Lawrence H. 'Larry' Smith Jr., 55, of Davenport, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Fairmount cemetery , Davenport. Further arrangements are pending at Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

Robert Bladel
Robert L. 'Bob' Bladel, 84, of Rock Island, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at his home.

Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in the National cemetery , Arsenal Island, with military honors conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.

Bob was born July 4, 1919, in Rock Island, to Louis Earl and Magdalana Barlang Bladel. Mr. Bladel married Patricia Dean Oct. 23, 1948, in Ottawa, Ill.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1946. Bob worked as a scheduler for John Deere & Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1979. He was a resident of Rock Island all of his life.

Mr. Bladel was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was a faithful usher, member of the Allouez Council 658 Knights of Columbus, Moline American Legion 246, Rock Island Moose Lodge 190, Moline Elks 556.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; children (and spouses), Dean (Laura) Bladel, Glen Ellyn, Ill., Kathy (David) Shambrook, Bloomington, Debbie (Chris) Lyle, Rock Island, Dodi (Joe) Jackson, Bradenton, Fla., Jim (Cathy) Bladel, Greenville, N.C., and Nancy (Walter) Chamberlain, Rock Island; grandchildren, Ashlee (Arnold) Bliss, Kelli Arnold, Amanda Shambrook, Cassie Karr, Mike and Andy Lyle, Tiffani, Matt and Robbie Bladel, Courtney Bladel Brown, Shawn Bladel, Tia, Lyndi and Deana Chamberlain; 15 great-grandchildren. Bob is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Neubauer and Eileen Kelly; a brother, Louis Bladel Jr.; two sons-in-law, Robert 'Rob' Karr and Rick Arnold; and grandson, Dominique Chamberlain.

Ryan Kaatz
Ryan William Kaatz, 20, of Woodridge, Ill., died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at home, after a 3-month battle with cancer.

The body has been cremated, and memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Willowcreek Community Church, Barrington, Ill., where he was a member. Memorials may be made for neurofibromatosis research to Illinois NF, Inc. P.O. Box 1923 Lombard, IL, 60148.

Ryan was born Nov. 27, 1983, in Oak Park, Ill., the son of Kevin and Jane Appier Kaatz. He graduated from Downers Grove South High School and was a student at Judson College, Elgin, Ill.

Survivors are his parents, Kevin and Jane Kaatz, Woodridge; grandparents, William and Jean Appier, Rock Island; stepgrandparent, Richard Prince, St. Charles, Ill.; uncles and aunts, Bradley Appier, Lake-in-the-Hills, Ill., Mike Kaatz, Paula Sund and Penny Childs, all of St. Charles; and eight cousins.

Equilla Wallace
Services for Equilla Jones Wallace, 90, Rock Island, are 1 p.m. Thursday at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline, with the Rev. P.W. Harrris officiating. Visitation is noon to service time. Private graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday in Carbon Cliff cemetery .

She died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

She was born May 1, 1913, in Hugo, Okla., to Geneva Hollis. She married Windom Jones in 1950 in Chicago. He preceded her in death. She married Cornelius Wallace in 1964. He preceded her in death.

She worked at the Conrad Hilton in Chicago. She also worked for the Milwaukee railroad, retiring in 1962.

She was a member of the Progressive Baptist Church, Davenport.

She enjoyed fishing, yard salesand cherished her grandchildren.

Survivors (and spouses) are her son, Windom (Deborah) Jones, East Moline; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; close friends, Mary Haslam, East Moline, and Josephine Jackson, Davenport. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Porter.

Mary Letterman
Mary J. Letterman, 98, East Moline, formerly of Moline and Rock Island, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church, Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a Christian wake service at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Believers Together.

Mary was born Feb. 8, 1905, in Zwyndrect, Belgium, the daughter of Maurice and Johanna Batens VanVooren. She married Basiel Strobbe March 5, 1927, in East Moline. He preceded her in death April 1940. She married Winser Letterman Sept. 15, 1956, in Rock Island. He died September 1980.

Mary retired in 1972, from the former Franciscan Hospital, Rock Island, after 23 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Maureen Klansek, Moline; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by sons, Robert and Frederick Strobbe; and a grandson, John Strobbe.

Joanne Marjanick
Memorial services for Joanne Marjanick, 67, Port St. Lucie, Fla., formerly of Cordova and Moline, are at a later date at National cemetery , Arsenal Island. The body will be cremated. Arrangements are by Cunnick-Collins, Davenport.

She died Nov. 26, 2003, in Port St. Lucie, Stuart, Fla.

Survivors are her husband, John, Marlette, Mich.; children, Bradley Sicari, Sunrise, Fla., Frank Moses and Melissa Getman, Davenport, Brenda Appleby, Grand Mound; parents, Walter and Ruth Dahl Fichtner; brother, Walter Fichtner, Davenport; a sister; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Sherri Mulcahy
Sherri A. Mulcahy, 58, of Moline, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, in Illini Hospital, Silvis, after a lengthy illness.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

The former Sherri Ann Bishop was born Jan. 11, 1945, in Pensacola, Fla., the daughter of William and Agnes (Taylor) Bishop. She graduated from Moline High School and attended Black Hawk College. She married Richard R. Mulcahy July 13, 1968, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Sherri was employed by Deere & Co, for 28 years, retiring as clerk and production scheduler at John Deere Harvester Works in 1994 due to ill health. She enjoyed music and attending concerts and sporting events, especially her daughter Kelly's softball games in high school, college and ASA.

Sherri is survived by her husband, Richard; her daughter, Kelly Mulcahy, Rock Island; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Susan Bishop, Moline, and Sandra and David Vancura, Naperville, Ill.; a nephew, Andrew Vancura, Naperville; and very very special friends, Vickie and Gene Furr and Karla and Don McFarland, all of Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Edna Stodt
Edna Silversmet Stodt, 82, of Moline died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Palm Garden of Largo, Fla.

No services are planned. Arrangements are by Memorial Park, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Mrs. Stodt was born Dec. 29, 1920, the daughter of Rene and Alida Silversmet. She was married to William Stodt for 49 years preceding his death in 1994.

Edna enjoyed bingo and could make anything grow in her gardens. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Moline.

Survivors include nieces, Sharon Schultz, Milan, and Deborah Polchow, Des Moines; and nephews, James Silversmet and Rick Silversmet, both of Moline. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; mother and father, Rene and Alida Silversmet; and her brother, Albert Silversmet.

Brandon Crane
Brandon Michael Crane, the infant son of Christopher and Brandi Geilenkirchen Crane, East Moline, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with visitation 9 a.m. to services.

Further arrangements are pending.

John `BJ' Smith
John 'BJ' Smith, 20, of Coal Valley, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at his home.

Services are 7 p.m. Friday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

BJ was born April 11, 1983, in Davenport, the son of Dena Smith and John Walker. He married Kimberly Bowser Jan. 31, 2002, in Rock Island.

He was a roofer and enjoyed outdoor activities like boating and tubing but, most of all, hunting and fishing. Last April, he received notoriety for catching a 38-pound catfish in the Rock River. BJ also loved his children very much.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly; daughter, Hannah; son, Jonathon; mother, Dena (Gordon) Dickerson, Georgetown, S.C.; father, John Walker III; maternal grandfather, Gerald Smith, Monroe, Mich; paternal grandmother, Juanita Walker, Milan; sister, Elizabeth Dickerson, brothers, Cody Smith and Joshua Dickerson, stepbrothers, Gordon Jr. and Gabriel Dickerson, all of Georgetown; and special friends, Gloria Acuff, Coal Valley, Kris Barrette and Jody Coffman, both of Milan.

Harden Johnston
Harden L. Johnston, 85, of Milan, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Burial is in Preemption cemetery , where military honors will be presented by Reynolds American Legion Post 1166. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Mr. Johnston was born June 10, 1918, in Brookport, Ill., the son of Lester and Princa Owens Johnston. He married Alice M. Liphardt Jan. 4, 1947, in Reynolds. She died Feb. 13, 1986.

Harden had farmed for more than 50 years in the rural Milan area. He had also served as the Bowling Township road commissioner for 14 years.

He was a World War II Army veteran. Harden was a member of Milan Christian Church and Reynolds American Legion Post 1166. He especially loved his family and spending time with them.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, James and Vicki Johnston, Milan, Robert and Christie Johnston, Milan, Susan Orwig, Aurora, Colo., and Charles 'Bud' Adkins, Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Shelly Adkins and Chad Orwig; stepgrandchildren, Angie Gillette, Susan Robinson and Don Gillette; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Trent Johnston; and a sister, Audrey Schmooke.

Marilyn Cox
Graveside services with full military honors for Marilyn Thorngren Cox, 71, were Nov. 25 in Ames, Okla., cemetery . Memorials may be made through Henninger-Allen Funeral Home, Enid, Okla., to Oklahoma Lung Association.

She died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, Enid.

She was born May 26, 1932, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Norton and Ruth DeCamp Kleist.

She joined the Women's Army Corps in 1950 and was a cryptographer at the Pentagon before her honorable discharge. In 1973, she moved to Shreveport, La., then moved to Enid in 2002.

Surviving are a daughter, Shari Munkres, Ames; two sons, Steve, New York, and Brian, Shreveport; a brother, Dan Thorngren, Silvis; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded by a son and a brother.

Ellen Crampton
Services for Ellen Teros Crampton, 86, of Silvis, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Burial will be in the National cemetery , Arsenal Island.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.

Mrs. Crampton died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at her home.

Ellen Teros was born May 7, 1917, in Davenport, the daughter of William and Eftihia Sacopoulos Teros. She married Jack Crampton Dec. 18, 1944, in Milan. He died Dec. 4, 1986.

She retired from the former East Moline State Hospital as a dietary supervisor. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jim Mankowski, Sarasota, Fla.; sons, John and Susan Crampton, Hampton, Peter Crampton, Silvis; grandsons, John and Joshua Crampton; sisters, Angeline Teros, East Moline, and Bessy Mack, Coal Valley. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Jean Camey
Jean E. Camey, 83, of Kewanee, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Provena Mercy Center, Aurora, Ill.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Kewanee, where she was a member. Burial is in Mount Olivet Cemtery, Kewanee. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee.

Mrs. Camey was born May 12, 1920, in Hancock, Mich., to Gordon and Ethel Funkey McCurdy. She married Bernard W. Camey Dec. 26, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wis. He died Dec. 1, 1997.

Surviving are her sons, John, Sacramento, Calif., and Robert, Aurora, Ill.; daughters, Diane Kitterman, Winters, Calif., and Carol Camey, San Bruno, Calif.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother Robert McCurdy, Racine, Wis.; and sister, Margaret Murphy, Newark, Ohio.

Charles Griffith
Charles Griffith, 89, of Aledo, formerly of New Boston, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.

Graveside services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Peniel cemetery , Joy. Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Mercer County VFW Post 1571.

He was born in 1914 in Abingdon Township, to Albert and Mary Doud Griffith. He married Betty Smith Bresley Dec. 25, 1950, in Joy.

He was a World War II Naval veteran, having served in the Pacific theater. He farmed in Abingdon Township, retiring in 1976.

Survivors are his wife; children, Patricia Greer, Aledo, and Steven, Monmouth; stepson, Terry Bresley, Joliet, Ill.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
