Violet M. Hoeck, 54, of Davenport, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport.

Henry Jentz
Henry 'Hank' Jentz, 70, of Bettendorf, died Feb. 4, 2003, in Bettendorf.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Memorials go to Genesis Hospice or the family.

He worked at Dohrn Transfer.

He was born Jan. 19, 1933, in Potosi, Wis., son of Wilson and Maude Hudson Jentz.

Survivors are his wife, Joyce; sons, Todd Gohlmann, Ames, Iowa, Cory Jentz, Bettendorf, two grandsons; and brother, Joseph, Florida. He was preceded in death by brothers, David and Leonard.

Edward Pauly
Services for Edward A. Pauly, 85, Davenport, are 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Burial is in Mt. Calvary cemetery , Davenport.

Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Friday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, with a 4:30 p.m. prayer service.

Ed died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Trinity North, Davenport.

He was born July 30, 1917, in Davenport to Nicholas and Bertha Pauly. He married Mildred Bloom Aug. 13, 1952. She died in 2000.

Surviving are sister, Helen Eichberger, LeClaire; stepson, Harry Cushman, Davenport; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Roberts Snively
Roberts E. Snively, 88, died March 29, 2003, in Longwood, Fla. He was blessed with a happy and healthy life filled with love and family.

There will be no visitation, and a memorial service is planned for the near future, with details to be announced. The family is profoundly grateful for the kindness of our friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials should go to the Florida Hospital Foundation, 2809 N. Orange Ave., Orlando, FL 32804.

'Bob, ' as his friends knew him, was born Aug. 14, 1914, in Rock Island. He attended Augustana College and obtained his B.S. Degree in accountancy in 1936 from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, Ill. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

After graduating from the University of Illinois, he accepted a job as an accountant with Joan of Arc Company, headquartered in Hoopeston, Ill., where he later became president and chairman of the board. Bob served as president of the National Canners' Association, and he was a member of the board of directors for the First National Bank of Hoopeston.

He was a past member of the Hoopeston Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and Masonic Temple. He was an Eagle Scout, and he was active in the Boy Scouts of America and numerous other civic organizations throughout his life. In Florida, he attended Markham Woods Presbyterian Church.

His wife of 59 years, Margaret, survives him and continues to reside in Heathrow, Fla. He is also survived by his younger sister, Betsy Deardoff, Rock Island; daughter, Tamara J. Culbert, Orange Park, Fla.; sons, John R. Snively, Eustis, Fla., and Stephen W. Snively, Winter Park, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael J. Snively, Christopher Snively, Gabriel J. Culbert, Roberts P. Culbert, S. Tobias Snively, Benjamin D. Snively, Madeline R. Snively, Taylor A. Snively; and great-grandson, Aidan D. Snively. Bob was preceded in death by his older brother, W.D. Snively, Jr., M.D. of Evansville, Ind.

William Stubbs
William Max Stubbs, 76, of Terre Haute, Ind., formerly of Rock Island, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Southwood Healthcare and Rehab.

There will be no services. Cremation rites will be accorded.

He was born Oct. 23, 1926, in Belefonntin, Ohio, the son of William and Helen Polk Stubbs.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a retired branch manager from Melon Financial Corp. He was a former president of Rae Park Men's Golf Club Assc.

Survivors include his son, William F. Stubbs, Peoria, Ill.; grandchildren, Brent Stubbs, Aledo, and Krista Graff, Rock Island; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Corky Fredrick Stubbs in 1994.

Joel Dick
A memorial tribute and jam session for Joel D. Dick, 45, of Moline will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Rexie's Gourmet House, 623 17th St., Rock Island.

Memorials may be made to the educational fund for his son, Joshua Dick.

He died Friday, March 28, 2003, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.

Hulda Freeberg
Hulda Cecelia Freeberg, 94, of 21932 1650 North Ave., Princeton, died Friday, April 4.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Princeton, with the Rev. Jerome Diers officiating. Burial is in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton. Visitation is 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the church. Arrangements are by Norberg Memorial Home, Princeton.

She was born Dec. 31, 1908, in Ohio Township, Bureau County, Ill., the daughter of Carl Henning and Betty Cecelia Alm Anderson. She married Carl Roy Freeberg Feb. 18, 1933, at First Lutheran Church, Princeton. He preceded her in death Feb. 16, 2002.

She was an active member of the church, serving 11 years as altar flower leader. She was active in the Ladies Aid and later becoming a member of the Pricilla Circle. She belonged to the Presbyterian Hill Club. She was an officer in PTA groups for Dover Elementary School, Red Brick School and the Elm Grove School. She was a FHA Chapter Mother and a 4-H leader.

Survivors (and spouses) are daughters, Irene (Sheldon) Nordstrom, Moline, Inez (Richard) Hale, Princeton, Betty (Robert) Hillard, St. Louis, Mo.; sons, Ivan (Charon) Freeberg, Princeton, and Everett (Sue) Freeberg, Washington, Ill.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Albin Anderson; and a granddaughter, Jeanette Hale.

Joy Garland
Joy M. Garland, 78, of Witchita, Kan., formerly of Moline, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at home.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Resthaven Mortuary, Wichita. Memorials may be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.

She was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Speer, Ill., to Stephen M. and Izetta B. Conawa Willard.

She retired after 35 years of selling real estate.

Surviving are daughters, Ginger Kelley and Carol Gassert, both of Wichita, and Sharon Coil, Denver, Colo.; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin H., and a son, Neal Garland.

Velma Smith
Velma C. Smith, 88, of Moline, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Visitation will be two hours prior to service time on Sunday. Memorials may be made to First Evangelical Free Church, Moline.

Velma Holley was born Nov. 29, 1914, in Edmonton, Ky., the daughter of Douglas and Frona Walker Holley. She married James R. Smith Feb. 1, 1936, in Moline. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1976.

Velma was a member of First Evangelical Free Church, Moline. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Velma was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors (and spouses) are daughter, Joyce (Rev. Dr. Edmon R.) Clemmons, Milan; grandchildren, Cheryl (Frank) Richardson, Ogdensburg, N.Y., Kelly (Douglas) Luzano, Lomita, Calif., Bradley (Joann) Stribling, Moline; stepgrandchildren, Andrea (Sean) Riney, Moline, Larissa (Ralph) Taylor, Bremerton, Wash.; 10 great-grandchildren; half-sister, Marie Stanger, Chicago. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Garland Holley and Floyd Holley.

Jean Baumann
Services for Jean Baumann, 80, of East Moline, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline.

Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery Moline. Visitation will be noon until service time Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Moline Gospel Temple Church.

She died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.

Jean Probert was born March 13, 1923, in Birmingham, England, the daughter of John and Winnifred Marshall Probert. She married Raymond D. Baumann March 3, 1945, in Birmingham. He died July 7, 1983.

She had served with the Women's Land Army in England and met her husband while being stationed with the 307 Station Hospital, an American convalescent Hospital. She was the first British bride of an American serviceman to reach Creston, Iowa.

Mrs. Baumann was a member of the Moline Gospel Temple. She loved the Lord and her family.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Roger Miller and Karen and Mark Graham, all of East Moline; grandsons, Nathanael and Michael; granddaughter, Rachel; great-grandchildren, Keyante and Jordan; sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret Maslovic, Canada, and Sonia and James Sheldon, England; brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Jennifer Probert, Greece. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Ralph Tyner
Ralph W. Tyner, 70, of Evansville, Ind., died April 3, 2003, at Select Specialty Hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Alexander North Chapel, Evansville, officiated by Pastor Dave Mills. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Alexander and noon to 1 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Evansville Christian Life Center or Olivet Presbyterian Church.

Ralph was a good family man. He was a generous, good, caring person whose life reflected the life of Jesus.

Ralph retired from Whirlpool as an Engineer Supervisor and then returned as a Consultant.

He was a member of the Lapidary Club, Lessing Masonic Lodge 464, Olivet Presbyterian Church, and the Kennel Club. He collected marbles, knives and fountain pens.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beverlie Hewins, Evansville; daughter and son-in-law, LeeAnn and Russell McCarty, Evansville; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Ralph 'Randy' and Marje Tyner, East Moline, and Keith and Connie Tyner, Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Mary Lynn Tyner, Adam Tyner, Caitlin Tyner, Kelly Tyner, Kristen Tyner, Kacie Tyner, Caleb Tyner, Jennifer McCarty and James McCarty; and brother, William 'Bill' Tyner, Bloomington, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ervina Tyner.

T. Bart Price
T. Bart Price, 48, Moravian Falls, N.C., died Monday, March 31, 2003, at home.

Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at the Morrison Chapel of Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Burial is in Grove Hill cemetery , Morrison. Visitation is 6 to 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.

He was born Jan. 3, 1955, in Ypsilanti, Mich., to Robert R. and Helen Rogers Price. He married Kathy Hamilton July 13, 1973, in Morrison. He later married Debbie Cobb.

Surviving are wife, Debbie; son, T. Brandon Price, Clinton, Iowa; stepdaughter, Cassandra Hale, Oak Hill, Ohio; stepson, Jason Jackson, Wilkesboro, N.C.; sisters, Patricia 'Patti' Rock, Clinton, Elaine La Clair, Hovland, Minn.; brothers, Ben Price, Long Boat Key, Fla., Robert Price, Sarasota, Fla.

Dorothy Slentz
Dorothy M. (James) Slentz, 82, of Sherrard, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Manor Care Health Services, Davenport.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Chippiannock cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association, Mississippi Valley Chapter.

Mrs. Slentz was born Oct. 26, 1920, in Moline, the daughter of Harley and Emma Mortier James. She married Robert Slentz Dec. 24, 1943, in Roswell, N.M.

Along with being a homemaker, Dorothy loved being with her family. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. She also enjoyed traveling, swimming and tennis. She was a graduate of Rock Island High School, class of 1938.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Robert; children and their spouses, Dianne and John Gordon, Green Bay, Wis., Robert and Christy Slentz, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; sister, Helen Adelfinger, Folsom, Calif.; brother and his spouse, Robert and Kay James, Rock Island; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister.

Mabel Tromblee
Mabel Tromblee, 75, of Seaton, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo.

Maridell Besch
Maridell Besch, 59, of Davenport, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Services will be 6 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. today at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Genesis West Cancer Resource Center.

She was born June 10, 1943, in Moline, to Hazel and J. Walter Johnson. Maridell graduated from Cambridge High School in 1961. She attended and graduated from the American Institute of Commerce. Maridell Johnson was united in marriage to Ronald B. Besch Dec. 24, 1982, in Bettendorf.

She was employed as a logistics coordinator for Deere & Co. World Wide Headquarters, Moline, for 26 years prior to her retirement Dec. 31, 2002.

She enjoyed crocheting and vacationing in northern Wisconsin (Hayward area). She also enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing and most importantly, life itself. She adored animals, especially her dogs.

Survivors include her loving husband, Ronald; sons, daughter and spouses, Edward and Darla Cauwels, Cambridge, Lorna and Mike Miley, Litchfield Park, Ariz., and Mark and Diane Cauwels, Grapevine, Texas; grandchildren, Raiff E. Cauwels, Riley D. Cauwels, Blake A. Miley, Craig A. Miley, Todd A. Miley, Scott A. Miley, McKenzie T. Cauwels, Dylan M. Cauwels; brother, James Johnson, Las Vegas, Nev.; half-brother, Richard Wiquist, Lathrup Village, Mich.; half-sister, Norlaine Verschoore, Geneseo. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and twin daughters, Lorraine A. and Lorena M. Cauwels.
