Natalie Varner
Natalie Rae Varner, of Blue Grass, passed away at birth Friday, June 9, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Private funeral services will be held. Public visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family.

Surviving are her parents, Andrew and Kimberly Varner; her brother, Brady; and grandparents, Ken and Georgia Ann Varner, Camanche, Iowa, and David and Janice Russell, Blue Grass.

Marjorie Louise Wilkerson Bergert
Marjorie Louise Wilkerson Bergert, 82, of Rock Island, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan.

Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where further arrangements are pending.

Josie Franks
Josie K. Franks, 85, of Rock Island, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.

Graveside services will be held at National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Those attending should meet at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, for procession to the cemetery . Memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice.

Josie was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Brilliant, Ala., to Oscar and Etta Spiller Pridmore. She married Dolphus Franks Oct. 21, 1939, in Brilliant. He preceded her in death May 30, 2005.

She worked at Oak Glen Home for more than 42 years. Josie liked to cook.

She is survived by her brother-in-law (and sister-in-law), Everett (Shirley) Franks, Rock Island; friend, Elizabeth Hunt, Rock Island; and many nieces and nephews. Her parents; husband; son, Jim; and five brothers preceded her in death.

A special thanks to the staffs of St. Anthony's and Beacon of Hope for their kindness.

Richard `Scotty' Scott
Richard J. "Scotty" Scott, 63, of Rock Island, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at his home.

A memorial gathering will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Friends Circle Club, 701 18th Ave., Moline, where the family will receive friends. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice. Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, assisted the family with arrangements.

Richard was born Sept. 13, 1943, in Centerville, Iowa, son of Alva J. Scott and Fern Besse Scott. He graduated from Rock Island High School, Class of 1961. He married Cheryl Jo Woods Feb. 12, 1962, in Moline.

Prior to his retirement, Scotty was employed for more than 30 years at the Farmall Works of International Harvester (Navistar).

He was a member of Friends Circle Club, Moline, and Svithiod Club, Moline. His interests included hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl Jo Woods Scott, Rock Island; children, Michael J. Scott, and his wife, Sharon, Moline, and Robert J. Scott, Rock Island; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces, Sonja Maraz and Stephanie Scott, as well as other nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceding Richard in death were his parents and a brother, Jerry L. Scott.

Charles Davenport
Charles Vance Davenport, 62, of Moline, formerly of Viola, passed away with his children by his side Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, after losing his battle with cancer.

There will be no services. Cremation rites will be accorded, and burial will be at a later date. A memorial lunch will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at Viola United Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to United Presbyterian Church of Viola.

Chuck was born Sept. 27, 1944, in Monmouth to Roscoe and Gladys Brown Davenport. He was raised in Viola and graduated from Winola High School in 1962.

He retired from Case IH in 1993 after 30 years (Local 1304). Charles married Corliss Miller in 1967. He later married Sheila Tribble in 1988.

Chuck was a loving father and grandfather and a good friend to everyone. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Chuck will be remembered for his love of old cars, antiques and the Rock River, where he spent his retirement, fishing with his grandchildren and visiting with neighbors.

Survivors (and spouses) include his best friend, Sheila; daughters, Tyrenna Pitman (Jeff Bieri), Aledo, Amy Davenport (Brian Haynes), Matherville, Courtny (Tommy) Cameron, Matherville; stepdaughters, Lisa (Eric) Winebrenner, Kansas City, Mo., and Christy (Kevin) McCaw, Lees Summit, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Samantha, Travis, Jacob, Kyle, Shayne, Cain, Kase, Jenna, Caleb and Kali, and expecting another one; brothers, Robert (Jo) Davenport, Andalusia, Dallas (Jeane) Davenport, East Moline; sisters, Dorothy (Daryl) Lemon, Colorado, Mildred (Leroy) Price, Taylor Ridge, and Martha (Bill) Thorp, Viola; brother-in-law, Richard Smith, Aledo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Todd; sister, Marilyn; and infant brother, Ben.

Nickolaus Sluz
Nickolaus Sluz, 41, of Moline, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Arrangements are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline.

Diane Ballard
Diane K. Ballard, 60, of East Moline, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, in Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport.

Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, where funeral arrangements are pending

Survivors include her husband, Ernest L. Ballard.

Regenia Wilson
Regenia M. Wilson, 69, of East Moline, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at home with her loving family around her.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Sullivan-Phillips. The Rev. Jim Brown will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery , East Moline, following services.

Regenia was born Sept. 2, 1937, in Consol, Iowa, to Albert and Blanche Hannan Claver. She married William D. Wilson March 23, 1956, in Iowa.

She worked in maintenance at Royal Neighbors for 20 years, retiring in 1993, and also at Demo Express for 10 years.

Regenia loved her close-knit family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her puppy and best companion, Dudley.

Survivors (and spouses) include sons, John Wilson and Edward (Tammy) Wilson, both of East Moline; daughters, Deborah (John) Wentz, Geneseo, Linda (Myron) Hazen, Milan, and Julie (Henry Wayne) Tarkington, Geneseo; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Regenia was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.

Clois `Gene' Temple
Clois Eugene "Gene" Temple, 80, of Milan, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hodgson Funeral Home. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island, where military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 569/200, VFW Post 1303. Memorials may be made to Memorial Christian Church, Rock Island.

Mr. Temple was born Oct. 27, 1926, in Rock Island to Clois A. and Lois G. Rogers Temple. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1945. He married Virginia Holcomb in Galesburg on July 23, 1950.

Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He also served in the Air Force for three years.

He worked at Rock Island Glass Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1992.

Gene was a member for 43 years and served as an elder at Memorial Christian Church, Rock Island. He also was a member of the Loyal Friends Sunday school class. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Rock Island and was a George E. Hixson Fellow.

He enjoyed many sports, including bowling, fishing and fast-pitch softball. In his free time, he liked to watch movies and play cards with his friends.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Virginia, Milan; son, Gary (Joyce) Temple, Rock Island; daughter, Gloria (Micheal) Sanders, Grandview, Mo.; grandchildren, Brian E. Temple, Davenport, Brandy (Jacent) Curry, Rock Island, Michael E. Sanders, Olathe, Kan.; four great-grandchildren, Nisaiah, Kole, Chelsey and Daquan; half-sister, Judy (George) Crouch, Dallas, Texas; niece, Susan Alfaro, Peoria, Ill. His parents and a sister, Arlene Adams, preceded him in death.

Harvey Brandon
Harvey R. Brandon, 89, of Viola, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

He was born Dec. 13, 1916, in Hannibal, Mo., to Harvey R. and Clara Frame Brandon Sr. He married Mary Smith Aug. 24, 1940, in Hannibal.

He was a truck driver for Knox Motor Service, East Moline, which later became ATL, for 27 years, retiring in 1978.

He was a member of Teamsters Local 371, Rock Island. He loved his grandkids, bowling, fishing and, in his younger years, he played baseball.

Surviving are wife, Mary Brandon; daughters, Peggy and Dennis Shefey, Jonesboro, Tenn., Carolyn Trenton, Viola, Mary Durbin, Elizabethtown, Tenn.; sons, Ralph and Sharon Brandon, Davenport, Harvey J. Sr. and Barb Brandon, Moline, Donald Sr. and Rita Brandon, Viola, Bill and Peggy Brandon, Moline, Robert Brandon, Channelview, Texas; siblings, Patricia Moore, Missouri, Dorothy Moyer, Texas; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Josephine Moyer Buskirk; three granddaughters.

Stella Buikema
Stella G. Buikema, 91, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at the nursing home.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Morrison. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment is in Grove Hill cemetery , Morrison.

She was born Nov. 8, 1915.

She enjoyed sewing, needlework, crocheting, making braided rugs, and word-search puzzles.

Surviving are sisters, Janet Tichler, Morrison, Ella Mae Pruis, Sterling; brother, Renzie Buikema, Morrison.

Mabel Carlson
Mabel G. Carlson, 92, of Geneseo, a resident of Hillcrest Home, Geneseo, died at Hillcrest Home Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Myers Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo, with visitation one hour prior to services. The Rev. Arthur Bergren will officiate. Burial is in Oakwood cemetery , Geneseo.

Mabel Giebel was born Sept. 26, 1914, in Geneseo, daughter of Emil L. and Bertha Pobanz Giebel. She married Glenn E. Carlson March 6, 1942, in Springfield, Mo. He died Jan. 20, 2001.

Mabel worked as a seamstress. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Geneseo.

Survivors include a son, John Carlson; grandchildren, Derik Carlson, Kenneth "Tubby" Carlson and Elizabeth Carlson Swemline; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Charlet
Mary T. Charlet, 95, formerly of Galva and Louisiana, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at Woodbine Nursing Home in Kansas City, Mo.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. Visitation is one hour prior to services at Rux. Burial is in Pleasant View cemetery , Kewanee.

Mary was born Aug. 27, 1911, in Pike County, Mo., daughter of Newton and Fay Riley Thurman. She had married Ira Bradford. She later married Glen E. Charlet Jan. 29, 1995, in Wyoming, Ill. He preceded her in death May 29, 1999.

She is survived by a daughter, Julie Miquelon, Kansas City; three grandsons, Joe, Brad and Matt, all of Kansas City; three great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and a brother, Lawrence Poyser, Louisiana, Mo.

Wilma Loenser
Wilma I. Loenser, 84, of Geneseo, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, in Sarasota, Fla.

Arrangements are pending at Myers Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo.

Patricia Ales
Patricia A. Ales, 70, of Hollister, Mo., passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at Skaggs Community Health Center in Branson, Mo.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. The family held a memorial visitation for Mrs. Ales at her home in Hollister, Mo., on Monday.

Born July 6, 1936, in Davenport, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Velma Dawartz Madsen.

Patricia owned and managed fashion-related businesses throughout her life.

Surviving are a stepmother, Erna Madsen, Bothell, Wash.; three children, Chris Ales, Moline, Scott Ales, Eustus, Fla., and Carrie Ummel, Scottsdale, Ariz.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Dick Madsen, Bremerton, Wash., Thomas Madsen, Lake St. Helen, Mich.; and a sister, Sister Annette Madsen, Redwoods Monastery, Whitethorn, Calif.

Elaine Fitzsimmons
Elaine Fitzsimmons, 79, of Davenport, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, where family will greet visitors from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Entombment is in Davenport Memorial Park.

She was born Nov. 5, 1927.

Surviving are husband, Hubert Fitzsimmons; daughter, Erin Maureen Fitzsimmons and granddaughters, Elizabeth and Victoria Solbrig, all Swisher, Iowa; sister, Maxine McOsker, Alva, Okla.; brother, Roy Charles Harper, Moline.
