Virgil Smtih, 94, of Knoxville, Ill., died Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Knoxville.

Graveside services are 11 a.m. Monday at Knoxville cemetery . Visitation is 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville.

He was born Aug. 1, 1908, in Turon, Kan., to William and Cora Markham Smith. He married Dorothy Meyer Feb. 1, 1936.

Surviving are his wife; daughter, Virginia Boughton, Galesburg; sons, Howard, Plano, Texas, William, Rock Island, and Thomas, Chicago; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Merle, Tulsa, Okla.; sisters, Irene Baird, Loveland, Colo., and Maxine Hippen, Hutchison, Kan. His parents; son, Jack; four brothers; and six sisters preceded him in death .

Nathan Sierra

Services for Nathan A. 'Nate' Sierra, 25, of Blue Grass, Iowa, are 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Burial is in Mount Calvary cemetery , Davenport.

Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, with a 5 p.m. prayer service.

Nate died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident near Buffalo, Iowa.

He was born May 12, 1977, in Davenport to Hugo and Juanita DeAnda Sierra.

Surviving are his parents; brother, Jesse Sierra, Neenah, Wis.; and grandfather, Ildefonso Sierra, Davenport.

Connel `Ha Ha' Hearn
Connel 'Ha Ha' Hearn, 57, of Rock Island, died Nov. 24, 2002, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Memorial services are 4 p.m. Sunday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, Rock Island. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Saturday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.

Connel was born Dec. 31, 1944, in Collierville, Tenn., the son of Willie and Mattie Dean Hearn. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, Rock Island. Ha Ha loved to make people laugh.

Ha Ha is survived by his wife, Melva Hearn, Rock Island; daughters, Melissa Daggett, Rock Island, and Cynthia Kurt, Davenport; four grandchildren; sisters (and spouses), Mattie Hearn, Memphis, Tenn., Betty (Ed) Gray, Virginia, Lois and Vickie Hearn, both of Collierville; twin brother, Evell (Eva) Hearn, Rock Island; brother, Walter Hearn, Rock Island, Dean Lee (Linda) Hearn, Memphis; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and a sister.

Cheryl Lynne Ivory
Cheryl Lynne Ivory, 40, of Homer, La., formerly of Rock Island, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002.

Services and burial were in Homer.

She was born Nov. 16, 1962, in Rock Island, the daughter of Ethel M. Wilson and Oliver Ivory Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Travis, Ruston, La., Trent and Tione, both of Homer; daughter, J'Keila Curry; grandson, JaVonte Howard, Homer; mother, Ethel Wilson, Homer; father, Oliver Ivory Sr., Davenport; brothers, Napoleon Jackson, Bossier City, La., John Ivory, Homer, Marc Ivory, Davenport, Oliver Ivory Jr. and Colbert Dixon, both of Moline, and Chucky Ivory, Dayton, Ohio; sisters, Gwen Willis and Letitia Ivory, both of Las Vegas, Nev., Ann Ivory, Shirley Lindsey, Brenda Bryant and Roseland Morris, all of Dayton, Michelle and Rachel Ivory, both of Davenport. An infant son, Brent Ivory, preceded her in death.

John `JC' Teague
John 'JC' Teague, 66, of Rock Island, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Gaines Chapel AME Church, East Moline, where he was a member. The Rev. Samuel Bradford will officiate. Visitation is 11 a.m to service time at the church. Cremation will follow services. Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Paris, Tenn., to Abron and Elrita Teague. He married Lynn Winkelman April 10, 1994.

He was a welder and industrial truck operator at the combine manufacturing division of John Deere Harvester Works from September 1965 to October 1995, retiring after 30 years. After retirement, he worked at Lohse Automotive and O'Reilly's part-time.

He was a member of Union Local 865 and motorcycle clubs including Magnificent 7, Explosive 10 and Eagle Club.

He enjoyed camping and mechanical work with cars.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Lynn; daughters, Mona Jackson, Paris, Regina Turner, Rock Island, Ann (Mike) Sydnor, North Carolina; sons, John 'Bo' James, Michael (Nicki), both of Rock Island, Anthony (Gloria) Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jason, Leon (Lisa), Davenport, and Rick McKee, Milwaukee, Wis.; 22 grandchildren; mother, Elrita Teague, East Moline; sister, Inez Teague-Chapman, East Moline; brothers, Fred and Earl (Pam), both of Moline, and Cornell, Davenport; uncle, Crotis Teague, East Moline; aunts, Ida Kendall, Baltimore, Md., and Mary Guthrie, Milwaukee; grandmother, Hattie Mae Puckett, Milwaukee; a host of nieces, nephews, great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; special son, Medgar Harris; and a host of special friends, who were many, motorcycle members and co-workers.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother.

Virginia Vogt
Virginia R. Vogt, 80, of Rock Island, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Heartland Health Care Center, Alzheimer's Unit, Moline.

A visitation and gathering will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. There will be no service. Her body will be cremated at a later date. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Mississippi Valley Chapter.

Mrs. Vogt was born June 2, 1922, in Moline, to Morris and Agnes Schillinger Cook. She married Clifford Vogt April 7, 1946, in Rock Island.

Along with being a homemaker, she was an avid bridge player and was a golfer with the Indian Bluff Ladies League. She was a 50-year member of the Agnes T. Hurst Circle of King's Daughters.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Clifford; a daughter, Marilyn Schumaker, Stockton, Iowa; sons, Jeffrey Vogt, Bettendorf, Gary Vogt, Painted Post, N.Y., and Kevin Vogt, Rock Island; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Cora and a brother, Morris.

Leonard Brown
Leonard D. Brown, 78, of 700 North Shore Dr., Moline, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Martha Fleck
Martha M. Fleck, 75, of 3209 15th St. C., Moline, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at her home.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, with visitation 10 a.m. to service time. Interment will be Monday in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Martha M. Hayden was born April 13, 1927, in Rock Island, the daughter of John and Audrey Davis Hayden. She married Raymond B. Fleck on Nov. 25, 1946, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death Feb. 17, 2002.

She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and making quilts. She dearly loved her grandchildren.

Survivors (and spouses) include a daughter, Linda (Robert) Patzer, McKinney, Texas; a son, Michael (Donna) Fleck, East Moline; four grandchildren; sisters, Betty Hall, Tustin, Calif., Joe Ann Fite, Viola, and Pat Frye, Yorba Linda, Calif.; and a brother, Robert Hayden, Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Gladys Kempf
Gladys I. Kempf, 94, of Moline, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at her home.

Arrangements pending at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Marjory Peterson
Marjory Edna Peterson, 87, of Bonita Springs, Fla., formerly of Moline, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, in Florida.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to service time at the funeral home, where further arrangements are pending.

Bernadine `Bernie' Watts
Bernadine K. 'Bernie' Watts, 78, of Moline, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at her home.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where

Wanda Zelnio
Wanda R. Zelnio, 79, of Moline, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at her home.

Visitation is Friday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where further arrangements are pending.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley.

Olga Kelly
Olga Kelly, 97, Kewanee, died Nov. 25, 2002, in Kewanee.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Kewanee. Burial is in Mt. Olivet cemetery , Kewanee. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Rux, Kewanee.

She was born Aug. 20, 1905, in Kewanee, to Alfred and Josephine Stenwall. She married Thomas Kelly in 1927. He died in 1972.

Survivors (and spouses) are her daughters, Patricia (George) Krosse, Newport Beach, Calif., and Jane Kelly, Kewanee; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Ruth Clark, Creve Coeur, Ill.

Mary Luallen
Mary D. Luallen, 92, of Alpha, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Aledo Health and Rehab Center.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday at Alpha cemetery . Visitation is one hour prior to services Friday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home, Alpha. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association or Aledo Health and Rehab Center.

She was born Aug. 16, 1910, in Claremore, Okla., daughter of Jeff and Dice Ann Shelton Bowman. She married Clarence L. Luallen Sept. 14, 1943, in Waynesville, Mo.

Mary and her husband built and operated the Alpha Bowling Alley for 27 years, retiring in 1981. Prior to that, she drove a school bus for the Alwood School District and managed the former Standard Service Station in Alpha.

Surviving are husband and several brother and sister-in-laws.

Mary Millar
Mary Jean Millar, 83, of Appleton, Wis., died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Franciscan Care Center, Appleton.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m., Jan. 7, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth. A memorial has been established in Mary Jean's name to benefit the Adult Choir of Rolling Hills Community Church, Zellwood, FL 32798. Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Jean was born May 19, 1919, in Kirkwood, to Arthur J. and Sina O. Rezner Palmburg. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mary Jean enjoyed golf, bridge, sewing, and was a member of church choirs for over 60 years. She was a member of the P.O.E. and King's Daughters.

Survivors (and spouses) include her husband of 62 years, Dean; son, the Rev. James Dean (the Rev. Victoria Decker-Millar) Millar, Oak Park, Ill.; daughter, Marjorie M. (Dr. Robert E.) Young, Esq., Neenah, Wis.; grandchildren, Christopher Dean (Stephanie) Millar, Kara (Al) Gills, William Robert Millar, and Katherine (Dr. Andrew) Ziegert; and great-grandchildren, Heather and Hanna Millar, and Grady and Karly Gills. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Tinsman.

Elena Miron
Elena Miron, 86, of Kewanee, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, in Kewanee.

Services are 9 a.m. today at Holy Nativity Church, Chicago. Burial is in the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate Monastery, Grass Lakes, Mich. Rux, Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born May 15, 1916, in Holland, Mich.

Surviving are her daughter, Dr. Danca Luchici and other family members in Kewanee, Chicago, Arizona, Romania and Yugoslavia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; and a sister, Milica.

Everette Snodgrass
Everette E. Snodgrass, 81, Geneseo, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at his home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, Geneseo. The Rev. David Myers is officiating. Burial is in Oakwood cemetery , Geneseo, where military rites will be performed by the Geneseo American Legion. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Friday at Stackhouse-Moore, Geneseo. There will also be Masonic services at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Grace Church Building Fund or Geneseo School Facility Enhancement Foundation.

Everette Snodgrass was born May 13, 1921, in Dayton Corners, Ill., the son of Frank and Lydia Mae Clark Snodgrass. On May 13, 1942, he married Dorothy Berry in Kahoka, Mo. She died Dec. 24, 1997.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was chosen as 'honor man of his company.' Later, he worked for the George Evans Corporation and then he operated a truck company with Clyde Johnson in Geneseo. He then became the owner-operator of Everette Snodgrass Trucking and Asphalt Company in Geneseo until retiring in 1977.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where he had served on several committees. Mr. Snodgrass was also a member of Stewart Lodge 92 A.F. and A.M., Geneseo, the Moline Consistory and Shriners, Tucson, Ariz., the Geneseo American Legion, Post 350, Geneseo Moose Lodge 990 and the Geneseo Country Club. He enjoyed golfing and hunting.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Bill Gruber, Seattle, Wash.; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Lorrie Snodgrass, Geneseo; grandchildren, Eric Snodgrass, Atkinson, Beth and Drew Hallock, North Bend, Wash., Scott and Jessica Snodgrass, Twentynine Palms, Calif., Joe and Jill Snodgrass, Bettendorf, Mitch and Heather Gruber, San Diego, Calif., Sarah and Nigel Steere, Seattle, Wash., Jessica Gruber, Iksan, South Korea, Hilary and Ashley Snodgrass, Geneseo; seven great-grandchildren, Mark Snodgrass, Stuart Hallock, Hayli Hallock, Gabriel Snodgrass, Jacob Snodgrass, Max Gruber, and Ian Snodgrass; sister, Virginia Franks, Geneseo; and a special family member, Julie. He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Jeffrey; brothers, Wilbur and Short; and a daughter-in-law, Janis.

Helen Grau, 81, of Davenport, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Davenport.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, where further arrangements are pending.
