Dorothy Mae Smith

Dorothy Mae Smith, 76, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005. As per her request there will be no visitation or services. Inurnment will be at a later date in Greenmound Cemetery in Trenton. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Eileen Moser

Eileen Margaret Moser, 84, of Burlington, died at 8:40 PM Monday, March 7, 2005, at the Great River Medical Center Klein Center.

Born January 30, 1921, in Wein, MO, she was the daughter of Benedict and Mary Theresa Mitch Bixenman. She married William A. "Pete" Moser on August 22, 1941, in San Diego, CA. He died January 30, 1983.

Mrs. Moser worked at J.C. Penney Co. in the Catalog/Credit Department for 24 years.

She was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning, loved her roses and especially spending time with her family.

She was a member of SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, and member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She belonged to the J.C. Penny's Retirees Club, the Widows Club and the Twins Club.

Survivors include four sons, William A. (Sandra) Moser of Pelican Rapids, MN, Robert (Lucia) Moser of Burlington, twins Keith (Cindy) Moser of Burlington and Kevin (Karla Webber) Moser of Burlington; two daughters, Patricia (Russell) Crowner of Ames, IA, and Linda (Harlan) Schafer of Wapello; 13 grandchildren; 12 great–grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Bixenman of Wever and Gerald Bixenman of Panama City, FL; two sisters, Rita Pranger of Lacey, WA, and Marjorie Dunn of Galesburg, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one infant son.

Visitation will begin after 8:00 AM Thursday, March 10, at the Hass–Thielen Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 6:30 PM after which the family will receive friends until 8:00 PM.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Moser will be 10:00 AM, Friday, March 11, at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington, with Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Grotto at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington.

Ernest Holtkamp

Ernest John Holtkamp, 82, of Houghton, died at 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at Donnellson Health Center.

Born April 18, 1922, in Mount Hamill, he was the son of Henry Jr. and Margaret Schinstock Holtkamp. On Nov. 9, 1957, he married Eileen Reuter in St. Paul.

Mr. Holtkamp was a lifetime farmer.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Houghton and the Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Ernest Holtkamp Jr. of Houghton; one nephew; and five nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Houghton, with a rosary recited at 3 p.m., a wake service at 6 p.m. and the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Holtkamp will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Beckman officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Church Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for St. John's Catholic Church.

Link Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Ella Schulz

Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Schulz, 91, of Beemer, NE, were held Saturday, February 11, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beemer, with Pastor David List officiating. Burial was in Beemer Cemetery . Kuzelka–Minnick Funeral Home in Beemer, NE, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Schulz passed away on Monday, February 6, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, NE.

Survivors include her children, Gary and wife Marilyn Schulz of Beemer, Duane and wife Ardith Schulz of West Point, NE, Ronnie and wife Judy Schulz of Naperville, IL, Shirley and husband Jerome Kersten of Peoria, IL; daughter–in–law, Shirley Schulz of Wisner, NE; 13 grandchildren, including Lisa Jacobs of Peoria, IL; 25 great–grandchildren; one step grandchild and two sisters–in–law, Viola Brown of Wisner and Kathy Schulz of Sweetwater, TN.

Della Frazee

Della A. Frazee, 82, of Wayland, Mo., died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at her home.

Born Dec. 16, 1922, near Alexandria, Mo., she was the daughter of George H. and Nellie Conway Murphy. On June 7, 1941, she married Harry N. Frazee in Memphis, Mo.

Mrs. Frazee worked for J.C. Penney in Keokuk. She later worked as head cook at Running Fox Elementary School for more than 20 years until retiring. She also was sexton for many years for Frazee Cemetery.

She was a graduate of Wayland High School. She was a member of Wayland United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, O'Donnell Camp No. 9029 Royal Neighbors of America in Wayland and was a former member of Kahoka Chapter No. 40 order of Eastern Star. She loved to cook.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Terry Frazee of Hallsville, Mo.; one daughter, Kathy Foldes of Des Moines; five grandchildren; four great–grandchildren; one brother, Russell (Jack) Murphy of Kahoka; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, seven brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to the time of service Saturday at Wayland United Methodist Church.

A memorial service for Mrs. Frazee will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wayland United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Deborah Schmidt, Natie Frazee and Dan Deatrick officiating. Private burial will be in Frazee Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Wayland United Methodist Church.

Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka is in charge of arrangements.

Eva McIntyre

Eva Alice McIntyre, 101, of Olena, Ill., died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2005, in LaMoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville, Ill.

Born Sept. 12, 1903, near Stronghurst, Ill., she was the daughter of Irvin and Jessie Burrell. On Oct. 17, 1923, she married Ralph Dale McIntyre in Gladstone, Ill. He died Aug. 1, 1982.

Mrs. McIntyre baked pies for the Stronghurst Café for many years and later worked at the Hotel Burlington for several years.

She lived most of her life in the Olena area. She was a member of Stronghurst Senior Citizens, where she helped serve meals. She was a Gold Star Mother and a member of Stronghurst American Legion Auxiliary and Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Donald McIntyre of Stronghurst; seven grandchildren; 22 great–grandchildren; 21 great–great–grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, one brother, two sisters and two great–grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The graveside service for Mrs. McIntyre will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Olena Cemetery , with the Rev. Larry Lambert officiating.

Memorials have been established for Olena Baptist Church.

Clifford Gittings

Clifford L. Gittings, 71, of Lomax, Ill., died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at his home.

Born Feb. 7, 1933, in Lomax, Ill., he was the son of Clifford C. and Zelma Watts Gittings. On July 3, 1953, he married Harriet J. Bearden in Monmouth, Ill. She died June 13, 1984. On May 17, 1985, he married Marjorie Bachmann Simler in Fort Madison.

Mr. Gittings worked for Brown Trailer Co. in Monmouth, Gunthers Construction in Galesburg, Ill., and, for a short time, worked as an iron worker. He also owned and operated a trucking business and farmed near LaHarpe since 1959.

He served in the Air Force from 1949 to 1953.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Rick Gittings of LaHarpe; one daughter, Kris Reische of LaHarpe; five grandchildren; and one great–granddaughter.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. today at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service Friday.

The funeral for Mr. Gittings will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home, with Robin Thompson officiating. Burial with military rites will be in LaHarpe Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for LaHarpe American Legion Post No. 301.

Bobby Henry

Bobby L. Henry, 73, of Woodhull, Ill., died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at his home.

Born Nov. 23, 1931, in Macomb, Ill., he was the son of Fredrick and Esther Gossage Henry. On Feb. 24, 1951, he married Phyllis J. Green in Macomb.

Mr. Henry was a self–employed milk hauler for 28 years. He then worked as a groundskeeper for the department of parks and recreation in Burlington.

He attended schools in Roseville, Ill., and Good Hope, Ill. He enjoyed fishing, professional wrestling, gardening and yard work.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sheryl Peterson of Woodhull and Kathy Cypert of Oswego, Ill.; two sons, Mike Henry of Woodhull and Duane Henry of Opheim, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great–grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Hensley of Burlington and Pat Yetter of LaHarpe, Ill.; and three brothers, Leon Henry of Oquawka, Ill., Larry Henry of Keithsburg, Ill., and Gary Henry of Carman, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Peterson–Wallin–Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull.

The funeral for Mr. Henry will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Peterson–Wallin–Knox Funeral Home. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in LaHarpe Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Glenn Nixon

A graveside service with military rites for Glenn E. Nixon, 80, of Lomax, Ill., who died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Crane Cemetery near Lomax, with the Rev. Bettyanna Bremer officiating. LaHarpe American Legion Post 301 will conduct the military rites.

A memorial has been established for Henderson County Home Health Care.

Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.

Freeda Lyons

Freeda Marsha Lyons, 86, of Burlington, died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 11, 1918, in Mark, she was the daughter of Sanford Ren Modrell and Nora Naomi Goode Modrell Dabney.

Mrs. Lyons was the owner and operator of Freeda's Beauty Salon for 50 years. She retired in 1994.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Burlington.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Chesmore of Woodland Park, Colo., and Gatsby "Terry Lyons" Diamond of Las Vegas; 10 grandchildren; 15 great–grandchildren; one stepbrother, Osro Dabney; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to the time of service today at First Baptist Church in Burlington.

The funeral for Mrs. Lyons will be at 10:30 a.m. today at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tyrone C. Henderson officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Mount Moriah Cemetery in rural Davis County, with the Rev. James H. Wakelin of Bloomfield Christian Church officiating.

A memorial has been established for First Baptist Church.
