Lora M. Corken
Lora M. Corken, 90, a resident of St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at the center.
Private services will be Thursday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial is in Chippiannock cemetery , Rock Island. There is no visitation. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center.
Lora Beck was born Sept. 9, 1910, in Arcadia, Wis., the daughter of Arnold and Johanna Grotjohn Beck. She married
Francis Corken Oct. 23, 1935, in Chicago. He died May 20, 1973.
Mrs. Corken had worked in sales at the former Petersen Harned von Maur store, downtown Davenport, for 15 years. She retired in 1972.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sharon Corken, Bettendorf; grandchildren (and spouses), Julie (Daryl) Jahn and Jenny (John) Robnett, all of Bettendorf, Mary Beth (Matt) McWright, Foster City, Calif., and Maggie (Nick) Sanquist, Port Byron; 12 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Olga Poulsen, Winter Haven, Fla., and Clara Rollins, Rock Island.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary; sister, Ella; and brothers, Albert, Arnold and Hugo.

Funeral services for Barbara Haggard, 67, of East Moline, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Home, Lineville, Iowa. Burial will be in Early cemetery , Mercer, Mo. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline.
Mrs. Haggard died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Foursquare Gospel Church, East Moline, where she was a member.
Barbara Hutchins was born March 19, 1933, in Lineville, the daughter of Ottis L. and Nellie K. (Porter) Hutchins. She married
Richard ``Dick" Haggard March 24, 1951, in Van Buren, Ark. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was very active in her church.
Survivors include her husband; sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Abby Haggard, Worthington, Ohio, E. Joe and Barbara Haggard, Worthington, Billy and Denise Haggard, Moline; grandchildren and spouse, Colleen E. Haggard, Jason and Amber Haggard, Sheena Haggard, Erin R. Haggard, Emily M. Haggard and Sean M. Haggard; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jennie and Robert Rumph, East Moline, Erba Miller, Bettendorf, Frankie and Wayne Beverage, Wichita, Kan., Patricia and Gary Parsons, Camanche, Iowa, and Peggy and Glenn Garner, Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mabel Baldwin LaSpina
Mabel C. Baldwin LaSpina, 89, of 4747 11th St., East Moline, formerly of Colona House, East Moline, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Forest Hill Health, East Moline.
Graveside services are 10 a.m. Friday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. There is no visitation. Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Sept. 27, 1911, in Mott, N.D., the daughter of Claude and Elizabeth Ditter O'Dell.
She married
James Baldwin in 1930 in Detroit, Mich. He died in 1936. She then married
Elmer Schake. He died in 1964. She then married
Joel LaSpina and they were divorced.
She was a bank teller for various banks in St. Louis, Mo., Florida, Moline, and Silvis.
She was a member of Moline Gospel Temple.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Ruth Baldwin, Moline; sister, Jean O'Dell, Kansas City, Mo.; grandsons, Bill, Michael and David, all of Moline, and James, St. Louis; and seven great-grandchildren.
Martha Lazoen
Services for Martha G. Lazoen, 89, of East Moline, will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline.
Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she was a member.
Mrs. Lazoen died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.
Martha Van Tieghem was born Jan. 1, 1912, in East Moline, the daughter of August and Marie (Gotelaere) Van Tieghem. She married
Leon Lazoen June 17, 1943, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. He died Feb. 2, 2000.
During WWII, she worked at the Rock Island Arsenal.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening and playing cards. She loved her family and friends.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Veronica and Chris Ericksen, Davenport; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Belinda Lazoen, East Moline, and a grandson, Ryan Lazoen, at home. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three brothers.

Services for Emily Carter, 93, formerly of Silvis, are 9 a.m. Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.
Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Emily died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.
She was born Aug. 20, 1907, in McLeansboro, Ill., the daughter of Johnie and Rildea Launius Johnson. She married
Omer A. Carter Sept. 15, 1925, in McLeansboro. He died in 1978.
Mrs. Carter worked in the laundry at the former East Moline State Hospital. In earlier days she ran Carter's Lunch in East Moline.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Helen Carter and Richard and Diane Carter, all of Silvis; grandchildren, Linda, Steven and Danny; great-grandchildren, Steven Carter and Macy Carter; her twin sister, Emma French, McLeansboro; and a brother James Johnson, Lowell, Ind. She was preceded in death by brothers Carl, Earl and Kenny.

Alma M. Burch, 89, Kewanee, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Toulon Health Care Center.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kewanee, where she was a member. Burial is in St. Anthony's Catholic Church cemetery , Atkinson.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee, with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m.
She was born Sept. 2, 1911, in Aardenberg, Holland, to Leonard and Amelia Mille. She married
Peter Dhondth, who preceded her in death. She married
Noble Burch, who also preceded her in death.
Surviving are daughters, Alma Hampton, Kewanee, and Shirlee Clark, Wilmington, Del.; foster daughter, Sharon Hulslander, Springfield, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Englar died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Parkview Healthcare Center, East Moline.
She was born Sept. 6, 1917, in Coatsville, Mo., the daughter of Victor and Mary Hoover Weldon. She married
Harry R. Byant Oct. 18, 1933, in Centerville, Iowa. He died in 1965. She married
Ralph Englar Jan. 10, 1979, in San Jose, Calif. He died in 1995.
She was a housewife and enjoyed traveling and reading.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Bob Kessler, Hillsdale, Carolyn and Bill Booth, West Jordan, Utah, and Judi Smith, San Jose; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sister, Fern Moore; brother, Jim Weldon; and a grandson, Nathan Booth.

Mary McCaw was born Oct. 10, 1921, in Millersburg Township. She married
Charles Monson July 17, 1943, in Aledo. He died in 1993.
Mary was a court reporter in Mercer County and worked for Hoyt Lee and Emil Anderson in the Mercer County Circuit Clerk Office.
Survivors include sons, Randall, Chipley, Fla., and Dana, Aledo; sisters, Doris Hyett, Aledo, and Phyllis Willetts, New Boston; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Beverly Van Fleet
Beverly Van Fleet, 72, of Alexis, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Alexis. Burial is in Alexis cemetery . Friends may call after 3 p.m., Thursday at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established to be designated later.
She was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Galesburg to Frank and Madeline Otto. She married
Fred Van Fleet.
She had owned and operated the North Forty Tavern in Alexis.
Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Weatherly, Arcadia, Fla.; sons, Danny, Paradise, Utah, and Jim and Tony, both of Alexis; three granddaughters; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
Marion Wassell
Services for Marion J. Wassell, 64, Port Byron, are 11 a.m. Thursday at Wildwood Baptist Church, East Moline, with the Rev. Scott Boerckel officiating. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Marion was born March 23, 1936, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Malcom Miller and Eleanor Locke. She married
Richard B. Wassell Sept. 30, 1966, in Port Byron.
She was a legal secretary for the former Lytton and Dalton Law Firm and manager of Home Interior and Gifts, retiring in 1988 because of poor health.
She was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, home decorating and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Dawn Wassell, Port Byron; and grandchildren, Luke and Kayla. She was preceded in death by a brother and her stepfather.

Services for V. Kathryn Davis, 52, Davenport, are 11 a.m. Thursday at Pentecostal Church of God, Davenport. Burial is in Oakdale Memorial Park, Davenport.

She was born Dec. 14, 1948, in Huntsville, Mo., to Henry and Mary Davis.
Surviving are a daughter, LaToya Davis, Davenport; son, Jason Davis, Davenport; two grandchildren; siblings, Hilda Heard, Larry and Kenneth, Des Moines, and Brenda Davis, Davenport.
