Services for Andrew James, 65, Davenport, are 11 a.m. Friday at Third Missionary Baptist Church, Davenport. Burial is in Fairmount cemetery , Davenport.

Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Friday at the church. Orr's Mortuary, Rock Island, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Manor Care, Davenport.

He was born July 20, 1935, in Chicago, the son of Jessie and Viloa James. He married Dorothy Norvell, Oct. 18, 1958, in Chicago.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; and a daughter, Andra James, Chicago.

Lloyd Platt
Lloyd G. Platt, 84, of Davenport, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.

Margaret Sampson
Services for Margaret K. Sampson, 85, Davenport, are 11:30 a.m. Friday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Mrs. Sampson died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Trinity North, Davenport.

Margaret was born July 9, 1915, in Davenport, the daughter of Edward and Katherine Wentz Cundiff. She married William Sampson June 29, 1939, in Davenport. He died in 1988.

She is survived by sons, Steven, Mission Viejo, Calif., Arthur, Loveland, Colo., and Sid, Davenport; and a granddaughter.

Gladys Schroeder
Services for Gladys M. Schroeder, 99, Davenport, are 2 p.m. Thursday at Weerts, Davenport. Private burial is in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today.

Mrs. Schroeder died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Davenport Lutheran Home.

She was born Nov. 30, 1901, in Genoa, Neb., the daughter of Howard and Lillie Lamb Yetter. She married Harry Schroeder in 1926 in Columbus, Neb. He died in 1949.

Surviving are daughters, Shirley Dean and Evonne Welp, both of Davenport; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Edna Thiergart
Edna Eva Thiergart, 84, Davenport, died Jan. 23, 2001, at Meadow Lawn Nursing Center, Davenport.

Services are 2:30 p.m. Friday at Runge, Davenport, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.

She was born Jan. 4, 1917, the daughter of Otto and Martha Thiergart. She graduated from Davenport High School and New York Foundling Hospital, as an infant nurse.

She raised and cared for Joli Kansil, Glen and Janet Barrett. Her many nieces and nephews lovingly remember her as the aunt who brought Christmas and never forgot their birthdays.

Robert Eagle
Services for Robert A. Eagle, 79, Rock Island, are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Memorial Park cemetery , Rock Island.

Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the church or to a favorite charity.

Mr. Eagle died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Robert was born March 5, 1922, in Moline, the son of Edward L. and Elsie Snook Eagle. He married Frances Healy Feb. 2, 1946, in Wynnewood, Pa.

Bob graduated from Moline High School, the University of Illinois and the University of Illinois Law School. He had been a practicing attorney in Rock Island since 1946. Mr. Eagle had served as city attorney for Rock Island in the 1950s and was the Rock Island County public defender for seven years. He was a member of the State of Illinois Appellate Defender Commission and the Rock Island County Bar Association.

Mr. Eagle served as a carrier-based Navy fighter pilot in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1945. He earned two Air Medals with Gold Stars and an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with a Bronze Star. He served on the carrier USS Independence.

He was a member of the University of Illinois President's Council and received the University of Illinois Alumni Association Loyalty Award. Bob had been a member of the Bethany Home Board of Directors, a commissioner of the Rock Island County Metropolitan Airport Authority, board member and past president of Short Hills Country Club, East Moline, and a member of Broadway Presbyterian Church, where he had been a trustee and elder.

Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed golf, tennis, fishing and painting. Bob loved the sport of baseball and especially the Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Fred Lukasik, Rock Island, Elizabeth Eagle Teros and James Teros, Moline, Carolyn Eagle and Frederick Simmon, St. Louis, Eileen and Joseph LeCluyse, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Barbara and Brian Cady, Rock Island; grandchildren, Douglas and Kallie Lukasik, Teddy Teros, Robert and Isaac Simmon, Megan and Anne LeCluyse and Adam Cady; and brothers, Edward L. Eagle Jr., Rock Island, and Richard A. Eagle, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Leonard Goldsmith
Leonard Goldsmith, 80, of Rock Island, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Tri-City Jewish Center, Rock Island, with Rabbi Alan Shavit-Lonstein officiating. Burial is in Hebrew cemetery , Rock Island.

There is no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Tri-City Jewish Center.

Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard was born Feb. 9, 1921, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to Louis and Anna Grossman Goldsmith. He married Rose Sanders June 22, 1944, in Davenport.

He was a graduate of Rock Island High School and attended Augustana College and the former Moline Business College.

In WWII, he was a bombardier in the Army Air Forces, serving in Italy.

He was a furrier and owned and operated Goldsmith's Furrier & Ladies Ready to Wear in Moline. He retired in 1981.

He was a member of the Tri-City Jewish Center and belonged to the center's Men's Club. He enjoyed his family and photography.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Goldsmith; daughters (and spouses), Linda (Barry) Gersick, Minneapolis, Minn., Judee Cristy, Kennesaw, Ga., Lori (Bill) Prebil, Minneapolis; grandchildren, Stephanie Gouette, Andrea Gersick, Jamie and Jorie Cristy, Sarah and Carolyn Prebil; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a son-in-law.

Elizabeth Melton
Elizabeth A. Melton, Cape Fair, Mo., formerly of Rock Island, died April 27, 2001, at Manor Care in Springfield, Mo.

Private family graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cape Fair, Mo., cemetery .

Elizabeth was born Sept. 29, 1931, in Burbank, Calif., the daughter of Floyd and Elizabeth Holderby.

She was a 17-year resident of Rock Island.

Survivors include her husband, Hubert Melton, Cape Fair; sons and their wives, Mark and Robin Melton, Springfield, Mo., Kent and Martha Melton, Pasadena, Calif., and Scott and Kris Melton, Fayetteville, Ark.; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy Jones, Springfield, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Stanley.

Robert Petersmith
Robert C. Petersmith, 85, of 1900 6th Ave., Rock Island, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at home.

Arrangements are pending at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Allen Tiefenbach
Burial for Allen Tiefenbach, 54, Eaton Park, Fla., formerly of Rock Island, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at National cemetery , Arsenal Island, with military honors.

He died April 20 in Florida.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Chris Dease, a son, John, grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler Dease, all of Florida; his mother, Myrtle Tiefenbach, Eaton Park; sister, Nancy Leithner and husband, John, nieces, Linnsey Leithner and Laura Estes and husband, Scott, and great-niece, Faith Estes, all of Rock Island; and best friend, Judy Kirkland, Auburndale, Fla.

Kathryn Hardin
Kathryn L. Hardin, 79, Moline, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 1216 5th Ave., Moline. The Rev. Christian Meyer will officiate. Burial will be at Scotts cemetery in Plymouth, Ill.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Kathryn Shanks was born Feb. 3, 1922, in McDonough County in Illinois, the daughter of Wallace and Bessie Toland Shanks. She married Louis Reans Oct. 30, 1940, and married Charles Hardin Jan. 18, 1964; both preceded her in death.

Kathryn worked at Hardin Sales Co. in Rock Island and Glicks Jewelers in Davenport while also owning a Baskin Robbins in Rock Island. Kathryn's last place of employment was at Dingeldein Gardens, where she was a bookkeeper.

Kathryn had a little business making clothes for ornamental geese. She also enjoyed cooking and doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors (and spouses) include a daughter, Janice Stover, Moline; sons, John (Susan) Reans, Waterloo, Iowa, and Jim (Vicki) Reans, East Moline; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew.

Carole Natwick
Carole R. Natwick, 57, Moline, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where further arrangements are pending.

Bernard Farren
Bernard Gene Farren, 71, East Moline, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at home with his loving family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Moline Gospel Temple Auditorium. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary Ltd., 1216 5th Ave., Moline., where further arrangements are pending.

Wayne Schumacher
Wayne L. Schumacher, 64, East Moline, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at home.

Arrangements are pending at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline.

Margaret Procknow
Margaret Procknow, 83, of 2961 Cherokee Trail, Ohatchee, Ala., died April 27, 2001.

A memorial service is tentatively set for Tuesday at Gray Brown Service Chapel, Anniston, Ala. The Rev. Joseph C. Jones will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

She was born in Monmouth and was a lifelong resident of Illinois. She moved to Calhoun County, Ala., about three years ago. She was a State of Illinois employee and retiree. She was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include daughters, Betsy Borchert, Little Rock, Ark., and Georgia Saxon, Ohatchee; grandchildren, Todd Godfrey, Jennifer Godfrey and Joleyn Godfrey; and a great-grandchild, Travis Godfrey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Procknow.

Wayne Richards
Wayne G. Richards, 74, of 1154 N. 10th St., Clinton, Iowa, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Fulton. Memorials to Clinton Church of Christ in Clinton.

He was born Dec. 12, 1926, in Aurora to Clarence and Zelma Richards. He married Anna Young Oct. 27, 1944, in Kahoka, Mo.

Surviving are his wife; children, Connie Vegter, Morrison, Christine Richards and Loetta Holton, both of Fulton, Dr. Janise Richards, Decatur, Ga., and Curt, Chattanooga, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, June Bashor, Billings, Mont.

Richard Bagley
Services for Richard Bagley, 49, Davenport, are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial is Friday at Our Lady of Czestochowa cemetery , Doylestown, Pa.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, with a prayer service at 5. He died April 25, 2001, at home.

Surviving are his father, Casper Bagley, and stepmother, Eleanor Bagley, Centerville, Mass.; siblings, Patricia, Willow Grove, Pa., Christine, Philadelphia, Pa., Matthew, Germany, Lt. Col. Martin, Fredericksburg, Va.; and close personal friend, Michael Miller, Davenport.

Marcia Hartman, 63, Davenport, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.
