Gary Genung
Gary Genung, 44, of Davenport lost a courageous battle with multiple myeloma on Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Gary's home, 505 Sturdevant, Davenport. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the family.
Gary Allen Genung was born Jan. 24, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Dorothy Johnson Genung. He married
Julia Rials in Davenport.
He had worked at Oscar Mayer for the last three years.
He served in the U.S Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Julia, Davenport; son, Christopher Genung, Arizona; stepdaughters, Bobbie Rials, Arizona, and Rebecca Linnabery, Davenport; eight grandchildren; brother, Dan Tusing and his wife, Barb, Woodhull, Ill.; and sister, JoAnn Wade, Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Jim and Bob Genung.
Lawrence Kessler
Services for Lawrence Kessler, 75, Davenport, are 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.
Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, with a prayer service at 5.
He died Sept. 25, 2003, at Genesis East.
Survivors are wife Ruth; children Cindi Erbst, Blue Grass, Iowa, Linda Ross, Moreno Valley, Calif., Melissa Clampitt and Dennis Kessler, San Clemente, Calif., and Michael Kessler, Spokane, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, including Dolores Wilson, Davenport.
Henry `Hank' Kritter
Henry 'Hank' Kritter, 71, of Bettendorf died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at his home.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Davenport. Burial is in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Milwaukee, Wis.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday at Weerts, Davenport.
He was born July 19, 1932, the son of Laura Church and Carl Kritter. He married
Beverly Hayne Nov. 23, 1957, in Milwaukee.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Sheila Wier, Bettendorf, and Dana Oade, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandsons, three brothers and one sister.
Suzanne Curry
Suzanne S. Curry, 74, of the Broadway Historic District, Rock Island, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
In accordance with her wishes, her body has been donated to science. There will be no services. Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, handled arrangements.
Suzanne was born Oct. 20, 1929, in Santa Monica, Calif., daughter of William Conrad and Mary Harriet Patricia Powers Singer. She attended UCLA and earned her bachelor of science in 1952. On May 20, 1957, she married
Gordon L. Clemmons in Las Vegas, Nev. He preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1974. On July 2, 1976, she married
Jack J. Curry in St. Joseph, Mo. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2000.
Since moving to Rock Island in 1988, Suzanne had served her community on both the Rock Island County Historical Society and the Rock Island Preservation Society as well as many state and national historic preservation organizations. At least 15 Landmark designations can be attributed to Suzanne's research and hard work.
She was very active with the annual Mother's Day tour of homes in Broadway, as well as Chippiannock cemetery 's 'Epitaphs Brought to Life' program. In 2001, she was recognized with a Local Preservation Award from the Illinois Association of Historic Preservation Commissions. Suzanne was also very active in the local chapter of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
She is survived by her work and her many close and loving friends who will miss her.
Margaret Odell
Margaret I. Odell, 89, formerly of Walnut and Bradford, Ill., died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at her apartment in Rock Island.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Garland Funeral Home, Walnut. Burial is in Walnut cemetery . Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Walnut Fire Department.
She was born July 7, 1914, in Tiskilwa, Ill., to Lud and Mary Burrell Sterling. She married
Charles Odell March 3, 1932, in Chatham, Ill. He died Jan. 20, 1999.
She was a member of Walnut United Methodist Church.
Survivors (and spouses) are her son, Charles, Bradford; daughter, Lori (Doug) McCollum, Rock Island; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Mildred Yepsen, Ellenton, Fla., and Mabel Braasch, Wyanet, Ill.
Georgia Thomas
Georgia E. Thomas, 73, of Rock Island, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Chippiannock cemetery , Rock Island. A wake will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Georgia was born April 1, 1930, in Mounds, Ill., daughter of George and Lucille Buggs Caldwell. She married
Edward Thomas Dec. 27, 1949, in Arkansas. He died Oct. 4, 1985.
She was a janitor with Sears, Davenport, and retired in 1988 after many years of service.
She was a member of O.E.S. and, formerly, Second Baptist Church, both in Rock Island. She enjoyed fishing, cooking and watching movies.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Lillie Thomas, Moline, and Elliott and Cheryl Thomas, Aurora, Ill.; grandchildren, Shawn, Damiean, Octavia, Keesha, Heather, Ellisha, Cory and Joshua; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Kat Caldwell, Chicago, and Darlene Caldwell, Mounds; brother, Tony Caldwell, Mounds; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Georgia was preceded in death by a son, Edward Jr..

Florence Brumas, 80, of Moline, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island.

Donald `Whitey' Clark
Donald Edward 'Whitey' Clark, 74, of Moline, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
He was born July 25, 1929, in Geneseo, son of Edward and Margaret Clark. He married
Barbara Fox Feb. 25, 1955, in Rock Island.
Donald was an Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.
He worked at International Harvester, East Moline, retiring in 1983 after 34 years of service.
Donald was a member of the Moline Vikings, an avid Cardinals fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Barbara Clark, Moline; daughters, Donna Clark, Colona, Karen Finley, Davenport; sisters, JoAnn Evans, Matherville, Patricia Skidmore, California; grandchildren, Sandy Clark (Tim Dickinson), Colona, Janet (Troy) Greene, Coal Valley, Brian Finley, Davenport; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Greene, Andrew Finley and Stacey Clark.

R. Olga Dismer, 82, of Bluffdale, Utah, formerly of Moline, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, in Sandy, Utah.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with a rosary at 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Riverbend Food Bank.
Rita Olga Cristani was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Paris, France, to Remo and Marie-Louise Angelin-Duclos Cristani. She married
Raymond H. Dismer on June 3, 1946, in Paris. He preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 1995.
Olga was employed by Deere & Co. for 14 years as a bilingual administrative assistant. She retired in 1982.
Olga was of Catholic faith. She enjoyed reading, English films and comedies, sewing, knitting, art and traveling.
Survivors (and spouses) include her daughter, Rita (Douglas) Collins, Salt Lake City, Utah; grandchildren, Leslie (Bill) Mulloy, Spanish Fork, Utah, Elizabeth Lefevre, Sacramento, Calif., Sara (Al) Anderson, Salt Lake City, Ben (Renee) Collins, Doug Collins, and Michael Collins, all of Provo, Utah; and five great-grandchildren.
Frances Voltz
Frances Z. Voltz, 84, of Moline, formerly of East Moline, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Forest Hill Health and Rehab Center, East Moline.
Graveside services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a liturgy service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Frances Virginia Zeller was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Maumee, Ohio, daughter of Charles Conrad and Mary Ellen Slevin Zeller. She was schooled in St. Joseph Parochial School, Maumee, and graduated from Perrysburg, Ohio, Public High School. She then attended Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, for three years.
When World War II began, she went to work in the office of Thompson Products, Cleveland, Ohio, and worked until the end of war.
Frances was joined in marriage to Edward J. Voltz July 24, 1943, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilmington, N.C.
She was president of the John Deere Grade School PTA in East Moline for two years in the late 1960s.
Frances was a very caring and capable wife and mother who loved her children and grandchildren very much.
Frances is survived by her husband; sons and daughter-in-law, John E. Voltz, Moline, Daniel C. and Theresa Voltz, Wooster, Ohio; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and James Rogers, Centennial, Colo., Mary Hough, East Moline, Barbara and Thomas Zaragoza, Rapids City, Andrea Ellen Voltz, Carbon Cliff; grandchildren, Ellen Taylor, Jessica Zaragoza, Daniel Hough, Andrew Voltz, Conrad Voltz and Christopher Zaragoza; nephews, Donald and Jack Phfleghaar, both of Maumee. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gladys, Elva, Hazel and Mary Ellen; brothers, Harry and Grafton.

Orberlin Perivan, 26, of East Moline, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at home.
Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. today at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Services and burial will be in Mexico. Memorials may be made to the family.
Orberlin was born Aug. 30, 1977, in Mexico.
He was employed at Nancy's Pies, Rock Island.
Survivors include his father, Asuncion Perivan, Mexico; sisters, Cynthia Reyes, East Moline, Silvia and Rosy, Mexico; brothers, Ricardo and Asuncion, East Moline, and Ramiro and Rolando, Mexico; seven nieces and nephews in East Moline; and eight nieces and nephews in Mexico.
Gilberto Rivera
Gilberto Rivera, 26, of East Moline, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at his home.
Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. today at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Funeral services and burial will be held later this week in Mexico.
Gilberto was born Jan. 14, 1977, in Amatito Neblinas Guerrero, Mexico, to Francisco and Amelia Alvarez Rivera.
He was currently employed at West Liberty Foods, West Liberty, Iowa.
He is survived by his parents in Mexico; brothers, Adan, East Moline, Herman and Rudolfo, both in California; and sisters, Margarita and Socorro, both of Chicago, and Reyna, Julia, Norberta, Cecilia and Estella, all in Mexico.
Marilyn Gill
Services for Marilyn D. Gill, 79, of Coal Valley, are 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, with the Rev. Janice Griffith of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, officiating.
Private family burial will be Tuesday morning in Erie cemetery . Memorials may be made to the Rock Island County No-Kill Animal Shelter.
Mrs. Gill died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at her residence.
The former Marilyn Dawn Burris was born April 16, 1924, in Erie, daughter of Carl and Doris Burris. She married
Gerald Gill in Rock Island in 1954. He preceded her in death in 1959.
Mrs. Gill retired after many years as a secretary from John Deere Harvester works in East Moline. She volunteered her time to many organizations, including the cancer unit at Trinity Medical Center, as a greeter at the Quad City Airport and as a reader at the Coal Valley Library. Marilyn took care of her mother-in-law, Gladys Anderson, up to the time of her death. She was also a lover of all animals.
Mrs. Gill's family includes her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kathy Gill, Lakebay, Wash.; a grandson, Jesse Allingham, and granddaughter, Emily Allingham, both of Havre-De Grace, Md.; and a cousin, Karen Millington, Flower Mound, Texas.
