, Chicago, life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Blinded Veterans Association of America, and 50-plus-year member of Timber City Legion Post 75, Maquoketa.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Joan Trimble, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Bernell Mills, Milan, Marlyce Yeager, Hodgkins, Ill., Constance J. and Robert Durnit, Belton, Mo., Patricia Zidlicky, Postville, Iowa, and Terri L. Sanderson, Davenport; stepchildren, Robert E. and Shirley Glover, Davenport, Linda Sue and James Riddell, Aledo, and Robert Nebergall, Texas; 15 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; sisters, Hazel Siddall, Minneapolis, Minn., Elnor Miller, Los Angeles, Calif., Bessie Dexter, Pochahontas, Iowa, Marie and husband Donald Jeffers, Laurens, Iowa, and Betty Lou and husband Merle Kerns, Britt, Iowa; and a very special friend, Bobbi Smith, Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and three brothers.

John `Joe' Dailing
John J. ``Joe" Dailing, 91, Rock Island, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery , Rock Island, where Moline American Legion Post 246 will present military honors.

Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the church building fund.

Mr. Dailing was born Nov. 3, 1908, in Baring, Mo., the son of John B. and Julia C. Sheridan Dailing. He married Elsie M. Pulford Aug. 30, 1935, in Moline. She died Jan. 22, 1988.

Joe worked as a quality inspector at the former International Harvester Farmall Works, Rock Island. He retired in 1970 after 43 years of service.

He was a WWII Army veteran, having served in the Philippines and New Guinea.

Mr. Dailing was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he had been a member of St. Pius Retirees and the St. Pius bowling team. He was also a member of the Farmall Retirees Club.

Joe enjoyed gardening, bowling and following the Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and William Lappe, Colona; sons and daughter-in-law, John H. Dailing, Milan, Joseph A. and Diane Dailing, Rockford; grandchildren, Christine Smith, John H. Dailing Jr., Richard Lappe, Richelle Roethler, Elizabeth Dailing, Jonna Lappe, Paul Dailing, Charlie Parkhurst; and great-grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Jessica Lappe, Haley and C.J. Roethler. A granddaughter, Mary Joyce Lappe, and six brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Mary Leonard
Services for Mary J. Leonard, 74, of Rock Island, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island County Humane Society, Milan.

Mrs. Leonard died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Mary Splinter was born June 27, 1926, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Richard and Ella McKenna Splinter. She married George D. Leonard May 11, 1972, in Rock Island.

She was an artist who worked at a studio in her home. She also had taught art at Jordan Catholic School, Rock Island, and at the former St. Joseph Catholic School, Rock Island. Her favorite medium was oil, and she primarily painted scenes.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Left Bank Art League. Mary embraced people of all nations. Her heart and home were always open to others.

Survivors include her husband, George; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Kelly Putnam, Mason City, Iowa, William and Susie Putnam, Westford, Mass.; daughter, Jeanne Putnam, Rock Island; grandson, Kyle Putnam, Westford; and a brother, Robert Splinter, Horicon, Wis.

Her parents and a sister, Gladys Jonas, preceded her in death.

Moline

Michael Higgins
Michael David Higgins, 53, of Moline, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Genesis West, Davenport, after battling with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., Moline. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Military rites will be conducted by Milan American Legion Post 569.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Memorials may be made to the family.

Michael was born Dec. 7, 1946, in Sargeant, Minn., to Clifford Sr. and Esther Thompson Higgins. Michael served in the Army from 1966 to 1968. He married Bernice Hess Sept. 1, 1972, in Rock Island.

He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1994. After retirement, he worked part time in maintenance at Parr Instrument Co., Moline.

Surviving are his wife, Bernice; daughter, Laura Higgins, Moline; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifford and Becky Higgins, Aitkin, Minn., Richard and Mary Higgins, Bettendorf, and Jerry and Sandy Higgins, East Moline; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Katie and Marvin Pater, Lansing, Minn., Dorothy De Boer, Lyle, Minn., Ethel and Earl Zalky, Ostrander, Minn., Nancy Derst, Rochester, Minn., and Suzie and Terry Donovan, Plymouth, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Ernest Veys
Ernest C. Veys, 91, of Iowa City, formerly of Moline, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline.

Kenneth Kemp
Kenneth F. Kemp, 97, of Geneseo, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Good Samaritan Center, Geneseo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Geneseo. Burial will be in North cemetery , Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. Roger Perry will officiate.

Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. today at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Wright Chapel, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Geneseo.

Kenneth Kemp was born July 8, 1903, on a farm near Grandview, Iowa, the son of John P. and Mary Hahn Kemp. He graduated from Grandview High School in 1921. He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1934 from Iowa State University, where he was a member of the engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi, and scholastic honor society, Phi Kappa Phi. He married Ruth Elizabeth Hicks Aug. 4, 1935, in Kingston, Mo. She died Nov. 8, 1992.

He worked as a tractor design engineer for John Deere Tractor Works, Waterloo, Iowa, for 34 years, retiring in 1968. He moved to Geneseo in 1971.

He was a member of Waterloo Technical Society and First United Methodist Church, Geneseo. He was a charter member of St. Timothy's Methodist Church, Cedar Falls, Iowa, when it was organized in 1952; he served the church as chairman of the board, financial secretary, conference delegate and on the parsonage committee.

He enjoyed photography, woodworking, gardening and reading.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Warren Hadley, Cambridge; his son and daughter-in-law, Floyd and Lori Kemp, Black Mountain, N.C.; grandchildren and spouses, Karen and Alan Lyman, Pamela Hadley and Matthew Rispoli, Timothy and Marydee Kemp, Ann Kemp and Patricia Kemp; great-grandchildren, Stephen and Katie Kemp, Andrea and Lauren Lyman and Ellen Rispoli; sisters, Zella Peck, Mediapolis, Iowa, Ruth Townsley, Donnelson, Iowa, and Ethel Buster, Wapello, Iowa. His parents, wife, three sisters and a brother preceded him in death.

Iowa

Dorothy Clemons
Dorothy May Clemons, 86, Davenport, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Davenport Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from noon to service time. Memorials to a favorite charity.

Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy was born Jan. 12, 1914, in Illinois City, the daughter of Charles Edward and Hazel Rose Morrow Hunter. She married Homer ``Jack" Clemons in 1942 in St. Louis, Mo. He died in 1984.

Survivors include nephews, Tom, John and Dan Murphy; special nieces and nephews; and special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Goetsch and family. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death, as did her parents.

Doris Gordon
Doris Gordon, 95, of Bettendorf and Davenport, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at the Iowa Masonic Nursing Home, Bettendorf.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport, with visitation from noon to service time. Further arrangements are pending.

Penny Hoffman
Penny L. Hoffman, 42, Milan, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.

A.E. `Pete' Rule
Services for A.E. ``Pete" Rule, 79, Rock Island, will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Girard, Ill., cemetery .

Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Girard High School Athletic Department.

Mr. Rule died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. He was born March 21, 1922, in Nilwood, Ill., the son of Lee and Della May Rule. He married Patricia A. Christy April 27, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo.

Mr. Rule was a quality-control supervisor at the former J.I. Case, Rock Island. Mr. Rule was the former president and treasurer of J.I. Case Credit Union and a board member with Mississippi Valley Chapter Credit Unions. He spent his retirement with his family. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; daughters and sons-in-law, Patrice and Ronald Day, Rock Island, Pamela and William Andrew, Chatham, Ill.; son, Ronald Rule, Rock Island; sister, Ethel Myers, Auburn, Ill.; brothers and sister-in-law, the Rev. Lee and Juanita Rule, Girard, and Kenneth Rule, East Moline; grandchildren, Sara and Karen Rule, residing with grandparents Mr. Rule and his wife, Rock Island, Tricia Day, Carbon Cliff, Kevin Day and his wife, Diney, Rock Island, Kristen Andrew, University of Illinois, Champaign, Kyle Andrew, Chatham, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Devin, Lindsay; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Jean Rule; his parents; a brother; and a sister.

Ruth McCullough
Ruth E. McCullough, 96, Moline, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Arrangements are pending at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline.

Anna Siefken
A memorial service for Anna Siefken will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, East Moline. The Rev. Eric Nielson will officiate.

Anna died Dec. 29, 2000, at Aspenwood Care Center, Silvis, at the age of 102. She was born and raised in East Moline, and she had taught in the East Moline Public School System for more than 40 years. She was a charter member of First Presbyterian Church.

Christopher Hill
Memorial services for Christopher Scott Hill, 40, of 703 7th St. Hilltop Mobile Homes, Bloomington, Ill., formerly of Geneseo, are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 4114 E. Oakland Ave. (Towanda Barnes Road and East Oakland Avenue), Bloomington, with the Rev. Joel Erickson officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

Mr. Hill died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at his home.

He was born Jan. 30, 1961, in Great Lakes, Ill., the son of Richard F. and Beth Ann Johnson Hill.

Mr. Hill was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was currently employed at Westside Forest Products, Bloomington.

Surviving are his parents, Richard F. and Beth Ann Hill, Elmwood, Ill.; daughters, Amanda, Jenna and Alyssa Hill, all of Moline; and a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Edmundo Montoya, Elmwood.

Donald McRae
Donald ``Don" McRae, 74, rural Kewanee, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Oakwood Health Care Center, Kewanee.

Arrangements are pending at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee.

Craig Peiffer
Craig L. Peiffer, 54, Geneseo, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy, after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo, where he was a member. The Rev. Michael Pakula will celebrate. Burial will be in Northside cemetery , Geneseo, with military honors accorded by the Atkinson American Legion.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Atkinson. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Craig L. Peiffer Memorial Fund.

Craig was born Feb. 11, 1947, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Lenard and Rosa Schaunberg Peiffer. He married Rosetta Williams March 1, 1969, in Geneseo.

Craig had worked with his father-in-law, Francis Williams, at the former Belanger Farm Equipment Co., Geneseo, for many years. He later worked as regional sales manager for Gutwein Seed Co., Francesville, Ind., last working in 1995 because of his illness.

He had served for many years on the Henry County Fair Board and had been an avid supporter of the FFA program at J.D. Darnall High School, Geneseo. He also had been involved in owning and training standard-bred horses. He loved to golf, fish, hunt and fly. He was a graduate of Geneseo High School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Rosetta; daughters, Traci Threlkeld, Geneseo, and Tara Sacakli, Rock Island; a sister and spouse, Dianne and Fred Groth, Arlington Heights, Ill.; and five grandchildren, Danielle, Ashley, Haley and Hakan Jr. Sacakli and Courtney Threlkeld. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Francis Williams on Feb. 17, 2001.

Ivan Aronson Sr.
Services for Ivan Leslie Aronson Sr., 85, Blue Grass, are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. today.

He died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Genesis West, Davenport. He was born Dec. 3, 1915, in Fairfield, Iowa.

He worked as an artillery assembler at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1973. He was a WWII Air Forces veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Selma; sons, Ivan Jr., Urbana, Ohio, Richard, Davenport, and Steven, Parkview, Iowa; daughter, Deborah Krohn, Durant; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Harlan Aronson, Bettendorf; and sisters, Fern Martin, Fairfield, and Lillian Thornburg and Evelyn Whiting, both of Salem, Iowa.
