Lydia Scheff
Lydia Scheff, 56, of Silvis died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Private family services will be held. Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron, is in charge of arrangements.

The former Lydia Kowlaski was born March 26, 1950, in Braunschweig, Germany, the daughter of Michael and Helena Krzeminska Kowlaski. She married Lyle Scheff on Feb. 17, 1990, in Silvis.

She was a member of the Silvis Eagles 1839. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, RoxAnn Scheff and Bessie Scheff, both of Silvis, Traci Crone; a son, Bruce Duncan, Newton, Iowa; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Land, Wildwood, Ill.; and a brother, Andrew Kowlaski, New Port, N.C.

Ruth Snyder
Ruth M. Snyder, 91, of Silvis, formerly of Moline, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorials Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline.

Ruth was born Feb. 1, 1915, in Rio, to Fred and Ellen Marie Carlson Nelson. She married Cecil W. Snyder on June 22, 1938, in North Henderson, Ill. He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 2005.

Ruth was a grocery clerk at Meadow Lane for 11 years. Later she stayed home to raise her family.

Ruth was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline, and was a member of the Joanna Unit of WELCA. She was also a member of Clara Lodge of the Independent Order of Vikings. She enjoyed crocheting andembroidery.

Survivors include sisters, Helen Santel, Moline, Frances Nelson, Moline, Rose Carlson, Moline; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Paula Anderson; a brother, Philip Nelson; and a sister, Ruby VanHoek.

Marvin `Barney' Elliott
Marvin "Barney" Elliott, 73, of Milan, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Pathway Hospice at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, where further arrangements are pending.

John Harney
John E. Harney, 82, of Atkinson died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson.

Sylvia Hutchinson
Sylvia K. Hutchinson, 56, of rural Cambridge, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Hammond-Henry Hospital emergency room, Geneseo.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. Kris Dietzen will officiate. Per her request, cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Inurnment will be in Rosedale cemetery , Cambridge. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Sylvia Hutchinson Memorial Fund.

Sylvia was born on June 18, 1949, in Geneseo, the daughter of Vincent and Bonnie Brennan Leander. She was a 1967 graduate of Cambridge High School. Sylvia married Steve Hutchinson June 23, 1968, in Cambridge.

She had been employed at the Henry County Circuit Clerks Office, Cambridge, for many years. Currently she was a supervisor of corn sorting for Wyffels Hybrids in Atkinson. She was a member of Cambridge Lutheran Church, Cambridge. Sylvia loved her fishing, flowers, angels, cross-stitching and bird watching.

Survivors include her husband, Steven; two sons and spouses, Chad and Susan Hutchinson, Cambridge, Adam and Michelle Hutchinson, stationed with the U.S. Air Force, Anchorage, Alaska; two grandchildren, Katy and Ashley Hutchinson; two stepgrandchildren, John and Brandon Gibbs; her father, Vincent Leander, Cambridge; a brother and spouse, Stephen and Donna Leander, Cambridge; three sisters and spouses, Cynthia Doyle, Barrington, Ill., Sharon and Les Matson, Cambridge, Deborah and Wayne Morris, Cambridge. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bonnie; a son, Jason Hutchinson; and her father-in-law.

Erika Maynard
Erika Kate Maynard, 4-year-old daughter of Rich and Traci Maynard, Muscatine, died Wednesday June 14, 2006, at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, New York City.

Arrangements are pending at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo.

Mary `Betty' Evans
Mary "Betty" Evans, 86, Davenport, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at her residence.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, with 5 p.m. prayers.

She was born June 27, 1919, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Merril and Myrtle Chapman. She married John Evans in 1947. He died in 1982.

Surviving are sons, Jim Evans, Davenport, John Evans, Grand Mound, Iowa; two sisters; three brothers; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Sandy Peisch Kellenberger
Sandy Peisch Kellenberger, 57, Bettendorf, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Julia McNeal
Services for Julia Ann McNeal, 70, of Davenport, are 1 p.m. Saturday at Third Missionary Baptist Church, Davenport, where she was a member.

Visitation is noon to services at the church. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Arrangements are by Orr's, Rock Island.

She was born March 24, 1936, in Barton, Ark., to Sindey and Carrie Norvell.

Surviving are a son, Melvin Warren, Davenport; sisters, Dorothy Griffin, Davenport, Catherine Pool, St. Paul, Minn.; a brother, Raymond Norvell, West Helena, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert McNeal.

John `Ganzo' Puente
John Y. "Ganzo" Puente, 91, Davenport, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at his home.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic, Davenport. Burial is in Mt. Calvary, Davenport. Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport.

He was born Aug. 26, 1914, in Bettendorf. He married Frances Saldivar in 1935. She died in 1997.

Surviving are children, Michael Puente, Rose Marie Vasquez, Bebe De LaCruz, Joanne Weaver, all Davenport, Cecelia Nosa, Iowa City, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Arnold Fredricksen
Arnold H. Fredricksen, 94, of Rock Island, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Friendship Manor, Rock Island.

His body has been cremated. Private inurnment will take place in Oakland cemetery , Clinton, Iowa. Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family.

He was born June 15, 1911, to Jens and Sine Nielsen Fredricksen in DeWitt, Iowa.

A longtime resident of Clinton, Iowa, he was a partner for many years in the Clinton Manufacturing Co., then located in Camanche. Later, he was head buyer for Hawkeye Chemical Co. until his retirement.

Upon retiring, he and his wife, Adeline, moved to Cherokee Village, Ark., where they lived for more than 20 years.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Fredricksen, Oswego, Ill., and Thomas Fredricksen, Wilmette, Ill., and a stepdaughter, Phyllis Babb, Southbury, Conn., and their families.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Dorothy Pierson Fredricksen in 1966 and Adeline Hamilton Fredricksen in 2005.

Carol Funk
Carol E. Funk, 80, formerly of Moline and Galion, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 16, 2006, in Trafford, Pa.

Visitation with family and friends will be on Saturday, June 17, from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Dan W. Sander officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery , Galion.

Verle Wilson Spencer
Verle A. Wilson Spencer, 92, of Moline, died June 12, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, June 14, at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Verle was born in 1913 in Rock Island, daughter of John and Vannie Swanson Wilson. She married Herbert O. Spencer in 1934. He preceded her in death in 1996.

She is survived by her three children (and spouses), Loren (Kathy) Spencer, Moline, Sandra Case, Moline, Susanne (Ron) DeBruyckere, Hillsdale; seven grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Kathy Rice
Kathy Jean Rice, 44, of East Moline, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at her home after a long battle with cancer.

Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Services will follow visitation. In lieu of flowers, an educational fund for Kathy's daughter Courtney has been established. Private committal will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Kathy Nelson was born March 4, 1962, in Moline to John and Jean Bull Nelson. She married Tony Kaskadden in 1979 and they had a son, Kevin Anthony Kaskadden. She later married LeRoy Rice July 9, 1988, in Des Moines. They had a daughter, Courtney.

Over the years, Kathy had worked several jobs, but her favorite job was being a homemaker, wife and mother to her family. She enjoyed NASCAR racing and collecting Isabel Blooms.

Survivors include her husband, LeRoy; daughter, Courtney Leigh Rice, at home; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Lea Kaskadden, Moline; granddaughter, Shelby Ann Kaskadden; parents, John and Carol Jean Nelson, sister and brother-in-law, Stacey and Troy Larson, niece, McKae Larson; nephew, Brock Larson, all of Moline; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Her brother, Kevin Nelson, preceded her in death in 1978.

Robert Riviere
Robert F. Riviere, 90, of East Moline, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Parkview Terrace, East Moline.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial cemetery , Bloomington, Ill.

Bob was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Roanoke, Ill., to Virmin and Rosa Leuriot Riviere. He served in the Navy during World War II. He married Mary Cowan in 1941. She died May 30, 2006.

He was an independent insurance agent beginning in 1962 in the Quad-Cities. Prior to this, he was in sales with Caterpillar. He started his career with Caterpillar on the line, working his way up to foreman. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling.

Survivors (and spouses) include sons, Dr. George (Dr. Holly) Riviere, Tucson, Ariz., Dr. Michael (Rebecca) Riviere, Boston, Mass.; grandchildren, Michael Riviere, Portland, Ore., Katie (Clifford) Butler, Battleground, Wash., Carolyn (Scott) Page, Denver, Colo., Terri (Shawn) Dore, Denver, Michael Riviere Jr., Boston; great-grandchildren, Noah, Graece, Hillary, Connor, Ryan and Hannah; a niece, Penny; and nephew, Lynn. In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria Riviere, and brothers, Raymond and Lynn Riviere.

Robert Tafeal Longueville, 82, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Kewanee Hospital.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial is in Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee, where military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to services.

He was born Dec. 7, 1923, in Kewanee. He married Merle M. Reed May 1, 1947.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife; daughter, Merredith (John) Peterson, Cordova; son, John (Lori) Longueville, Carbondale, Ill.; three grandchildren, Matthew, Julia and Adam Longueville.
