Velma A. Beyer, 84, Davenport, formerly of Forest Park, Ill., died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Genesis West, Davenport.

Graveside services are 1 p.m. Friday at Chapel Hill Gardens West, 17W201 Roosevelt Road, in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family.

She was born May 12, 1918, in Chicago, to Hartwig and Emma Maas Mueller. She married Wilbert A. Beyer July 3, 1943. He died May 1, 2000.

Survivors is her sister-in-law, Grete Mueller, Davenport, and her family.

Russell Martinson
Russell R. Martinson, 44, Davenport, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at McGinnis-Chambers, Bettendorf. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

He was born May 26, 1958, in Stillwater, Minn.

His nieces and nephews always had a special place in his heart.

Surviving are parents, John and Dee Martinson, Davenport; sister, Kim, Mueller, Davenport; and his fiancee, Becky Seibert, Davenport, and her children.

John Morrissey
Services for Rev. John Morrissey, 90, Davenport, are 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport.

Burial is in the Priests' Circle at Mt. Calvary cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Thursday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, with a 5 p.m. prayer service. An additional visitation is 9 a.m. until service time at the cathedral.

He died April 1, 2003, at the Kahl Home, Davenport.

Surviving are brothers, Dr. Robert Morrissey, Louisville, Ky., Joseph Morrissey, Ottumwa, Iowa; two sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law.

Ada `Butch' Lobdill
Ada G. 'Butch' Lobdill, 83, of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Iowa Masonic Health Facility, Bettendorf.

Arrangements are pending at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.

Wardine Mosley-Parrow
Wardine Mosley-Parrow, 60, of Muscatine, Iowa, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.

Dorothy Carmody
Dorothy S. Carmody, 84, of Oak Park, Ill., died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at West Surburban Hospital, Oak Park.

Services are 9:15 a.m. Saturday at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, Oak Park, followed by Mass at 10 a.m. at Ascension Catholic Church, Oak Park. Visitation is 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Among survivors is her son, Dan Carmody, of Rock Island.

Liesa Knoles
Liesa Marie Knoles, 39, of Geneseo, formerly of Rock Island, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo.

Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial is in Chippiannock cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is noon until time of service.

She was born Nov. 17, 1963, in Moline to Carl Eugene and Jane Lorraine Lough Knoles.

Liesa enjoyed country music, her stuffed animals and spending time with her grandkids.

Surviving are her sons, David Knoles, Moline, and Bryan Johnson, Silvis; four grandchildren; and a sister, Debbie Knoles, Moline. She was preceded in death by her father and brother, James.

Helen McAdams
Helen M. McAdams, 99, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline.

Thomas Thompson
Services for Thomas C. Thompson, 72, of Rock Island, are 1 p.m. Friday at Greater Antioch Baptist Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Chippiannock cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are by Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Mr. Thompson died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

He was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Tennessee, son of Tommy and Media Thompson. He married Minnie Bell in 1951 in Gates, Tenn. He married Neva Ann Porter May 5, 1973, in Rock Island. She died Oct. 15, 2002.

He worked at John Deere Foundry in East Moline for more than 30 years. He was a deacon at Greater Antioch Baptist Church, Rock Island. He enjoyed singing and was part of the choral group The Royal Harmoneers. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching WWE and being with his grandchildren.

Survivors (and spouses) include daughters, Hattie Mae (Gregory) Grey and Amelia Faye (Dewayne) Cole, both of Jackson, Tenn., Tommie Ester Thompson and Betty (Eric) Carter, both of Nashville, Tenn.; son, Thomas (Jessica) Thompson Jr., Rock Island; other daughters, Julie (Cecil) Bates, Lillian (Steve) Cunningham and Devra Collier, all of Rock Island; other sons, Ernest Collier, Moline, and Jerome Collier, Rockford, Ill.; sisters, Clara M. Tryus, Gates, Louise Pearson and Ella Mae Neely, both of Rock Island; brothers, Joe Lee Thompson, Gates, and Charlie Thompson Jr., Rock Island; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special loved one, Luci Pierson, Rock Island.

Paula Aubry-Pruden
Paula J. Aubry-Pruden, 56, of Tempe, Ariz., formerly of Moline, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, in Tempe.

Services are 9 a.m. Saturday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Further arrangements are pending.

Robert Montgomery
A memorial Mass for Robert Montgomery, 91, of Santa Cruz, Calif., will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St Mary's Catholic Church, Moline. Interment will be at St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Friends and family are invited to attend the memorial Mass and a gathering at Happy Joe's in Milan from 12:30 to 2:30 pm..

Bob died May 15, 2003, in Santa Cruz.

He was a World War II veteran. He drove truck for Standard Forwarding of Moline for 25 years and was a member of Teamsters Union, retiring in 1974.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pauline Montgomery, and his son, Richard Montgomery, both of Santa Cruz; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his son, Robert J. Montgomery; and two daughters, Nancy Frye and Judy Neyens.

Robert Nees
Robert D. Nees, 74, of Moline, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today. Memorials to American Cancer Society.

He was born May 30, 1929, in New London, Iowa, son of Ralph and Myrtle Brown Nees. He married Rosetta M. King July 21, 1954, in Louisville, Ky. She died Dec. 19, 1989.

He was employed at International Harvester, East Moline. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed his animals.

Survivors (and spouses) include his daughters, Bonnie (Vern) Wright, Moline, Darlene Lear, Moline, and Kathy Nees, Colona; stepdaughter, Sharon Winninger, Louisville; sons, Robert Nees, Moline, and Raymond Nees, Moline; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and brothers, twin, Raymond Nees, Moline, and Bill Nees, New Jersey.

Phylita Shinneman
Phylita Shinneman, 84, of Moline, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial is in Weldon, Ill., cemetery . Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church, Moline; Friendship Manor; or the University of Illinois. Arrangements are by Wendt Funeral Home, Moline.

She was born Sept. 9, 1918, in DeWitt County, Ill., daughter of Orval and Maude Watson Shinneman. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a master's degree. She was an English teacher for 36 years in the Moline School District, retiring in 1976.

She was a member of First Congregation Church and its friendship guild, DAR, RTA and King's Daughters.

Surviving are her sisters, Phylis Lisenby, Decatur, Ill., and Zoe Kirk, Normal, Ill.; sister-in-law, Millie Shinneman, Bloomington, Ill.; and many nephews and nieces.

Herbert `Grandpa' Weber
Herbert W. 'Grandpa' Weber, 93, of Moline, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Beulah Presbyterian Church, Orion. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Memorials go to Beulah Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.

He was born Oct. 7, 1909, in Geneseo to Herman and Josephine Sweeney Weber. He married Etheleen Paxton Oct. 15, 1927, in Moline. She died in November 1980.

Herbert and his wife owned and operated Plow City Ceramics in the 1960s and 1970s, and he also worked for Moline American Legion Post 246. He was a precision grinder for John Deere Plow and Planter, retiring in 1972 after 42 years of service. While at John Deere, Herbert received several commendations for his safety inventions.

He was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church. He also was a Sunday school teacher and the superintendent of Sunday school for many years at the Baptist Church in Erie. He was a volunteer for the SHARE program at Coyne Center, Earl Hanson School, Rock Island, and the Rock Island National cemetery . He was an avid Civil War re-enactor with the Unit Scotts Tennessee Battery since 1981. He was also in two major motion pictures, 'Glory' and 'Gettysburg.' He was the Super Senior in 1983.

Herbert also enjoyed gardening, models and string art. He was known as 'Apple Grandpa' by many.

Survivors (and spouses) include his daughters, Joyce Schoening and Mary Jo White, both of Rock Island, and Jackie (George) Brown, Lanark, Ill.; son, Bill (Mary) Weber, Milan; grandchildren, Carol Ann Schoening, Lester (Christyne) White and Kenneth White, all of Rock Island, Lewis Brown, Lanark, Vicky (Doug) Blair, Orion, Bill Weber Jr., Milan, Mary Ellen (Luis) Vasquez, East Moline, and Penny (Edmund) Peterson, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; 14 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; five stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and sister, Joan (Charles) Studuhar, Webster City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth, his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Myra Dorman
Myra Bertha Dorman, 86, of East Moline, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at her home.

Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, East Moline.

Further arrangements are pending at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline.

Diana McDanel
Diana D. McDanel, 60, of East Moline, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Family Funeral Services, Colona. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

She was born June 15, 1943, in Geneseo, daughter of Wilbur and Hazel Storm Kowitz.

She was employed at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline for 27 years. She enjoyed family holiday celebrations, her grandchildren, her dog Tasha, the riverboats, fishing, playing bingo, parades and holidays.

Surviving are sons and a spouse, Jeffrey and Kathy McDanel, Clinton, Iowa, and William D. McDanel, East Moline; grandchildren, Mackinze Grace and Jennifer Kathleen McDanel; and a sister, Gloria Carter, Jerseyville, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son and two brothers.

John Miller
John Robert Miller, 63, of 1680 St. Andrews Circle, Elgin, Ill., died Friday, June 13, 2003, at home.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Cornerstone Church, 41W170 Russell Road, Plato Center, Ill., with the Rev. Paul Meyers officiating. Visitation is 10 a.m. to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fox Valley Hospice or the church.

He was born May 15, 1940, in Moline, son of C. Robert and Mary Evalene Miller. He was a 1958 graduate of United Township High School. He served in the U.S. Army for three years.

He was employed at the Illinois Fairplan Association in Chicago for 31 years.

He had been a member of Cornerstone Church since its beginning. He was an active member of the church choir.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Lynne Simons Miller; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Patrick Smith, Fort Leavenworth, Kan.; son, Jason Miller, DeKalb, Ill.; two granddaughters; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Christine Miller, Naples, Fla.; two nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents.
