Betty Buchanan
Betty J. Buchanan, 73, of Erie died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at Pleasant View Home, Morrison.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Burial will be in National cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The former Betty Jean Walker was born Aug. 28, 1930, in East Peoria, the daughter of Lyle and Thelma Noel Walker. She married Vernon Buchanan Sept. 19, 1954, in Moline. He died May 14, 1993. She enjoyed sewing, but most of all enjoyed her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Lee Litchfield, Port Byron, Verna and Jim Ballard, Erie, and Thelma and Ricky Ballard, Erie; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ida Schroeder, Davenport, Doris Wilkins, Preemption, Lenora Ahrens, Omaha, Neb., and Gloria Cunningham, East Moline; brothers, Melvin Walker, Sherrard, Robert Walker, Rock Island, Howard Walker, Clinton, and Larry Walker, Middleburg, Fla. She was preceded in death by two granddaughters.

Alma Coussens
Alma M. Coussens, 90, of Port Byron died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Rapids City. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a prayer service at 4 p.m. at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, Iowa City.

The former Alma Mary Maertens was born Feb. 1, 1913, in East Moline, the daughter of Hector and Augusta DePaepe Maertens. She married Remy Coussens June 20, 1936, in East Moline. He died Aug. 22, 1982.

She was a member of the church. Alma enjoyed wallpapering, gardening and keeping a very clean house.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Jilleen and John Wagner, Bloomington, Ill., Judy and Lee Thomas, Galva; sons and daughters-in-law, George and Nadine Coussens, Avon, Ill., Thomas and Carole Coussens, Rapids City, Clifford and Sarah Coussens, Davenport, Walter and Jill Coussens, Helenville, Wis., and Lawrence and Barb Coussens, Prophetstown; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Stevens, Galva. She was preceded in death by a great-grandchild and two brothers.

Mildred `Granny' Crawford
Mildred E. 'Granny' Crawford, 84, of Taylor Ridge died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at her home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Edgington Presbyterian Church. Burial is in Edgington cemetery . Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Family Funeral Services, Reynolds, with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. Tuesday conducted by O.E.S. Chapter 617 of Andalusia. Memorials may be made to Edgington cemetery or Shriners or Shriners Childrens Hospital.

She was born July 5, 1918, in Andalusia, the daughter of Glen and Matilda Schmidt Guyer. She married LeRoy Crawford March 9, 1944, in Rock Island. He died August 1983.

She was a farmwife. She was a 50 year member of White Shrine, 50 year member of Daughters of the Nile, 67 year member and past worthy matron of Andalusia Chapter 617, O.E.S., Reynolds Garden Club, president of Neighborhood Club and the Jolly Sixties. She enjoyed playing cards, needlework, sewing, cooking, gardening and spending time with her family.

Survivors include daughter and spouse, Joyce and Lane Freyermuth, Illinois City; son and spouse, Robert and Alice Crawford, Reynolds; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Guyer, Geneseo; and a special friend, Lauren Whitney. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Angela Kurrle
Angela Kay Kurrle, 49, of Kankakee died Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at her home.

Memorial services were June 6 at the Kankakee Junior High School, with the Rev. Richard Boyd and Rev. Ronald Bartlett officiating. Cremation rites were accorded with arrangements by Lax Mortuary, Kankakee.

The Angela Kurrle Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established. Memorials may be sent in care of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Jack Kurrle, 73 Southview St., Kankakee, IL 60901.

She was born Feb. 16, 1954, in Fort Madison, Iowa.

Angela was a graduate of Aledo High School. In 1976, she graduated from Monmouth College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. While at Monmouth, she was Resident Dormitory Advisor, a member of the Student Senate and Class Secretary. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and later a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

In 1998, Angela earned a Master of Arts Degree from St. Xavier University in Chicago. She co-authored and taught Cooperative Learning and Multiple Intelligence Classes to other colleagues.

She started her teaching career at St. Mary's Academy in Nauvoo. Ms. Kurrle taught science at Kankakee Junior High School for 16 years and at Kankakee High School for two years. She also taught home bound and optional educational students. Angela was founder and coordinator of the Homework Lab for both the junior and senior high schools. At the junior high, she was once the girls' basketball coach and led her team to state competition. She was facilitator for the Beta Club, as well as a member of the National Junior Beta Club. A member of the Kankakee Federation of Teachers' Union Local 604, she served as vice president for four years and as secretary for four years. She was the educational research and dissemination teacher trainer for Local 604 for the Chicago teachers. Angela was secretary for the Illinois Federation of Teachers' Women's Rights Committee.

Angela was a volunteer caregiver for breast cancer survivors and participated with the AFT Breast and Cervical Cancer Project. She served as Assistant Director in Youth Ministry in her church. Other past memberships and affiliations include Young Career Women's Program, Western Illinois Special Olympics, Afro-Academic Cultural Technological and Scientific Olympics. As a youth, she was a Girl Scout, and her 4-H Club membership allowed her to cultivate her lifelong love of horses. She was an avid Star Trek fan and had a keen interest in Astronomy.

She was a successful entrepreneur, in the enterprise of jewelry and fashions. Early in her career, she was buyer and manager for the women and junior department of the former Bowman Colwell Department Store in Monmouth.

She loved her students and treasured the interaction she had with youth in general. Angela had a powerful impact on many, many lives as was evident by the numerous tributes and hundreds of people who attended her memorial service.

Angela leaves to cherish her memory her parents, Jack and Donna Kurrle, Kankakee; sister, Jacqueline Kurrle, Kankakee; brother, Dean Kurrle, Kankakee; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Konstance Kurrle, Pocahontas. Ill.; nephew and niece, Conner and Kayla Kurrle, Pocahontas; special friend, Kirby Williams, Kankakee; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, colleagues, current and former students and parents of same.

Betty Nash
Betty Nash, 84, of rural Galva died Sunday, June 29, 3003, at Kewanee Care Home.

Arrangements are pending at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Galva.

Arlene Cherryholmes
Arlene Cherryholmes, 66, of Davenport died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at home.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Robert Hamann
Robert M. Hamann, 79, of Davenport died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Manor Health Care Center, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport.

Lyle Harris Sr.
Lyle E. Harris Sr., 71, of Davenport died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Randy Lee
Randy L. Lee, 52, of Bettendorf passed away Thursday, June 26, 2003, at his home.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. today at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to the family or American Lung Association. Following the graveside services, a meal will be served at the Hidden Hills Golf Course Club House, Bettendorf.

Randy was born March 31, 1951, in Rock Island, the son of Warren L. and Mary Engstrom Lee. He was united in marriage to Marcia McCormick Sept. 20, 1997, on the practice green of Hidden Hills Golf Course.

Randy graduated from Black Hawk College in 1971 with an associates degree. He was employed for 25 years at John Deere, Davenport.

Randy was an avid golfer and bowler. He was a member of Hidden Hills Golf Course, UAW Local 281 John Deere Davenport Works and member of 700 Bowling Club, Davenport.

Survivors include wife, Marcia, Bettendorf; sons, Josh Lee, Moline, Matthew Lee, San Diego, Calif.; stepdaughters and spouses, Lisa and Matthew Eveleth, Bettendorf, Bridget and Scott Farrell, Dallas, Texas; mother, Mary Lee, East Moline; sister and brother-in-law, Marcia and Dennis Houston, Moline; brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Karen Lee, Fort Collins, Colo.; nieces and nephews, Beverly Huston, Marlena Huston, Jason Lee, Nathan Lee, Melissa Tammeus; great-nephew, Brock Tammeus; two sisters-in-law, Carol Evans-Twigg and Susan Woodard; and brother-in-law, Rick Drummond. He was preceded in death by his father, Warren L. Lee.

Mabel Raney
Mabel M. Raney, 84, of Davenport, formerly of Milan, Mo., died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at Trinity North, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.

Bernard Ruskey
Bernard Ruskey, 68, of Eddyville, Iowa, formerly of Colona, died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eddyville Funeral Chapel. Burial is in Eddyville cemetery . Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials go to the family.

He was born Jan. 4, 1935, in Chicago, to William and Agnes Stevens Ruskey. He married Lynn Stice in 1976 in Chicago.

He was a machinist at JI Case, Rock Island, and a member of local 806 Machinist Union.

Survivors are his wife; children, Bill, Ottumwa, Iowa, and Linda Holsten, Fremont, Iowa; stepchildren, Brad Miller, Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Teresa Ryun, Leighton, Iowa; sister, Betty Haines, Ottumwa; six grandchildren; and great-grandson.

Beverly Wooldridge
Beverly Wooldridge, 71, of Davenport died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at Genesis West.

Private family services will be held. Memorials go to Gilda's Club. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born March 19, 1932, in Sioux Falls, S.D. She married Larry Wooldridge in 1950 in Davenport. He preceded her in death

Survivors are daughters, Connie Groth, Davenport, and Holly Bladel, Clinton, Iowa; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded by daughter, Kathy Wooldridge, Dec. 24, 2002.

Dorothy Coffman
Dorothy Coffman, 95, of New York, N.Y., formerly of Rock Island, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at home.

Services were held in New York. Unity Funeral Chapel, New York, handled arrangements.

Mrs. Coffman was an avid music lover and also loved to sing. She worked as a R.N. until she retired.

Survivors are a son, James Coffman, Braxton, N.Y.; and cousins, Gladys Williams, Raymond Stoner and Rosalee Smith, all of Rock Island, and Francis Clay, San Francisco, Calif.

Milton `Mel' Dismukes
Milton R. 'Mel' Dismukes, 72, of Rock Island, died June 25, 2003, at his residence.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should meet at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline, at 1:30 p.m. to process to the cemetery . There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society.

Milton was born Sept. 25, 1930, in Nashville, Tenn., the son of Wiley Parminter and Blanche Harper Dismukes.

Milton was employed as a smoker for the Davenport Fish Company for several years and was also self-employed as a painter and maintenance man. He was in the U.S. Navy and received the Korean Service Medal and the Navy Occupations Medal. He served on the USS Seminole (AKA-104). He loved the casinos, cards and animals. He was a 'perfectionist.'

Survivors include Carol J. Gross-Gardner and Leslie R. Gardner who were his adopted family and his special caregiver, Angie 'O' -- our love goes with him. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A special thanks to the Hospice Pathway and Dr. Garneau and all the wonderful people at the Cancer Center -- 7th Street Campus.

Bea Musick
Bea Musick, 84, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Inurnment will be Tuesday in the National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the church.

The former Bea Mrazak was born March 21, 1919, in Springfield, Ill., the daughter of William and Leona Black Mrazak. She married John F. Musick Sept. 13, 1942, in Rock Island.

Bea had worked as a supervisor at the Rock Island Arsenal and retired in 1981.

She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, the church's Altar and Rosary Society and the King's Daughters. Bea enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, watching television and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband, John; son, Michael Musick, Rock Island; daughter, Marybeth Scott, Palm City, Fla.; and grandson, Cameron Lee Jackson, Palm City. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kevin Musick; and a brother, Glenn Mrazak.

The family wishes to extend heart filled thanks to the staff of Heartland Heath Care Center for the wonderful care given to their wife and mother.

Mary Perry
Mary Ann Perry, 66, of Rock Island, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island, where further arrangements are pending.

Dale Wilson
Dale W. Wilson, 90, of East Moline, died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be in Cordova cemetery . Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday.

Mr. Wilson was born Jan. 3, 1913, in East Moline. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Inez E. Ziegler Feb. 16, 1946, in East Moline.

He was employed by Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric for 45 years, retiring 1977.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Florence Jackson, East Moline; and a brother, Charles J. Wilson, Richmond, Calif.
