Richard Lindell
Richard E. Lindell, of Waco, Texas, formerly of Orion, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2006, and is now with our Great Lord.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 246. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline, or the Alzheimer's Association.

Mr. Lindell was born to Chester and Hildur Swanson Lindell on Jan. 21, 1926, in Moline. He was united in holy matrimony to Ardeth K. Peterson on Oct. 4, 1952. They had a long and happy marriage for 53 years. After marrying, they were blessed with a son, Richard E. Lindell Jr. of Coal Valley. To this union, a daughter was born, Susan D. Holgersson-Lyles of Waco, Texas.

Mr. Lindell was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea. He was a farmer and contractor, and he also owned apartment buildings.

Mr. Lindell enjoyed traveling the United States, especially to Alaska. He also enjoyed making dollhouses, rocking chairs and other pieces of furniture. He also liked to play cards. His favorite type of music was piano, especially his granddaughter's playing.

Mr. Lindell was active at Christ Lutheran Church, Waco. He was always known for helping out. For seven winters he built houses for the poor in Mexico.

Mr. Lindell and his little "pranks" will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Wesley Woods and Providence Hospice for their excellent care of our husband, brother, father, grandfather and uncle during his last days.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife of 53 years, Ardeth Lindell; son, Richard E. (Claudia) Lindell Jr., Coal Valley; daughter, Susan Holgersson-Lyles and Dennis Lyles, Waco; grandchildren, Nils (Migdalia) Holgersson, Santa Clara, Calif., Linnea Holgersson, Katy, Texas, Erika Holgersson, Waco, Nicholas Lindell, Coal Valley, Carli Sue (Kip) Taufer, Peoria, Ill.; sister, Genevieve Samuelson, Indian Head Park, Ill.; foster daughter, Brenda Hunt, Alpha; foster granddaughter, Sara Hunt; nephews, Paul (Helen) Samuelson, Las Vegas, Nev., Robert Samuelson, St. Charles, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dixie Stephens
Dixie L. Stephens, 62, of Colona, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Schroder Mortuary, Silvis. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. today at the mortuary. Additional visitation will be one hour before the funeral on Monday.

She was born Nov. 26, 1943, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Verdie and Betty Speck Sheese. She married Billy Stephens Nov. 23, 1966, in Peoria, Ill.

She retired as a sales clerk from the Greenpark Pharmacy in Colona.

Survivors (and spouses) are her husband, Bill; her mother, Betty Bacorn; daughters, Kathleen Hawke, Australia, Lisa Byers, Rochester, Ind.; sons, Randy, Auburndale, Fla., Mike, Colona, and Phillip, Greensburg, Pa.; sisters, Karen Lonstad, Colona; brother, Dale Sheese, Winterheaven, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Sheese.

Ron Engle
Ron Engle, 49, of Davenport, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at Meadow Lawn Health Care, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport.

Elsie Hein
Elsie I. Hein, 98, of Davenport, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, in Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

Angeline Lane
Angeline Lane, 74, of Kenosha, Wis., formerly of Davenport, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at home.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Monday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. today. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park.

She was born March 25, 1931. She married Floyd Lane July 30, 1950.

Survivors are husband; children, Gary, Brenda Jensen, both Fox Lake, Ill., Steve, Davenport, Larry, Melody Lenius, both Kenosha; siblings, Donna Farnsworth, Linda Harvey, Sandy Kane, Harold, Gene, LeRoy, Darrel Farnsworth; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Viola Thompson
Viola M. Thompson, 91, of Bettendorf and Yuma, Ariz., died Friday, March 24, 2006, at Palmer Hills Retirement Center, Bettendorf.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service, Davenport.

Marie Campana
Marie Campana, 83, of Andrew, Iowa, formerly of Rock Island, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa, Iowa.

John `Jack' Lannen
John "Jack" P. Lannen, 76, of Rock Island, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday, with a Moose Lodge 190 service at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the National cemetery , Arsenal Island, where the Rock Island VFW 1303 will be conducting military honors.

Jack was born Feb. 6, 1930, the son of Francis and Nellie Witherspoon Lannen. He married Patricia Schenebricker Arndt in 1974, and she preceded him in death in 1992. Jack later married Beverly Dean McKinley in Rock Island.

Mr. Lannen worked as a truck driver for General Asphalt.

He was a member of the Local Union 371, Moose Lodge 190, where he held the highest degree as a Pilgrim, and the Western Illinois Moose Legion 112.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; children (and spouses), Katherine A. Leaf-Melia, Milan, Patrick John (Cathy) Lannen, DeWitt, Iowa, Nellie Johnson, East Moline, Deborah Bergheger, Rock Island, Donald E. (Twyla) Lannen, East Moline, Michael J. (Patricia) Lannen, East Moline; stepson (and spouse), David M. (Debra) McKinley Sr., Rock Island; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Lannen.

Alfred Sabbe
Alfred A. "Fred" Sabbe, 82, of Rock Island, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at his home.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, where he was a member. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a Christian wake service at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island.

Alfred was born Oct. 13, 1923, in Rock Island, a son of Henry and Yvonne Taghon Sabbe. He married Mary Louise Teresa Kinkead on June 14, 1947, in Moline. He was a World War II veteran. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the European Campaign.

Alfred was co-sexton of Calvary cemetery , Rock Island, for 12 years with his father, Henry. Upon Henry's retirement, Alfred worked at the John Deere Plow and Planter Works, retiring in 1983.

He was a former member of the Belgian Culture Center, Moline. In his earlier years he was an avid and talented bowler. His other interests included collecting baseball cards and NASCAR racing. He particulary enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Sabbe, Rock Island; children, Jeanette Collins, and her husband, Bob, Rock Island, and Robert A. Sabbe, Rock Island; grandchildren (and spouses), Melissa (Rob) Melton, Moline, and Amber (James) Stotts, Marion, Iowa; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dick Sabbe, Moline. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers.

Fred Sajak
Fred R. Sajak, 91, of Rock Island, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery , Rock Island. Military honors will be conducted by the Milan American Legion No. 569/200 and the Rock Island VFW No. 1303. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. Memorials may be made to the church.

Fred was born Oct. 6, 1914, in Matherville, the son of Jacob and Kathryn Laciak Sajak. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor.

Mr. Sajak married Shirley I. West on Sept. 9, 1945, in Davenport. She preceded him in death on Jan. 31, 1991.

Fred worked as a machine repairman in the U.S. Army and later for International Harvester Farmall Works for 30 years, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the Pearl Harbors Survivors Association, and a 60-year member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island.

Fred enjoyed gardening and working with machines.

Survivors include four children (and spouses), Jill (Terry) Mewes, Milan, Ward Sajak, James (Norma) Sajak, and Mary Sajak, all of Rock Island; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Victor Sajak, Rock Island, and Henry Sajak, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; brothers, Jacob Sajak and Rudy Sajak; sister, Mildred Lossart; and special friend, Juanita McNall.

Corabelle `Cork' Hoogheem
Corabelle "Cork" M. Hoogheem, 77, of Moline, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 26, from 4-7 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Services will be private. Burial will be in Fulton cemetery . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association or First Congregational Church, Moline.

Corabelle was born March 30, 1928, in Fulton, to Elmer and Jeannetta Amman Wiersema. She married Lyle P. Hoogheem on June 25, 1948, in Fulton.

Corabelle was a part time bookkeeper for First of America Bank. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline. She was a 50-year life member of the Merton Chapter 356 O.E.S. Fulton.

Survivors (and spouses) include her husband, Lyle Hoogheem, Moline; sons, Tom (Rebecca) Hoogheem, St. Louis, Mo., Tim (Virgina) Hoogheem, Golden, Colo.; daughter, Debbie (Bruce) Payne, Englewood, Colo.; grandchildren, Katharine, Kristen and Sarah Hoogheem, St. Louis, Mo., Aimee, Elizabeth and Benjamin Hoogheem, Golden, Mo., Christopher and Jonathon Payne, Englewood, Colo. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Stephen and James.

Ardith Haas
Ardith Marie "Ardie" Haas, 78, of Milan, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Oak Glenn Nursing Home, Coal Valley.

A memorial visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorial Mass will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Ambrose Church, Milan, with a reception to follow at the Milan Community Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alternatives for the Older Adult.

Ardie was born on June 11, 1927, the only child of Mamie and Ernie Bleuer. She was a proud graduate of Rock Island High School and a first-chair trombone player. On Oct. 18, 1957, she was united in marriage to John F. Haas in Galesburg.

While raising children, Ardie was a homemaker who enjoyed donating time at schools, volunteering in the community and supported her children and grandchildren in numerous sporting events.

She enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Florida, and entertaining friends and family. Her true passions were reading, flower gardening and chocolate.

Ardith had a wonderful and caring personality, and loved spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. Ardie brought joy into all the lives she touched, and she will be greatly missed.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, John; children, Jim Haas, Rock Island, Patricia and John Hajny, Milan, Dave and Jeff Trimble and their children, grandchildren, Laura, Joseph and Jacob; a very special cousin, Harold "Squirt" Bleuer and his wife, Audrey; numerous cousins and friends who were loved by Ardie.

Evelyn `Evie' Bickers
Evelyn L. "Evie" Bickers, 87, of Atkinson, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Geneseo.

A Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Atkinson. Monsignor Don Fitzpatrick will celebrate. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's cemetery , Atkinson. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson, where the rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be left to the Evelyn Bickers Memorial Fund.

Evie was born on Jan. 29, 1919, in Atkinson, the daughter of Harry "Puss" and Blanche Vandersnick Hoogerwerf. She married Ottis "Beans" Bickers on June 5, 1937, in Atkinson. He preceded her in death in 1981.

Evie drove a school bus for Bill Elys, Bert Swanson, and later the Atkinson Community School District for 30 years. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and their Altar and Rosary Society. Evie enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and their sporting events and activities.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Rich Gentry, Atkinson; two grandsons and spouses, Mitch and Lisa Gentry, Atkinson, Nick and Mary Jo Gentry, Muskegon, Mich.; five great-grandchildren, Logan and Lauren Gentry, and Madison, Tanner and McKeena Gentry. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Serafino `Sam' Curcuru
Serafino "Sam" Curcuru, 61, of Geneseo, and a longtime Geneseo businessman, died suddenly Friday, March 24, 2006, in Geneseo.

Arrangements are pending Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo.

Among survivors is his wife, Jean.
