Sylvia Peterson
Sylvia N. Peterson, 91, of Moline died June 13, 2003, at her son's home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Sylvia N. Dunham was born June 27, 1911, in Detroit, Ill., to William O. and Ida May Bonnet Dunham. She married Raymond A. Peterson. He preceded her in death in June of 1968.

Sylvia was a homemaker. She contributed to Mittens for Kids. She enjoyed writing letters and sending greeting cards. She was very devoted to her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Peterson, Moline; son, William Peterson, Moline; stepdaughters, Margaret Zimmerman, Colona, and Dorothy Mahaffey, Hannibal, Mo.; stepson, LaVerne Peterson, Cambridge; 13 stepgrandchildren; sister, Josephine Hodson, Hannibal. She was preceded in death by a son David; brothers, Lloyd, Eugene, Lawrence and John; sisters, Grace, Edna, Nettie, Iva, Sarah and Florine.

Roscoe Wilson
Roscoe S. Wilson, 87, of Moline, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, Illinois.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Evangelical Free Church, Moline, with the Rev. Andrew Goffinet officiating. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church, Arrowhead Ranch, or Genesis Dialysis Service.

Mr. Wilson was born July 31, 1915, in Moline, the son of Fred T. and Rena Jones Wilson. He served in the U. S. Army's Occupation Force in Japan during World War II. He married Vera M. Clark in 1936, in Moline. She died in 1985. He married Edith Limkeman Sidlinger in 1989, in Moline. She died May 6, 2002.

He was employed at Montgomery Elevator Company, Moline, for 51 years, retiring as mail department manager in 1987.

He was a member of First Evangelical Free Church, Moline, volunteered at Arrowhead Ranch for several years, and had been active with Youth For Christ. He was an accomplished violin player.

Roscoe is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Beverly Wilson, Palmdale, Calif.; step-daughters, Joyce Archibald, and her husband Martin, Bettendorf, and Betty Sidlinger, Livermore, Calif.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wives, his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Jack Viren
Funeral services for Jack P. Viren, 85, Silvis, are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in Calvary cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.

Mr. Viren died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at his home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1917, in Moline, the son of Fred and Marguerite O'Connell Viren. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Moline. He married Jean E. Dahlstedt, Aug. 4, 1941, in East Moline. She died March 15, 1991.

Jack served in the South Pacific in the US Army during World War II. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and calling to tell them when the Cubs won. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture.

Mr. Viren retired in 1977 as a machine operator from the former International Harvester Farmall Plant, Rock Island, with 29 years of service.

Survivors include children and spouses, Jack and Carol Viren, Toledo, Ohio, Jean and Dr. Richard Morehead, Wausau, Wis., Daniel and Linda Viren, Dublin, Ohio, Maryellen and Stephen Neal, Bartlett, Ill., and Pete and Jackie Viren, Silvis; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marguerite Downing, and a brother, Richard O. Viren, both of Rock Island.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, seven brothers and sisters and a grandson, Jack Viren III.

Kathryn Heaton
Kathryn Heaton, 65, of Kewanee, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Arrangements are pending at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee.

Donna Krahn
Services for Donna L. Krahn, 68, of Kewanee, are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee. Visitation is 11:30 a.m. to service time. Burial is in Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee.

Mrs. Krahn died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Kewanee Hospital.

She was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Woodhull, to Earl and Helen Johnson Payne.

Surviving are a son, Jay, Kewanee; daughter, Kami Kasap, Wheaton, Ill.; granddaughter, Hannah Krahn; brother, Jim Payne, Kewanee, and Jerald Payne, Junction City, Kan.; sisters, Audrey Hodgett, Annawan, and Pat DeWolfe, Kansas City, Kan.

LaRee Simpson
LaRee Simpson, 74, of Cordova died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church, Port Byron. Burial will be in Fairfield cemetery . Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to the church or to Pathway Hospice.

The former LaRee Sutton was born June 6, 1929, in Rock Island, the daughter of Lloyd and Zula Mae Smith Sutton. She married Delbert Simpson on July 26, 1947, in Coe Township. He died on May 3, 2002.

LaRee had been employed at General Electric, Morrison, then retired in 1980 as a secretary at Riverdale Schools. She had also owned and operated the Wood Shed Gift Shop, Cordova. She was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church. She enjoyed arranging flowers, planning weddings, her friends and family but most of all her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathi and Gary Lindquist, Fond-Du-Lac, Wis.; sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Melinda Simpson, Hillsdale and Craig Simpson, Iowa City; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley O'Neil, Erie; a brother, Dean Sutton, East Moline; and an aunt, Doris Ivers, Hillsdale. She was preceded in death by a son, Lonnie.

Douglas Sproston Jr.
Douglas L. Sproston Jr., 23, of Aledo, died Saturday June 14, 2003, at Mercer County Hospital in Aledo.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo, with the Rev. John Crede of Aledo United Methodist Church officiating. Burial is in Aledo cemetery . Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the Cameron Sproston Education Fund.

He was born Jan. 16, 1980, in Aledo, a son of Douglas and Rebecca Barnes Sproston. He attended Aledo Schools and received his Commercial Driver's License in Paducah, Ky. He was engaged to be married to Melinda Neer of Aledo.

He worked at the Milan Auto Auction and Happy Joe's. He was currently employed at Crop Production Services in Joy, Ill.

Doug was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed Playstation 2.

He is survived by his fiance, Melinda Neer, a daughter, Cameron Sproston, his mother, Rebecca Barnes Sproston, his father, Douglas Sproston Sr., a brother, Christopher Sproston, and paternal grandparents, John and Evelyn Sproston, all of Aledo; maternal grandmother, Janice Barnes of Hannibal, Mo.; great-grandfather, Joseph Matkin, Rock Island; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Esther Korner
Esther M. Korner, 92, of Davenport, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Davenport Lutheran Home.

Arrangements are pending at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.

Vincent Mitchell
Vincent T. Mitchell, 38, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, at his home.

Alvin Petersen
Alvin L. Petersen, 77, of Bettendorf, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at ManorCare Health Services, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.

Marie Tullberg
Marie E. Tullberg, 87, of Bettendorf, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Bettendorf Health Care Center.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport.

Herbert Willers
Herbert F. Willers, 85, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the mortuary.

Further arrangements are pending.

Kathleen Greer
Kathleen R. Greer, 50, Rock Island, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.

She was born Feb. 4, 1953, in Davenport, the daughter of Harry and Helen Bennett Quinn. She had been married for 25 years and raised three children.

Survivors include her children, Steven Greer, Kearns, Utah, Daniel and Jennifer Greer, Davenport, Melissa Greer, Rock Island; and three granddaughters, Katey, Ashley and Emily.

Sara Gruby
Sara Jean Gruby, 83, of Rock Island, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

A memorial service will he held at a later date. In accordance with her wishes, her body has been cremated. There will be no visitation. Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, handled arrangements.

Jean was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Muscatine, the daughter of Walter B. and Ethyl Yeager Humphries. She married Edward A. Gruby Aug. 1, 1948, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death July 31, 1976.

Jean was a switchboard operator, working for the former Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Company, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Rock Island, and belonged to the Killowetts Club and the Telephone Pioneers.

Survivors (and spouses) include her son, William E. (Veronica) Gruby, Coal Valley; grandson, Michael Gruby, Coal Valley; sister, Helen Brandt, Moline; sister-in-law, Lenore Humphries, Florida; nephew, Jeff Brandt, Moline; and special friend, Mary Jane Meiresonne, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Walter, Chester and William Humphries; and a nephew.

Ruth Kealey
Ruth C. Kealey, 89, of Rock Island, formerly of Hot Springs, Ark., died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at St. Anthony's Continuing Center, Rock Island.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In accordance with her wishes, her body has been cremated. There is no visitation. Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, handled arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony's Church Care & Share Program, Davenport.

She was born Nov. 19, 1913, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Constantine and Marie Andrejewski Ceglecki. She married Edwin Kealey Sept. 17, 1960. He preceded her in death in 1984.

Survivors (and spouses) are niece, Kathryn (J. Thomas) Jansen, Rock Island; and nephew, John (Roberta) Kealey, Eldridge, Iowa.

Ruth Batty
Ruth Irene Batty, 96, a resident of Wesley Village, Macomb, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at McDonough District Hospital, Macomb.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Macomb. The Rev. Mark Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Durham cemetery , Durham Township, Ill. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. today at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home, Macomb. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until services Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Preachers Aid Society or to the Wesley United Methodist Church, Macomb.

She was born Aug. 19, 1906, in Dallas City, Ill., the daughter of Guy and Florence Gochenour Hull. She married the Rev. Walter G. Batty June 15, 1932. He preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1979.

Ruth was a 1929 graduate of Knox College. She had lived in the Quad-Cities for 15 years, Dwight, Ill., for eight years and moved to Macomb in 1973.

She was a school teacher for 30 years and had taught both elementary and high school. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, had served on the outreach committee, and also the U.M.W. and D.A.R.

Survivors (and spouses) are her son, Dr. Paul W. (Carol) Batty, Ypsilanti, Mich.; daughter, Carol Sackett, Moline; brother, Dr. Dean Hull, Clarence, Miss.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Maude Neve, and brothers, Dale and Keith Hull.

Margery Longabaugh
Margery Elaine Longabaugh, 83, of Tucson, Ariz., passed to the eternal care of the Lord on Monday, June 2, 2003.

She was born Feb. 20, 1920, in Murray, Ky., the daughter of Lubie and Emily Jones. She spent her childhood and a large part of her adult life in Sterling, Ill., where she married her high school sweetheart, Jack Longabaugh, in 1942.

They moved to Moline in 1958, where she continued to volunteer for the March of Dimes, PTA, church activities and all things that revolved around family.

The Longabaughs retired to Tucson in 1979, where they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last August.

She leaves behind her legacy, two loving children, Judy Minucci and Jim Longabaugh. She loved her son-in-law, Albert Minucci, and daughter-in-law, Chery Longabaugh, very much. Her beloved grandchildren, Lisa and Lara Minucci and Jenny and Andy Longabaugh, were her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Jim Jones; and sister, Mary Goosherst.
