Sherri A. Mulcahy, 58, of Moline died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, after a lengthy illness.

Arrangements are pending at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline.

Survivors include her husband, Richard, and daughter, Kelly.

Damon Schalk
Damon James Schalk, infant son of Amanda Schalk, Moline, and Johnny Jackson, Colona, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Ill.

Graveside services are 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline. Arrangements are by DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline.

He was born Oct. 26, 2003, in Peoria.

Survivors include his parents; sisters, Attilysse and Annabelle, and twin brother, Aydan, all at home; grandparents, Pamela Schalk, Moline, Michael Schalk, Matherville, Mary Jackson, Colona, and John Gryp, Colona; and great-grandparents, Mary and Harold Smith, Matherville, Bob and Fern Schalk, Andalusia, and Florence Jackson, Wilton, Iowa.

Antonia `Toni' Sierra Reyes
Antonia 'Toni' Sierra Reyes, 68, of Silvis died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline.

Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, with a rosary at 5:30 p.m.

She was born Oct. 29, 1935, in Davenport, the daughter of Louis T. and Theresa Terronez Sierra.

Antonia -- 'Toni, ' as she was called by many who knew her -- was employed 33 years at Project NOW community-action agency in Rock Island. She currently held the title of manager for the LIHEAP program. She began as an outreach worker for the agency in 1970.

Toni, who spoke fluent Spanish, became the first bilingual outreach worker in the area. She was instrumental in many of the programs initiated by the agency. She was in charge of the summer-nutrition program for children of low-income groups. She also headed the winterization program, designed to help needy families meet the cost of skyrocketing fuel bills.

Toni was always given the task of setting the ground rules for a new program, and then she would train staff to continue the task.

Her involvement in the community previously included being a member of the Rock Island County Council on Alcoholism, Concerned Citizens of Silvis, El Comite and Silvis Bilingual Board, and she served as a hearing officer for the Greater Metropolitan Area Housing Authority.

For Toni Reyes, 'reaching out' to help others was more than just a job, it was a commitment.

She enjoyed Mexican music, traveling, football, and baseball, and she loved shopping for anyone she loved. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She will be so missed.

Survivors include her daughter and spouse, Geri and Michael Garcia, East Moline; son and spouse Mark and Mona Reyes, Moline; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jerome, Jerred, Anthony, Jeannette and Aaron; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Saucedo, Guadalupe Campos and J. Teresa Cervantes; brother, M. John Sierra; and mother, Theresa Sierra.

She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Sierra Sr.; brother, Louis Sierra Jr.; and sister, Mary Lou Trujillo.

Margaret Reyes
Margaret A. Reyes, 81, of Milan died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island, where she was a member. Burial will be in Holy Family cemetery , Davenport.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Margaret was born April 10, 1922, in Dodge City, Kan., the daughter of Leocadeo and Maceala Lopez Segura. She attended Brown's Business College, Rock Island. Margaret married Timothy P. Reyes on Nov. 14, 1950, in Iowa City, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1952.

She retired in 1975 from Project NOW, Rock Island.

Surviving are her sisters, Leona Flores, Milan, Leila Flores, Rock Island, and Amelia Neff, Rock Island; brothers, Rudolph 'Bob' Segura, Davenport, and Raymond Segura, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Albert, Manirel, Sam and Dan Segura; and sister, Lucy Simmons.

John `BJ' Smith
John 'BJ' Smith, 20, of Coal Valley died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at his home.

Services are 7 p.m. Friday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where further arrangements are pending.

Gertrude Cross
Gertrude E. Cross, 86, of New Boston died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.

Graveside services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Millersburg cemetery . Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Dennison Funeral Home, Aledo, handled arrangements.

She was born Jan. 18, 1917, in Illinois City, the daughter of James and Lena Herberly Simpson. She married Charles Cross Oct. 11, 1932, in Aledo. He died Sept. 3, 1988.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing with her husband. She also enjoyed flowers.

Surviving are cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters and three brothers.

Robert Davis Sr.
Robert L. Davis Sr., 75, of Kewanee died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at home.

Cremation rites have been accorded; there will be no services. Private inurnment will be at a later date at National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee, handled arrangements.

He was born Jan. 22, 1928, in Glen Dean, Ky., to Ollie and Nancy Dora Langley Davis. He married Laura Lee Eichelberger Dec. 15, 2000, in Kewanee.

He worked at Streator (Ill.) Dependable. He was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors are his wife; children, Robert Jr., James and Katie Walker, all of Bloomington, Ill.; and a sister, Anna Mae Murrell, Lockport, N.Y. He was preceded in death by a brother, James; a sister, Maude; a son, Robert; and two children in infancy.

Loretta Goodell
Loretta Goodell, 78, Fulton, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at University Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Memorial services are 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bosma-Renkes, Fulton. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. There is no visitation.

She was born Aug. 1, 1925, to Orin and June Smith. She married Glen Goodell. He died Sept. 15.

Survivors are sons, Terry and Darrell, both of Fulton, Randy Scheff, Trimont, Minn., Gary Scheff, Welcome, Minn., and Dennis Scheff, Sherburn, Minn.; several grandchildren; a sister, Laura Harris, Sioux City, Iowa; and a brother, Stanley Smith, Deer Creek, Minn.

Betty Holder
Services for Betty S. Holder, 68, of Colona will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at The Gospel Lighthouse Church of God, Colona. Entombment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, East Moline. A reception following the services will be held at the Colona American Legion Hall.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at Family Funeral Services, Colona.

She died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Betty was born Oct. 4, 1935, in Bald Knob, Ark., the daughter of Elmer and Lee Hendrix Herrell. She married Earle Junior Holder on Dec. 12, 1949, in Searcey, Ark. He preceded her in death in 1994.

She was a homemaker and was employed at the former Servus Rubber Co., Rock Island, retiring from its successor, Norcross, in 1995. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, reading and gardening.

Survivors (and spouses) are her son, David Holder and friend Almeta Hageman, Colona; daughters, Tina Dutton, Rock Island, Terry (Jerry) Lampo, Hot Springs, Ark., and Yvonne (Tim) Murphy, Jessieville, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Bobby Herrell, Kingland, Ariz., and Carl Herrell, Hot Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Ray and Herbert Herrell.

John Larson Sr.
John A. Larson Sr., 64, of Port Byron died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at his home.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born Sept. 3, 1939, in Moline to Albert and Margaret Scherer Larson. He served in the Navy during the Korean War.

He was a welder for John Deere Harvester, East Moline.

He loved animals, racing, fishing, hunting, water skiing and ice fishing. He was a past president of East Moline Lions, member of Colona Township Lions, and a spokesman for Leader Dogs, lecturing about them at local schools.

Survivors (and spouses) are his daughters, Lorena (Terry) Mattly, East Moline, Suzanne Larson, Cleveland, and Valerie Hall, Davenport; sons, Albert (Kathy) Larson, East Moline, and John Jr. (Erin) Larson, Port Byron; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Baker and Velma Anderson, both of East Moline; and his fiancee, Margery Lott, Port Byron. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alberta Ishmel.

Dolores Nickason
Dolores J. Nickason, Caldwell, Texas, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, in Geneseo.

A private service was conducted Thursday evening shortly after her death. Cremation rites were accorded. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo, assisted with arrangements.

She was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Collinsville, Ill., to Lester and Lucille Burns. She married Finis Walton and lived in the Prophetstown area. She later married Donald Nickason in 1964 in Caseyville, Ill.

Surviving are her husband; daughters, Sheila Sullivan, Hooppole, Ill., Deby Walton, Caldwell, Alice Henry, Atkinson, and Toni Jewell, Wylie, Texas; sons, Scott, Plano, Texas, Dan, McKinney, Texas, Curtis, Caldwell, and Brady, Geneseo; 30 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and brother, Larry Burns, Collinsville.

Alice Pinkerton
Alice Pinkerton, 62, of Colona died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at her son's home in New Windsor.

Arrangements are pending at Family Funeral Services, Colona.

Virgil Pobanz
Virgil Albert Pobanz, 85, of Geneseo died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo, after a long battle with cancer.

Private graveside services will be Thursday at Oakwood cemetery Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. Roger Perry will officiate. As Virgil requested, cremation rites will be accorded.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, where Masonic services will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. by Stewart Lodge AF&AM;, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society of America or the American Cancer Society.

Virgil was born Oct. 15, 1918, in Edford Township, Geneseo, the son of Albert William and Elizabeth May Klavohn Pobanz. He graduated from Geneseo Township High School in 1937.

He married Margaret Jean 'Peg' Wilson Aug. 5, 1945, at Silvis Methodist Church. Peg died Nov. 2, 1975. On April 2, 1977, he married Donna Jean Moulton at First United Methodist Church, Geneseo.

Virgil was a 33rd-degree Mason and a member for more than 60 years. He enjoyed music and joined the Maple City Band at age 13, playing the trombone for more than 40 years. He also sang with the Henry County Choir.

He farmed in Henry County until moving to town in 1960. Virgil worked a variety of jobs in construction trades prior to working for and retiring from John Deere and later Co-Op.

Virgil enjoyed selling Amsoil products and riding his bike to town daily, rain or snow. He loved traveling and auto racing and especially enjoyed visiting with his family. He will be remembered for his hard-working German ethics and a talent for repairing anything.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Donna; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Teresa Pobanz, Colorado Springs, Colo., Gary and Carolyn Pobanz, Fort Collins, Colo., and Randy and Terri Pobanz, Geneseo; granddaughters, Sheri Kelly, Tinley Park, Ill., Heather Vickrey, Colona, and Rachel Pobanz, Geneseo; great-granddaughter, Elexis Vickrey; and a brother, Marvin Pobanz, Geneseo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peg; a daughter, Julie Ann Jones; and a sister, Ruth Van Hyfte.

God saw he was suffering and the cure was not to be, so He put his arms around him and whispered, 'Come with me.' With tearful hearts we watched him and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands to rest; God broke our hearts to prove he only takes the best. It hurts so much to lose him, but he didn't go alone, for our thoughts and prayers went with him the day God took him home.

Ethel White
Ethel White, 86, of Aledo died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo.

Services will be noon Thursday at the Church of the Nazarene, Aledo, with visitation two hours prior at the church. Further arrangements are pending at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo.

Carol Funk
Carol Funk, 64, of Davenport died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at home.

Arrangements are pending at Runge Mortuary, Davenport.
