Albert Brotman
Albert Brotman, 94, of Rock Island, died peacefully at his home Monday, June 25, 2007.

Funeral services and interment will be at 1 p.m. today at National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Those going to the cemetery should meet at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, between noon and 12:30 p.m. today for procession to the cemetery . Memorials may be made to the Tri-City Jewish Center, Rock Island, where he was a member.

Albert was born Aug. 17, 1912, in Davenport, to Ben and Eva Siegel Brotman. He was raised by Eva and Abe Abromovitz. He married Garnet B. Moore on May 13, 1944, in Fayetteville, N.C.

Albert worked at the former Siegel's, Davenport, and Sable's Jewelers, East Moline, retiring in 1973. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with the 69th Division of Field Artillery in the European Theater during World War II.

Albert enjoyed good music.

Survivors include his wife, Garnet, Rock Island, and four nieces and a nephew. His parents, six sisters and brothers preceded him in death.

Thomas Tingle Jr.
Thomas G. Tingle Jr., 68, of Rock Island, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Rock Island, or to the Alzheimer's Association, Davenport.

Tom was born May 6, 1939, in St. Louis, Mo., a son of Thomas G. Sr. and Mary Georgeopolis Tingle. He married Carole J. Edwards on Aug. 18, 1957, in Canton, Mo.

He graduated from Augustana College in 1962, where he played football and was named an NCAA Little All-American. In 1982, he was named to the Augustana College Tribe of Vikings Hall of Honor.

Tom dedicated his 42 working years to Parr Instrument, Moline, where he was product manager. He retired in 2004.

Tom was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rock Island, the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Testing and Materials, which presented him the R.A. Glenn Award in 1997. He was an Illinois High School Association football official for many years.

Tom was very proud of his boys, loved his family, and was a wonderful, fun-loving grandfather.

He enjoyed coaching youth sports, was one of the founders of Y-Guys Youth Football and also coached Babe Ruth and Connie Mack baseball.

Tom was an avid Chicago Bears fan and also enjoyed biking and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Carole; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas L. and Patti Tingle, Overland Park, Kan., William G. and Becky Tingle, St. Charles, Mo., and Terrance M. and Peggy Tingle, Overland Park; grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew, Alexander, Jessica, Nicholas, Jordan, Abigail, and Rachel; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnny B. and Yvonne Tingle, Rock Island, and Paul J. and Nancy Tingle, Danielson, Conn. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Albert Wassenhove
Albert Wassenhove, 90, of Rock Island, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, June 27, at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 12:30 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The American Kidney Foundation.

Albert Wassenhove was born Aug. 8, 1916, in Scott County, Iowa, the son of Gentiel and Helena DeVleeschouwer Wassenhove. He married Harriette Hesse in Iowa. She preceded him in death. He later married the former Elsie M. VanKerckhove on Nov. 22, 1949, in Moline. She preceded him in death Feb. 17, 1988.

He was employed at John Deere Plow/Planter, Moline, for 42 years, retiring as an inspector. He was a member of St. Pius X Church, John Deere retirees and a life member of the Moline Moose. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle.

Survivors include sons, La Gene "Gene" Wassenhove, Colona, and John Wassenhove, Silvis; daughters and son-in-law, Paulette and Tom Schoening, Madison, S.D., and Patricia Wassenhove, Rock Island. There are six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

James Devine
James L. Devine, 77, of Moline, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Thursday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where further arrangments are pending.

Lynn Prosser-Volker
Lynn Marie Prosser-Volker, 47, of Moline, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport, after a courageous battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 29, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association -- Greater Iowa Chapter or Myasthenia Gravis Foundation.

Lynn was born Aug. 20, 1959, in Davenport, the daughter of Adair "Bud" and Lois Savage Prosser. She united in marriage to Chris Volker on May 22, 1993.

Lynn was a graduate of Sherrard High School and Western Illinois University with a bachelor's degree in psychology. After several years in the lending industry, she returned to Western Illinois University to complete her master's degree in gerontology. She then was employed as the senior services supervisor at Friendly House, Davenport.

Mrs. Volker served on the boards of Western Illinois University Alumni, Senior Voice and Alzheimer's Association -- Greater Iowa Chapter. She also was actively involved with the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation and led the local support group.

Lynn was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. She enjoyed antiquing, gardening and cake decorating.

Survivors include her husband, Chris; mother, Lois Prosser, Rock Island; sister and spouse, Janet Gilland and Gary Hutchins, Rock Island; nephew and spouse, Lt. Col. Steven and Betsy Gilland, Fayetteville, N.C.; great-nephew and -nieces, Alex, Grace Elizabeth and Chloe; father and mother-in-law, Roger and Carol Volker, Ames, Iowa; brothers-in-law and spouses, Paul and Barbara Gaddis Volker, Boone, Iowa, and Tim and Kate Volker, Bacu, Azerbaijan. She will be greatly missed by her three cats, Isabel, Lilly and Alistair. She was preceded in death by her father, Bud.

Diane Hubbs Brundies
Funeral services for Diane L. Hubbs Brundies, 53, of East Moline, are 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a service will be at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to WAXR Family Christian Radio, Moline.

Diane died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Diane Hubbs was born June 4, 1954, in Rock Island, the daughter of John and June Schultz Hubbs. She graduated from Alleman High School, Rock Island, in 1972. She married Robin Brundies on June 8, 1974, at St. Anne Church, East Moline.

Diane had worked at the former Eagle Grocery for 21 years.

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, working in the garden, riding her bike, and going for walks. She found great pleasure in helping others, but most of all loved playing and spending time with her granddaughter, Emilee.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Robin; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Chris Johnson, Moline; granddaughter, Emilee Johnson; her parents, John and June Hubbs, East Moline; sisters and brother-in-law, Denise Hubbs, East Moline, Debra and Steve Kautz, East Moline, and Deanna Hubbs, Davenport; brothers- and sister-in-law, David and Janis Hubbs, Milan, and Daniel Hubbs, Denver, Colo.; and a special aunt, Dorothy Light, East Moline.

Aten `Tom' Thompson Jr.
Aten W. "Tom" Thompson Jr., 62, of Silvis, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 24, 2007, of a heart attack while sleeping at home.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Heritage Wesleyan Church, Rock Island.

He was born July 28, 1944, in Moline, the son of Aten and Jeanette Thompson. He married Sherri Whitmore on Jan. 16, 1971, in Rock Island.

He graduated from United Township High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964-67 in Germany as an MP and an honor guard member. He worked at John Deere Harvester beginning in 1964. He then worked at John Deere Plow Planter, retiring June 30, 1991, as a supervisor and later a tour guide after retirement.

Since retirement, he has worked at the Greater Quad City Auto Auction as a condition reporter.

He attended Heritage Wesleyan Church in Rock Island.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog, Bailey, watching NASCAR and Formula 1 races and had a huge passion for cars. He loved riding his motorcycle in the evening with Sherri, taking walks with her and playing with his sweet granddaughters.

He had attended the first Mathias Family Reunion the day before and had a wonderful time with his family.

His family is proud that he was a donor for the Gift of Hope.

Tom will be greatly missed and was well loved and adored by his wife, Sherri; his eldest son, David (spouse, Lauri), Rapids City; and his youngest son, Daniel (Connie), Silvis; his beautiful granddaughters, Kaylee, 10, Jenna, 6, Alexis, 4, and Zoey, 3 months; sisters and spouses include, Rosa and George "Larry" Sweat, Chatham, Ill., Theresa and Larry "Buck" Foltz, Houston, Texas, Cindy and George Waller, Olympia, Wash., who were all in the Quad-Cities for the family reunion; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cheryl "Tudi" Edwards
Cheryl "Tudi" Edwards, 56, of Geneseo, passed away Monday, June 25, 2007, at Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, where further arrangements are pending.

Among her survivors is her husband, John.

Casey Gibson Sr.
Casey L. Gibson Sr., 86, of Cambridge, died Friday, June 22, 2007, at Hillcrest Home, in rural Geneseo.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at the Cambridge Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, with the funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Brad Smith will be the officiating minister. Committal services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Memory Gardens, Arlington Heights, Ill. Memorials may be made to the Casey Gibson Sr. Memorial Fund.

Casey was born Aug. 8, 1920, in Gleason, Tenn., the son of Charles and Ada Gibson. He grew up on the family farm in Tennessee with his five brothers and moved to Chicago when he was an adult. His marriage to Reba Mae Brawner took place in 1952 in Chicago.

He opened a used furniture store when he first arrived in the area. He then became employed at Republic Molding in Chicago, where he worked until retiring.

When his son purchased the former Timber Campground in Cambridge, Mr. Gibson moved to Cambridge with them in 2000. He was known as a "true country gentleman" and loved nature. Casey was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Frank Gibson, Nashville, Tenn., Casey Jr. and Diana Gibson, Cambridge, Randy and Chris Gibson, Schaumburg, Ill.; and one daughter, Carol Cooper, Walworth, Wis. He had eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His parents, five brothers, and a grandchild preceded him in death.

Mark Meirhaeghe
Mark A. Meirhaeghe, 49, of Woodhull, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at St. John's Catholic Church, Woodhull. Private burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull, where a rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. A memorial fund will be established and online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

He was born Sept. 6, 1957, in Moline, a son of Alphonse and Patricia Van Houtte Meirhaeghe. He graduated from AlWood High School and was united in marriage to Cynthia J. Brahmstedt on Aug. 16, 1975, in Woodhull.

Mark assisted his father in the operation of the family farm from 1976 to 1986 and then was employed as a carpenter, working for Carpenters Union Local No. 166.

His memberships included St. John's Catholic Church and the Henry County Farm Bureau. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening. He especially enjoyed his family and grandchildren.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Cindy; three daughters, Lori (C.R.) Smith, Woodhull, Nicole and Chelsey Meirhaeghe, both at home; a son, David and fiancee, Dawn, Woodhull; five grandchildren, Saraya, Jaylynn, Drake, Hunter and Draven; his father and stepmother, Alphonse and Annlouise Meirhaeghe, Woodhull; a sister, Vicki (Jay) McVietty, Colona; two brothers, Denis (Lynn) Meirhaeghe, Hesperia, Calif., and Joe (Linda) Meirhaeghe, Orion; a stepsister, Becky Campbell; three stepbrothers, Rod, Douglas and Gary Minder; and several nieces and nephews. His mother preceded him in death.

Kim Stone
Kim M. Stone, 43, of Lancaster, Wis., formerly of Orion, died on Thursday, June 21, 2007, from a long battle with liposarcoma cancer at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, at the Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster, with the Rev. Kip Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Hurricane cemetery , South Lancaster Township. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at Schwartz Funeral Home.

She was born Jan. 24, 1964, in Milwaukee, Wis. She was mainstreamed for the deaf and attended Oklahoma Avenue Elementary School and John Marshall High School in Milwaukee. Kim also attended John Deere Junior High and moved to Moline in 1978. In 1984, she graduated from Moline High School.

Kim was employed with the United States Army in Rock Island as a supply clerk from August 1984 until August 1998. She then worked for the Army Corps of Engineers in Rock Island as a realty clerk from September 1999 until September 2003.

Kim met Craig Hamerlinck in 1979, and they were married on Oct. 19, 1996. Although they did not remain married , the couple remained constant companions and devoted to each other until his sudden death in May 2005.

Due to Kim's health, she relocated to the Lancaster area in October 2006.

Kim enjoyed quilting from old clothes, scrapbooking and other crafts. She had many friends in the deaf community in the surrounding tri-state area with whom she enjoyed bowling, camping and going on outings and picnics.

Survivors (and spouses) include her parents, Jerolynn (Charlie) Hartman, Lancaster; aunts and uncles, Barbara (John) Grunwald, Sun City Center, Fla., Jerold (Charmayne) Dales, Spring Hill, Fla., Linda (David) Clements, Lancaster, Kris (Tim) Smythe, Potosi, Wis., Paul (Laura) Hartman, Potosi; nephew, Tim (Teresa) Hartman, Cassville, Wis.; cousins, Brian (Ellen) Shanahan, Union Grove, Wis., Jody Lynn (Mike) Fredricks, Greenfield, Wis.; numerous friends; and her two special cats, Lucey and Sipsee. Kim was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Howard and Lucille Dales; her stepfather's parents, Arno and Clara "Pat" Hartman; and her uncles, Vince Shanahan and Jim Hartman.

Eva Williams
Eva N. Williams, 77, of Morrison, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Morrison Community Hospital.

Private graveside services are at a later date. Inurnment is in Grove Hill cemetery , Morrison. Visitation is 5-7 p.m., today at Bosma-Renkes, Morrison.

She was born March 24, 1930. She married Glenn Williams Sr. Jan. 16, 1954. He died in 1981.

Surviving are children, Martha Hamstra and Pamela Morrow, both Fulton, and Steve Williams, Morrison; stepdaughters, Carol Howard, Sterling, Joyce Scott, Lyndon; stepsons, LaVerne and Pete Williams, both Geneva, Fla.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

Marilyn Wirth
Marilyn Wirth, 75, of Erie, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2007, at home after a courageous battle with leukemia.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Erie. Burial will be in Erie cemetery . Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary at 4 p.m. at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Memorials may be made to the Erie Ambulance Service or Mercy Hospice.

The former Marilyn A. Snider was born Jan. 9, 1932, in Kewanee, the daughter of Rolland and Frances McKinney Snider. She married Arlyn Wirth on Aug. 18, 1956, in Kewanee. He preceded her in death March 29, 2000.

She enjoyed all of her friends, especially her TOPS friends. She was extremely proud of her family and thoroughly enjoyed her seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Survivors (and spouses) include her four sons, Jeff (Marta) Wirth, Erie, Kent (Beth) Wirth, Albany, Todd (Pam) Wirth, Erie, and Tony Wirth, Cordova; grandchildren, Sarah, Haley, Scott, Angela, Travis, Patrick and Ryan; and great-grandchild, Keegan; brother and sisters, Larry (Josie) Snider, Peoria, Ill., Virginia (Jim) Kostan, Portage, Pa., Sharon (Larry) Thurwanger, Metamora, Ill., Shirley (Loren) Murphy, Kingston, Ark., and Judi (Mark) Voels, Allentown, Pa.; and a brother-in-law, Lyle Wirth, Erie. She was preceded by a daughter, Cheryl, in infancy.
