Teonna V. Harris, 47, of Rock Island, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at National cemetery , Rock Island. A wake will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Teonna was born Sept. 18, 1957 in Chattanooga, Tenn., the daughter of Luther and Cordia Rivers Crawford. She married Terry Harris Dec. 12, 1980, in Rock Island. She was a homemaker and formerly did some modeling for magazines. She enjoyed walking, traveling and fishing.

Survivors (and spouses) include her husband, Terry; a daughter, Denita McDuffy, Chattanooga; sons, Latwon McDuffy, Rock Island and Torron Harris, Orlando, Fla.; 6 grandchildren; a sister, Tyrun (Tabari) Dawson, Morrow, Ga.; brothers, Perry (Cynthia) Crawford, Chattanooga, Terry and Ronald Crawford, both of Rock Island; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Steve Baker
Steve Baker, 44, of Arlington, Texas, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in the early hours of Sunday, Oct. 4, 2004, with his family nearby. After fighting a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), he broke free from the physical pain and suffering and was welcomed into heaven.

Services will be held in Kennedale, Texas, on Thursday.

In the Quad-Cities, a Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, in St. Mary's Church, Hampton, with lunch and a celebration of Steve's life to follow immediately afterward in the parish hall. We invite Steve's classmates and friends to come share stories about our little brother.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to a foundation being established in Steve's memory.

He was born March 23, 1960, in Moline, the son of Merwin and Margaret Baker. He graduated from United Township High School in 1978, where he played football, basketball and baseball. Like Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus, Steve was a master carpenter and cabinetmaker.

Family was very important to Steve, and he devoted the last 24 years to his wife, Penny (Wells) and his boys, Steven and Bryce. A quiet person, he was loving, caring and affectionate, and it was no secret how he felt about his family.

In Texas, he is survived by his wife, Penny, and son, Bryce of Arlington, son, Steven and his wife, Kelli of Mansfield, and in-laws, Bob and Dixie Wells.

His Quad-City family includes parents, Merwin and Margaret Baker; sisters and brothers (and their spouses), Linda (Jeff) Vaughn, Kathie McIntosh, Marcia Allen, Chris (Don) Williams, Daniel Baker, Pam Baker, Paula Baker, Marty Baker, Denise Baker and Sandy (Floyd) Cordova, and too many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends to list individually.

Carol C. Burdick
Carol C. Burdick, 86, of Moline, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Rosewood Care Center, Moline.

Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, where funeral arrangements are pending.

Beverly J. Burke
Beverly J. Burke, 69, of Moline, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2002, at her home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. Interment will take place at Rock Island Memorial Park cemetery . Memorials may go to the Pathway Hospice. Beverly J. Faber was born Sept. 12, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Fred and Catherine Murphy Faber. She married Roger Burke Oct. 18, 1955, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death in 1992.

She was employed at Deere & Co., Moline, for 30 years, retiring in 1994.

Bev was past president of the Moline Turners Society, the Inplant Printers Club, president of the (ladies') Deere Retirees and was a volunteer at Trinity Hospital, Moline.

Survivors (and spouses) include son, Brad (Beth) Burke, Coal Valley; daughter, Valorie (Phil) Bigelow, Moline; stepgrandchildren, Chad Bigelow, Springfield, Ill., Jlayne Bigelow, Moline, Lance Bigelow, Bloomington, Ill., Cara Bigelow, Moline; two stepgreat-grandchildren; brother, Fred (Audry) Faber, Sioux City; sisters, Mary Mae (Charles) Marshall, Delmont, Pa., Anita Zeitler, Sioux City, Kathy Faber, West Field, Iowa, Linda Macklem, Sioux City, Paulette Berndt (Andy Gorter), Sargent Bluff, Iowa, Francy Reimer, Sioux Falls, S.D.; sisters-in-law, Gloria Burke, East Moline, Bonnie Netherda, Omaha, Neb.; several nieces and nephews. A very special thank-you to nephew Jon Marshall, Stuart, Fla., for the loving care during her illness.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Edward DeRocker
Edward M. DeRocker, 80, of Moline, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Forest Hill Health & Rehab Center, East Moline.

Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island, with military honors by American Legion Post 246, Moline. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzhiemer's Association.

Mr. DeRocker was born May 22, 1924, in Moline, the son of Gentiel and Helen DeWulf DeRocker. He married Helen M. Walters, Feb. 23, 1946, in Moline.

He was employed as a supervisor at J.I. Case, Bettendorf, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of the Army, having served in World War II.

He enjoyed golf, gardening, traveling, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; two granddaughters; two grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews; several cousins; daughter, Jane Sherer, Brooks, Ky.; and a sister, Emma Buchmeyer, Moline. Edward was preceded in death by a son, James E. DeRocker in 1990.

George Newberg
George Lee Newberg, 65, of Moline, passed away Oct. 4, 2004, at Parkview Terrace Heatlhcare, East Moline.

Family visitation is 10 a.m. today at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, followed by graveside services at Oakdale cemetery , Davenport.

He was born July 5, 1939, in Moline, to Richard and Ruth Newberg. He graduated from Moline High School.

He lived and worked most of his adult life in the Chicago/Joliet area, retiring from Union Oil. In recent years, he was maintenance manager of several apartment buildings.

He enjoyed restoring old cars.

Survivors (and spouses) are his sons, Jim (Pam) Nichols, Moline, Craig Newberg, Joliet; daughters, Sloan (Gary) Crofford, Houston, Texas, Kimberly Quering, Kansas, Emily, Laura and Katy Newberg, Joliet; several grandchildren; nieces; nephews; brother, Richard (Barbara) Newberg, East Moline; special friend, Sandy Waller, Moline. He was preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Jean Clauson.

Robert E. Poston
Robert E. Poston, 61, of Moline, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, were further arrangements are pending.

Edward Fox
Edward J. Fox, 64, of Silvis, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.

Arrangements are pending at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline.

James D. Lawson, Jr.
James D. Lawson, Jr., 37, League City, Texas, formerly of Moline and Coal Valley, died suddenly Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at Clear Lake Medical Center, Webster, Texas.

Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, where funeral arrangements are pending.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda.

Raymundo `Chief' Ayala
Raymundo 'Chief' Ayala, 76, of Milan, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Burial with military honors presented by American Legion Posts 569/200 and V.F.W. Post 1303 will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Albert Carlson
Albert Carlson, 84, of Illinois City, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine, Iowa.

Arrangement are pending at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan.

Clifford `Benny' Cook
Clifford 'Benny' Benham Cook, 72, formerly of Galva, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, in Texas.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday at Rux, Galva. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial is in Galva cemetery , with military rites accorded by the Galva Fusiliers.

Mr. Cook was born April 5, 1932, in Hayes, Kan., to Perry C. and Fae Benham Cook. He married Dorothy 'Dottie' Burnett.

Surviving are his wife, Etoile, Texas; sons Jim Cook, Nacogdoches, Texas, and Ty B Cook, Harker Heights, Texas; daughter, Ronda Taylor, Kileen, Texas; sisters Judi Nassour, Chattanooga, Tenn., Joanne Hobbs, Bardstown, Ky., Linda MacDonald, Kalamazoo, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vivian Jennings
Vivian F. Jennings, 71, Kewanee, died Oct. 5, 2004, at home.

Graveside services and inurnment are 11 a.m. Friday at Pleasant View cemetery , Kewanee. There is no visitation. Arrangements are by Schueneman-Tumbleson, Kewanee.

She was born March 27, 1933, to Aaron and Lillian Moon.

Surviving are husband, William Jr., children, Rick Nanninga, John Thurman, Rhonda Cernovich, Tanya Richards, 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, mother, siblings, Robert, William, Darlene Moore, Bev Philhower, Jean Schumann, Kay Nimrick and Debbie Davis, all of Kewanee.

Ghlee Kullerstrand-Meyer
Ghlee E. Kullerstrand-Meyer, 85, of Morrison, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center-Prophetstown.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Morrison. Burial is in Riverside cemetery , Prophetstown. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Bosma-Renkes, Morrison.

Surviving are a son, Todd Kullerstrand, Lyndon, Ill.; stepdaughter, Sharon Kyker, Harlingen, Texas; stepson, Edward Meyer, Texas; three grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren.

Robert D. Stern
Robert D. Stern, 65, of Annawan, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Emergency Room, Geneseo.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Mineral United Methodist Church, Mineral. The Rev. Terry Lancaster will officiate. Burial will be in Annawan cemetery , Annawan. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. Memorials may be made to Annawan/Alba Rescue Squad or to Father Fabian Mission in Kenya/Nairobi.

Robert was born Jan. 2, 1939, in Sterling, the son of Oscar and Edna Behrens Stern. Bob attended Morrison and Sterling schools. He was married to Barbara Wood in Morrison and later married Carole VanHyfte Nov. 30, 1984, in Hooppole, Ill.

Bob managed Wood Livestock in Morrison and was then a regional sales manager for Arbie Scotter Feeds. He was most recently employed by Geneseo Feed and Grain, Geneseo. His interests included camping, gardening, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren. Bob did a great deal of volunteer work for the Annawan/Alba Library.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Carole Stern; his mother, Edna, Sterling; sons Craig (Becca) Stern, Tucson, Ariz., Mark (Laura) VanHyfte, Annawan; daughter, Heather (Jeff) Wellman, Ankeny, Iowa; five grandchildren, Robert and Dani Stern, Valerie and Lydia VanHyfte, Andrew Wellman; brother, Lyle (Debbie) Stern, Sterling; sister, Joyce (Bob) Holloway, Sterling. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar, and a sister, Elaine.

Marie E. Tunney
Marie E. Cunningham DeSplinter Tunney, 90, a long time resident of Annawan, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Annawan Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. The Rev. Dan Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Annawan cemetery . Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Annawan-Alba Rescue Squad or American Heart Association.

The former Marie Cunningham was born April 1, 1914, in Wyoming, Ill., the daughter of Roy and Mabel Reed Cunningham. She married Henry A. DeSplinter July 7, 1932. He died in March 1955. She later married John A. 'Jack' Tunney April 1, 1967, in Annawan. He died April 17, 2002. Marie had owned and operated the Annawan Cafe in the 1940s. She later attended beauty school and owned and operated Marie's Beauty Salon in Annawan for many years until retiring.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Connie DeSplinter, Florida; step-son, James Tunney, Mark, Ill.; step daughter-in-law, Beverly Stegman, Manlius, Ill.; grandson and spouse, Robert and Jill DeSplinter, San Antonio, Texas; step-granddaughter, Katie Tunney, Manlius; four great-grandchildren, April, Faith, Peter and David and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Henry and Jack; a brother, Ray Cunningham; and infant sister, Louise.

Robert Fender, 86, of Bettendorf, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at his home. Arrangements are pending at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline.

Ligouri `Lee' Peirce
Ligouri 'Lee' Marie Paul Peirce, 81, Davenport, died Oct. 2, 2004, at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living Facility, Omaha, Neb.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic, Davenport. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island, immediately following. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Halligan McCabe De Vries.

Survivors are son, J. Scott Paul, grandchildren, Kyle, Bridget, Sean, all of Omaha, Neb.; a nephew; niece, Kathy Smith, Davenport. She was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, Edmon Paul, and her second husband, Robert Peirce.
