Frances Kresin, 71, of Fairport, Iowa, formerly of Camanche and Wilton, died Nov. 30, 2003, at home.

Memorial services are 6 p.m. Thursday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 3 p.m. to services.

She was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Portland, Ore., to Clifford and Dorothy Asplund Simpson.

Surviving are husband, Richard; daughters, Connie Kresin, Fairport, Iowa, and Michelle Lavine, Milan; sons, Dennis, Long Grove, Iowa, Jim, Bettendorf, Scott, Davenport, and Jay, Muscatine; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; stepmother, Gloria Simpson, Roseburg, Ore.; and six siblings.

Muriel Peck
Muriel E. Peck, 82, of Bettendorf died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Country House, Davenport.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Weerts, Davenport. Burial is in Pine Hill cemetery , Davenport.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

She was born March 10, 1921, in Davenport to John and Gertrude Johnson. She married R. Harry Peck Jan. 10, 1990.

Survivors (and spouses) are her husband; sons, Richard (Lynn) Stotlar, Bettendorf, and Brian (Carol) Stotlar, Madison, Wis.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Marie Johnson, Bettendorf.

Lorene Hessing
Lorene G. Hessing, 92, of Rock Island, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

There will be no services. She will be buried at Calvary cemetery , Quincy, Ill. Arrangements are by Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

She was born July 23, 1911, in Plattsmouth, Neb., to Robert and Grace Den Windham Jr. In 1928 she married George Hessing, who preceded her in death.

Together they owned a bakery in Quincy and later a bar in Coral Gables, Fla. She also did ice sculptures for movie sets in Hollywood. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and reading.

Survivors are daughters, Jeanne During, Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Jacqueline Davis, Quincy, Ill.; son, Kent, Garden Grove, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Jeffery Leeson
Jeffery Lynn 'Jeff' Leeson, 50, of Rock Island, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Island, where he was a member. The Rev. Kevin Cramm will officiate. Burial is in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born July 1, 1953, in Rock Island, son of Cecil and Rosemary Schwab Leeson. He married Janette Jacobsen Sept. 2, 1978, in Milan.

Jeff worked for many years for Poole Trucking, retiring as the terminal manager in 1999 because of his illness.

Jeff was a member of Rock Island Conservation Club and the Lutheran Bowling League. He enjoyed fishing with his sons and grandsons and playing the banjo. He loved to ride his Harley Sportster, which he won from the Big 10 Mart in 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Janette Leeson, Rock Island; daughters, Heather (Brian) DeHaven, Rock Island, Hayley Leeson, at home; sons, Travis Leeson, Moline, Zachary Leeson, Davenport, Christopher Leeson and fiancee, Hope Mowery, Rock Island; sisters, Carol Smith, South Dakota, Catherine Leeson, Monroe City, Mo., Tina DeLozier, Macomb, Kris (Jack) Gilman, Fulton, Mo.; brothers, John (Gayle) Smith, Turlock, Calif., Kreg Leeson, Harrison, Ark., Roger Leeson, Rock Island; grandchildren, Brian, Tyler, Jassaniah, Chloe, Ariana and Myah; father and mother-in-law, Donald (Marilyn) Jacobsen, Rock Island; sisters-in-law, Cheri (Rod) Rinehart, Vicki (Thomas) Harrel; and brother-in-law, Steve (Lisa) Jacobsen. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mary Ribble
Mary Parsons Ribble, 92, of Rock Island, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be at Andalusia cemetery . Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary was born Feb. 9, 1912, in Boston, Mass., daughter of Constantine and Annie Krupske Krupski. On Sept. 15, 1932, she married Thomas 'Edward' Parsons Sr. in Boston. He died Dec. 24, 1959. On Jan. 5, 1964, she married Edwin Ribble in Rock Island.

Mary was a waitress at the Gay Nineties, Harper House, The Harms Restaurant and, for more than 30 years, The Office Supper Club, Rock Island. She retired from the Moline Elks Club in 1972. With her husband Ed Parsons, she owned the American Cafe in Silvis and the Milan Cab Co. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening and cooking.

Survivors (and spouses) are a daughter, Marilyn (Owen) Cartwright, Rock Island; son, Thomas E. (Donna) Parsons Jr., Marble Hill, Mo.; grandchildren, Julie Carter, Mark, Keith and Thomas Parsons, Randy Cartwright, Cindy Leacox; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Joy, Erica, Adam, Mike, John, Trey, Kenneth and Veronica. In addition to both husbands, Mary was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Linda Williamson; sister, Stella Ruffino; stepfather, Traheim Turchin; and half-sister, Irene Tarallo.

Cordell Miller
Cordell 'Corey' Miller, 27, of Moline, formerly of Galesburg, died Feb. 13, 2004, at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West, Galesburg. Burial is in Linwood cemetery , Galesburg. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

He was the son of Gary and Holly Taylor.

Survivors are parents; sisters, Brooklyn, Cheyenne and Kaylyn Taylor, Galesburg, Tesha Sanchez, Naperville, Tiffany Greenley, Atlanta, and Tonya Taylor, Balch Springs, Texas; grandparents, Earl Miller, Lloyd (Cindy) Taylor and Utako Taylor, Galesburg.

Helen Hendricks-Sanders
Helen M. Hendricks-Sanders, 92, of Moline, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Arrangements are pending at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline.

Kathleen Smet
Kathleen 'Katy' Smet, 71, of Moline, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at home.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where further arrangements are pending.

Retha Frey
Retha Virginia Frey, 94, formerly of East Moline, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law at Lake Lynnwood, Lynn Center.

Arrangements are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline.

Jack `Jr.' Sanders
Jack 'Jr.' Sanders, 79, of East Moline, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline. The Rev. Dr. Douglas R. Ganyo will officiate. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, with military rites conducted by East Moline American Legion 227 and VFW 2056. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.

He was born Aug. 9, 1924, in Ramsey, Ill., son of Joshua and Sara Williams Sanders. He married Mattie Archer Dec. 4, 1957, in East Moline.

He was a security guard at the Quad City Downs and worked for the Rock Island Railroad. He was a World War II Army veteran, military police.

Survivors (and spouses) include daughters, Catherine (Wayne) McWade, Colona, Karen (George) Qualls, San Marcos, Calif.; a son, Jackie (Vickie) Sanders, Rapids City; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Clara Toney
Clara Ione Toney, 81, of East Moline, formerly of Rock Island, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, Kirksville, Mo. Burial is in Cox cemetery , Adair County, Mo. No services will be held locally. Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is in charge of local arrangements.

She was born June 12, 1922, in Adair County, daughter of Bernard and Dessie Odell Blacksmith. She married Marion Junior 'MJ' Toney Nov. 3, 1943, in Kirksville, Mo. He died in 1984.

She was a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Rock Island.

Survivors are sons, Robert (Diana) Toney, East Moline, and Harold (Beverly) Toney, Houma, La.; sisters, Lavita Winckler, Lathrop, Mo., and Jerrie (Bud) Allen, Davenport; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sharon Brody; and brother, Bernard Blacksmith.

Leon Harlow
Leon W. Harlow, 69, of Springfield, Ill., died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

Staab Funeral Home, Springfield, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Foundation.

He was born Jan. 5, 1935, in Pana, Ill., to Earl and Lucille Wheeler Harlow. He worked at the canteen at Illinois Department of Transportation and previously at Memorial Medical Center.

Survivors (and spouses) are daughter, Jewel (Tom) Starkweather, Springfield; grandchildren, Sarah and D.J. Graham; a great-grandchild, Carter Graham; a sister, Loretta Ancell, Silvis; and brother, Gerald (Joann), Springfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and companion, Velma Mayes.

Lois Bickers
Lois E. Bickers, 83, of Kewanee, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Kewanee Care Nursing Home.

Arrangements are pending at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee.

Beatrice Peterson
Beatrice L. Peterson, 72, of New Windsor, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Marigold Health Care Center, Galesburg.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swedona Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Carr officiating. Burial will be in Swedona Lutheran cemetery . Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home, Alpha. Memorials may be made to Swedona Lutheran Church or Orion Christian Church.

She was born Oct. 2, 1931, in Galesburg, daughter of Frank and Margaret Cooksey Johnson. She married George J. Peterson Aug. 7, 1950, in Galesburg. He died Dec. 15, 1990.

She was employed as a nurse's aide at the former Georgetown Nursing Home, Aledo, what is now Mercer County Nursing Home.

She was a member of Swedona Lutheran Church, the George Norris American Legion Post 484 Auxiliary, New Windsor, the Birthday Club in New Windsor and was a member and past president of Griffin Ladies Aid.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Jim Wilson, Rio; three granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and special friends, Walter and Rosella Ransom, New Windsor. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Ray M. Johnson.

Jason Rahmus
Jason L. 'Jake' Rahmus, 32, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Geneseo, was tragically killed Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, in an electrical accident in Curtis, Neb.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. Thomas Heyd will officiate. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following services. Memorials may be made to the Jason Rahmus Memorial Fund.

Jason was born Dec. 20, 1971, in Geneseo, son of Larry and Sherry (Bobo) Rahmus. He married Kathy Doyle Sept. 15, 2001, in Omaha, Neb.

He was a graduate of J.D. Darnall High School, Geneseo. He was currently employed as an electrician with Parr Co. in Omaha. He loved the outdoors and was an avid Penn State fan. The light of his world was his family, especially his children. He was a great friend, son, brother, husband and uncle. He will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; a son, Blake, at home; daughters, Ashlyn and Makenna, at home; parents, Larry and Sherry Rahmus, Geneseo; brother and spouse, Mike and Jennifer Rahmus, Colona; sister and spouse, Jennifer and Darren DeKezel, Cambridge; grandmother, Dora Bobo, Canton, Ga.; niece, Chelsea Rahmus; two nephews, Brian Rahmus and Austin DeKezel; aunts, Jenny and Glenn Anderson, Geneseo, Mary Jo and Gregg Henry, Geneseo, Brenda Crowe, Canton, Linda Hortman, Canton, Tammie Curtis, Canton. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lottie and Vernon Rahmus, Charles Bobo and uncle, Charles Bobo Jr.

Eugene `Jerry' Walsten
Eugene 'Jerry' Walsten, 100, of New Windsor, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home, Alpha, with the Rev. Joyce Basler officiating. Burial is in New Windsor cemetery .

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Tri County Ambulance Service or Oak Glen Home.

He was born Aug. 13, 1903, in Alpha, son of John A. and Ida Johnson Walsten. He attended the rural Alpha School and New Windsor School. He married Margaret Diggs Oct. 8, 1927, in Galesburg. She died May 17, 1997.

Jerry started doing carpentry at the age of 17. He owned and operated Walsten Builders in New Windsor, where he continued working until the age of 75.

He was a lifelong member of the National Geographic Society and the Smithsonian.

He enjoyed reading, and he gardened by hand until the age of 97.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Marian Schatteman, Alpha, Kathleen and Robert Fortner, Peoria; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Nancy Walsten, New Windsor; nine grandchildren and spouses, Connie and Larry Whitman, Captain Cook, Hawaii, Julie and Jim Ryan and Diane and Joe Lindquist, all of Alpha, Jennifer and Kerry Engels, Burleson, Texas, Dawn and David Alwan, Dunlap, Ill., Chris and Cindy Walsten and David and Lynn Schatteman, all of New Windsor, Jeff and Beth Fortner, Brimfield, Ill., Charles Walsten, Alpha; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a sister and a brother.

J.L. Brown
J.L. Brown, 86, of Davenport, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Manor Care Health Center, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Runge Mortuary, Davenport.
