Jean Lowery
Jean M. Lowery, 81, of Moline, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island.

Services will be noon Wednesday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Moline, with Dr. Melvin L. Grimes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial is at Riverside cemetery , Moline. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Tabernacle Baptist Church, 2601 15th St., Moline, IL 61265. Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jean was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Moline, daughter of Leo and Alice Maxie Golden Sr. and the stepdaughter of Henry F. Foy. She married Henry Woods. She later married LaVan Lowery.

Jean was employed at the Black Hawk Area Special Education Center as a teacher's aide for 20 years, last working in 1987. She also worked as a nurse's assistant and a meter maid.

She was a deaconess at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Moline and a former member and deaconess of Olivet Baptist Church in Rock Island. She also was a former member of St. Paul AME Church in Moline. She was a member of the Senior Active Club, Moline Civic Club and the Association of Colored Women's Clubs Inc., serving at the national, state and district levels.

Survivors include her sisters, Connie Guice, Chicago, and Marion Guice, California; brother-in-law, DeWitt Terry; sisters-in-law, Erma Golden and Bernetta Foy; stepgrandson, Michael Lowery; many nieces and nephews; childhood friends, Willa Mixon and Stella Weldon; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leo Golden Jr. and Billie Foy; and sister, Harriett Terry.

Phyllis Pearson
Phyllis I. Pearson, 71, of Moline, died June 3, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline, with the Rev. Kimberly Riebe officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery , Moline. Memorials may be made to First Day Fund through United Township Clergy or a charity of your choice.

Phyllis Irene was born Aug. 5, 1932, in Moline, daughter of Arthur and Dora Melin Pearson. Her mother passed away on May 23, 1949, when she was a junior in high school. Being an only child, she became a companion and a housekeeper for her father.

Phyllis completed United Township High School in 1950. She graduated from Augustana College with a bachelor's degree in speech therapy in 1954. She earned her master's degree in speech pathology and audiology from the University of Illinois in 1961.

She taught for 12 years in the Silvis Schools. She also ran a neighborhood grocery store and worked as a real-estate agent at times. For the past 34 years, Phyllis had worked in Riverdale Schools, District 100, in Port Byron, as a speech/language pathologist for preschool through high school students. She touched the lives of many children during her 49 years of teaching. She had planned on retiring in June 2005.

Phyllis was a member of American Business Women's Association, Plow Capital Chapter, since 1973. She also belonged to the Quad-City Speech & Hearing Association, the Riverdale Teachers Association, Council for Exceptional Children, the Silvis Classroom Teachers Association and East Moline Women's Club. She was a member of Zal Caldron 4 of Moline. She was a member of the Nifty-Fifties Group in high school. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in East Moline during high school and college through 1960 and was very active in the youth groups of the church. Phyllis was also a member of Short Hills Country Club and Clara Lodge 118, Independent Order of Vikings. Her other memberships include AARP, the Croation Club, Willow Springs, the Moose, the YMCA and the Regional Office of Education.

Her joys in life included playing piano, reading, golfing, swimming and dining with friends.

Survivors include her cousins, Nola Melin Hopp, Beaufort, S.C., Roma Melin Medd, Bettendorf, and Jon Melin, Moline.

Louise White
Louise White, 78, of East Moline, died June 5, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center West, Rock Island.

Graveside services will be at a later date at Chippiannock cemetery , Rock Island. Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.

Louise was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Wataga, Ill., daughter of Clarence and Edna Anderson White.

She was employed for the State of Illinois in the laundry at the East Moline State Hospital, retiring in 1987.

She is survived by brothers, Clarence White, Kewanee, Clifford White, Alexia, Ill., Robert White, Kansas City, Mo.; and a number of nieces and nephews, including David White, Moline.

Gerald Montreuil
Services for Gerald 'Jerry' Montreuil, 67, of Silvis, are 1 p.m Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline.

Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island, where East Moline American Legion Post 227 and VFW 2056 will conduct military honors. Visitation is one hour prior to services.

Mr. Montreuil died Friday, June 4, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. A memorial fund has been established.

Jerry was born Feb. 18, 1937, in Detroit, Mich., son of James and Ann Mulleavy Montreuil. He married Debra A. Ellis on Dec. 15, 1984, in Rock Island.

Jerry served in the U.S. Navy and later in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1975, as a staff sergeant. He also worked as a fork-lift operator for the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1999.

Survivors include his wife, Debra; son, Joe, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; daughter, Denise; two grandchildren; twin brother, Tom, Mount Pleasant, Mich.; and sisters, Patty, Mount Pleasant, and Peggy, Macomb Township, Mich.

Ernest Parker
Ernest L. Parker, 71, a resident of Hammond-Henry Hospital Skilled Care Unit, Geneseo, died Friday, June 4, 2004, in the unit.

Private memorial services will be held Friday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Oakwood cemetery , Geneseo, where military honors will be accorded. There is no visitation. Per his request, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be left to Hammond-Henry Hospital Foundation.

Ernest was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Rock Island, son of Ernest I. and Bertha Enderton Parker. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950 to 1954. He married Patricia Lesage July 2, 1955, in Moline. She died Sept. 9, 2003.

He had been employed at John Deere Harvester works in East Moline for several years, from which he retired.

Survivors include his son and spouse, Ernest III and Nancy Parker, Geneseo; daughter and spouse, Karla and Brett Lohman, Geneseo; grandchildren, Jonathan, Kelsey and Lesley Lohman, Chad, Matt and Angie Parker, Nicholas and Nathan Parker; special friend, Honey; two brothers-in-law; and four sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by one sister and a granddaughter, Lauren Lohman.

Wilma Tosh
Memorial services for Wilma Jean Dunkle Tosh, 64, of Germantown, Md., formerly of Andalusia, are 11 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at Viola cemetery .

Wilma died unexpectedly May 6, 2004, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville, Md. Memorials may be sent to Animal Allies, P.O. Box 7040, Fairfax Station, Va. 22039.

Wilma was born Jan. 26, 1940, in Moline, to Marjorie and Henry Dunkle. She graduated from Augustana College. She was a nautical cartographer for the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency.

Survivors (and spouses) are her son, John (Jing) Tosh, Fairfax, Va.; daughter, Anna (Tim) Carlson, Verona, Wis.; grandchildren, Henry and Emma Tosh and Christina, Susan and Sydney Carlson; and devoted friend, Charles Prue, Germantown.

Shirley Garrow
Shirley M. Garrow, 73, of Davenport, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Services are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Samuel and Shirley Poag
Shirley L. Poag, 74, a resident of Irving, Texas, died June 4, 2004, at Riverview Manor Nursing Home, Pleasant Valley. Her husband, Samuel L. Poag, died April 1, 2004, at their daughter's home in Bettendorf.

His service was at Donnelly Colonial Funeral Home, Irving. Her service is 1 p.m. Wednesday at Donnelly Colonial Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, Irving. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. McGinnis-Chambers, Bettendorf, is assisting the family with local arrangements.

Shirley was born Aug. 11, 1929, in Dallas, Texas, to Forrest and Lucy Kinsolving Dudley. Samuel was born Aug. 16, 1927, in Waxahachie, Texas, to Samuel L. and Dimples Chalmers Poag Sr. Shirley and Samuel were united in marriage on Nov. 19, 1949, in Dallas.

Survivors include their daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and the Rev. Rick Smith, Bettendorf, Sammie and Stan Jones, Houston, Texas; son, Craig Poag, Irving; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. They were preceded in death by their son, Mark; and grandson, Jason.

Betty Depaepe
Betty Lou Depaepe, 69, of Rock Island died Friday, June 4, 2004, at St. Anthony's Continuing Center, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan.

Ruth Howell
Ruth Howell, 76, of Keokuk, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at her home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, with the Rev. Jack Spratte officiating. Burial is in Keokuk National cemetery . Visitation is after 1 p.m. Sunday with the family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Keokuk Garden Club or the City of Christmas.

She was born Nov. 11, 1927, in Carthage, Ill., the daughter of Fred and Lula Gillenwater Belknap. On Sept. 12, 1953, Ruth was united in marriage to Kenneth H. Howell in Keokuk. He preceded her in death Jan. 6, 1992.

She was employed at Malco Inc., for two years.

She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Keokuk, and Low Vision Support Group, Keokuk. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flower gardens. She liked to quilt, embroider, crochet and square dancing.

Ruth is survived by three daughters, Judy Collins and her husband Rick, Fort Worth, Texas, Diana Zimmerman and her husband Rick, Peoria, Ill., and Pam Hartzell and her husband Tom, Carthage; six grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; six sisters, Alletia Hale, Carthage, Erma Inman, Texas, Dorothy Bundy and her husband Howard, and Rosa Hoing, all of Rock Island, Evelyn Brown and her husband Ronald, Moline, Betty Castelli, Chicago; and three brothers, Franklin Belknap and his wife Joan and Willis Belknap and his wife Margaret, all of Carthage, and Jessie Belknap, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Tracy Ann Henseon; five sisters; and two brothers.

Sherry Robinson
Sherry A. Robinson, 60, of Rock Island died June 4, 2004, at her residence.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetic Association.

Sherry was born May 13, 1944, in Casey, Ill., to Russell and Hazel Janes Smith. She married Jerry Robinson on April 21, 1962, in Casey.

Sherry was a very special mother and grandmother. She was devoted to her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and was very active in their hobbies. She loved being at Cordova Dragway and watching her two youngest grandkids race. She was a big part of their race team and will be greatly missed.

Survivors (and spouses) include her beloved husband, Jerry Robinson, Rock Island; daughter, Julie (Pete) Loomis, Milan; son, Brian (Judy) Robinson, Colona; grandchildren, Brian Larrison, Brittney Larrison, Chris Robinson, Brandon Loomis; mother, Hazel Smith; sister, Darla (Greg) Baysinger, Nixa, Mo.; and brothers, Richard (Nila) Smith, Lincoln, Ill., Bill (Rhonda) Smith, Phoenix, Ariz., Steve (Jean) Smith, Coal Valley, Rex (Betty) Smith, Silvis. She was preceded in death by her father.

Alfred Sundfor
Alfred H. 'Al' Sundfor, 89, of Rock Island died Friday, June 04, 2004, at his home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented by Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Additional visitation is 11:30 a.m. Monday until service time.

Mr. Sundfor was born Dec. 14, 1914, in Moorhead, Minn., the son of Alfred G. and Ellen B. Nyhagen Sundfor. He married the former Ann Pecka on Nov. 26, 1941, in Chicago. She died Jan. 27, 1997.

Al graduated from North Dakota State University, Fargo, N.D., with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked as a mechanical engineer for several companies in the Chicago area, prior to coming to the Quad-Cities in 1965. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal where he had worked as a mechanical engineer for many years.

Mr. Sundfor was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served as major. He retired from the army reserves as a lieutenant colonel He was a member of the Sons of Norway. Al was devoted to his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.

Survivors include his grandchildren, Annette Sundfor, Wheaton, Ill., and Lars Sundfor, Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his son, Alfred G. Sundfor; and brother, Art Sundfor.

Delores Titus
Delores 'Dee' Titus, 68, Rock Island, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be at Chippiannock cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Dee was born March 29, 1936, in Rock Island, the daughter of Virgil 'Bud' and Mary Hibst Anderson. She married Richard Titus Nov. 11, 1932, in Rock Island.

She was a cook at the Stop-Inn Cafe for many years. She enjoyed listening to music, gardening and putting scrapbooks together. She was also an avid collector of John Wayne memorabilia.

Dee is survived by sons (and spouse), Mark, Curt, Ricky Sr. and Brent (Wanda) Titus, all of Rock Island; grandchildren, Amber, Charisma, Harry, Richard, Ricky Jr., Justin, Tashia and Michelle; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Reece, Kylie, Kennedy, Carrie, Samantha and Dylan; mother, Mary Wilson, Davenport; sisters, Lillian Jackson, Las Vegas, Carol Miller, Lottsburg, Va., Joan Holland, Milan, and Marlene Marshal, Davenport; brothers, Richard Anderson, Monticello, Ind., Gary Boyd, Port Angelos, Wash., and Alvin Wilson, Moline; many nieces and nephews; former husband, Richard Titus, Rock Island, and special friends, Mary Rockwell, who was like a daughter, Moline, and Gail Cone, Rock Island. Dee was preceded in death by her father; son, Jan Titus; and sister, Sharon Durham.

Phyllis Pearson
Phyllis I. Pearson, 71, of Moline died Thursday, June 2, 2004, at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where further arrangements are pending.

Ralph Sersion
Ralph E. Sersion, 70, of Moline died June 4, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Private funeral services will be held at National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline, is assisting the family.

Ralph was born on May 29, 1934, in Moline, the son of Lawrence and Anna Blade Sersion. He married Donna Schnoebelen on April 11, 1958, in Moline. She preceded him in death on June 13, 1979.

Ralph was employed by the Rock Island Arsenal as a plumber for 22 years. He enjoyed fishing. Ralph was a veteran serving in the United States Marine Corp from April 4, 1957 to April 1, 1959.

Survivors include his sons, Arron and Chris Sersion; daughter, Betty Sersion; granddaughter, Donna Rodgers; and brother, Lawrence 'Bud' Sersion.
