Ella Rosendahl

Ella L. Rosendahl, 96, of Klemme, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Concord Care Center in Garner.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at the Peace Reformed Church in rural Garner with the Rev. Jeff DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.

Gertrud Tuchel

Gertrud Marie Tuchel, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness.

Born June 21, 1913, in Stargard, Germany, she was the daughter of Wilhelm and Berta Beyer. She married Johannes K. Tuchel on March 28, 1935. He died Dec. 12, 1994.
Mrs. Tuchel was a world traveler and especially enjoyed winters in Mexico. She was devoted to her family and loved gardening.

Survivors include two sons, Gunter and Fritz, both of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Holly Williamson of Burlington; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a family member, Christel Johnson of Dallas.

The private funeral for Mrs. Truchel was June 29 at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Kay Slocum officiating.

Dorson Trueblood

Dorson Harold Trueblood, 94, of rural Salem, died at 8:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at University Hospitals in Iowa City, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born Sept. 8, 1907, in Henry County, he was the son of Alvin E. and Minnie M. Meece Trueblood. He married Wanda Pearl Zickefoose on Feb. 3, 1934, in Mount Pleasant. She died Oct. 14, 1978.
Mr. Trueblood was a veteran of the Naval Reserve. He moved to the farm in 1934, and farmed most of his life. He also worked on the railroad and at Iowa Ordnance Plant in Middletown and delivered for Kennedy Dairy.

He attended Lincoln Street Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, David D. Trueblood of Killen, Ala., Jon H. Trueblood of Augusta, Ga., and Roger W. Trueblood of Republic, Mo.; one sister, LaVera Foster of Eddyville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, three brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Trueblood will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Street Baptist Church, with Pastor Ken Barlow Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Lincoln Street Baptist Church Benevolent Fund.

Mary Fowler

Mary Jeannette Fowler, 80, of Montrose Health Center in Montrose, died at 8:35 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at the health center.

Born Sept. 14, 1921, in Vincennes, she was the daughter of John and Rose Rooney Case. She married Louis W. Fowler on June 18, 1941.
Mrs. Fowler worked at Horner Box in Keokuk for many years.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Montrose, the Altar & Rosary Society, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, South Side Boat Club and the PTA. She loved to quilt and also enjoyed gardening, polka music and bringing cocoa to children while sledding.

Survivors include one daughter, Sally Jo Sandquist of Montrose; three grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son and two sisters.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today at King-Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

The memorial Mass for Mrs. Fowler will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gerald Hoenig officiating. Burial will be in Montrose Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Montrose Fire & Rescue and the Montrose Alumni Association. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.

Myrtle Carpenter

Myrtle B. Carpenter, 78, of Mount Pleasant, died at 4:50 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Park Place Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Sept. 9, 1922, near Lowell, she was the daughter of Robert Ward and Edith Jennings Carpenter. She married Homer Aaron Carpenter on June 9, 1945, in San Francisco. He died July 12, 1993.
Mrs. Carpenter worked in several restaurants in Mount Pleasant for a number of years and then worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. For 20 years, she worked at the Mental Health Institute in Mount Pleasant and then became a nurse's aide at St. Joseph's Hospital in Joliet, Ill. She remained there for 12 years years before moving to the Illinois State Hospital in Tinley Park, where she worked as a psychiatric aide until her retirement in 1986.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught the Pioneers Club, and the Rebecca Women's Club. For 42 years, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Survivors include four brothers, Ward Bonser of Vacaville, Calif., Robert Bonser of Fairfield, Calif., Jerry Bonser of Mount Pleasant and Joe Bonser of Lake Park, Ga.; five sisters, Wanda Beaber of Mount Pleasant, Helen Kauffman of Dundee, Ill., Patti Wiles of Austin, Texas, Judy Inglebright of Fairfield, Calif., and Edee Bruggemeyer of Mount Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral for Mrs. Carpenter will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. David Plooster officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Pioneer Club of her church and Southeast Iowa Crossroads Hospice.

Margaret Rinker

Margaret Jean Rinker, 96, of Dallas died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, in Dallas.

Born Oct. 4, 1908, in Marinette, Wis., she was the daughter of Herman and Jennie Hassell. On Aug. 12, 1933, she married Richard J. Rinker. He died in 1988.

Mrs. Rinker taught high school English and French in Wild Rose, Wis.

She attended Marinette High School and was a graduate of Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis. She and her husband moved from Milwaukee to Burlington in 1934, and she had lived in Dallas since 1999. She was involved in many civic and community activities over the years. She was a member of Civic Music, Burlington Golf Club, Questors, the Art Guild and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She was a volunteer at the Apple Trees Museum and a member of the Historical Society. She was a 70–year member of First Congregational Church in Burlington.

Survivors include one daughter, Jean Fuller of Dallas; one son, R. James Rinker of Hanover, Pa.; five grandchildren; and six great–grandchildren.

A memorial service and burial for Mrs. Rinker will be in Burlington at a later date.

A memorial has been established for First Congregational Church.

John Fenton

John (Bill) Fenton, 91, of Mount Pleasant died at 6:55 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.

Born Jan. 29, 1914, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of William Joseph and Mabel Ruth Young Fenton. On Oct. 28, 1939, he married Juanita July. She died in July 1980. On April 17, 1982, he married Verda Trabert Peterson.

Mr. Fenton worked in production at General Electric in Burlington for many years and was a shoe salesman until retiring.

He was a 1934 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 8. He was a Navy veteran, serving as a corpsman. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; one son, John "Jack" Fenton of Apple Valley, Minn.; one stepson, Gary Peterson of Blue Grass; one stepdaughter, Diane Caldwell of Mount Pleasant; seven grandchildren; and 12 great–grandchildren.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, with a 6 p.m. Masonic service conducted by Lodge No. 8 and the family receiving friends to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Fenton will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Edward Peterson officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Memorials have been established for First United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Helen Knuth

Helen Louise Knuth, 89, formerly of the Ormande area, near Monmouth, Ill., died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Hospice of West Palm Beach in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Born Jan. 8, 1912, in Kirkwood, Ill., she was the daughter of Samuel Elory and Lula Field Dutton Steele. On April 4, 1932, she married John J. Knuth in Monmouth. He died Jan. 8, 1984.
Mrs. Knuth was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church in West Palm Beach. She attended school in Kirkwood.

Survivors include one son, Richard L. Knuth of West Palm Beach; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Visitation will be Wednesday and Thursday at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. There will be no family visitation.

The graveside service for Mrs. Knuth will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Cemetery in Monmouth, with the Rev. Ron Enderlin officiating.

A memorial has been established for Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth.

Herbert Parrish Sr.

Herbert Carl Parrish Sr., 63, of Burlington, died at 6:25 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City.

Born May 6, 1938, in Ameory, Miss., he was the son of Jake and Desi Skelton Parrish. On April 9, 1960, he married Mary Hoffeditz. In 1973, he married Jenny Palmer.
Mr. Parrish was a self-employed roofer.

He was stationed in Germany when in the Army. He enjoyed pool, the gambling boat, cars and basketball.

Survivors include five daughters, Mary Conn of West Burlington, Tami Parrish and Patricia Leatherwood, both of Burlington, Kellie Downing of Edmond, Okla., and Misty Parrish of Hot Springs, Ark.; one son, Michael Parrish of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; and two sisters, Faye Brown of Ameory and Kay Huggert of Rock Island, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, one son and one granddaughter.

Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the time of service.

The funeral for Mr. Parrish will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. David Mixon officiating. A private family burial with military rites conducted by VFW Posts 10102, 9162 and American Legion Post 52 will be at a later date.

A memorial has been established for Southeastern Community College's basketball fund.

Herman Mathews

Herman Dwight Mathews, 93, formerly of Winfield, died at 12:55 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Born May 31, 1908, northwest of Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Glen Adolpheous and Jessie Bell Garrels Mathews. He married Laura Amelia Lee on Feb. 19, 1930, in Burlington. She died Sept. 16, 1998.
Mr. Mathews was a graduate of Mount Union School. He worked as a crew leader in the "hot" yard at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown during World War II. He then worked at a John Deere dealership in Winfield before retiring. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Arizona, where they were apartment complex managers.

He was a member of the Church of the Open Bible in Winfield, where he lived from 1948 to 1972. He lived in Phoenix, from 1972 to 1992, when he and his wife returned to Iowa and lived in rural Woodburn.

Survivors include seven sons, Harold Mathews of Lodi, Calif., Roy Mathews of Moulton, Ala., Keith Mathews of Des Moines, Ralph and David Mathews, both of Mount Pleasant, Leslie Mathews of Topeka, Kan., and Raymond Mathews of Killeen, Texas; one daughter, Helen Rush of Woodburn; 25 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Albert and Elmer Mathews, both of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Velma Williams of Washington; nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and two sisters.

Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Mathews will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donald Bates officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.

A memorial has been established for the Rural Home Health Aides and Care division of Lucas County Public Health Department.
