Paul R. Burrow, 73, of Davenport, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport.

Juanita Campbell
Juanita M. Campbell, 76, of Eldridge, died Oct. 8, 2004, at Iowa Masonic Health Facility, Bettendorf.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bass Point cemetery , Boone, Iowa. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, is assisting the family with arrangements.

She was born Dec. 28, 1927, in Boone, to Russell and Juanita Sifford Shaeffer. On June 16, 1946, she married Roger W. Campbell in Boone. He preceded her in death Sept. 20, 1998.

Those left to honor her memory include her brothers, Harold and Harlan Shaeffer, both Des Moines, Iowa, and Ted Shaeffer, Indianola, Iowa; many nieces and nephews.

Clyde `Red' Holcomb
Clyde Charles 'Red' Holcomb, 78, of Davenport, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Chippiannock cemetery , Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.

Red was born March 20, 1926, in Freeburg, Ill., son of Edgar E. and Olivia M. Gerber Holcomb. He married June Potter Aug. 20, 1949, in Peoria, Ill. She preceded him in death Dec. 27, 1993.

Red was employed at John Deere Plow & Planter Works, Moline, retiring in 1983 after 32 years of service. He enjoyed country music, westerns, playing cards and marbles, and loved spending time with his family and his dog, Peanut. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the Navy as a Seaman First Class, and was a life member of VFW Post 2153, Moline.

Survivors (and spouses) include his daughter, Linda (Kenneth Sr.) Walton, Milan; sons, Richard (Eileen) Holcomb, Silvis, and Brad Holcomb, Davenport; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Corrine Belton and Delores Cunningham, both of Jerseyville, Ill., Clarita Parr, Gurnee, Ill., and Margorie Dickie, Marissa, Ill.; and a brother, Robert Lester Holcomb, Marissa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June; four brothers; a sister; and an infant daughter, JoAnne.

Lucile Johnston
Lucile J. Johnston, 90, of Davenport, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport.

Hazel Kaffenberger
Hazel M. Kaffenberger, 77, of Long Grove, died Oct. 8, 2004 at Genesis West, Davenport.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart, Davenport. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. today at Runge, Davenport, with burial in Mount Calvary cemetery , Davenport.

She married Ernst Kaffenberger in 1946.

Survivors are son, Ernst Kafferberger III, Kansas City, Kan.; daughters, Julie Levetzow, Long Grove; Susan Heitoff, Des Moines, Iowa, Jane Schwartzhoff, Preston, Iowa; sisters, Nina Peters, Jeanne Chenoweth, both Davenport; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Samuel Wilkins
Samuel B. Wilkins Sr., 60, of Davenport, died Oct. 7, 2004, at home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic, Davenport. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Weerts, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.

Survivors are wife of 40 years, Gloria; children, Tina Hauser, Sammy Jr., both Davenport, Stacey Kelly, Ann Malsam, both Bettendorf; ten grandchildren, Matt, Ben, Samantha Hauser, Cassie, Jacob, Paige Kelly, Brett, Kylie Malsam, Abbey, Josie Wilkins; sisters, Susie Rostenbach, Colleen Marshall, Barb Jacobson, all Davenport; brother, Bill, Ottumwa, Iowa; Sam's dog, Angel.

Sandra Bradford
Sandra Lee Bradford, 66, of Rock Island, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at her home, following a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Private entombment will be in the Rock Island Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice, Rock Island.

The former Sandra Monroe was born Sept. 28, 1938, in Rock Island, the daughter of Arthur and Ann Witt Monroe. She married Robert W. Bradford April 21, 1972, in Rock Island.

Sandra worked for Illinois Bell Telephone for 17 years, first as an operator and later as a repair clerk. She retired in 1973.

She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, loved her children and caring for her grandchildren. Sandra also enjoyed playing with her dogs, Jazz and Cricket.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Jeffrey Bauer, Rock Island; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Melanie Bradford, Glendale Heights, Ill.; and granddaughters, Jessica Galvin and Emily Bauer, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family wishes to thank Pathway Hospice and especially Linda Cheek, for the loving care given to Sandra.

Elmer Diehl
Elmer Wayne Diehl, 73, Rock Island, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, in Hillsdale.

Arrangements are pending at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline.

Ellen Kennedy
Ellen M. Kennedy, 86, of Rock Island, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Silver Cross Nursing Center in Rock Island.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Calvary cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island with a Christian wake service at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Francis Kennedy Communications Studio at Seton Middle School, Moline.

Ellen was born May 30, 1918, in Rock Island, the daughter of Joseph P. and Noreen Mulbrandon Kelly. She graduated from the former St. Joseph High School, Rock Island, attended Mundelein College, Chicago, and at the age of seventy, graduated from Black Hawk College, Moline. Ellen married Francis J. Kennedy Aug. 22, 1940, at Sacred Heart Church, Rock Island. They raised their family in Rock Island and were members of Sacred Heart Church.

She was most recently a member of St. Joseph Church in Rock Island. Ellen enjoyed needlework, crocheting, knitting and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed traveling with Elderhostel.

She is survived by her 10 children (and spouses), Paul (Mary Ann) Kennedy, San Diego, Calif., Dr. Timothy (Diane) Kennedy, Moline, Mary Kennedy, Michigan City, Ind., John (Cathy) Kennedy, Leonardtown, Md., Sheila (Dr. Sam) Moreno, Moline, Rose Kennedy-Hollis (Ken Hollis), Tulsa, Okla., Dr. Peter Kennedy, Monticello, Iowa, Claire Kennedy, Champaign, Ill., Daniel Kennedy, Bloomington, Ind., and Dr. Christopher (Sara) Kennedy, Greeley, Colo.; 29 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen Quane, Naperville, Ill., Ann Macomber, Washington, D.C., and one brother, Joseph Kelly, Moline. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis.

Mary Louise Smith
Mary Louise Smith, 86, Rock Island, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, with a visitation one hour prior to service time at Esterdahl Mortuary, 6601 38th Ave., Moline.

Joyce Butler
Joyce Elaine Butler, 71, died Oct. 7, 2004, in Wichita, Kan. after a short bout with cancer.

Her ashes will be taken to Fort Pierce, Fla., to be buried with her late husband Paul Butler.

Joyce Elaine Hearn was born in Moline Oct. 26, 1933. Joyce graduated from Moline High School in 1951.

She is survived by daughters (and spouses) Judy (Jerry) Gahman and Janice (Mark) Hauck; three grandchildren, Michell, Shane and Perry, all of Wichita; sisters, Phyllis Laiminger, Delores 'Toody' Hoskins; and a brother, Gerald 'Bud' Hearn. She was preceeded in death by her husband Paul, and parents Ralph and Ruth Hearn.

Stella Calhoun
Stella Vivi James Calhoun, 88, Orlando, Fla., formerly Moline, died Sept. 21, 2004, in Orlando after a long illness.

Services were held Sept. 25 at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, Orlando, with burial at Greenwood cemetery , Orlando.

Stella was born in Moline in 1916. Her enjoyment came from time spent with her family.

Survivors (and spouses) include her daughter, Susan K. James (Bill) Hubbard, Lake Alfred, Fla.; grandchildren, Theresa S. Brady, St. Cloud, Fla., Toby J. (Tracy) Swaford, Orlando, Vivia K. Quick, Toledo, Ohio; and brother, Herbert Johnson, Illinois. Two husbands, Harold A. James and Paul A. Calhoun, preceded her in death.

Howard C. DeCausemaker
Howard C. DeCausemaker, 89, Moline, died Oct. 7, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center-llini Campus, Silvis.

Rite of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday with a visitation one hour prior at Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline, where further arrangements are pending.

Martha A. Gibson
Martha A. Gibson, 93, of Moline, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Rock Island where she was a member. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. A committal service will take place 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the mausoleum at Rock Island Memorial Park cemetery , Rock Island. Memorial donations may be given to the Memorial Trust Fund at First United Methodist Church, Rock Island.

The former Martha A. Bordner was born April 7, 1911, in Columbia City, Ind., the daughter of Charles S. and Lana A. Burkholder Bordner. She graduated in 1929 from Muncie Central High School, Muncie, Ind. She began working as a bookkeeper at Penzyl's Book Store in Muncie. Martha married Wilbur E. Gibson April 24, 1937, in Muncie. In 1942, Martha, Wilbur, and their son David moved to the Quad-Cities. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur, in October 1983.

Martha was a 50-plus-year member of the church, a member of the Friendship Class, the Ella Taylor Guild, the United Methodist Women, and played piano for the Cradle Roll. She was a 50-year member of the Johanna Dunavin Circle of King's Daughters. For 10 years she was in charge of the vision testing program for the Moline Elementary Schools. Martha loved playing bridge and was a member of several bridge groups. She enjoyed sewing for her family and loved playing the piano.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Avalon Gibson, Coal Valley, a great-niece, Marilyn Wagner, Knox, Ind., and a sister-in-law, Wanda Gibson, Dayton, Ohio.

Charles Mahan
Charles Mahan, 84, of Moline, died Oct. 7, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, where further arrangements are pending.

George Barton
George Barton, 69, of Coal Valley, died Oct. 8, 2004, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Arrangements are pending at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley.

Among the survivors are his wife, Linda.

Louis Geerts
Louis Geerts, 103, Morrison, died Oct.8, 2004, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Bosma-Renkes, Morrison. Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with burial at Grove Hill cemetery , Morrison.

Born in 1901, in 1930, he married Jennie Vos. She preceded him in death in 2000.

Survivors are children, Mary Alice Pierce, Robert, Alan, all Morrison; grandchildren, Beth Dykstra, Mark, Sue Sumption, Doug, Jim, Ron; stepgrandchildren, Rhonda Hansen and Janet Martin; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.

Marjorie E. Gustafson
Marjorie E. Gustafson, 82, Cambridge, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis.

Arrangements are pending at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge.

Everett L. Jones
Everett L. Jones, 45, of Colona, died Oct. 7, 2004, at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis.

Visitation is 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Per his wishes, his body will be cremated after visitation.

He was born Dec. 7, 1958, in Moline, to Bradford and Irene Tollifson Jones. He married JoAnn Ramirez May 5, 1979, in Silvis.

Everett worked for Randolph's Auto Parts for 17 years and was a self-employed auto mechanic. He enjoyed fishing and traveling, and he loved working on cars.

Survivors are his loving wife of 25 years, JoAnn; sisters, Sandra Rasko, Linda Whitworth and Delores Somers, all East Moline, Sarah Callan of Hot Springs, S.D.; brother, Brad Jones Jr., Pekin, Ill.; special nieces, Rhonda and Tanya; several nieces and nephews and many loved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
