Janice Van Stechelman
Janice Marie "Jan" Van Stechelman, 68, of Green Bay, Wis., died Friday, June 9, 2006, at her home.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., Green Bay, (920) 494-7447. There will be a parish wake service and sharing of memories beginning at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends also may call after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 9th St., Green Bay. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. She was born Sept. 15, 1937, in Ward County, N.D., to Carl and Violet Johnson Erickson. On Aug. 6, 1960, she married John Van Stechelman at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot, N.D. "Jan" and "Van" later moved to Green Bay, where they raised their family.

Survivors include her husband, John; five children, Jay, Joel, Jon (wife, Andi), Jenny Davey, Jim; a daughter-in-law, Monique; and relatives from the Moline area.

Olive Headley
Olive L. Headley, 83, formerly of East Moline, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Arrangements are pending at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Don Fuller
Don C. Fuller, 82, a resident of Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at the village.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at First United Methodist Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Robert K. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery , Geneseo, where military rites will be accorded by Geneseo VFW. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the Bell Choir of First United Methodist Church.

Don was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Girard, Ill., son of Tary and Mabel Green Fuller. He was a graduate of Booneville High School, Booneville, Ind. Don served his country under General Patton in the Army 3rd Infantry during World War II. He married Sarah Lewis Dec. 1, 1946, in Geneseo. She preceded him in death Jan. 22, 2004.

Don farmed in Cornwall Township for 27 years. He later was the owner and operator of Fuller Electric for 15 years and then worked at Mutual Electric Co. in Kewanee for 16 years. Don was a member of First United Methodist Church, Geneseo, and the church choir, Geneseo Zoning Board, Atkinson American Legion and Geneseo VFW. He was a former member of Atkinson Kiwanis and a former Mason.

Survivors include a daughter and husband, Jane and Jon Wolf, Galva; a son and wife, Kent and Debbie Fuller, Platt Center, Neb.; three grandchildren and spouses, Julie and Justin Voge, St. George, Kan., Jamie and Ryan Peters, Hillsboro, Kan., Jackie Wolf, Huntsville, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Colton Voge, Charlie and Ashley Peters. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Roberta; and two brothers, Raymond and Jack.

Gerald Goodlander Jr.
Gerald T. "Jerry" Goodlander Jr., 56, of Colona, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at his home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 12, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice.

Jerry was born Nov. 17, 1949, in East Chicago, Ind., son of Gerald Thomas St. and Lucille Campbell Goodlander.

Jerry was employed as a truck driver for Yellow Freight Co. He enjoyed fishing, bicycling, traveling, doing yard work and working on the house and in his shop. Jerry loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved his dogs, and he had a great sense of humor.

Survivors (and spouses) include his fiancee, Kathy McFadden, Colona; sons, Jerry III (Tricia) Goodlander, Cedar Lake, Ind., Jason Goodlander and fiancee, Katie Schlageter, Indianapolis, Ind.; mother, Lucille Goodlander, Artesia, N.M.; brothers, Jim (Milda) Goodlander, Albuquerque, N.M., Jeff Goodlander, Carlsbad, N.M.; grandchildren, Grace and Ethan, Indiana; many aunts, uncles and other family members and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father.

Kenneth Alger
Kenneth Alger, 78, of Davenport, died June 9, 2006, at Veteran's Administration Hospital, Iowa City.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Catholic, Davenport. Burial is in Mount Calvary cemetery , Davenport, with military graveside services. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, with prayers at 7 p.m.

He was born Aug. 20, 1927.

Surviving are his wife, Fran; children, Karen Hintze, Sandie Hintze, Joyce Schurke, Carol Abbas, Sue Bliss, Barry Alger, Kenny Alger, all Davenport, Mike Alger, Blue Grass; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.

Quincy Black
Quincy Black, 77, of Davenport, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

Private services will be held. Inurnment will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island, on Monday, June 12. Memorials may be made to the family. Arrangements are by Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

Quincy was born March 25, 1929, in Pine Bluff, Ark., son of Gus Black and Bertha Palmer Oliver. He served in the Army in Korea during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal, two bronze service stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal for his service. He was united in marriage to Carol Morey on Jan. 8, 1966, in Waukegan, Ill.

He was employed 38 years by Farmall in Rock Island, prior to his retirement in 1982. He was a life member of the Davenport American Legion.

He was known by many people in Davenport as "The Waving Man," because he often could be seen standing along Division Street waving at people as they drove by.

Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife, Carol, Davenport; stepsons, Dennis Edmonds, Davenport, Darrell Edmonds, Florida; stepgrandson, Darrell Edmonds Jr.; and a brother, Robert Oliver, Milwaukee, Wis. Quincy was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Helen Oliver; brother, Curtis Mims; and another brother in infancy.

Norma Deatherage
Norma L. Deatherage, 81, of Davenport, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at her home.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport. Burial is in National cemetery , Arsenal Island, at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded. Visitation is noon to services.

She was born July 22, 1924. She married Lawrence Deatherage May 9, 1944. He died in 1993.

Surviving are children, Donna Johnson, Davenport, Harold, Princeville, Ill., Dallas, Rogers, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 1/2 great-great-grandchildren; and two siblings.

Ardith `Goldie' Golden
Ardith Ann "Goldie" Golden, 75, of Davenport, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Weerts, Davenport, where visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to services. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery , Davenport.

She was born April 26, 1931, in Iowa City to Frank and Thelma Bryant Wall.

Survivors include daughters, Sharon Reed, Moline, Patricia Baker, Davenport, Linda Lachman, Grantsdale, Mont.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Wall, Davenport.

James Kipper Jr.
James K. Kipper Jr., 61, of LeClaire, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at his home.

Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at McGinnis-Chambers, Bettendorf. Burial is in Jack's cemetery , LeClaire. Visitation is 4 to 7:30 p.m. Monday.

He was born July 6, 1944, in Davenport to James and Geraldine Kipper Sr.

Survivors (and spouses) are his wife, Cheryl; daughters, Jama (Rick) Miller, Sherrard, Jana (Jeff) Nichols, Milan; son, Jim (Jeni) Kipper III, LeClaire; nine grandchildren; mother, Missouri; eight siblings, including Carol Scharff, Pat Fisher, Kathy Gimm, LeClaire.

Harold Noah
Harold Noah, 85, of Davenport, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Genesis West, Davenport, after a brief illness.

Following cremation, visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport, with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Private burial will be at a later date in National cemetery , Arsenal Island.

He was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Falls City, Neb., to Hallie and Gladys Henderson Noah. On Jan. 15, 1942, he married Constance Kanaly in Falls City.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Constance; children, Judith Noah, Daniel (Martha) Noah, Susan Platt, Patrick (Cyndee) Noah, Sean Noah, Matt (Yvonne) Noah, Andrew (Carol) Noah; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael, and a sister, Helen.

Maggie Spivey
Maggie Spivey, 85, of Davenport, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at the Davenport Lutheran Home.

Arrangements are pending at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

L. Joan Truman
L. Joan Truman, 73, of Bettendorf, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 12, at First Christian Church, Davenport, where she had been a member since 1956. The officiant will be the Rev. Terry Halsted. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the church or to a memorial established in Joan's name.

Joan was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Galesburg, daughter of Rollo Edward and Maggie Marie Morss Brown. She graduated from Galesburg High School. She was united in marriage to Elmer Dwayn Truman May 31, 1953, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death Aug. 29, 1999.

She retired in 1993 as a bookkeeper at Swiss Valley Farms, where she had been employed for 22 years.

Joan was actively involved in her church, where she served most recently as treasurer of Christian Women's Fellowship.

She was a member of the Alcoa Retirees Club as well as a member of the 25-year club at Alcoa. Her husband, Dwayn, had been employed at the Davenport Works for 33 years. She served recently on the Alcoa Retiree Club Board and attended retiree events regularly.

Joan had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid reader, enjoyed camping, playing cards and board games. She enjoyed needlepoint, cross-stitch andembroidery. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.

She was an enthusiastic Hawkeye, Illini and Iowa State basketball fan. First and foremost, Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family dearly and was always there for them. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Pat Truman, Coon Rapids, Minn.; her sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Judy Truman, Iowa City, Tim and Leslie Truman, Bettendorf, Brad and Annette Truman, Henderson, Nev., Barry and Barb Truman, Davenport, and Garry and Lynne Truman, Omaha, Neb.; her sisters, Arlene Rossell, Prescott, Ariz., Pat Smead and her husband, Bill, Palatine, Ill., Barbara Greene and her husband, Jim, Nampa, Idaho, and Marilyn Smith and her husband, Alan, Galesburg; her sisters-in-law, Edith Tweed, Keithsburg, and Shirley Brown, Colona; and her brother-in-law, Hugh White, Galesburg. In addition to her husband, Dwayn, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Helen, Gladys, Lucyle and Alice; and her brother, Richard.

Natalie Varner
Natalie Rae Varner, infant daughter of Andrew and Kimberly Varner, Blue Grass, died at birth Friday, June 9, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

Glen Ewing
Glen Ewing, 77, of Rock Island, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memorial Park cemetery , Rock Island. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Rock Island.

Glen was born Nov. 19, 1927, in Honeywell, Mo., son of Glen L. and Ada Fay Gibson Ewing. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the United States Army. He married Dessie Gaskey in September 1973 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Glen had worked for the Rock Island Water Department and the Rock Island Post Office, retiring in 1989. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Rock Island.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Dessie, Rock Island; daughter, Rita (Richard) Bagge, Belmont, Miss.; stepdaughters, Rosalee (Dean) Clark, St. Louis, Mo., and Cheri (Laverne) White, Ocoee, Fla.; stepson, Ronald (Shaula) Heaton, Davenport; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; six stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Doris Ewing; and a grandson, Matthew Bagge.

Michael "Big Mike" Jones Sr.
Michael D. "Big Mike" Jones Sr., 34, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services will be noon Monday at Greater Antioch Baptist Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Pine Hill cemetery , Davenport. A wake will be held one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are by Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Mike was born Aug. 19, 1971, in Water Valley, Miss., son of Victor and Billie Jones Haywood.

He was a fork-lift driver at Norcross Safety Products, Davenport. He was also a bouncer at Jimmy's Tap, Rock Island. Prior to this, he was a houseman at Holiday Inn, Moline.

He enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, video games and basketball. He also enjoyed listening to music and being with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Consuelo Jones, Rock Island; daughters, Shakayla Jones, Davenport, Chardi Lewis and Daybreonna Jones, both of Rock Island; sons, Michael D. Jones Jr., Davenport, Brushay Pugh, Rock Island, Roy Jones, Davenport, and Day Qwon Jones, Rock Island; mother, Billie Jones, Rock Island; sister, Ashley Jones, Carbon Cliff, Ill.; brothers, Jerry Jones, Davenport, Victor Jones, Rock Island, and Brandon Jones, East Moline, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Curtiss Rush
Curtiss Steven Rush, 52, of Rock Island, died June 3, 2006, at his home.

His body has been cremated. A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, June 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Inurnment will be held privately at a later date.

Curtiss was born May 4, 1954, in Rock Island, son of Darrell Francis and Vivian Marie Mulert Rush. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1972. Curtiss worked for 33 years as a janitor for the Rock Island Post Office until his recent retirement. He was an avid bowler.

His brother, Mark A. Woeckener, Laurel, Miss., survives him. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kevin Rush, in infancy.
