Elizabeth `Betty' Pool
Elizabeth S. 'Betty' Pool, 91, of Sikeston, Mo., formerly of Rock Island and East Moline, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Sikeston Convalescent Center.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Rock Island. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the church. Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Pool was born Nov. 16, 1913, in Galveston, Texas, daughter of John and Anna Cronholm Shield. She married William C. Pool Jan. 20, 1951, in Chicago. He died March 4, 1972.

Betty graduated from Augustana College in 1935 and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1948 with a master's degree in education. She started her teaching career as a second-grade teacher at McKinley School in East Moline. She then went on to be principal at Lincoln School in East Moline from 1956 to 1966. She was principal at Meadowland Grade School in East Moline for 10 years and finished her career as principal at McKinley School for one year before retiring in 1977 after 29 years in the teaching profession.

Betty was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Rock Island, and St. Elizabeth's Guild of the church. She was a life member of the Blackhawk Unit of Illinois Retired Teachers Association, life member of National Education Association, life member of National Elementary School Principals Association, American Business Women's Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Phi Delta Kappa, Mystic Lodge 160 of Cambridge and Sikeston Chapter 137 Eastern Star.

She is survived by stepson, Clarence Pool, Sikeston; four stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded by one stepgreat-grandchild.

Wayne Schwob
Wayne E. Schwob, 78, of Elkhart, Ind., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at his home following an extended illness.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Huntington First Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Road, Huntington, Ind., where family and friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Lancaster cemetery in Huntington. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, Ind. Memorials may be given in his memory to Bristol Church of the Nazarene, 401 Hilbish Blvd., Bristol, Ind. 46507, or World Missionary Press, P.O. Box 120, New Paris, Ind. 46553.

Wayne was born Nov. 28, 1926, in Huntington, Ind., to the late John W. and Fleeta Yantis Schwob. On July 4, 1948, in Huntington, Wayne married Melba Joan Hacker. She died April 12, 1967. He then married Evelyn M. Grey Feb 3, 1968. Wayne and Melba were the parents of sons (and spouses), Kent Schwob, Indianapolis, Ind., and James (Sharon) Schwob, Mill Creek, Wash.; daughters (and spouses), Beth (Russell) Mueller and Jane Schwob, all of Edmonds, Wash.

Also surviving is his wife, Evelyn M. Schwob, Elkhart; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother (and spouse), Max (Freda) Schwob, Huntington. His brother, John Robert Schwob, preceded Mr. Schwob in death.

Wayne retired in July 2004 from the Carpenter Co., where he worked in security. Mr. Schwob was a Nazarene pastor for 38 years, serving in Indiana, Wisconsin, Idaho, Alaska and Rock Island.

He was a graduate of Huntington Township High School, where he excelled at basketball and track, and is a member of the Huntington Basketball Hall of Fame. He attended Huntington College, Olivet Nazarene University, Nazarene Theological Seminary and other postgraduate studies. He was truly a caring and compassionate pastor. He also enjoyed Lionel trains and traveling.

Alden Stanford
Alden G. Stanford, 97, of Rock Island, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Evangelical Free Church, Moline. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the church.

Mr. Stanford was born July 6, 1907, in Chicago, a son of George and Celenda Pease Stanford. Alden married the former Agatha DeReus, who died a year later in childbirth. He married the former Louise A. Swan June 23, 1946, in Burlington, Iowa. She died Oct. 6, 2002.

Alden graduated from the University of Illinois with an engineering degree. He worked as a mechanical engineer at International Harvester, East Moline Works, for 30 years and retired in 1972. In early years, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Montana on a dam project.

He was a member of First Evangelical Free Church and previously was an active 50-year member of First Baptist Church, Rock Island, where he served as a deacon. Alden had been an adult sponsor of the Black Hawk Chapter of the National Association of Rocketry. He enjoyed woodworking and inventing.

Survivors include a daughter, the Rev. Sandra Walton, Lawrence, Kan.; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Barbara Stanford, Rock Island; grandchildren, Timothy and Tom Walton, Angela Danner-Walton, John Stanford and Jewell McGhee; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Richard Rosenberg
Richard P. 'Dick' Rosenberg, 67, of Moline, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at his home.

Visitation will be noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Memorials may be made to Friends Circle Club, Moline. Private burial will be at National cemetery , Arsenal Island, with military honors by American Legion Post 246, Moline.

Mr. Rosenberg was born Feb. 23, 1937, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Robert and Roberta VanBuskirk Rosenberg. He married Shirley R. Anderson on May 28, 1960, in Moline. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2004.

Richard retired from Roadway Express, Rock Island, as a driver. He also worked part time as an instructor in the Truck Driving School at Scott Community College, Davenport.

Richard was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Rosenberg was the current president of Friends Circle Club, Moline. He was also a member of East End Bolders and Svithiod clubs, both of Moline.

Dick enjoyed reading and gardening with his wife.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sheree and Mark Fahlberg, Anna, Ill.; son, Richard A. Rosenberg, Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren; and a brother, Dan Rosenberg, Kenmore, Wash.

Julia Berg
Julia G. Berg, 90, of Kewanee, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Kewanee Hospital.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rux, Kewanee. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Mount Olivet cemetery , Kewanee.

She was born Nov. 9, 1914, in Kewanee, to Ignas and Anna Gedville.

Survivors (and spouses) are two grandsons, Jeffrey (Gini) Bennison, Kewanee, Eric (Laura) VanRiper, Chelsea, Mich.; two nieces, Kathy (Ken) Maas, Morris, Ill., Theresa Langley, Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; great-grandchildren; and great-nieces and -nephews.

William Buhlig Sr.
William D. 'Bill' Buhlig Sr., 77, of Albany, died Feb. 2, 2005, at University Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Albany United Methodist. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bosma-Renkes, Fulton. Interment is in Lusk Memorial cemetery , Albany, with graveside military honors.

He was born July 29, 1927, in Scott County, Ill., to Henry and Bertha Buhlig. He married Jean Gregory in 1948. She died in 2004.

Surviving are daughter, Patricia Clark, Albany; son, Dean Buhlig, North Platte, Neb.; five grandchildren; and five siblings.

Joseph `Willie' Dones
Joseph 'Willie' Dones, 65, formerly of the Quad-Cities, died Feb. 3, 2005, in Bardstown, Ky.

Services are pending at Greenwell Funeral Home, New Haven, Ky.

He was born May 21, 1938, in Bardstown. He moved to the Quad-Cities in 1957 and lived here until 1995. He worked at Case-IH for 19 years. He also served in the military as a military policeman in early 1950s.

He will be missed by all of his friends.

Lonebelle Huffman
Lonebelle Huffman, 84, of Orion, died Feb. 3, 2005, at Parkview Healthcare Center, East Moline.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Orion. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Orion.

Lonebelle was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Reed, Okla., to Henry Klemp. She married Otto Rusch. He preceded her in death. She later married C. Everett Huffman. He also preceded her in death.

Lonebelle was an LPN for the former Moline Public Hospital. She was also employed at ARC, retiring in 1986.

Lonebelle was a member from 1989 to 2005 of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion, where she was a member of Carnation Circle, Friendly Stitches and WELCA. She was a member from 1961 to 1972 of First Lutheran Church, Moline.

Survivors include her sons, Randell (and spouse, Wanda) Rusch, Kiowa, Colo., Charles 'Tim' Huffman, Atlanta, Texas; daughter, Belinda Rusch, East Moline; five grandchildren, John, Amanda, Luke, Steffan and Nash; and special friend, Guy 'Smokey' Leedom. She was preceded in death by her father and daughter-in-law, Mattie.

Margaret Peck
Margaret M. Peck, 83, of Andalusia, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park cemetery .

Mrs. Peck was born June 2, 1921, in Rock Island, daughter of Camiel and Zulma Schelstraete Verstraete. She married Howard C. Peck in Rock Island on June 8, 1940. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1976.

She was a avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her dog, Brandi.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Englund, Andalusia; granddaughter, Amy Root, Reynolds; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Root. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael; a granddaughter, Sue; and four brothers.

Claire Budelier
Claire Rose C. Budelier, 77, of Davenport, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic, Wilton, Iowa. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery , Wilton. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Bentley, Wilton.

She was born Dec. 17, 1927, to Charles and Marguerite Goethals Lambert, in Moline. She married Joseph C. Budelier April 8, 1967. He died Dec. 31, 1995.

Survivors (and spouses) include sons, Patrick, Alan, both Davenport; and sisters, Frances (Morris) Calsyn, Davenport, Charlene (John) Malmstrom, East Moline.

Isa McDonough
Isa M. McDonough, 96, of Davenport, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Genesis West, Davenport.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic, Davenport. Burial is in Mount Calvary cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, with prayers at 4 p.m.

She was born May 19, 1908, to Simon and Mary F. Robinson. She married Francis McDonough in 1930. He died in 1979.

Survivors are sons, Jack, Davenport, Jerry, Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren, including Tim, Joe, both Davenport; 11 great-grandchildren.

Kathleen McKnight
Kathleen Viola McKnight, 84, of Davenport, died Feb. 2, 2005, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at McGinnis-Chambers, Bettendorf. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

She was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Rock Island, to Fred and Dorothea Kennison Cook. She married Ralph Hartmann. He died. She later married Alvin L. McKnight Feb. 7, 1974. He also died.

Survivors are grandchildren, Mike Styvaert, Davenport, Jacob Hartmann, Karlene Stock, both Augusta, Ga.; six great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Edward Poplar
Edward W. 'Ed' Poplar, 78, of Davenport, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at Meadow Lawn, Davenport.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport.

He was born July 9, 1926, to Edward and Lorraine Poplar. He married Ellen Courtenay Oct. 4, 1947.

Survivors include wife; daugther and son-in-law, Diane and Tom Cech, Burbank, Ill.; sons and daughter-in-law, Tom, Davenport, Donald and Milly, Worth, Ill.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ralph Schmidt
Ralph B. Schmidt, 79, of Eldridge, died Feb. 3, 2005, at Genesis West, Davenport.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran, Eldridge. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church and one hour prior to services. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Runge, Davenport, is assisting with arrangements.

He was born June 25, 1925, in Davenport, to Benno and Alma Serk Schmidt. He married Marilyn Stein in 1947.

Survivors are wife; son, Dennis, Clive, Iowa; brother, Allen, Davenport; two grandchildren; a stepgrandson; two great-grandsons.

Brenda McBroom
Brenda E. McBroom, 64, of Fulton, died Feb. 2, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa.

Memorial services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Bosma-Renkes, Fulton, with visitation 9 a.m. to services. Burial is in Clinton Lawn cemetery .

She was born Dec. 19, 1940, to Donavon and Heloise Snyder. She married Floyd McBroom in 1962. He died in 1986.

Surviving are siblings, Hester Riesner, Palmer, Alaska, Judith Wiebers, Mission, Texas, Aliecia Workman, Sterling, Donavon Snyder, Sun City, Ariz., Arlen Snyder, Davenport, Kelvin Snyder, Fulton, Roger Snyder, Saudi Arabia.
