Edna Fessenden, 79, of Muscatine, formerly of Moline and Rock Island, died Feb. 8, 2003, at Muscatine Care Center.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Nichols Chapel Hill, Muscatine. Burial is in Rock Island National cemetery . Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

She was born in Keithsburg. She married Maxalee Fessenden in 1952. She worked at DeRoo's Tavern, New Boston, and Ron-Art Aluminum, Rock Island.

Survivors are children, Ronald Schwartzkopf, Titusville, Fla., Franklin Coulter, Colorado Springs, Colo., Daniel, Aledo, Sharon Brown, Huntington Beach, Calif., Brenda Howard, Fruitland, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; siblings, George Heath, Keithsburg, Dona Curry, Illinois City, and Anita Cale, Davenport.

Helen Roberts
Helen M. Roberts, 88, of Davenport, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport.

Herman `Bill' Schuessler
Herman W. 'Bill' Schuessler, 86, of Bettendorf, formerly of Moline and St. Louis, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport.

Virginia Brown
Virginia L. Brown, 84, of Rock Island, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Services will be noon Wednesday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Chippiannock cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Memorials may be made to the family.

Virginia was born Sept. 17, 1918, in Atchison, Kan. She married Odee Brown. He died June 7, 1999.

Virginia was a housekeeper at the former Moline Lutheran Hospital for years. Prior to this, she did private housekeeping. She enjoyed cooking.

Virginia is survived by granddaughters, Dr. Cheryl L. France, Philadelphia, Pa., and Joanne France-Silas and Annette France, both of Rock Island; great-granddaughters, Adrienne France, whom Virginia raised, and Ashley and Katrina Quarterman, all of Rock Island, and Brianne Silas, Champaign, Ill.; great-grandsons, Jeremiah Jamison III, Rock Island, and Zachary Quarterman, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; great-great-granddaughter, Avyana Jamison, Rock Island; foster brother, Jake Vaughn, Denver, Colo.; stepdaughters, Ruth (Dupree) Logan and Karen, Cora Jean and Kaye, all of Minneapolis, Minn.; special niece, Kathy Overton, Rock Island; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, John A. France.

Nicolette Mays
Nicolette Mays, 35, of Rock Island, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline.

Wilma Fiagle
Wilma I. Fiagle, 89, of Moline, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Aspenwood Health Care Center, Silvis.

Arrangements are pending at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence.

Margaret Cutkomp Ostrand
Margaret L. Cutkomp Ostrand, 76, of Moline, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at her residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

Margaret was born Dec. 28, 1926, in Hannibal, Mo., daughter of Monte and Anna Mae Foster McCune. Margaret was raised by John and Patricia Foster. She married Donald S. Ostrand Nov. 25, 1962, in Silvis. He preceded her in death Jan. 12, 1994.

Margaret worked as a cashier for 27 years at Eagle Country Market. She also worked in concessions for Mississippi Valley Fairs and operated Grandma's Snack Shack at BMX Speedway, East Moline. Margaret enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening and cats.

Survivors (and spouses) include her daughters, Linda (Larry) Phillips, Rock Island, Debbie Coverdill, Hampton, and Pamela Ostrand, Moline; sons, Lonnie (Kathy) Cutkomp and Bill (Carol) Cutkomp, both of Moline, Dusty (Linda) Cutkomp, Milan, Donald (Bridget) Ostrand, California, and Jeff (Marilyn) Ostrand, Bettendorf; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and twins on the way; and sisters, Ethel Stenger, Rock Island, Kathy (Bill) Farber, Coal Valley, and Marilyn Foster, Clinton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Marie Depree and Rosemary Espinoza.

Kenneth Hoefflin
Services for Kenneth G. Hoefflin, 86, of East Moline, who wintered in Lake Placid, Fla., are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alleman High School, Rock Island, or Arrowhead Ranch, Coal Valley.

Mr. Hoefflin died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Kenny was born May 23, 1916, in Muscatine, Iowa, son of George and Estelle Hain Hoefflin. He married June Sackman Jan. 4, 1936, in Rock Island. She died Sept. 6, 1980. He married Arlene Vercautren Shell Aug. 10, 1985, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline.

Mr. Hoefflin was founder and sole owner of Kenny's Tire, East Moline, for more than 47 years, retiring in 1985. He was an honorary member of Short Hills Country Club, East Moline, for more than 50 years, a Paul Harris Fellow of East Moline Rotary and past board member of the Chamber of Commerce. As a businessman in East Moline, he was active in the East Moline Business Association. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and loved the Chicago Cubs and Bears.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene; daughter, Charline Darin, East Moline; son, Craig, Clinton, Iowa; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Lorraine Richards, Burbank, Calif.; and special niece, Delores Tansy, Napa, Calif.

Floyd Halbert
Floyd Halbert, 76, of Barstow, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at home.

Arrangements are pending at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline.

Nancy Long
Nancy Long, 51, of Viola, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola.

Gordon Nelson
Gordon T. Nelson, 74, of Geneseo, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Parkview Healthcare Center, East Moline.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Augusta Lutheran Church, Marietta, Minn. Burial is in Augusta cemetery , Lac Qui Parle Co., Minn. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Zahrbock Funeral Home, Madison, Minn. Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, is in charge of local arrangements.

He was born Dec. 26, 1928, in Louisburg, Minn., son of Oliver and Rhoda Mikkelson Nelson. He married Darlene Riley March 6, 1949, in Watertown, S.D.

He was a farmer and maintenance man.

Survivors (and spouses) are his wife, Darlene; daughters, Marie Nelson, Tucson, Ariz., and JoAnne (Dan) Rocha, Geneseo; sons, Dwayne (Susan) Nelson, Perham, Minn., and Dwight (Doreen) Nelson, Hackensack, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Hyldred Peterson, Minneapolis, Minn.; and brothers, Ordean Nelson, Howard Lake, Minn., and Lee Nelson, Marietta. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra, and sister, Avis.

Robert Prokup
Robert A. Prokup, 67, of Geneseo, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo, where he was a member. The Rev. Dan Olson will officiate. Burial will be in North cemetery , Geneseo. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson, and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to the Robert A. Prokup Memorial Fund.

Robert was born Aug. 7, 1935, in Annawan, son of Paul and Ruth Waters Prokup. He married Fama Rahn Sept. 7, 1969, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo.

He had been employed for Tom Ingram, Geneseo, as a sandblaster and body repairman. He later was employed as custodian of the Geneseo Community Center for 11 years, retiring in 2000.

He enjoyed gardening, outdoor work, woodworking and day trips.

Survivors include his loving wife, Fama; brother and spouse, Wayne J. and Donna Prokup, Jackson Miss.; brother-in-law and spouse, Duane and Connie Rahn, Joppa, Md.; several nieces and nephews; special friends, the Michael Whittington Family, Geneseo; and his favorite dog, Jelly Bean. He was preceded in death by his parents.

William Wyant
William Theodore Wyant, 77, of Linneus, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Northeast Regional Medical Center, Kirksville, Mo.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Schoene-Ruschmeier Funeral Home, Milan, Mo. Burial is in Campbell cemetery , south of Pollock, Mo., with military rites. Visitation was Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Campbell cemetery .

He was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Pollock. On Sept. 16, 1946, he married Virginia Gertrude Reger; six children were born to this marriage. In 1978, he married Janet Chapman; she preceded him in death in 1987.

Theodore moved to the Quad-Cities area (Moline and Colona) in 1947 and he worked for International Harvester until he retired in 1979. At that time, he moved to Linneus. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in France, Germany and England. He was a member of the United Auto Workers union. Theodore loved his garden, his tractor and, especially, his dog, Cinda.

He is survived by two sons, Larry Wyant, Shawnee, Okla., and Raymond Wyant, Colona; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Elizabeth and Robert Fast, Moline, and Betty Wyant-Ruhl and Charles, Colona; three stepdaughters; grandchildren, Jene Rembold, Sherri Kay Wyant, Dawn Marie Wyant, Stacy Lynn Fast-Meeks, Robert Charles Fast Jr. and Kristal Marie Ruhl; great-grandchildren, Nathan Sierra, Caitlin Rasso, Robert Charles Fast III, Zachary Allan Douglass Fast and Seth Rembolt; 14 stepgrandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; brother, Nova Wyant, Milan; sisters, Geraldine Roberts, Lucerne, Mo., Bernice Hines, Pollock, and Irene Reger and Frances Pipes, both of Milan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, William Douglass Wyant Feb. 9, 1968, and John Christopher Wyant Nov. 21, 1960; three brothers; four sisters; and a stepdaughter.

William Vickrey
William C. 'Bill' Vickrey, 68, of Davenport, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Davenport Good Samaritan Nursing Center following an extended illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Further arrangements are pending.

Glenn Wilkins
Glenn E. Wilkins, 76, of Bettendorf, died Feb. 8, 2003, at Bickford Cottage Hospice, Davenport.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Weerts, Davenport. Private family graveside services are at Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Visitation is 1 to 3 p.m. today.

He was born Oct. 21, 1926, in Highland, Ill., to Otis and Myrtle Wilkins. He married Joan Rosengren in 1949 and Shirley McLendon in 1962.

Survivors are his wife; daughters, Linda Bowers, Tulsa, Okla., Lori Christiansen, Moline, and Leann Lucas, Matherville; son, Jason, Bettendorf; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother.

Lucille Strabley
Lucille E. Strabley, 80, of Rock Island died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island. Prayers will start at 9:30 a.m. at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will follow at National cemetery , Arsenal Island.

Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary starting at 4:30 at the fuenral home. Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Catholic Relief Service.

Lucille was born Sept. 11, 1922, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Margaret Stewart Consamus. She married Robert Strabley Sept. 6, 1941, in Iowa City. He died Feb. 18, 1991.

Lucille was a respiratory technician at the former Franciscan Hospital, Rock Island.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island, where she also was a member of the women's group. Lucille enjoyed reading, following the Cubs and Hawkeyes, discussing politics, painting, and doing crossword puzzles.

Lucille is survived by daughters and spouses, Bonnie and Robert Kauth, Buffalo, Iowa, and Mary Kay and Cliff Wales, Florida; sons and spouses, Kenneth and Patricia Strabley, Chicago, Robert and Donna Strabley, Rock Island, and Michael and Leslie Strabley, Peoria; 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a brother, Lester Consamus, Davenport.

In addition to her husband, Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; great-granddaughter, Katherine Kauth; sisters, Lorraine Herrig and Margaret Deinlien; and brothers, Paul and Raymond Consamus.

Marlowe Smith
Marlowe R. Smith, 76, of Fort Myers, Fla., died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003.

Visitation is 1 to 2 p.m. today at Lee Memorial Park Funeral Home, 12777 State Road 82, Lehigh Acres, Fla., with funeral services starting at 2.

She was born May 11, 1926, in Moline and was raised there.

She is survived by her husband, Rolland, whom she married Jan. 23, 1943; daughters (and spouses) Ruth Ann (Kent) Coyne, Suzanne Kay (Larry) Reamy and Patricia Lee Smith; five grandsons; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Marvin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernhard and Ruth Weigandt, and a brother, Robert.
