Evelyn J. Ramser
Evelyn J. Ramser of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully Jan. 31, 2005, at the age of 87. She was a longtime resident of Port Byron and had resided in Austin for the past 10 years.

A graveside service was held 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 3, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks cemetery , 14501 N. IH-35, Pflugerville, Texas. (512) 251-4118.

Evelyn was born in Peoria, Ill., to the late William and Latha Anderson.

She will be remembered for her love of flowers, the Florida coastline and her many John Deere friends.

Those surviving her include her son, Jack Ramser, granddaughters, Anne Ramser, Amy McAuliffe and husband, Michael, great-granddaughters, Rebecca and Christina Ramser and Madison McAuliffe, all of Austin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay Ramser; and brother, Richard Anderson.

Lucille Roach
Lucille G. Roach, 86, of Prophets Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Prophetstown, formerly of Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Good Samaritan.

Cremation rites were accorded. There are no services. A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Arrangements are by Garland Funeral Home, Tampico.

Mrs. Roach was born July 13, 1918, in Susquehanna, Pa., daughter of Elwin and Marion Quick Rought. She married Arthur Roach on July 6, 1941. He preceded her in death in August 1997.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, watching TV and playing bingo.

She is survived by a daughter, Harriet Kiers, Dixon, Ill.; four grandsons; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister and a grandson.

Betsy Boyette
Betsy J. Boyette, 66, Davenport, died Feb. 2, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center, West, Davenport.

Services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 12:30 p.m. to services. Cremation will follow services.

She was born Jan. 18, 1939, in Newburn, N.C., to Joseph and Mary Boyette.

Survivors (and spouses) are life partner, Sharon Brock, Davenport; siblings, Robert (Betty) Boyette, Charles (Pat) Boyette, Ann, all of Newport, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; great-niece, Ashley Mason; extended family, Matt, Steph, Tyler and Cobey; friends, Nancy Brayton and Marta Camp.

Lloyd Eston
Lloyd D. Eston, 88, Davenport, died Feb. 2, 2005, at Genesis, West Campus, Davenport.

Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Christ Apostolic, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. to services. Arrangements are by Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport.

He was born Nov. 14, 1916, in Lewistown, Mo., to Charles and Gladys Eston. He married Lillyan Bell Nov. 16, 1957. She died in 1991.

Surviving are three sons including, Lloyd Eston and Darrell Eston, both Davenport; seven daughters; 30 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two siblings.

Roy Jones
Roy Jones, 75, Davenport, died Feb. 2, 2005, at his home.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today. Burial is in Pine Hill cemetery , Davenport.

Roy was born May 30, 1929, in Grovesprings, Mo., to Luther and Rebecca Perryman Jones. He married Thelma Anglen on April 14, 1951, in Phillipsburg, Mo.

Survivors (and spouses) are his wife; daughter, Sharon (Paul) Vasquez, Davenport; sons, Mike Jones, Burlington, Iowa, Don (Tana) Jones, New London, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; and four sisters.

Kathleen McKnight
Kathleen V. McKnight, 84, of Davenport, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.

Marilyn Mizener
Marilyn Louise Mizener, 77, of Bettendorf, died early Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, in Davenport surrounded by her family.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Private inurnment will be in Davenport Memorial Park cemetery . Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Monday. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

She was born May 6, 1927, in Davenport, daughter of Harold and Anna Hilbert Mizener. She graduated from Moline High School and attended school in Chicago for fashion and merchandising. She worked for many years as the head sportswear buyer for the Peterson, Harned and Von Maur department store in Davenport. After her retirement from Von Maur, she went on to manage Glamour Isle in Moline until her retirement.

She loved spending time with her family, walking with her friends and watching sports.

Surviving are her sister-in-law, Janet Mizener, Wilmette Ill.; nephew, Todd Mizener (wife, Lisa) Coal Valley; nephew, Jeff Mizener (wife, Ellen; children, Andrew, Brendon and Maureen), Euless, Texas; nephew, Chris Mizener (children, Christopher and Kathleen), Glenview, Ill.; nephew, Mark Boeckner; cousins, Alice Spencer, Ellen Herring, Mary Troxel and Irene Elliott; aunt, Jeanne Barzan; uncle, Donald Hilbert. She was preceded in death by parents, Harold and Anna Mizener; brothers, Blair and Jon Mizener.

James Patterson
James Patterson, 64, of Davenport passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Fejervary Health Care Center, Davenport, following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the mortuary. Burial will be in a local cemetery . Memorials may be made to the family.

He was born on Nov. 12, 1940, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Harry and Clara Taylor Patterson.

He enjoyed gardening and cake decorating.

Survivors include his sister, Dorothy Kendall, residing in Delaware; and half-brother, Dan Kerr.

Mildred Barnes
Mildred M. Barnes, 86, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island.

Mildred was born March 28, 1918, in Kentucky, to Albert Lee and Cora Elizabeth Burch Elder.

She married Albertus W. Barnes on March 9, 1945, in Moline. He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1986.

Mildred devoted her life to being a homemaker.

She was an avid golfer, belonging to Pinnacle Country Club, which is the former Mill Creek Country Club.

Survivors include four daughters (and spouses), Deanna (James) Dellitt, Aledo, Donna (Richard) Goetz, Decatur, Ill., Penny Schroeder, Davenport, and Candy Weiss, Rock Island; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Irene Elder, Moline. She was preceded in death by a son, Robley L. Barnes on Jan. 31, 1986; three brothers; and one sister.

Anne Gustafson
Anne C. Gustafson, 87, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Silver Cross Nursing Home, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary, Moline.

Floyd `Chick' Call Jr.
Floyd B. 'Chick' Call Jr., 58, passed away Jan. 31, 2005, in Sacramento, Calif.

Burial will be at a later date.

He was born Sept. 3, 1946, in Moline Public Hospital, to Floyd B. Call Sr. and Mabel Call, of Silvis. He graduated in 1964 from United Township High School. He joined the Air Force in Sacramento and was employed for 35 years with the International Union of Elevators Local No. 8, retiring in December 2004.

Survivors (and spouses) include his daughter, Kelley Sellers (Ken); his son, Steven Call (Pat); four grandchildren; and his special friend, Teresa Riley. He is also survived by his brother, Rick Stevens (Dottie), Anaheim, Calif.; sister, Susan Edwards, Dayton, Ohio; and his mother, Mabel Call Van Coillie (Walt), Rock Island. Preceding him in death were his father, Floyd Call Sr., and his brother, Kerry Call.

Rose Paone
Rose A. Paone, 99, a resident of Heartland Health Care Center, Moline, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at the center.

Arrangements are pending at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.

Evaristo Ruiz
Evaristo Nache Ruiz, 89, of Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, formerly of Moline, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1608 13th St., Moline. The Mass will be held at the request of his son and wife, Refugio and Esther Nache, and granddaughters, Cecilia Jimenez, Blanca Nache, Leticia Perez and Elizabeth Nache. Additional funeral services and burial were held in Celaya.

He was born Oct. 26, 1915, in Leon, son of Santiago and Martina Ruiz Nache. He worked at and retired from the former Frank Foundries, Moline.

Surviving are his seven daughters, four sons, 25 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Owen McKenzie
Owen B. McKenzie, 84, of Milan, flew his last mission on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the church or Alleman High School.

Owen Burton McKenzie was born Jan. 7, 1921, in Longwood, Wis., son of Charles Everet and Isabelle Phelps McKenzie. He graduated from East Moline High School and Worsham College of Mortuary Science, Chicago. He served in the Army Air Corps Eighth Air Forces 487th Bomb Group in the European Theater during World War II. From July to November 1944, he flew 34 successful missions on a B-17G Flying Fortress, earning him recognition by citation as a member of The Lucky Bastard Club. He married Eileen Hermes June 23, 1945, in Rapids City, Ill.

Owen was property manager for Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley, for 15 years; commercial property manager for Lee Enterprises, Davenport, for 15 years; and retired from the Rock Island Water Department in 1985.

He was past commander of the Coal Valley American Legion, a co-founder of the Sherrard VFW and helped organize the American Legion Polio Clinic in the late 1950s. He enjoyed golf, bowling, woodworking, traveling, the outdoors, and was an inventor and Mr. Fix-it.

Owen is survived by his wife, Eileen; four children and spouses, Jenifer McKenzie, Palatine, Ill., Michelle McKenzie, Rock Island, Molly McKenzie and Thomas Holbrook, Belleville, Ill., and Thomas and Judy McKenzie, Irving, Texas; daughter-in-law, Christine McKenzie, East Moline; four grandchildren, Katie and Jared Montgomery of Davenport, Betsy and Shane Harper, Andy McKenzie and Peter McKenzie, all of East Moline; one great-granddaughter, McKenzie Harper of East Moline; and a sister, Helen Imig, The Dalles, Ore. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory McKenzie, four brothers and three sisters.

'While his time with us was finite, his legacy is boundless.'

Shirley Huether
Shirley J. Huether, 77, of Silvis, died Jan. 29, 2005, at her home.

Services are 11 a.m. today at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Visitation was 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary and is one hour before the service today. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice, American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

She was born Sept. 6, 1927, in Yakima, Wash., to Guy and Annie-Laurie Hurd Harris. She married B.J. Huether June 21, 1946, in East Moline.

She was a homemaker. She was also a switchboard operator for the former Moline Public and East Moline hospitals.

Shirley enjoyed being with her family, swimming, and was a Girl Scout leader. She was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Laurie Mitchler, Atkinson; son, Bob Huether, Silvis; grandchildren, Brendan and Amanda Mitchler and Bailee Huether; brother, Guy Harris, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Mary Stone
Mary M. Stone, 86, of Roscoe, Ill., formerly of Coal Valley, died Feb. 1, 2005, at Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford, Ill.

Services are 12 p.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.

The former Mary Magdaline Russell was born June 11, 1918, in Eldorado, Ill., daughter of Lusco and Louella McClellan Russell. She married John E. Stone Oct. 30, 1935, in Eldorado. John preceded her in death in 1993. Mary worked as a nurse's aide at St. Anthony Hospital in Rock Island, retiring in 1971.

Mary was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Coal Valley. She enjoyed crocheting, the casino boats and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, John and Joan Stone, Roscoe, and Donna and Larry Crum, Moline; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Martha Russell, Eldorado; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ella Stone, and four brothers.
