Imogene `Jean' Wickersham
Imogene M. 'Jean' Wickersham, 72, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, with burial in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

Jean was born on April 18, 1931, in Galva, to Thomas and Margaret (Hinderlighter) Deffenbaugh. She married Wayne Wickersham. He preceded her in death in 1985. Jean worked as a nurses' aid and housekeeper. She was a member of Rock Island Conservation Club. She enjoyed crocheting,embroidery and fishing.

Jean is survived by her longtime companion, Lloyd Chester, Rock Island; daughters, LaVaughn Narbone, Rock Island, Michele Skiles, Moline; son Merlin Reynolds, Texas; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers.

Helen McMinn
Helen Waldorf McMinn, 91, of Moline died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Moline. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Moline.

Helen was born July 17, 1912, in Mendota, Ill., the daughter of Julius and Ella Faber Waldorf. She married Ralph H. McMinn on Dec. 22, 1945, in Mendota.

Helen was a graduate of the University of Illinois. She worked as a teacher in Morton, Ill., and was a retired home-extension advisor and adult-education clothing instructor in Rock Island and Henry counties.

Helen is survived by her husband; one son (and spouse), Tom (Christie) McMinn, Mattoon, Ill.; daughter, Joyce (Mitch) Strach, East Moline; four grandchildren, Katie (Jason) Gordon, Mattoon, Jonathan McMinn, Urbana, Ill., Debbie (Ken) Caulk, Lake in the Hills, Ill., and Lisa Nichols, Moline; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Margaret `Toots' Van Eechoute
Margaret 'Toots' Van Eechoute, 85, of East Moline, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003 at Illini Restorative Center, Silvis.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, where she was a member.

Margaret Versypt was born Feb. 3, 1918, in East Moline, the daughter of Isidoor and Marie (Praet) Versypt. She married Andrew 'Andy' Van Eechoute Oct. 10, 1940, in East Moline. He died in 1996. She attended St. Mary's School, East Moline. She had worked at the former American Machine & Metal, East Moline, until 1947. Margaret had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother.

Survivors include brother-in-law, Edward Van Eeuchoute of Arleta, Calif.; nieces and nephew and spouses, Mary and Bill Tiernan, East Moline: Joanne DeCoster, Bettendorf; John and Jan Versypt, Cordova. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, and three brothers.

Jane Riggs
Jane Riggs, 78, East Moline, died Sunday, September 28, 2003 at her home.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hampton Methodist Church.

Marilyn Jane Popp was born Sept. 16, 1925, in Davenport, the daughter of Arthur and Lettie Neuwerk Popp. She married George Riggs, June 25, 1945 in Rock Island. He died Oct. 11, 1999.

Mrs. Riggs enjoyed reading, crocheting and most of all time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law Deborah and David Millen, Jefferson City, Mo., and Connie and Frank Manning, Colona; grandchildren Kristen and Laura Millen and Brandy Manning; and brothers William Popp and Arthur Popp Jr., both of Bettendorf and Richard Popp, Chewelah, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Mark; sister, Helenjean Gillooley; and brothers, Donald and Kenneth Popp.

Richard Johnson
Richard Lee Johnson, 69, of Lynn Center died Sept. 28, 2003, at his home with his family by his side.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Orion United Methodist Church. Burial will be at National cemetery , Rock Island, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 246, Moline. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. Memorials may be made to lung cancer research or Orion United Methodist Church where he was an active member.

Richard was born May 3, 1934, in rural Buffalo Prarie, Ill., to Earl and Margie Cooper Johnson. He married Margaret Y. Swihart Larson July 3, 1963, in Alexis.

Richard was employed at Quad Cities Kenworth, Rock Island, for 20 years as a diesel mechanic, retiring in 1997. Richard was in the Air Force for 9 1/2 years.

Survivors (and spouses) are wife, Margaret; daughters, Lisa (Tom) Tacts, Coal Valley, Sandy (Jeff) McCready, Woodhull, Barbara (Charles) Anthony, Clay City, Ill.; sons, Richard Johnson Jr., Lynn Center, Robert Johnson, Erie; grandchildren, Beth McDowell, Bourbonnais, Ill., Aaron Anthony, Clay City, Andrew Anthony, Millersburg, Ky., Malorie and Marysa McCready, Woodhull, Tyler Johnson, Orlando; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Fay (Virginia) Johnson, Monmouth, Charles (Marilyn) Johnson, Alexis, Daryl (Barbara) Johnson, Rio, Delane (Janet) Johnson, East Moline, Frank (Pam) Johnson, Monticello, Iowa; and sister, Martha (Terry) Hudson, Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Keith Kempin
Keith D. Kempin, 50, of Galva, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at home.

Memorial services are 7 p.m. Friday at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Private inurnment is at Galva cemetery at a later date. Memorials to the family for a memorial to be established.

He was born Sept. 23, 1953, in Galesburg, to Harry and Margaret Hanlon Kempin.

He attended Galva schools and was a plumber and carpenter with Kempin Plumbing, Galva. He was a musician in the band, Blue Sky. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.

Survivors are his parents, Galva; brothers, Jim, White Bear Lake, Minn., Joe, DeKalb, and Kurt, Galva; seven nieces and nephews; and three great-nephews. He was preceded by his grandparents and brother, John.

Frances Oliver
Frances A. Oliver, 91, Aledo, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo. Arrangements are pending at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo.

Wilma `Butchie' Osborne
Wilma D. 'Butchie' Osborne, 76, Kewanee, died Sept. 28, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Ill.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Schueneman-Tumbleson, Kewanee. Burial is in Pleasant View cemetery , Kewanee. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

She was born in 1927. She married Raymond Osborne in 1946. He died in 1998.

Survivors are children, Raymond Jr., Pueblo, Colo., Thomas Sr., Springfield, Ill., Doris Rogers, Somonauk, Ill., Peggy Harper, Hales Corners, Wis.; Joe, John, Jackie Oberg and Diane Ruzas, all Kewanee; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three siblings.

Dena Wilkens
Dena Wilkens, 89, of Fulton, died Sept. 29, 2003, at Harbor Crest, Fulton.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bosma-Renkes, Fulton. Burial is in Fulton Township cemetery . Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Survivors are husband, Corneil; children, Darlene Hill, Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Beverly Cascio, Edgewood, Wash., Arnold, Clinton, Iowa, Larry, Springfield, Ill., Roger, Fulton; sisters, Jeannette Wilkens, Gertrude Van Zuiden, Alberta Brondyke, brother, Harold Klooster, all of Fulton; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Billy Billings
Billy Billings, 45, of Davenport died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Genesis West.

Family graveside services will be held at Glendale cemetery , LeClaire, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Memorials go to the American Cancer Society. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Oct. 30, 1957, in Davenport, to LeRoy and Emily Tichy Billings.

He worked in maintenance at Davenport Manor where he resided.

He enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife.

Survivors are his mother, Emily, LeClaire; sisters, Carolyn Ganiaris, Voorhees, N.J., and Kathleen Billings, Richfield, Minn.; and brother, Robert, St. Paul, Minn. He was preceded in death by a brother, Keith, and father, LeRoy.

Claretha Campbell
Claretha S. Campbell, 80, of Davenport, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Orr's Mortuary, Rock Island.

Mary Galbraith
Mary A. Galbraith, 60, Davenport, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Genesis East, Davenport.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Community Center, Meadow Crest Apartments, Davenport. Arrangements by McGinnis-Chambers, Bettendorf.

Mary was born Jan. 1, 1943.

Survivors include her mother, Faye E. Scholey, Davenport; her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Janice Scholey, Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren, Olivia and Jonathan; four brothers, including David and Roger Scholey, both of Davenport.

Tomas Liendo
Tomas Liendo Sr., 65, Davenport, passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Genesis West, Davenport.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Runge Mortuary. Burial is in Fairmount cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until service.

He was born Sept. 15, 1938. He married Virginia Wynos in 1961. She died in 1989.

Those surviving are 10 children including, Rosa Garcia, Muscatine, Iowa, Raul, Moline, Maria, Roberto, Tomas Jr. and Ricardo Liendo, all of Davenport; 37 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers; and three sisters.

Betty `Betty Boop' Marker
Betty Marker, 73, of Davenport, formerly of Moline, died Sept. 28, 2003, at home.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at McGinnis-Chambers, Bettendorf. Burial is in National cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday.

She was born in 1929 in Moline to Carl and Iva Anderson Johnson. She married Lloyd Marker in 1974. He died in 1979.

Survivors are daughters, Jacqueline Banks and Sheila Carrillo, both of Davenport, and Jody Andrews, Bettendorf; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

E. Ruth Robbins
Services for Ethel Ruth Robbins, 77, Bettendorf, are 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Davenport Memorial Park cemetery Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Runge, Davenport.

She died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Bettendorf Health Care Center.

She was born March 2, 1926, in Davenport, to Ora and Norman Wilson Sr. She married William F. Robbins April 21, 1949, in Iowa City.

Survivors are her daughter, Julie Mooney, Bettendorf; son, Gary Robbins, Davenport; her ex-husband; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Jacqueline Evans, Davenport, and Beverly Duncan, Bettendorf.

Alvin Rodenburg
Alvin Rodenburg, 87, of Davenport died Sept. 28, 2003, at Davenport Lutheran Home.

No services or visitation will be held. Memorials go to American Cancer Society. Runge Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Nov. 29, 1915, in Walcott, Iowa, to Charles and Tillie Wulf Rodenburg. He married Juanita Pehmiller in 1945 in Davenport.

He worked at Builders Sales and Service, Moline, retiring in 1980.

Survivors are wife; daughter, Sandra Albritton, Davenport; brothers, Charles and Vic, Davenport; and brother-in-law, Ed Lenninger.

Edna Sherman
Edna Sherman, 84, Davenport, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at Bettendorf Health Care Center.

Mass is 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park cemetery . Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

She was born in 1918. She married Laurence Sherman in 1936. He died in 1979.

Survivors include son, Larry Sherman, Bettendorf; two grandsons, including Lance Sherman, Bettendorf; granddaughter, Anne Sherman, Chicago; and two great-grandchildren.
