Eddie Hines
Eddie Hines, 50, Alpha, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home, Alpha. The Rev. Don Robinson will officiate. Burial is in Alpha cemetery .
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Quad Cities Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
Eddie Hines was born June 6, 1950, in Rock Island, the son of Otis and Betty Whitaker Hines. He married
Martha Bouden Loveridge Aug. 1, 1992, in Alpha.
He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1968. He was an inventory-parts specialist for Deere & Co. Parts Distribution Center, Milan. He loved music, baseball and movie videos.
Survivors include his wife, Martha, Alpha; mother, Betty Fox, Milan; grandmother, Lillie Fox, Pleasant Valley, Iowa; daughter, Trisha Hines, Rock Island; son, Michael Hines, Fort Dodge, Iowa; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Lynn and Keith Enstrom, Silvis; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Brad and Melody Loveridge, Keithsburg; and five stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and by his stepfather, Larry Fox.
Charles Huizenga
Charles Huizenga, 82, Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, formerly of Thomson, Ill., died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the home.
Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Fulton. Burial is in Fulton Township cemetery .
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
He was born April 15, 1919, in Ustick Township, Whiteside County, to Claus and Kate Eissens Huizenga. He married
Kathryn Pessman in 1941 in Fulton. She died in 1987.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois Spencer, Thomson; a son, Arlyn, Morrison; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude Dreolema, Min Huizenga, Hildred Buikema and Bernice Workman, all of Fulton, and Anna Smith, Morrison; and a brother, Paul, Morrison.
Beretta Giese
Beretta Giese, 75, Davenport, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Genesis West, Davenport.
No services will be held. Weerts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials go to Gilda's Club Quad Cities or the American Cancer Society.
She was born March 24, 1926, in Guin, Ala., to Lyndy and Mollie Henderson Ledlow. He married
Arthur F. Giese Nov. 11, 1961, in East Moline. He died July 19, 1978.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Ron May, Davenport; two grandchildren; and a sister, Eula Elliott, Winfield, Ala.
Gary `Ol' Hess' Hesselberg
Gary Hesselberg, 55, Long Grove, Iowa, died April 21, 2001, at Genesis West, Davenport.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bangor, Wis. Burial is in Rockland (Wis.) cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries and 10 a.m. to service time at the church.
Surviving are children Nicole Norton, Bettendorf, Erin Hesselberg, Iowa City, Kerianne Hesselberg, Davenport, Scott, Moline, and Jason, Ann Arbor, Mich.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; his mother, Lucille Hesselberg, Sparta, Wis.; a sister and two brothers. He was preceded in death by his father, William.
Marilyn James
Marilyn James, 66, Bettendorf, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Genesis West, Davenport.
Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Davenport Memorial Park. Private visitation will be today at McGinnis, Chambers and Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Memorials go to the family for a tree to be planted in her memory.
She was born Nov. 19, 1934, in Corning, Iowa, to Daniel and Ena Abbey Nichols.
She retired as assistant director of nursing at Moline Public Hospital.
Survivors include sons, Michael, Bellevue, Neb., and Robert, Barneveld, Wis.; a daughter, Bonita James, Davenport; nine grandchildren, and a brother, Donald Nichols. She was preceded in death by children, Betty Suellen and Bruce Steven, and a sister, Alice Jeter.
Jeremy Moreland
Jeremy Moreland, 3, Eldridge, Iowa, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Weerts.
He was born Nov. 11, 1997, to Kenneth and Lori Wise Moreland.
Surviving are parents; siblings, Alicia, Jesse and Adam, at home; grandparents, G.L. and Brenda Cashdollar and Sterling Floyd, York, Pa., and Marilyn Moreland and Harold and Betty Moreland, Pana, Ill.; and a great-grandmother, Cora Floyd, Red Lion, Pa.
Clara Snodderly
Services for Clara Snodderly, 75, Davenport, are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Baptist Church, East Moline. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport.
She died April 20, 2001, at home.
She was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Nappanee, Ind.
Surviving are children, Linda Johnson, South Bend, Ind., Jean Ross, Fort Meyers, Fla., Martha Sims and Arch Green, Tucson, Ariz., Earl Walker, Bettendorf, and Ernie Ross, LaPorte, Ind.; four sisters; a brother; 23 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.
Charles Bald
Services for Charles P. Bald, 95, a resident of the Mount Vernon Care Center, Mount Vernon, Ill., formerly of Rock Island and Kankakee, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, with visitation one hour prior to the service. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery , Rock Island.
Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the church.
Mr. Bald died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at the center.
Charles was born Sept. 3, 1905, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Edward and Mary Agnes Cooney Bald. He married
Clara Cabooter May 15, 1929 in Rock Island. She died July 9, 1987.
He had worked as bookkeeper for the former Vincent J. Neu Oldsmobile dealership, Davenport, retiring in 1970. In earlier years he had worked for the former Tillotson Motor's, Moline.
Charles was a former member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Kankakee. He was a member of AARP.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Harvey Jarvis, Mt. Vernon; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Sally Bald, South Hadley, Mass.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel Keller, Kalamazoo, Mich.; and brother, Vincent Bald, Wahpeton, N.D.
Helen Holm
Helen Louise Holm, 80, of Stelle, Ill., formerly of Rock Island, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at home.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were by Herscher Chapel of Schreffler Funeral Homes, Kankakee, Ill.
Helen was born Dec. 22, 1919, the daughter of Carl and Josephine (Richtman) Holst. She married
Wilton Robert Holm April 25, 1942.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Victoria Holm Matthews, Stelle, Ill., and Cynthia Holm Cohn, Kona, Hawaii. She was preceded by her husband and parents.
Samuel Nightingale
Samuel Nightingale, 73, Rock Island, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Rock Island. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the church or to the Salvation Army, Davenport.
Mr. Nightingale was born Aug. 10, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Samuel and Ella Mae Scott Nightingale. He married
Barbara J. Mishler June 2, 1956, in Toledo.
Sam graduated from the University of Toledo with a bachelor's degree in education and received a master's degree from Bowling Green State University. He retired from the Rock Island/Milan Public Schools and had served as principal of Longfellow School, Rock Island.
Mr. Nightingale was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rock Island, the Good News Sunday school class and Methodist Men, both of the church. He was a 50-year member of Northern Lights Lodge 40, Maumee, Ohio, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Rock Island, A.A.R.P. and was a life-member of the National Education Association. He was a former member of Rock Island Kiwaniws Club and the Phi Delta Kappa fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Cathy, Oak Park, Ill., David and Jody, Phoenix; sisters, Florence Brown, Stowe, Ohio, Mona Jane Milne, Toledo, Ellamae Dodds, Champaign, Ill.; brothers, James, Toledo, and Neal, Sun City Center, Fla. A sister, Nancy, and a brother, Holmer, preceded him in death.
Orville Petersen
Orville H. Petersen, 86, of Rock Island, died Monday, Jan 15, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m Thursday with services at 10:30 a.m. Friday and additional visitation 9:30 a.m. to service time at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island, where further arrangements are pending.
Eugene Ramser
Services for Eugene H. Ramser, 76, of Rock Island, are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Broadway Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. Burial is in National Cemtery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Elks Crippled Children's Fund.
He died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
He was born Oct. 11, 1924, in Rock Island, the son of Jacob and Ethel Ash Ramser. He received his education at Augustana College. He married
Margery Ann Hauck Aug. 12, 1949, in Galesburg. She died Jan. 16, 1984.
He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, serving in central Europe.
He was a custodian at Denkmann Grade School, Rock Island, for 10 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to that he was a traveling salesman with Radio Trade Supply, Davenport, also was with Zayre and Wards.
He was a past exhalted ruler of Rock Island Elks Lodge 980 where he also was the secretary for 20 years. He was a member of Friends Circle and VFW, both of Moline, Eagles, Rock Island, and TPA. He enjoyed gardening, baking and working with stained glass.
He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Marc and Doretta Ramser and Richard L. and Elva Ramser, all of Rock Island; grandchildren, Elke, John and Clark Ramser; and a sister, Virginia, in Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Eugene in 1979; and a brother, Jacob.
Billie Wade
Billie H. Wade, 68, Rock Island, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island.
At his request, his body was cremated and there will be no services or visitation. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Quad Cities Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
Mr. Wade was born Oct. 9, 1932, in Detroit, Ill., the son of Roy and Margaret Evans Wade. He married
Diane Hopkins April 21, 1975, in Rock Island.
He worked as a painter for different painting contractors in the Quad-Cities area before retiring. He also worked as a bartender in the Rock Island area for several years.
He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Diane; son and daughter-in-law, William and Angie Rose, Roxanna, Ill.; two grandchildren; brother, Jimmie Wade, Winchester, Ill.; many aunts, uncles and a niece, all of the Winchester area and many friends in the Quad-Cities area. He was preceded in death by his parents.
John Lockhart
John T. Lockhart, 48, of Valrico, Fla., formerly of East Moline, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at home after a brief illness.
He was a registered nurse at IHS, Crystal Springs, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Lockhart, Valrico; his parents, Joseph ``Ted" and Theo Lockhart, Apollo Beach, Fla., formerly of East Moline; and two sisters, Andrea Goss, East Moline, and Christine Burkhamer, Burlington.
Lawrence Talbott
Lawrence L. Talbott, Milan, died Jan. 15, 2001, at his home.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Turnbull Funeral Home, Oquawka, Ill. Burial is in Oquawka cemetery . The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth.
He was born Oct. 25, 1932, in rural Kirkwood, Ill., to Raymond and Elizabeth Talbott. In 1958 he married
Julia Parsons in Oquawka.
Surviving are his wife; daughters, Marlene Stumphy, Little York, Ill. and Cindy Johnson, rural Little York; sons, Larry, Silvis, James, Monmouth, Brad and Rodney, Columbus, Ga., Steve, Sulphur, La., Patrick, Rock Island, and Leonard, Milan; 26 grandchildren; nine great-granchildren; brothers, John, Smithshire, Ill., and Harold, Monmouth; nieces, nephews and cousins.
