Helen Wendt
Helen Louise Wendt, 87, of Moline, died Monday, March 20, 2006, at Aspen Rehab and Health Care, Silvis.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 25, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Moline. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church in Moline, the First Presbyterian Church in East Moline, the St. Francis Children's Hospital in Peoria, Ill., or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Helen Louise McClean was born June 19, 1918, to William and Frances Roos McClean in Moline. She was a graduate of Moline High School, and a former "M" Queen. She married Earl L. Wendt on Feb. 29, 1936, in Hammond, Ind. He died in 1967.

Helen was a member of the First Congregational Church in Moline, and a member of Chapter KT PEO, as well as the first president of Chapter IS PEO. She was a 50-year member of Elizabeth Jane Breshear Circle of King's Daughters, a life member of the Illinois Branch of King's Daughters, a member of the Rock Island County Historical Society, of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and of Short Hills Country Club. She was, in the past, employed part-time at the former Fancy Filly Apparel shop in Moline.

Survivors include four sons, Earl "Buck" and Coralie Wendt, Moline, George and Jeanie Wendt, Bloomington, Ill., Michael and Pamela Wendt, Moline, and Patrick and Candace Wendt, East Moline; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Paradise, Glendale, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Mary Jane McClean, Moline; nine nieces and seven nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, William R. Wendt; one grandson; one sister, Margaret Freeman; and two brothers, William McClean and John R. "Dick" McClean.

Maurice Hopkins Sr.
Maurice James Hopkins Sr., 85, of East Moline, died Friday, March 17, 2006, at River Park Healthcare Center, Rock Island.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, at Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church, East Moline, with private burial on Monday at National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline.

Maurice was born March 2, 1921, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Thomas and Mae Street Hopkins. He married Sylvia Smith on May 2, 1940, in Galesburg, and then Donzella Lawrence on April 30, 1949, in East Moline.

He worked for John Deere Harvester, East Moline, for more than 25 years, retiring in 1982. Maurice was a member of Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church and loved fishing, barbecuing and traveling. In his younger years, he played baseball. Maurice was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his daughters (and sons-in-law), Darlene (Sonnie) Watson, Palm Springs, Calif., Esther Rowe, Hanover Park, Ill., Donnie (Henry) Hall, East Moline; sons (and daughters-in-law), Maurice J. (Loretta) Hopkins Jr., Garden Grove, Calif., Bruce (Linda) Miller, Houston, Texas, and Duane (Patricia) Hopkins, Artesia, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Edna Hopkins and Geraldine Hopkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Mildred Fitch
Mildred E. Fitch, 99, Prairie City, Ill., formerly of Bushnell, Ill., died Monday, March 20, 2006, at Prairie City Health Care Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell. The Rev. Trisha Chapman will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Burial will be in Bushnell cemetery . Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

She was born Jan. 27, 1907, in Roseville, Ill., to Albert A. and Mary Ellen Cassidy Richter. She attended school in Roseville and Bushnell. She married Floyd D. Fitch Oct. 27, 1923, in Prairie City. He preceded her in death April 1, 1990.

Survivors (and spouses) are her sons, Earl (Elva) Fitch, Hannibal, Mo., George (Maribelle) Fitch, Mendota, Ill., and Albert (Suzane) Fitch, Orion; daughter, Margaret (Earl) Crandall, East Moline; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Benham, Prairie City. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Emma Sinnett.

Fern Martin
Fern L. Martin, 94, of Aledo, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Courtyard Estates, Monmouth.

A gathering is 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist, Stillwater, Minn., with graveside services in Houlton cemetery , Houlton Township, Wis. Arrangements are by Fippinger, Aledo.

She was born Dec. 22, 1911. She married Selmer Anderson in 1938. He died in 1957. She later married George Martin in 1958.

Survivors are daughters, Sue Lehrer and Sharon Shoemaker, both Aledo; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, James Hill, Mildred Gilbert.

Sheryl Stiener Peterson
Sheryl L. Stiener Peterson, 35, of Plainfield, Ill., formerly of Colona, died Monday, March 20, 2006, in Plainfield.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Estates, Moline. Memorials may be made to the family.

The former Sheryl L. Brown was born Aug. 2, 1970, in Rock Island. She married Todd Peterson on Nov. 19, 1988, in Geneseo.

Sheryl was a 1988 graduate from Geneseo High School and graduated from Western Illinois University, Macomb, with a degree in social work.

She was a homemaker. Sheryl was very creative and enjoyed crafts.

Survivors include her children, Marcus and Megan Peterson, both Shorewood, Ill.; parents, Mike and Marlee Stiener, Colona; sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen Pittenger, Geneseo, Susan and Loren Bonser, Baltimore, Md., and Angie and James Fewell, Colona; brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Jenny Stiener, Bettendorf, and Matt and April Stiener, Watertown, S.D.; four nieces; four nephews; and a special friend, Karl Schmitz. She was preceded in death by her father, Dan Brown.

Elden Poppy
Elden W. Poppy, 71, of Cambridge, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at the East Pasco Care Center, Dade City, Fla.

Arrangements are pending at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge.

Joy Cook
Services for Joy Cook, 56, of Davenport, are 11 a.m. Saturday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park at a later date. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Joy died March 21, 2006, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

She was born in 1949. She married Fred Cook in 1970. He died in 2002.

Survivors are daughters, Stephanie Poggenpohl, Walcott, Janelle, Eldridge; three grandchildren; father, John Simatovich, Davenport; siblings, Beverly Curtis, Walcott, Nancy Lefler, Roger Simatovich, both Davenport.

Herbert Felske
Herbert L. Felske, 52, of Blue Grass, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006.

Services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 1 p.m. to services. Cremation will follow services.

Herbert was born to Herbert and Dorothy Felske May 12, 1953. He married Debra Colby April 11, 1975.

Survivors are wife; children, Nicole Mathes, Davenport, Herbert, Iowa City, Iowa; grandchildren, Taylor and Brady Mathes, Davenport; sister, Trudie Heldgenbergh, Florida; brothers, Fritz, Andrew, and mother, Dorothy Felske, all Davenport.

Paul Huff
Paul M. Huff, 90, of Davenport, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Manor Care Health Center in Davenport.

Arrangments are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service, Davenport.

Evelyn Hyer
Evelyn L. Hyer, 91, of Eldridge, formerly of rural Kewanee, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Genesis West, Davenport.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Schueneman & Tumbleson, Kewanee. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Elmira, Ill., cemetery .

She was born Aug. 7, 1914, in Modale, Iowa, the daughter of Claude and Lina Baer Bennett. She married Edward Hyer Dec. 13, 1941. He died in 1996.

She had helped her husband for many years with the family farm in rural Wethersfield Township.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Karen Hyer, Eldridge; three grandchildren, Daniel, Shawn and Jill; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bob, in 2001, and a brother and sister.

Deronta Jamison
Deronta Jamison, 29, of Davenport, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport.

Frances Oaks
Frances A. Oaks, 86, of Davenport, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at the Kahl Home, Davenport.

Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Runge, Davenport. Cremation will follow services, with inurnment at a later date in Monmouth Memorial Park. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday.

She was born Nov. 23, 1919. She married John Oaks March 3, 1941. He died in 1980.

Survivors are children, Lawrence, Bettendorf, Pamela Kinkade, Rapids City; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Ted Cooper, Monmouth; sister, Ruby Garland, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Bernice Truedson
Bernice M. Truedson, 87, Rock Island, formerly of Bettendorf, died March 21, 2006, at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.

Services are 11:30 a.m. Friday at Runge, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. to services.

She was born Aug. 30, 1918. She married Donald Truedson Dec. 18, 1948. He died Jan. 30, 2003.

Surviving are brother, Earl Smith, Bettendorf; four nieces including Becky Schneider, Geneseo; nephews, Steve Clough, Davenport, Doug Clough, East Moline; nine grandnieces and -nephews; and two great-grandnieces.

Maybeth Bjork
Maybeth Bjork, former resident of Rock Island, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2006, in Sun City West, Ariz.

A memorial service will be held 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at First Covenant Church, 3303 41st St., Moline. The committal will take place at 11 a.m. at National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to First Covenant Church. Arrangements are being handled by Menke Funeral Home in Sun City, Ariz.

Maybeth was married to the late Clifford Bjork.

She was a gifted artist, avid golfer, former member of First Covenant Church, Moline, and life-long member of Oakwood Country Club. Her gifts of compassion, hospitality and friendship will be greatly missed.

She is survived by three children, Barbara Duhlstine-Robarge, Sun City, Bruce Bjork, Rock Island, and James Bjork, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

William `Pat' Flynn
William P. "Pat" Flynn, 89, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Trinity Pathway Hospice at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where further arrangements are pending.

Olga `Alice' La Hue
Olga F. "Alice" La Hue, 90, of Rock Island died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Bonnie Borden
Bonnie Jean Borden, 54, of Moline died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at her home.

Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where further arrangements are pending.

Gwynethe Hulett
Gwynethe L. Hulett, 68, of Moline died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Mercy Hospice, Johnston, Iowa.

Arrangements are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline.

Josefa Rivera Perez
Josefa Rivera Perez, Moline, died peacefully surrounded by her children, Friday June 9, 2006, at Aspen Rehab and Health Care, Silvis, after a brief illness.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, by Javariz Funeral Home, after a memorial service was conducted by the Rev. Ramon Rosa. Schroder Mortuary, Silvis, assisted the family with local arrangements.

Josefa was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Isabela, Puerto Rico.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, and cooking for her family and pets.

Surviving are her husband, Luis Rodriguez; three children, Ester, Wilson and George "Pipo;" 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Josefa will be missed by all of her family.
