Klara Speidel, 88, of Morrison died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Morrison. Burial is in Lower York cemetery , Thomson, Ill. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday.

She was born March 18, 1914, in Tolowa, Romania, to Johann and Katherine Nunweiler. She married Ernest Ott in Romania. He died. She married Leopold Speidel Aug. 19, 1950. He died.

Survivors (and spouses) are her daughters, Ervine (Joseph) Volltrauer, Mountain Home, Ark., Monika (Michael) Knapp, Morrison, and Erika (Herman) Volltrauer, Englishtown, N.J.; sons, Josef (Hannelorie) Ott, Flensburg, Germany, and Gerhart (Herta) Ott, Hanover Park, Ill.; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law.

Tad Tucker
Tad A. Tucker, 17, of Port Byron died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, as the result of an accident.

Arrangements are pending at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron.

David Blair
David R. 'Bob' Blair, 82, Davenport, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Iowa Masonic Home, Bettendorf.

The body will be cremated. Private family services are in Skokie, Ill. Runge Mortuary, Davenport, handled local arrangements.

He was born July 21, 1920, in Chicago. He married Janet Cole June 15, 1946, in Evanston, Ill.

He served as an officer in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He was an administrative engineer for J.I. Case, retiring in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; son, Arthur E. Blair, Milwaukee, Wis.; and daughter, Linda Blair Tevis, Naperville, Ill.

Don Clark
Don Clark, 71, Davenport, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport.

Edward Daily
Edward P. Daily, 34, Davenport, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at his home.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Runge, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday.

He was born April 14, 1968, to Elmer and Nola Matthews Daily. He married Mary Sales Oct. 3, 1992.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Megan, at home; sisters, Terry Grobstick, Davenport, Mary Pewe, Davenport, Veronica Bales, Walcott, Iowa, and Jennifer Garnica, Davenport; brother, Richard Daily, Becker, Minn.; and parents, Davenport.

John Kish
Services for John W. Kish, 58, of East Moline, formerly of Davenport, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park cemetery .

Visitation is noon to service time Thursday. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Mr. Kish died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.

Mr. Kish was born Dec. 18, 1943, in Hannibal, Mo., the son of John A. and Ruth E. Sheldon Kish. He graduated from Rock Island High School. John married Betty York in 1965 in Moline.

He was self-employed.

John loved sports. He made friends no matter where he went. He was a former scout for the Cleveland Indians baseball organization.

Survivors include his daughters, Renee and Tracy Kish, both of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Penny and Larry Flynn, Rock Island, Neva King, East Moline, Carol and Ed Crowell, Torrance, Calif., Frances Brown, Rock Island, and Elly and Dick Allison, Rock Island; many special nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Larry and Louise Lingafelter, Rock Island.

Mabel Stow
Mabel R. Stow, 100, Lacon, Ill., formerly of Bettendorf, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at St. Joseph Nursing Home, Lacon.

Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park cemetery .

Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time Thursday.

She was born Oct. 24, 1902, to Carl and Mary Lofgren Bloomberg. She married Orville G. Stow Aug. 10, 1929, in Mediapolis, Iowa. He died March 20, 1997.

Surviving are children, Mary McAlearney, Hanna City, Ill., and Richard, Buhler, Kan.; two grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

Florence Tams
Florence Louise Tams, 88, Bettendorf, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at Iowa Masonic Nursing Home, Bettendorf.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport.

James Appelquist
James M. 'Jim' Appelquist, 64, of Rock Island, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at Trinity West, Rock Island.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Inurnment is at a later date. Memorials to the family.

He was born Dec. 30, 1937, in Rock Island to Edgar and Irene Johnson Appelquist.

Surviving are his children, Steve Appelquist, Viola, Ed Appelquist, Moline, Chris Appelquist, Cincinnati, Ohio, Marlo Appelquist, Hanover Park, Ill., and Jennifer Shewell, Rock Island; stepdaughter, Dede Appelquist, Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and brothers, Gary Appelquist and Tom Appelquist, both of Rock Island, and Dave Appelquist, Coyne Center. He was preceded in death by his parents and half-brother, Rodney.

Charles Bowen
Charles E. Bowen, 60, of Rock Island, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Edith Fatland
Edith V. Fatland, 78, of Rock Island, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Loretta Lease
Loretta G. Lease, 102, of Rock Island, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Further arrangements are pending.

Larry Werner
On Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, Larry Werner, 59, while holding his wife's hand, slipped away silently to his glorious future in heaven at his home in Rock Island.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, where he was a member. Entombment will be at Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Larry was born Aug. 12, 1943, in Moline, son of John and Jeanne Fitzsimmons Versluis. On Sept. 9, 1993, he entered into marriage with Mary Jo Baker in Rock Island.

He worked for Eagle Food Stores as an over-the-road semi driver for 30 years, last working Sept. 13, 2002.

He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 371. Larry enjoyed fishing and camping.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo; daughter, Shelley Ketner and her husband, Jeff, Silvis; sons, Michael Werner, Port Byron, and Matt Werner, East Moline; stepchildren, Lance Luther II, Moline, Duane Baker II, Silvis, Tiffany Trujano, East Moline, Jason Baker, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Bryan Baker, East Moline; grandchildren, Caitlin, Donovan, Zachary, Hope, Jessica, Craig, Dariana, Jarib, Jasmine, Alexis, Ashley, Jay Jr., Tyler, Sydney and J.D.; brothers and spouses, Jim and Lisa Werner, East Moline, and Dustin and Amy Werner, Woodhull; sister and her spouse, Laura and Terry Taylor, Geneseo; and several nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents.

Edna Behrens
Edna E. Behrens, 89, of Moline, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline.

John Thornhill
John Leonard Thornhill Sr., 64, of Vallonia, Ind., died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, Ky.

Services are 11 a.m. today at Hardy-Close Funeral Home, Shepherdsville, Ky., with Brother Dexter Perkins and Brother Greg Underwood officiating. Burial is in Mount Eden cemetery .

He was a retired foreman for Carver's Lumber Co., former member of Moline School Board and member of Shepherdsville Gospel Chapel Church.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Evans Henry Thornhill; son, John Thornhill Jr.; daughter, Barbara Thornhill, Moline; stepdaughters, Barbara Crandill and Sandra Wood and Debbie Hogan, both of Moline; stepson, Terry Henry; sister, Darlene Burton; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Patrick Earnest
Patrick Earnest, 36, of Houma, La., formerly of Moline, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002.

Samart Funeral Home, Houma, handled arrangements. Donations may be made to Haven Inc., Houma.

He was born Dec. 5, 1965.

He was a computer tech for Edison Chouest Offshore.

Survivors include his parents, Janice and Ed Earnest; brothers, David Staub and Samuel Staub, both of Peoria, Ill.; and sisters, Debra Earney and Madora Staub, both of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his biological father, Maurice Staub; and brother, Gary Staub.

Lyle Monson
Lyle D. Monson, 83, of Moline, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, while walking near his home.

Arrangements are pending at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline.

Survivors include his wife, Mercedes.

Bernard Sundeen
Bernard 'Bernie' R. Sundeen, 51, of rural DeWitt, Iowa, formerly of Moline, died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at home.

A funeral liturgy is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, Iowa, with the Rev. Father H. Robert Harness officiating. Interment is in Calvary cemetery , Grand Mound. Friends may call at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 3 to 7 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Pallbearers will be Kevin DeRoo, Al DeWitte, Dave Dineen, Bill Gruby, Ken Ferguson, Charlie Johannes, Greg Kwinski, Jim Moran and Dan Wood. A memorial fund has been established.

Bernard Rene Sundeen was one of three sons born May 28, 1951 in Moline to Henry Andre Sundreen Sr. and Eugenie Helene Renalot Sundeen. He was a 1969 graduate of Alleman High School, Rock Island. Bernie received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from St. Ambrose University and had completed work toward a master's degree from Sangamon State University, Springfield, Ill. He married the former Mary Kinney June 28, 1981, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline.

He was formerly employed by the Rock Island County Probation Department and Deere & Co. For the past 17 years, he worked as a quality assurance specialist at Rock Island Arsenal.

Bernie was a member of Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, where he was active on the parish council. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society. Bernie was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He enjoyed reading and being with his family.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 21 years, Mary; his loving daughter, Aline Renee Sundeen, a student at the University of Iowa; a loving son, John David Sundeen, Woodbury, Minn.; his dear mother, Eugenie Sundeen, Moline; two brothers whom he loved dearly, Henry Andre Sundeen Jr., Moline, and John Pierre Sundeen and his wife, Clarice Diane Kinney-Sundeen, Rock Island; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Grace Kinney, Grand Mound; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister-in-law, Valarie Sundeen, in September of this year.
