Stewart V.N. Wagher, 75, Galva, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Washington Manor, Kenosha, Wis.

Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Burial is in Westfall cemetery , Victoria, Ill., with military rites. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Rux.

He was born Dec. 28, 1927, in Victoria to Victor and Mabel Stewart Wagher. He married Patricia Miller June 5, 1960, in Galesburg. She died Oct. 17, 1989.

He is survived by his sons, Victor, Bowie, Md., Harold, Rolla, Mo., Duane, Akron, Ohio; daughters, Cynthia Carroll, Sault St. Marie, Mich., Debra Kuper, Kenosha; eight grandchildren; brother, Philip Wagher, Raleigh, N.C.; sisters, Berniece Davis, Joyce Ream, both of Galesburg, Norma Johnson, Rocklin, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley.

Gertrude Brower
Gertrude Brower, 83, of Bettendorf, formerly of Pella, Iowa, died Dec. 4, 2003 at Genesis West, Davenport.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at First Reformed Church, Pella. Burial is in Forrest cemetery , Oscaloosa, Iowa. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. to service time. Runge, Davenport, is handling arrangements.

She was born April 4, 1920, to Delis and Berdina Vruegh Sterk. She married Virgil Brower in December 1945. They later divorced.

Survivors include her sons, Leon Brower, Bettendorf, Jeff Brower, Paola, Kan.; and five grandchildren.

Christine Foulks
Christine M. Foulks, 89, of Davenport, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Bettendorf Health Care.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Phyllis Geist
Phyllis Geist, 78, of Pleasant Valley, died Dec. 5, 2003, at home.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran, Pleasant Valley. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Runge, Davenport.

She was born June 3, 1925, in Brookings, S.D., to Lawrence and Agnes Piersall. She married Delbert Geist in 1942.

Survivng are her daughters, Billie Lange, Bettendorf, Twilla Harris, Donna Anderson, both of Davenport; sons, Mark Geist, Pleasant Valley, Michael Geist, Emington, Ill.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Eugene Piersall, Colona, and Edward Berger, Davenport.

Carol Havenhill
Carol Havenhill, 42, of Princeton, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at her home following an extended illness.

Arrangements are pending at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.

Alberta Pahl
Alberta C. Pahl, 96, a resident of the Countryhouse in Davenport, formerly of Bettendorf, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at her residence.

Arrangements are pending at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.

Aaron Sissel
Spc. Aaron James Sissel, 22, of Tipton, Iowa, gave his life on Nov. 29, 2003, while serving his country in Iraq.

Services for Aaron Sissel will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Tipton Middle School gymnasium with the Rev. DeLane Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Tipton Masonic cemetery with full military graveside rites. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, also in the Tipton Middle School gym.

A memorial fund has been established for Aaron. Contributions may be sent to the Spc. Aaron J. Sissel Memorial Fund, c/o Federal Employee's Credit Union, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 601 U.S. 6 West, Iowa City, Iowa 52240.

Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, is assisting Aaron's family and the Iowa Army National Guard with funeral arrangements.

Aaron was born Feb. 14, 1981, son of Kirk and JoAllyn McQuillen Sissel. He graduated with the Tipton High School class of 1999. Aaron was an active student, participating in FFA, football and baseball.

He was also an avid stock car and NASCAR fan, Michigan Wolverine and Iowa Hawkeye fan, and had a great love for bowling.

Aaron enlisted in the Iowa National Guard on Sept. 26, 1996. He was currently assigned to the Iowa Army National Guard's 2133rd Transportation Company, headquartered in Centerville, with detatchments in Muscatine and Cedar Rapids.

Aaron is survived by his mother, Jo Sissel, his father, Kirk Sissel, and wife, Cindy, his sister, Shanna, all of Tipton; his grandparents, Lyle and Maurine McQuillen, Bennett, Iowa, and George and Peggy Sissel, DeWitt, Iowa; and his great-grandmother, Luella Goodale, Mechanicsville, Iowa.

He is also survived by his fiancee, Spc. Kari N. Prellwitz, who is of New Hampton, Iowa, but is currently serving her country with the Iowa Army National Guard in Iraq.

Blanche Wilming
Blanche C. Wilming, 90, of Davenport, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at her home.

Georgia E. Thomas, 73, of Rock Island died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Wanda Blomgren
Wanda J. Blomgren, 76, of Moline died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at her home.

Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline, with services at 5 p.m. Further arrangements are pending.

Helen McCarthy
Helen M. McCarthy, 86, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Norlite Nursing Center, Marquette, Mich.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Beardstown (Ill.) City cemetery . DeRoo, Moline, is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Children's Therapy Center.

She was born Dec. 8, 1916, in Beardstown, the daughter of Eugene and Mildred Bernard Peters.

She owned Queens Parlour, Moline, for 20 years, from 1970 to 1990. She also managed Cassie's Beauty Salon, Rock Island.

Helen was a member of the National Cosmetology Association and Northwestern Affiliate No. 4. She was a proud supporter of Crippled Children and Adults of R.I. County, now Children's Therapy Center.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Bernard Peters, Marquette, and Marilyn and Robert Anders, Zionsville, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Ausmus. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. McCarthy, son, Wilbur W. Smith, and sister, Anita Douglas.

Leona Pearson
Services for Leona M. Pearson, 91, of Moline are 9:30 a.m. Saturday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in Memorial Park cemetery , Rock Island.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Parkview Terrace Activity Center.

She died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Leona was born Sept. 1, 1912, in Cambridge, the daughter of Earl and Sadie Nelson Kepple. She married Richard Pearson on June 15, 1932, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death in 1973.

Mrs. Pearson retired from the former Meadowbrook Candy Factory, Moline.

Mrs. Pearson enjoyed crocheting, working in her yard and watching the wildlife.

Survivors include sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Max Taylor, Moline, Hazel and Lester Taylor, East Moline, Myrtle Walker, Rock Island, and Rhoda and Ben Runyon, Moline; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.

Mary Schaeffer
Mary Alice Schaeffer, 70, of Moline died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at her home.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30. Further arrangements are pending.

D. Marie Lapsey
D. Marie Lapsey, 79, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of East Moline, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Manor Care, Hinsdale, Ill.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Fund.

Marie Lapsey was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Lovilia, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd Garrison and Ellen Olevia Nelson Hogeland. She married William H. Lapsey on Oct. 18, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on Sept. 15, 1991.

Marie started her career at Modern Woodman of America, serving as Harry Hoffman's secretary for five years. She then was employed at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. in the accounting department as a secretary. She later worked at the International Harvester sales office in the accounting department. She was also active in the real-estate field, retiring as a licensed Realtor.

Marie was a former member of Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline, and a former member of the United Medical Center (Moline) Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of King's Daughters and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors (and spouses) are her son, William L. (Kay) Lapsey, Burr Ridge, Ill.; daughters, Dorothy Jean (David) Mueller, Moline, and Nancy Marie Lapsey, Sarasota; grandchildren, Jennifer Drake and Christopher Lapsey; great-grandchildren, Will Lapsey, Luke Lapsey, Holt Lapsey and C.J. Lapsey; and brother, Leroy (Dorothy Lynn) Hogeland, Lovilia. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Dolorez `Dee' Caffery
Dolorez Maryllin 'Dee' Caffery of Milan died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at River Park Heath Care Center, Rock Island.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. The Rev. Ed Kuriscak will officiate. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Dee was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Ottawa, Ill., to Violet Rose Booth. She married Orville E. Caffery Sept. 12, 1964, in Rock Island. He died Sept. 1, 2001.

Dee loved flowers, classic country and western music, and animals. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and a Civil War buff.

Dee was a watiress for 55 years, working in downtown Rock Island at The Toasty, Carters and the Sheraton.

Survivors (and spouses) include her sisters-in-law, Jean (Richard) Anderson, Matherville, Patricia (Charles) Cullett, Rock Island, and Ruth Munch, Rock Island; and dear friends, Joyce and Dean Lundberg, Orion. She was preceded in death by her mother; husband; son, Rolleen, in 1968; sister, Joyce, and sister-in-law, Helen Janecke.

Lyle Bryner
Lyle L. Bryner, 83, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Kewanee, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at the Georgeson House/Hospice of Naples in Naples, Fla.

Arrangements are pending at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee.

Ethel Johnson
Ethel L. Johnson, 89, of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Kewanee, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at her home.

Dorothy Kautz
Dorothy J. Kautz, 79, of Kewanee died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Ill.
