Arthur McKoon
Arthur L. McKoon, 82, of Port Byron, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Visitation will be Friday from 10:30 a.m. to service time. Memorials may be made to the local chapters of the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Mr. McKoon was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Hamilton, Ill., son of Cale and Mary White McKoon. He married Mary Reimbold Oct. 24, 1942, in St. Patrick, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Art retired in 1989 as a foreman at the former John Deere Foundry, Silvis. He enjoyed fishing, boating and camping.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter-in-law, Jolene McKoon, Moline; a grandson and his wife, Douglas and Kathie McKoon, East Moline; great-granddaughters, Hannah and Haylie McKoon. He was preceded in death by a son Arthur J. "Jody" McKoon on Feb. 2, 1993; four brothers and a sister.

Paul Morehead
Paul L. Morehead, 73, of Illinois City, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at his home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Jeffrey S. Nichols Chapel Hill Funeral Home and Crematory, Muscatine. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Genesis Hospice, Davenport. Online condolences may be left for the Morehead family at www.nicholschapelhill.com.

He was born Feb. 11, 1933, Illinois City to Leonard and Margaret Hopp Morehead. He married Beverly Joan Jarvis July 3, 1952, in Muscatine.

He retired as a scheduling supervisor from Farmall/IH in Rock Island. He was a lifelong resident of Illinois City. He was a member of the Illinois City Conservation Club, Moose Lodge, NRA and the local trappers club. He was a past member of the Illinois City Volunteer Fire Department.

He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and gardening.

He will be missed by his wife; sons, Steven, Shawn and his wife Jackie, Muscatine; daughters, Cheryl Hughes and husband, Larry, Moline, Wendy Hedger, Muscatine; grandchildren, Valerie, Amery, Shawn, Danielle and Crystal; great-grandchildren, Leia and Sydney; brother, Kenneth Morehead and wife, Dixie, Muscatine; and sister, Margaret Jean Patterson, Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James in 1968.

Arthur Painter
Arthur P. Painter, 85, of Geneseo, died Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Myers Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, 225 E. Park St., Geneseo. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery , Geneseo, with military services by the American Legion. Visitation will be from noon until service time Friday at Myers Chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Arthur was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Phenix Township, Henry County, son of William L. and Beulah Bell Fones Painter. He graduated from Geneseo High School and went to California to study electrical engineering. Arthur was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard and participating in enemy action at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was awarded two Bronze Stars.

After returning to Illinois, he was appointed Andover Township Road Commissioner until retiring in 1985. Arthur was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2056 and the American Legion Post 2006, both of East Moline. He enjoyed golfing and working with electronics.

Surviving are two brothers, Warren Painter, Geneseo, Frank Painter, East Moline; two sisters, Elnora Melody, Port Byron, and Beulah Ackerman, Dunedin, Fla. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. His parents, three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

Dorothy Wardlow
Dorothy J. Wardlow, 80, of Monmouth, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at her home.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family service is planned by her daughters in Hamilton, Ill. Turnbull Funeral Home, Monmouth, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born June 27, 1925, in Elvaston, Ill., to Raymond and Venetta Sherman Carroll. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1944. She was previously married to Rodney R. Wardlow.

Survivors include her daughters and spouses, Renee Goldie and Monte, Monmouth, Vicki Perrier and Ken, Oxnard, Calif.; grandson, Adam Goldie, Littleton, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Madge Fenton and Mary Beard, Hamilton; one brother, Bill Carroll, Keokuk, Iowa.

Mary `Betty' Evans
Mary "Betty" Evans, 86, of Davenport, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Mary Munchrath
Mary S. Munchrath, 101, of Davenport, died Tuesday, June 12, 2006, at Ridgecrest Retirement Village, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Harry Rechterman
Harry L. Rechterman, 90, of Davenport, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at his home.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran, Davenport. Burial is in Davenport Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday. Cunnick-Collins, Davenport, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Harry Louis Rechterman was born July 30, 1915.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl; son, Paul Rechterman, Kansas City, Mo; grandchildren, Brian and Kara; stepgrandchildren, Douglas and Jessica.

Rose Moore Ryan
Rose Marie Moore Ryan, 85, a resident of the Davenport Good Samaritan Center, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at the center.

Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Davenport, or the Good Samaritan Nursing Center.

She was born March 25, 1921, in Davenport to Peter and Agnes Nord Darell. On Dec. 20, 1943, she was united in marriage to Chalmer S. Moore in Davenport. He preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1961. On Oct. 20, 1973, she was united in marriage to William A. Ryan in Davenport. He preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1999.

Rose was employed as an accounting technician at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1986 after 20 years of service.

She was a longtime and loyal member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, where she had served as an elder and a deacon. She loved being active in the church and also enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. In addition to the church, she was a member of the Davenport Moose Lodge Auxiliary Chapter 106.

Those left to honor her memory (and spouses) include her daughter, Charlene (Charlie) Roenfeldt, Blue Grass; her sons, Dr. Michael (Dr. Deborah) Moore, Kansas City, Kan., Chalmer "Sam" (Sherri) Moore Jr., Davenport; her stepdaughter, Mary (Tom) DeLillie, Moline; her stepsons, Patrick (Ellen) Ryan, Davenport, and Michael Ryan, Fort Madison, Iowa; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Gomez, Pueblo, Colo.; and her brother, Alfred Darell, Bettendorf. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Sally Aschemann.

Mary Sessler
Mary Jane Sessler, 54, of Eldridge, died Monday, June 12, 2006.

Private services will be held. A visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial is in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport.

She was born July 9, 1951. She married Lee Sessler Oct. 31, 1988.

Surviving are her husband; daughters, Mamie Cato, Poplar Bluff, Mo., Kelly and Amber Manary, Davenport, Erin Sessler, Eldridge; son, Scott McKay, Davenport; three grandchildren, Kyle, Amber and Millie; brother, Nolan Meade, Texas.

LeRoy Davidson
The Rev. LeRoy S. Davidson, 78, of Sioux Falls, S.D., died Monday, June 12, 2006, at Sioux Valley Hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Visitation is today at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls.

LeRoy was born May 1, 1928, in Rockford, Ill., son of Richard and Hildur Gustafson Davidson. He married Doris M. Hallin, Jan. 22, 1955, at First Lutheran Church, Rock Island.

He graduated from the University of Illinois and the Augustana Synod Seminary, Rock Island. He was a retired Lutheran (ELCA) pastor.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Doris, daughter, Jennifer (Gregg) Lanners, son, Paul (Shareen) Davidson, four grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, all of Sioux Falls; and a brother, Roger, Rockford. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ralph and Richard.

George Voelcker
George Frederick Voelcker, 83, of Morris, Ill., died Monday, June 12, 2006, at St. James Hospital Hospice Care Center in Chicago Heights, Ill.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Morris, with the Rev. Richard Smith officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fruland Funeral Home, Morris. Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday in Abraham Lincoln National cemetery , Elwood, with full military honors. Memorial gifts may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church, Masses in his name or the donor's choice.

Born Dec. 18, 1922, in Rock Island, he was a son of Frederick and Anna Baltzer Voelcker.

He attended schools in Rock Island and graduated from Rock Island High School. During World War II, he served in the 15th U.S. Air Force in North Africa and Italy and was the recipient of four bronze stars, Meritorious Service, Overseas, Marksman and Good Conduct badges.

A member of Immaculate Conception Church in Morris, he was a third-degree Knight of Columbus in Streator, Ill. In 1961, he was a co-owner of the NAPA store in Morris. He then was employed at John Deere Implement in Sheridan for 15 years.

On Jan. 7, 1977, he married Iva Jean Fancher in First Christian Church in Morris. They moved to California in 1978, where he was employed at the NAPA store in Santa Rosa until his retirement in 1988. They then moved back to Morris, where they have lived since.

George enjoyed golf, euchre, fishing, dancing and dining out.

Survivors (and spouses) include his son, Greg (Joyce), San Jose, Calif., daughters, Gail (Rick) Inkrote, Garland, Texas, Gloria Reed, Dallas, Texas; four stepdaughters, Lois (Mark) Borg, Naples, Fla., Jo Ellen (Danny) Holden, Carolina Beach, N.C., Kathy Peters, Morris, Denise Fancher, Boliva, N.C.; four grandchildren, Cassandra and Kristin, California, Josh and Derek, Texas; eight stepgrandchildren, Timothy and Nathaniel, Carbon Hill, Ill., Lynnese (Chad) Logan, Elburn, Ill., Katie and Kellie, North Carolina, Emily, Florida, Sarah, California, Justin, Florida; three great-grandchildren, Parker, Ryan and Kenny, California; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Lexi and Chad Jr., Elburn, and Gracie, North Carolina; two sisters, Elizabeth Golick, Davenport, Lillian Ekstam, Moline; and several nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Don; and a sister, Marguerite Paul.

Lillian Atwater
Mrs. Lillian E. Atwater, 95, of Moline, passed away Monday, June 12, 2006, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, Ill. Burial will be in LaHarpe cemetery . The family will meet with friends Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Beecher or LaHarpe Christian Church.

She was born Nov. 27, 1910, in Biggsville, Ill., to Amory and Margaret Bigger McCartney. On April 23, 1933, she married Lee Atwater in Mount Carroll, Ill. He preceded her in death Nov. 14, 1981.

She was a graduate of Oquawka High School and Western Illinois University, Macomb. She taught in various schools for 26 years, the last 12 in Monee, Ill. She was a resident of Beecher, Ill., for 38 years and moved to Moline eight years ago. She was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ, the church's Women's Guild, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, the Women's Club and Senior Citizens, all in Beecher. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by two nephews and seven nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Martha McCartney; three brothers, Albert, Sammuel and Preston McCartney; and one nephew.

Steven Ontiveros
Steven Andrew Ontiveros, 51, of Moline, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 17, at 2 p.m. at the River Music Experience, 131 W. 2nd St., Davenport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to establish a fund to benefit Steve's passionate projects for the preservation of our environment. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline. is assisting the family.

He was born Jan. 2, 1955, in Moline to John and Josephine Ontiveros. He was the owner of Steven Andrew's Hair Design in downtown Moline.

Steve had a legacy in the Quad-Cities area and beyond for being the most humorous and fun-loving guy. Everyone loved Steve and his off-the-wall spontaneous actions. Deeply passionate about the outdoors and our environment, Steve spent a lot of his time contributing to Earth-friendly foundations in making our world a better place one small step at a time. Not only did he help hundreds of people, he also changed many people's lives for the better.

Steve is now starting another life above and probably already has begun living it to the fullest. As he would have wanted, let's use some of Steve's philosophies in our present life to improve our environment and to help others. He will live on in all of our hearts, for just the name Steven Andrew still will put a smile on our faces.

Steve is survived by his brothers and sisters (and spouses), John (Laura) Ontiveros, Fort Wayne, Ind., Robert (Blenda) Ontiveros, Moline, Larry (Linda) Ontiveros, Moline, Frank Ontiveros, Milan, Christine (Jeff) Reem, Moline, Jo Ann (Ray) Bender, Milan, Rita Ontiveros, Moline, Michael Ontiveros, Moline, Cindy (Dave) Newton, Moline; 12 nephews and nieces; 15 great-nephews and -nieces and countless friends whom he held close to his heart and considered his second family. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Verle Spencer
Verle A. Wilson Spencer, 92, of Moline, died June 12, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Graveside services for family and close friends will be 10:30 a.m. today at Greenview Memorials Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association or a local no-kill animal shelter. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline, is assisting the family.

Verle was born in 1913 in Rock Island. She married Herbert O. Spencer in 1934. He passed away in 1996 of ALS. They had three children, Loren (Kathy) Spencer, Sandra Case and Susanne (Ron) DeBruyckere. In later years, Verle resided in the homes of her daughters. Verle had seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Verle owned and operated her own beauty salon in Moline, Beauty Lounge. Verle enjoyed reading, gardening and cooking. She enjoyed her daughters' cats and dog.

Verle was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Dessel Wilson, Oscar Wilson; a sister, Ione Schowalter; and a son-in-law, Richard Case.

Pauline Hunt
Pauline A. Hunt, 83, of Geneseo, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Michael Pakula will celebrate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery , Geneseo. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Pauline Hunt Memorial Fund.

Pauline was born March 25, 1923, in Clarkdale, Iowa, daughter of Frank and Carmella Calfo Mascaro. She married Arlo Hunt Jan. 3, 1942, in Missouri. He preceded her in death in 1993. Pauline was a member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church and its Altar & Rosary Circle No. 6. She enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, playing cards, traveling and her family.

Survivors include daughters and spouses, Rosemary and Ron Schultz, Geneseo, Theresa and Chuck Day, Woodbridge, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Brett Fleming, Ann Kapraun, Dawn Marshall, Beth Miller, Sonya VanVoorde, Jennifer Wylie, Brian Day, Adam Day, Christina Day, Aaron Day; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Rosie Morrow, Ottumwa, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Larry Hunt; two daughters, Katherine Hunt and Sharon K. Hunt; four brothers, Phillip, Victor, Orlando and Charles; and two sisters, Mary and Bridgette.
