Glenn A. Giebel, 77, North Las Vegas, Nev., died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Odyssey Health Care Inc.

Arrangements are being handled by Affordable Cremation & Burial Service, Las Vegas. Donations may be made to Odyssey Health Care Hospice of Las Vegas.

He was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Geneseo.

He was an electrician retiring from the railroad. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include a brother, Roy H. Giebel, Geneseo; a sister, Mabel Carlson, Geneseo; several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and -nephews.

Dorothy Brants-Gollnitz
Services for Dorothy Brants-Gollnitz, 76, Hooppole, are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gardner-Gibson & Son, Prophetstown. Burial is in Mineral cemetery . Visitation is 6 to 8 tonight.

She died Jan. 14, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

She was born in Mineral to Andrew Jackson and Florence Anderson Morgan. She married Harold Brants. He died in 1958. She later married Leroy Gollnitz.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Dianna Casey, Albany, and Lynn Blackert and Tonya VandeVoorde, Prophetstown; sons, Harold and Ted Brants, both of Hooppole, and Michael Gollnitz, Kewanee; stepdaughters, Nancy Brizzolara and Dixie Korch, both of Davenport; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Culler, and brother, Willard Morgan, both of Kewanee.

Joe Harroun
Joe E. Harroun, 85, Aledo, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Mercer County Hospital in Aledo.

Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Reynolds cemetery , with the Rev. Michael Kincaid of First Baptist Church, Aledo, officiating.

Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. today at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo, where a Masonic service will be conducted by Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge 679 at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to First Baptist Church, Aledo, or Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge 679.

He was born Nov. 22, 1915, in Millersburg, Ill., a son of Joseph and Edna Keck Harroun. He attended Millersburg and Aledo schools. He married Darlene Veeder Jan. 1, 1935. She died in 1985. He then married Elsie Gobble Jan. 17, 1986, in Parker, Ariz.

He farmed for many years north of Aledo and in northeast Iowa. He owned and operated the Mobil service station in Aledo and later operated a fishing and hunting lodge in Baudette, Minn., retiring in 1980.

He was a 50-year member of Buffalo Prairie Masonic Lodge 679, was a member of First Baptist Church, Aledo, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Jim Bogart, Warsaw, Mo.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe C. and Janet Harroun and Larry and Sarah Harroun, all of Reynolds, and Sammy Harroun, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Ila Dale, Aledo; two stepsons, Gene and Sue Gobble, Cary, N.C., and H. Cork and Dollie Gobble, New Port Richey, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Caroline Jacobs, East Moline. His parents, a son, David, a sister and two brothers preceded him in death.

Clarence `Casey' Jones
Clarence E. ``Casey" Jones, 82, of 5626 Luther Road, Tampico, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling.

Private services are today at Garland Funeral Home, Tampico. Burial is in Tampico Memorial cemetery .

Mr. Jones was born March 31, 1918, in Tampico to Elmer and Clara Satterfield Jones. He married Valine Stutzke Aug. 22, 1941, in Sterling.

He farmed in the Rock Falls and Tampico area.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Linda Martin, Sterling, Judy Spencer, Rock Falls, and Alice Vetter, Tampico; son, Paul, Freeport, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two granddaughters.

Willis Shaw
Willis Gerald Shaw, 61, of 1800 N. Shaw-Schisler Road, Astoria, Ill., died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, Ill.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home, Astoria. Burial is in Astoria cemetery .

Visitation is 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund.

Willis was born Aug. 16, 1939, to Willis ``Pat" and Marlyn (Hulvey) Shaw.

He was a mechanic and a heavy-equipment operator. He was a member of Local 537, Operating Engineers, Rock Island, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Macomb.

Survivors (and spouses) include children, Marty (Michelle) Shaw, Daniel Shaw and Misty Dawn Shaw, all of Astoria; a grandson, J.R. Shaw; his father, Willis (Dorothy) Shaw, Astoria; a brother, Robert ``Artic" (Bonnie) Shaw, Davenport; and a sister, Shirley (Duane) Richards, Browning, Ill. He was preceded in death by two sons, Willis and Shawn; his mother; and a sister, Betty Thompson.

Cecelia Smith
Cecelia M. Smith, 58, Kewanee, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Methodist Hospital, Peoria.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Kewanee. Burial is in Mount Olivet cemetery , Kewanee. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. rosary. Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born in Galesburg to Louis and Josephine Cervantez. She married James Smith in 1975.

Surviving are her husband; sons, William Booker, Willisville, Ill., and James Jr., Tampico; daughters, Jacquieline Klein, Kewanee, Loria Silva, Iowa, Linda O'Neal, Portales, N.M., and Kim Shelley, Montgomery, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; brothers Sam and Louis, Kewanee; and sisters Helen Dominquez, Kewanee, and Delores Sosa, Galesburg.

James Stanley
James E. Stanley, 68, of Aledo died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Memorial services are 7 p.m. Thursday at Aledo United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Crede officiating. His body was cremated, and private burial will be in Peniel cemetery .

Friends may greet the family from 5:30 p.m. to service time Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society. Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Sept. 21, 1932, in Oneida, Ill., a son of Frank and Flora Weltzheimer Stanley. He graduated from Joy High School. He married Ardele Retherford June 21, 1952, in Joy Methodist Church. She died Oct. 26, 1999.

He was employed as a gas serviceman for Illinois Power Co. for 41 years, retiring in 1995.

He attended Aledo United Methodist Church, was a lifetime member of the Mercer County Historical Society, and enjoyed fishing, playing cards, reading, gardening, and being with his family.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Stigers and her fiance, Mitch Daugneault, Rock Island, and Janean and Bradly Ottoson, Little York, Ill.; two sons, David, of Galesburg, and Mark, of Aledo; three grandchildren, Scott Stigers, Rock Island, Jared and his wife, Amanda Stanley, Abilene, Texas, and Jennifer Stanley, Reynolds; sisters, Betty Forrest, Kent, Wash., and Connie Dunlap, Cahokia, Ill.; brothers, Gerald and Larry of Oquawka, Ill., and Tom, of Fort Pierce, Fla.; and a special friend, Joan Wooddell, Aledo. His parents, wife, and a brother, John, preceded him in death.

Leonard VanWassenhove
Leonard R. VanWassenhove, 65, Kewanee, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at his home.

Services are 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kewanee. Burial is in Mount Olivet cemetery , Kewanee. Visitation is 6-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rux, Kewanee, with an 8:30 p.m. rosary.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; son, Mark, Phoenix, Ariz; daughter, Lynn Smierciak, Danbury, Conn.; mother, Anna, Toulon, Ill.; five grandchildren; brothers, including his twin, Lawrence, Chattanooga, Tenn., Dennis, Tulsa, Okla., and Bernard, Mitchell, S.D.; four nieces, and three nephews.

Earl Bembenek
Earl B. Bembenek, 95, Davenport, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Manorcare, Davenport.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park cemetery .

Visitation will be noon to service time Wednesday at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.

Earl was born Sept. 18, 1905, in Rosebud, Pa., to Gottlieb and Katharina Bembenek. He married Lilyan Cherney in 1931 in Guthrie Center, Iowa. She died in 1991.

He retired from Red Jacket Manufacturing in 1970 after 25 years as a machinist.

Survivors include his daughter, Betty Dettman, Davenport, and nieces and nephews.

Marvin Haertel
Marvin Haertel, 92, Davenport, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at Bettendorf Health Care Center.

Arrangements are pending at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport.

Manuel Hernandez, Matteo Hernandez
Manuel and Matteo Hernandez, newborn infant sons of Manuel and Victoria Hernandez, Davenport, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary cemetery , Rock Island. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, is handling arrangements.

Survivors include their parents; grandparents, Becky Martin Rock, Davenport, Steve Rock, Rock Island, and Antonia and Nicholas Hernandez, Mexico; great-grandparents, Bev Rock and Alice Ann Martin, both of Rock Island; an aunt, Tricia; uncles, A.J. Rock and Mitchel Jenkins; and several great-aunts and great-uncles.

William Horlas
Services for William E. Horlas, 79, Davenport, are 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial is in Memorial Park cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. to service time Saturday.

He died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

He was born Aug. 16, 1921, in Davenport. He married Clara Petersen July 2, 1939. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife; children, Fredrich Horlas, Helen Babb and Michael Horlas, all of Davenport, and Augusta Hill, Santa Fe, N.M.; 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

James Otis
Services for James W. Otis, 78, Bettendorf, are 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Grace Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the church. Weerts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Otis died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at the Iowa Masonic Nursing Home-Masonic Village, Bettendorf.

He was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Moline, the son of Gerald and Anna Otis. He married Shirley Thorngren Feb. 24, 1944.

He was owner and CEO of Jim Otis & Associates Inc. for 30 years, retiring in 1998.

Survivors (and spouses) are his wife; daughter, Karen (Shawn) McGill, Atkinson; sons, Michael (Donna) Otis, Davenport, and Tom (Carlene) Otis, Carroll, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Margaret `Midge' Strasser
Services for Margaret ``Midge" P. Strasser, 92, Bettendorf, are 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Iowa Masonic Nursing Facility Chapel, Bettendorf. Mrs. Strasser donated her body for research to the University of Iowa School of Medicine. Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.

She died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Iowa Masonic Nursing Facility.

Margaret Copp was born March 17, 1908, in Davenport. She married Arno Strasser Sept. 17, 1927, in Rock Island. He died in 1985.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Leota DeBrobander
Leota W. DeBrobander, 83, Rock Island, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Rosamond Dowden
Graveside services for Rosamond E. Dowden, Rock Island, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. today at Carbon Cliff cemetery , have been canceled.

Arrangements are pending at Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

Florence Martin
Florence E. Martin, of River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at the center.

Arrangements are pending at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Birdge `Bud' Babcock
Birdge ``Bud" J. Babcock, 78, Moline, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, where he was a member. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 1303 and American Legion Post 569/200.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Seton School in Moline.

Birdge was born July 8, 1922, in Rush City, Minn., to Birdge and Julia Rafferty Babcock. He married Clarice E. Van Wychen Sept. 26, 1944, in Faribault, Minn.

Mr. Babcock was employed for 21 years with Priester Construction Co., Davenport, retiring in 1981 as carpenter foreman.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Father Bader Assembly, Rock Island, and a member of Carpenters Union Local 4.
