Susan J. Petersen, 70, of Davenport, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at Genesis West, Davenport.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today. Burial is in Maysville cemetery .

She was born Nov. 22, 1935. She married Burton Petersen May 10, 1957. He died Jan. 16, 1983.

Survivors are son, Steve (wife, Joan), Eldridge; daughter, Sherri Evans, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Trent, Eric, Aubrey and Andy; brother, James Smith, Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Maxine Fawcett Davis.

Harry Ralfs
Harry H. Ralfs, 89, of Davenport, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at Genesis East, Davenport.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Runge, Davenport. Burial is in Walcott cemetery . Visitation is 9 a.m. to services.

Harry was born Jan. 3, 1917. He married Loretta Schreck in 1941. She died in 1992. He married Jean Moeller Feb. 14, 1993.

Survivors are his wife; children, Sandra Paskvan, Moline, Steven, Durant, Kimberly Ploysa, Colorado; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepchildren; six stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother.

Daniel Schmidt
Services for Daniel S. Schmidt, 79, of Davenport, are 11:30 a.m. Friday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

He died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at home.

He was born Sept. 18, 1926, to Oscar and Frances Schmidt. He married Katherine Wormley Nov. 12, 1955.

Survivors are wife; children, Daniel, Ames, Iowa, Julie Urban, Mary Collins, Thomas, Sarah Cummins, all Davenport, Ann Vose, Mankato, Minn., Michael, Wilton, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; sister, Mary Corneliussen, Virginia.

Dorothy L. Blaser, 77, of Rock Island, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Helga `Sally' MacMillan
Helga E. "Sally" MacMillan, 94, of Rock Island, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Amber Ridge Assisted Living, Moline.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Broadway Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, where she was a member. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island Art Guild.

The former Sally Sahlmark was born Aug. 10, 1911, in Ludington, Mich., a daughter of Joseph and Esther Sudeberg Sahlmark. The second oldest of four children, her parents were Swedish immigrants who were prominent in their community. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1935, being active in Alpha Chi Omega sorority. In college, she developed an interest in art, which was to become her lifelong passion and avocation.

Upon graduation, she first worked for the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, and later for Herman Miller of Grand Rapids, Mich., where she was an interior designer. While in Grand Rapids, she met Charles MacMillan, whom she married June 14, 1941. He died Sept. 13, 1992. With the advent of World War II, the couple moved to Washington, D.C., where Charles served in the Ordnance Department. There they had two sons, James and Frederick.

After the end of World War II, the family moved to Pompano Beach, Fla. It was there that Sally continued to develop her art. She painted hundreds of simple still-life arrangements for Marshall Fields, studied under local prominent artists in Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale, and began showing her art.

In 1950, the family moved to Rock Island, where Charles became chief engineer for Bear Manufacturing Co. Pursuing an outlet for her art, Sally fostered art appreciation in the Quad-Cities. Her paintings were offered by Healey Eckmann & Co. as part of its home furnishings line, the first woman artist to be so recognized in the area. She founded the Rock Island Art Guild, a cultural force in the Quad-Cities to this day, and later cofounded MAKA Art Gallery, the first commercial art gallery in the Quad-Cities. Her works received national prominence with the purchase and publication of four of her paintings in Ford Times by the Ford Motor Co.

Mrs. MacMillan received numerous honors and awards for her art. She was accorded one-woman art shows by Augustana College, the Quad City Botanical Center and MAKA Gallery. She received the Harley Award from the Riverssance Fine Arts Festival, and the Rock Island Art Guild instituted its annual Sally MacMillan Watercolor Award in her honor. Her works are held in the finest homes and corporations in the area, as well as by Dartmouth College, Augustana College, the Muscatine Art Center and the Figge Art Museum.

She is survived by her sons, James, Modesto, Calif., and Frederick, Dublin, N.H.; her sister, Gladys, Cross Lake, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Rachael, Ursula, Kirsten, Andrew, Tristan, Clarke, Marcia and Becki; and several nieces and nephews, who all remember her as a loving and talented aunt.

Maurice Peters
Maurice Peters, 65, of Rock Island, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline.

Robert Bunch II
Memorial services for Robert Maurice Bunch II, 65, of Lexington, S.C., will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 31, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ascension Hospice, 226 State St., West Columbia, SC 29169.

He died Saturday, March 25, 2006.

Mr. Bunch was born in Springfield, Ill. He was the son of the late Robert Maurice and Louberta Nelson Bunch. Mr. Bunch was a construction manager with Nation Wireless Construction.

Survivors include his wife, Debra G. Bunch; son, Jeremy Jones; and sister, Judith Little, Moline. Mr. Bunch was predeceased by his sons, Robert M. Bunch III and Jeffery Bunch.

Louise Peirce
Louise Kemp Peirce, 88, of Moline, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at her home.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline, where further arrangements are pending.

Raymond Rose
Raymond L. Rose, 63, of Byron, Ill., died Sunday morning, March 26, 2006, in his home in Byron where he had lived for 62 years.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Seward Congregational Church with the Rev. Ron Farb, pastor, officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Twelve Mile Grove cemetery , Pecatonica, Ill. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.

He was born April 22, 1942, in Rockford, Ill., son of Walter and Doris Fry Rose. He married Ella Helmerick in Boswell, Ind., Sept. 9, 1967.

He was a lifelong member of Seward Congregational Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher. He was a graduate of Byron High School, Class of 1960, and was an Army veteran.

He farmed in the area, farrowed pigs and drove trucks. He also was a proud member of Local 150 of the International Union of Operating Engineers, where he was an operator and mechanic. He worked in the Moline area with the union.

He had a broad range of friends across the nation.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Ella; daughter, Carolyn Cooper, Minneapolis, Minn.; son, David Rose, Novi, Mich.; sister, Lorraine (James) Anderson, Crystal Lake, Ill.; brother, Walter (Kathy) Rose, Leaf River, Ill.; nieces, Tari (Ade) Book and Pam (Guy) Rose-Doubleday; nephews, Walter (Kim) Rose, Scott (Dani) Anderson and Chad (Shelley) Helmerick; and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family expresses thanks to their family, friends and medical staff for all their support.

Arthur Coziahr
Arthur B. Coziahr, 87, of Wataga, Ill., died Friday, March 24, 2006, at St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Hinchliff-Pearson-West, Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. David Kramer will officiate. Visitation was 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to Wataga Congregational Church or Wataga Drop-in Center.

He was born May 5, 1918, in Rio, son of Arthur B. and Mildred Murray Coziahr Sr. He graduated from Wataga High School. He married Faye E. Seward in Palmyra, Mo., on Oct. 7, 1939. He served in the Army as a tank driver during World War II.

He was a driver for Burlington Truck Lines. He then worked for Sinclair Refinery Pipeline Co. in Dahinda, Ill., for nine years. He farmed in the Avon and Orion area for 11 years. He also worked in sales and management for Arco Fertilizer Plant and Morman Seed and Fertilizer in Woodhull.

He lived in Wataga the past 23 years. He was a member of the Senior Citizens in Wataga. He was a past member of the Masonic Lodge of Orion and a past member of the Wataga Lions Club. He was a member of Wataga Congregational Church for 22 years. He was very active in his church. His family was always first.

Survivors (and spouses) are wife; daughter, Pam (Carl) Glawe, Geneseo; one brother, Marvin "Pete" (Marge) Coziahr, Galesburg; three sisters, Elsie Law, Cambridge, Doris Williams, Victoria, Ill., and Alice (Jay) McGee, Altona; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dennis A. Coziahr on March 20, 2000, and James Coziahr on Dec. 26, 1998; four brothers and four sisters.

Patricia Crane
Patricia Ann Crane, 68, of Colona, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at her residence.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Dayton Corners cemetery , Colona. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to Colona Community Fire and Rescue and Beacon of Hope Hospice. Family Funeral Services, Colona, is handling the arrangements.

She was born Dec. 17, 1937, in Davenport, to Edward F. and Ruth L. Zuber Wilkey. She married Robert L. Carlson Jan. 17, 1956, in Lancastor, Mo. She later married Jerry R. Crane Jan. 22, 1971, in Geneseo. He preceded her in death June 9, 1995.

She managed a storage unit in Palm Springs, Calif. She enjoyed playing bingo, yard sales, flea markets, refinishing furniture and painting.

Survivors include her mother, Ruth Pustelnik, Colona; daughter, Vickie Gilpin, Rancho Mirage, Calif.; three sons, Ronald L. Carlson, East Moline, Rodger Carlson, Colona, Gregory Crane, West Covina, Calif.; four grandchildren; sister, Barbara Gradert, Venice, Fla.; three brothers, Duane Wilkey, Azle, Texas, Jeffrey Wilkey, Surprise, Ariz., James W. Hawkins, Casper, Wyo.

Kenneth Heaton
Kenneth "Ken" C. Heaton, 73, of Neponset, Ill., died Sunday, March 26, 2006, in the emergency room of Kewanee Hospital.

Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic, Kewanee. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rux, Kewanee, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Burial is in Mount Olivet cemetery , Kewanee, with military rites.

He was born Oct. 30, 1932, in Stark County, Ill., to Lester and Hazel Harmon Heaton. He married Sylvia M. Swearingen Feb. 9, 1957.

Survivors (and spouses) are his wife; brothers, Willis (Leona) Heaton, Bradford, Ill., Leland (Betty) Heaton, Kewanee.

Robert Kelly
Robert L. Kelly, 80, of Aledo, formerly of Illinois City, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at the Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo, with the Rev. Carl Stoldt officiating. Burial is in Aledo cemetery , where military rites will be conducted by Mercer County VFW Post 1571. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. He was born July 14, 1925, in Wyoming, Ill., a son of Harold and Gladys Vest Kelly. He graduated from Aledo High School. He married Idamae Kendall Oct. 13, 1946, in Hamlet, Ill.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps.

Bob farmed for 12 years in Atalissa, Iowa, Hamlet and Buffalo Prairie, Ill. He was then employed as a buyer and seller for 30 years with the Heinold Hog Market, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of Buffalo Prairie Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed bowling, driving pony carts and playing cribbage and was an avid Cubs fan.

He is survived by his wife, Idamae; four daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Donald Workman, Illinois City, Kristin and Bruce Kellums, Taylor Ridge, Patricia and Joseph Uebelhor, Martinsville, Ind., and Emily Lynn Bowden, Fort Collins, Colo.; one son and daughter-in-law, Kendall "Butch" and Mary Beckey Kelly, Cedar Falls, Iowa; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Frank `Chick' Olson
Frank "Chick" Olson, 78, of Keithsburg, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at his home.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Keithsburg, with the Rev. John Thieryoung officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery , Keithsburg, where military services will be conducted by Mercer County VFW Post 1571. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. He was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Bald Bluff, Henderson County, Ill., a son of Ed and Elizabeth Haney Olson. He attended Henderson County schools. He married LaVonne Smith Feb. 21, 1969, in Oquawka.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Chick farmed all his life and owned the Bald Bluff Historical Spot, opening his farm and bluff area to the general public. He assisted with the Henderson County Heritage Trail Bald Bluff climb for 20 years. He maintained the bluff and his cabin after retirement, making daily trips to the area. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling and visiting.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, LaVonne; stepsons, Dennis Smith and fiancee, Diane Oberhardt, Moline, Gerald (Cindy) Smith, Bowling Green, Ky.; three grandchildren, Paul (Alisha) Smith, Belle Plaine, Iowa, Annalise Smith, Moline, Melissa McGhee, Florida; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Pratt, Burlington, Iowa, Edith Diehl, Monmouth, Mary Steele, Monmouth; sister-in-law, Lelia Olson, Monmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
