Lester Orwig, 64, LaFayette, Ill., died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at home.

Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Burial is in LaFayette cemetery .

Visitation is 6 to 8 tonight. Memorials may go to a favorite charity.

He was born June 24, 1936, in Stark County, Ill., to Gerald and Lucille Daniels Orwig. He married Bertha Brown Sept. 21, 1963, in Burlington, Iowa.

He was a carpenter, farmer, truck driver and mechanic. He enjoyed his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife; his mother, Lucille Orwig, LaFayette; sons, Joe, Toulon, Ill., John, Van Cleave, Miss., and Jeff, Kinsley, Kan.; a daughter, Jill Orwig, Galva; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Marion Wassell
Marion J. Wassell, 64, of Port Byron died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at home.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary Ltd., East Moline, where further arrangements are pending.

Arline Bickford
Services for Arline F. Bickford, 80, Davenport, are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial is in National cemetery , Rock Island.

Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport. Memorials go to the American Turner Endowment Fund or the church.

Arline died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at home.

She was born March 2, 1920, in Davenport, to Lester and Viola Norgardt Dau. She married Col. Robert Bickford Oct. 16, 1941. He died in 1968.

Surviving are children, Lester, Joplin, Mo., Denise, Davenport, Robert, Torrance, Calif., and Mary, Springfield, Ore.; six grandchildren; brothers, Charles Dau, Davenport, and Glen Dau, Bettendorf; and a very special friend, Jerry Ceurvorst.

Zella Bishop
Zella Bishop, 72, Davenport, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Runge Mortuary. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. today.

She was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Davenport to Henry and Florence Rafferty Smith. She married Robert Bishop in 1949 in Dubuque, Iowa. He died in 1999.

She was a secretary at the Rock Island Arsenal.

Survivors include daughters, Marsha Myers, Katy, Texas, and Diana Hughes, Louisville, Ky.; five grandchildren, and a brother, Shad Smith, Davenport.

Oscar Callison
Oscar Callison, 84, formerly of Davenport, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at USA Health Care, Urbandale, Iowa, following an extended illness.

Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at National cemetery , Rock Island. Memorials go to the Parkinson's Foundation. Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Newton, Iowa. He married Eva Marling Dec. 24, 1946, in Rock Island. She died Dec. 13, 1990.

He worked at Caterpillar in Mount Joy until his retirement. He served in the Army during World War II.

Survivors include daughters, Sue Johnson, Des Moines, and Betty Callison, Davenport; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Verna Davis
Verna Davis, 52, Davenport, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at home.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Pentecostal Church of God, Davenport. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time at the church.

Arrangements are pending at Orr's Mortuary, Rock Island.

Neva Hamann
Services for Neva Hamann, 81, Davenport, are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Weerts Funeral Home.

She died Jan. 21, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center North, Davenport.

She was born in Argo, Iowa, to Oregon and Sadie Stewart Garlough. She married Myrl Pennock in 1935. She married Alvan Hamann in 1948. He died in 1994.

Survivors include children, Raymond Pennock, DeWitt, Iowa, Betty Jackson, Stockton, Mo., Robert Pennock, Clinton, Iowa, Geri Sanders, Venice, Fla., Susan Fonken, Blairsburg, Iowa, and Loyal Pennock, Marlene Dixon, Roxeann Ford and Michael Hamann, Davenport; 28 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Arlene Staggs, Davenport, and Leora McMahon, DeWitt.

Andrew James
Andrew James, 65, Davenport, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Manor Care, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Orr's Mortuary, Rock Island.

Martha Miclot
Services for Martha Miclot, 83, Davenport, are 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Burial is in Mount Calvary cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, with a wake service at 7 p.m.

She died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Kahl Home, Davenport.

Surviving are her husband, Richard; children, Philip, Ohio, Stephen, Colorado, the Rev. Brian, Davenport, Peter, Virginia, Lt. Col. Jonathan, USMC, California, and Jerome and Christine, Davenport; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; and siblings, Marion Mullin and Edward Stamer, Davenport.

Margaret Sampson
Margaret K. Sampson, 85, Davenport, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, North Campus, Davenport.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Friday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Lawrence `Tip' Tyler
Lawrence ``Tip" Tyler, 83, Davenport, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Genesis West, Davenport.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Alban's Episcopal, Davenport. Burial is in National cemetery , Rock Island.

His family will be there to visit before the service. Runge Mortuary is handling arrangements.

He was born in Illinois City to William and Stella Huey Tyler. He married Beatrice Gray in 1949 in Rock Island. She died in 1971. He married Rea Wilkerson in 1972 in Davenport.

Survivors include a son, Jeff, Denver, Colo.; four stepchildren, and seven stepgrandchildren.

William `Billy'

Services for William VanHoosier, 49, Davenport, are 1 p.m. Thursday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

He died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at home.

He was born May 17, 1951, in Rock Island.

Survivors include his wife, Debra; daughter, Mindy VanHoosier, Davenport; sons, Steven Boyd and Nathan Midey, Davenport; sisters, Vicky Kruse, Davenport, and Beth Ripple, Gibsonia, Pa.; a brother, Donald, Prophetstown; a grandson; and a grandmother, Minnie Ullrich, Davenport.

Marcella `Sally'

Marcella Weimerskirch, 86, Davenport, formerly of Bettendorf, died Jan. 22, 2001, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic. Burial is in Mount Calvary cemetery , Davenport.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport.

She married Joseph Weimerskirch in 1938 in Maquoketa. He died in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Arndt, Bettendorf; son, Bob, Roseville, Calif.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Cavey, Racine, Wis.

Alvina Mlekush
Alvina Ann Mlekush, 94, formerly of Staunton, Ill., and Rock Island, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Manor Care Nursing Facility, Normal, Ill.

Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Williamson Funeral Home, Staunton. Burial is in Memorial Park cemetery , Staunton.

Visitation is 1 p.m. to service time. Memorials to Macoupin County Genealogy Society or St. Paul's United Church of Christ, both in Staunton.

She was born Dec. 15, 1906, in Geisenkirchen, Germany, a daughter of Otto and Maria Nuhse Toenniges.

Survivors include a daughter, Adeline Glenwright, and a granddaughter, both of Normal, Ill.; sisters, Emma Brink, Staunton, and Augusta Goehe, Gillespie, Ill.; a niece, Joan Davis, Paris, Texas; two nephews; and two cousins.

Leonard Radmacher
Leonard W. Radmacher, 83, Peoria, Ill., formerly of Rock Island, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Proctor Hospital, Peoria.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a rosary recited at 4:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Peoria Animal Shelter.

Mr. Radmacher was born June 3, 1917, in Monmouth, son of William and Barbara Honsa Radmacher. He married Wilma Clark in 1941 in Davenport.

After studying radio and electricity in Chicago in 1936-37, he co-founded Tri-City Appliance Co. in 1939 in Rock Island. Later, he established Consumer Products Co., a frozen-grocery home-delivery retailing business in Peoria. He retired in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma; sons, Mark Radmacher, Peoria, Steve Radmacher and his wife, Patricia, Seattle, Wash., and Todd Radmacher, Champaign, Ill.; six grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; a sister, Helen Laity, Rock Island; and several nieces and nephews.

Edith Cooper
Services for Edith M. Cooper, 89, Moline, are 1 p.m. Monday at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in Hampton cemetery , Hampton, Ill. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Cooper died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

She was born July 4, 1911, in Hampton, the daughter of Albert and Lucy Henery Bowles. She married Wesley L. Cooper.

She was office manager for Dr. G.L. Taylor, Moline, for many years.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline, Hazel Mavity King's Daughters, Moline Woman's Club and Rock Island County Historical Society.

Survivors (and spouses) include her daughter, Nancy (Ernie) Seggebruch, Geneseo; grandchildren, Mark and Debbie Seggebruch, Greeley, Colo.; stepgreat-grandchildren, Joshua and Tara Nabb; and sister, Elizabeth (Harold) Reiling, Atkinson. She was preceded in death by brothers, Dan, Warren and Albert Bowles.
