Elmer Mahoney Jr.

Elmer Eugene Mahoney Jr., 53, of Keo–kuk, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at his home.

Born Jan. 2, 1952, in Keo–kuk, he was the son of Elmer Eugene Sr. and Vivian Washburn Mahoney. On June 1, 1985, he married Wanda Hendricks in Keokuk.

Mr. Mahoney worked at Schlegal in Keokuk for 16 years.

He was a 1971 graduate of Keokuk Senior High School and a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk. He enjoyed camping and fishing and loved animals.

Survivors include his wife; his parents of Keokuk; one sister, Sherry Buschling of Keokuk; one brother, John Mahoney of Keokuk; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

The Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Mahoney will be at 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul Connolly officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk.

A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.

Janis Haas

Janis L. Haas, 56, of Burlington, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Feb. 22, 1948, in Bur–lington, she was the daughter of Warren F. and Dorothy L. Roseberry Gerdom. On Sept. 17, 1977, she married Edward M. Haas in Oquawka, Ill.

Mrs. Haas was a homemaker.

She was a 1966 graduate of Burlington High School. She loved bowling, camping, fishing, animals and flowers.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Shane Womack of Temple, Texas; one daughter, Christine Fowler of Davenport; her mother of Burlington; one stepson, Allen Haas of Tulsa, Okla.; one stepdaughter, Beth Ann Gibson of Tulsa; six grandchildren; one brother, Fred Gerdom of Lomax, Ill.; aunts, uncles, cousins and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Friday at Hass–Thielen Funeral Home. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral for Mrs. Haas will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Hass–Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tyrone C. Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

Fern Pezley

Fern Elizabeth Pezley, 86, of Fort Madison died at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Fort Madison Community Hospital.

Born March 28, 1918, in Marceline, Mo., she was the daughter of Harry E. and Nora Grogan Wells. On June 25, 1940, she married Ernest Pezley in Marceline. He died Nov. 14, 1983.

Mrs. Pezley was a homemaker.

She was a member of SS. Mary and Joseph Church.

Survivors include one son, Robert Pezley of Sioux City; four grandchildren; four great–grandchildren; one brother, Harry Wells of Fort Madison; and seven nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, four brothers and two sisters.

There will be no visitation. The body has been cremated.

A memorial Mass for Mrs. Pezley will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at SS. Mary and Joseph Church, with the Rev. Thomas Parlette officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for SS. Mary and Joseph Church or a charity of the donor's choosing.

D. Eugene Shaw

D. Eugene Shaw, 79, of Burlington died at 6:10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Shaw will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Cancer Care Center of Great River Medical Center.

Harold Wathen

Harold Stephen "Tim" Wathen, 76, of Fort Madison died at 1:18 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Born Nov. 28, 1928, in Ridgway, Ill., he was the son of Walter E. and Mary E. Luckett Wathen. On Aug. 8, 1950, he married Mary Lillian Zirkelbach. On Feb. 21, 1979, he married Ruth Harshbarger.

Mr. Wathen was a truck driver and real estate agent for Scholl Real Estate in Fort Madison for several years.

He attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Ridgway High School. He was a member of SS. Mary and Joseph Church, Elks Club and Moose Club. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and country music.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janis Kurtz of Janesville, Wis., and Gale Bittle of Mount Pleasant; three sons, Patrick Wathen and Michael Wathen, both of Mount Pleasant, and Tim Wathen of Henderson, Nev.; eight grandchildren; one great–grandchild; two sisters, Mary Nell Davis of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and Rita Wathen of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and one brother, John Wathen of Gardenerville, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, four brothers and one infant sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at SS. Mary and Joseph Church in Fort Madison. The body has been cremated.

A memorial Mass for Mr. Wathen will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at SS. Mary and Joseph Church, with the Rev. Thomas Parlette officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Ridgway.

Memorials have been established for SS. Mary and Joseph Church and PAW Animal Shelter.

King–Lynk Funeral Home in Fort Madison is in charge of arrangements.

Edith Erickson

Edith Schlag Erickson, 95, of New London, died at 11:55 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at New London Nursing & Rehab.

Born July 18, 1906, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of William Allen and Laura Louise Phieff Schlag. She married Virgil Erickson on Dec. 31, 1936, in Chicago. He died March 13, 1983.

Mrs. Erickson attended school in West Burlington. She was a homemaker and also worked at the Henry County Home for many years and at the Des Moines County Home. She worked for a short time at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Burlington.

She was a member of New London United Methodist Church and a past member of the Lowell Get–Together Club. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, crossword puzzles, cards and being around people.

She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Beckel of New London; four granddaughters; eight great–grandchildren; and four great–great–grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters and a half sister.

There will be no visitation.

The graveside service for Mrs. Erickson will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Burge Cemetery , New London.

A memorial has been established for her church.

Elliott Chapel in New London is in charge of arrangements.

Georgetta Thompson

Georgetta Thompson, 86, of Davenport, died Saturday Feb. 26, 2005, at Davenport Lutheran Home.

Born Nov. 2, 1918, in Davenport, she was the daughter of Richard S. and Anna Rasmussen Condon. On Aug. 31, 1940, she married Glenn E. Thompson at Sacred Heart Cathedral at Davenport.

She was secretary to the manager of C, D, & M Railway.

She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and served as past president of Catholic Charities and Sacred Heart Cathedral PTA. She attended and graduated from Brown's Business College, Davenport.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn of Davenport; one daughter, Connie Storck of Burlington; two granddaughters; and four great–grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Halligan McCabe De Vries Funeral Home at Davenport, where a Christian Wake Service will be at 6:30 p.m.

The funeral and Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Thompson, 86, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church at Davenport. Burial will in Mount Calvary Cemetery at Davenport.

A memorial has been established to St. Anthony's Catholic Church or Davenport Lutheran Home.

Evelyn Yuskis

Evelyn Anna Jaeger Lackscheide Yuskis, 86, of Sutter, Ill., died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Methodist Hospital in Peoria, Ill.

Born July 19, 1918, in Sutter, she was she daughter of Christian and Susanna Frederika Nee Mulch Jaeger. On Aug. 11, 1938, she married Arthur William "Rudy" Lackscheide in Keokuk. He died Nov. 12, 1956. On Jan. 15, 1966, she married John Joseph Yuskis in Sutter.

Mrs. Yuskis was a 1936 graduate of Hamilton High School and a graduate of Quincy Beautician School. She was baptized at Bethlehem Evangelical & Reform Church in Sutter and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Church in Warsaw, Ill. She was a member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Sutter, the Wythe Social Circle and Rocky Run Home Extension. She was fond of baking pies and working in her flower gardens. She enjoyed camping.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters Darlene Harrell and Connie Jacquot, both of Carthage, Ill., and Barbara Kunz and Rosalee Meyer, both of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great–grandchildren.

Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lamporte Funeral Home in Hamilton, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Yuskis will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Duane McDonough officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem United Church of Christ Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Evelyn Moeller

Evelyn E. Moeller, 92, of Houghton, died at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at West Point Care Center. Arrangements are pending at Link Funeral Home in West Point.

Virginia Williams

Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Williams, 91, of Danville, will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 18, at the Danville United Church of Christ. Pastor Dan Buck will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in rural Danville. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, March 17, at Elliott Chapel, New London. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Chapel and again Saturday morning from 10:00 until time of the service at the church. A memorial has been established.

Donald Enslow

Donald L. Enslow, 82, of Galesburg, Ill., formerly of Monmouth, Ill., died at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Heartland Health Care in Galesburg.

Born Aug. 28, 1922, in Bald Bluff, Ill., he was the son of Lute and Truie F. Walters Enslow. On May 5, 1951, he married Eleanor Miller in Woodstock, Ill.

Mr. Enslow worked for General Telephone in Kewanee, Ill., for 30 years and served as area supervisor. He then worked for seven years as purchasing director at Monmouth Hospital.

He attended schools in Aledo and Seaton, Ill., and was a graduate of Monmouth High School. He also attended Monmouth College. He was a World War II Army veteran with the rank of tech. sergeant. He was a prisoner of war from March 1944 to June 1945 in Germany at Stalag Lufft I. He was one of the original founders of Monmouth Jaycees Chapter and a member of Aledo Post 1571 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also was one of the founders of the Representative Party in Monmouth and served as a Third Ward alderman from 1961 to 1968. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He enjoyed woodworking and playing pool.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Diane McCann of Monmouth and Debra Bond of Kewanee; one son, D. Jeff Enslow of Eldridge; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

There will be no visitation or calling hours. The body has been cremated.

A private graveside service with military honors will be in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Western Illinois Kidney Unit.

Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth is in charge of arrangements.
