Marjorie M. Conway, 89, of Davenport, died on Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

Arrangements are pending at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service, Davenport.

Gertrude Feldman
Gertrude Orpha Harbit Feldman, 96, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty, Iowa, following an extended illness.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Liberty. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge cemetery , West Liberty. The Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church or the Simpson Memorial Home.

Gertrude Orpha Harbit was born on Jan. 14, 1911, in Oxford, Neb., being the first born child of William Proctor and Alice Hughes Harbit. Shortly after the birth of Gertrude, the family moved to Iowa and settled around the West Branch and Springdale area. She attended Springdale Community School through high school and graduated in the class of 1930. Being a pioneer type, she drove a horse-drawn school bus from eighth grade through her senior year.

On Feb. 22, 1936, she was united in marriage to Wilfred Feldman at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in West Liberty. The couple farmed until Wilfred's death on Nov. 20, 1962.

They were third generation Feldman family farm owners. Their farm was purchased by Peter Henry Feldman on Oct. 1, 1868, some 139 years ago. After the death of her husband, Gertrude continued to live on the farm until February 2003, at which time she became a resident of the Simpson Care Center in West Liberty.

Gertrude has been a life-long member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society and an old-timer of the South Prairie Community.

She enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and attended many family events through the years. She enjoyed raising large gardens and tending to all the needs of her large family.

Survivors include her six children, Patricia Hinz and her husband, Dr. Francis, Moberly, Mo., Nancy Kellner and husband, Jerome, Livermore, Iowa, James Feldman and wife, Willa, East Moline, Rita Brcka and husband, David, Waukee, Iowa, John Feldman and wife, Ming, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Marie Wheaton, West Chester, Pa; 13 grandchildren, Denis, Mike, Steve, Julie and Chris Hinz, Dean and Cheri Kellner, Rob, Scott and Rick Brcka, Annette, Nick and Molly Feldman; 15 great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Lisa, Alex, Erica, Paige and Kaitlyn Hinz, Chris, Nick, Melissa and William Kellner, Savannah and Isabella Waechter, Britney, Trenton and Emma Brcka; one great-great-grandchild, Armanno Elizondo; sister and brother, Anna Lukavsky, Washington, Iowa, Daniel Harbit and wife, Marina, Iowa City, Iowa; and one brother-in-law, Vernon Cole, Iowa City. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred; her parents; a son, Wilfred Jr.; brothers and sisters, Robert and John Harbit, Pearl Cole, Maude Waters, Alice Schneider; and a daughter-in-law Marilyn Feldman.

Margaret `Peg' Ortstadt
Funeral services for Margaret L. "Peg" Ortstadt, 101, a resident of Silvercrest Assisted Living in Davenport and formerly a longtime resident of Kendallville, Ind., will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary Chapel in Davenport. The family will greet friends from 2 p.m. until service time at the mortuary. Burial and graveside services will be held later in the week at the Lake View cemetery in Kendallville.

Mrs. Ortstadt died on Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Margaret Elizabeth Lang was born on Dec. 19, 1905, to Walter and Elizabeth Riddle Lang in Pittsburgh, Pa. She married Henry Lawrence Ortstadt in January of 1937 in Pittsburg. He preceded her in death in September of 1987.

Peg was a member of Tri Kappa (Kendallville) and the Daughters Of The American Revolution.

Survivors (and spouses) include her two daughters, Edith "Edie" (Larry) Nissen, Bettendorf, and Kathrena "Rena" (Jerome) Green, Flowery Branch, Ga.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or to a local Humane Society.

Wayne Pilkenton
Wayne Pilkenton, 83, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Manor Care in Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, in the Runge Mortuary Chapel, Davenport. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary, followed by a Masonic service at 8 p.m. Burial will be in National cemetery , Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to Shriners Children's Hospitals.

He was born Sept. 27, 1923, in Algier, Mo., the son of Snowden and Clara Roller Pilkenton. During World War II he served in the Navy in the South Pacific. On Nov. 16, 1947, he married Nelda McCulley at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Davenport. She preceded him in death Sept. 11, 1981.

Mr. Pilkenton was a home-builder and was later employed by the Davenport Community Schools as director of custodial services prior to his retirement. He managed the Mohassan Grotto bingo hall for 15 years.

His memberships included Fraternal Lodge No. 221, A.F. & A.M., Davenport Consistory, Mohassan Grotto and its mini-bikers, and KAABA Shrine.

He enjoyed fishing and was a licensed pilot.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Kent Granell; grandchildren, Britton and Cody; brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Leah Pilkenton; uncle and aunt, Bob and Joyce Roller; and special friend, Carol Cade. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Jane Smithiger in 2006.

Bernice Rettig
Bernice Rettig, 80, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf.

Arrangements are pending at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport.

Richard Sodawasser
Richard L. Sodawasser, 54, of Davenport, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Genesis East, Davenport, of an apparent sudden heart attack.

Funeral services are pending at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.

Jacklyn L. Weldy, 74, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport.

Irma Wiland
Irma V. Wiland, 93, of Bettendorf, died June 24, 2007, at Iowa Masonic Home, Bettendorf.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic, Davenport, with visitation one hour prior. Burial is in Mount Calvary cemetery , Davenport. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, is assisting with arrangements.

She was born Oct. 31, 1913.

Surviving are husband, Lester; sons, Richard, Arizona, Jack, California; daughters, Patricia Tompkins, Katharine Donohoo, both Bettendorf; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Leona Tawney, Blue Grass.

Albert Wassenhove
Albert Wassenhove, 90, of Rock Island, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Arrangements are pending at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline.

Ralph Raaen
Ralph H. Raaen, 85, of Moline, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 25, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 227, East Moline.

Ralph was born Jan. 3, 1922, in Lisbon, N.D., to Axel and Mary Nelson Raaen. He married Rosa Heatherly March 6, 1954, in Rock Island.

Ralph was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Moline. He was a member of the Svithiod Club, Thor Lodge No. 9 Independent Order of Vikings, Moline, and Moline Lodge No. 1014 AF & AM. He also enjoyed playing golf.

Ralph was employed at John Deere Harvester as a welder.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Rosa; sons, Don (Michele) Raaen, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Harold (Deborah) Raaen, Hampton; grandchildren, Amy and Eric Raaen, Jason (Fran) Raaen; great-grandchildren, Faith and Stephen Raaen; brother, Kermit Raaen, Washington state. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Joshua.

Lenora `Norge' Lorimer
Lenora B. "Norge" Lorimer, 100, of East Moline, died Monday, May 28, 2007, in Pathway Hospice at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

A private family memorial service will be held. Memorials may be made to Quad City Symphony Orchestra Association or Leader Dogs for the Blind. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.

The former Lenora Bramley was born in Kent, England, on March 12, 1907, one of five children of Thomas and Ethel Pridmore Bramley. She emigrated from Great Britain to work in the Detroit, Mich., area in 1926. She married Robert E. Lorimer in 1931, and they lived in Lake Angelus, Mich., where they were avid sailors, ice-boaters and skiers. They had two children, Robin and David. In 1946, they relocated to the Quad-Cities because of Bob's work, eventually settling in Port Byron in a home they restored. Bob died in 1980.

Norge was proud to be one of a group that established the first hot-lunch program in the Port Byron Grade School. She volunteered many hours with the Red Cross, the Moline Public Hospital Auxiliary and the Garden Club in Port Byron, planting and maintaining flower pots in the downtown area. She loved her family immensely and loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved afternoon tea, playing mah-jongg, and an occasional glass of champagne.

Most recently she was a resident at Angelus Retirement Community at North Hill with many resident and caregiver friends. She celebrated her 100th birthday in March with many of her family present.

Norge is survived by her daughter, Robin Basila, Trenton, Mich.; her son and daughter-in-law, David and Louise Lorimer, East Moline; six grandchildren and their spouses, Margaret and Ryan Remick, Everett, Wash., Sarah and Walter Dimling, Gates Mills, Ohio, Barry and Cheryl Tuttle, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mary Anne and Bruce Fairey, Morristown, N.J., Nancy and David Smith, Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and David and Amy Lorimer, Moline; 12 great-grandchildren; four nephews; and a special friend, Violet Christian.

Patricia Rounds
Patricia R. Rounds, 57, of East Moline, died Monday, June 18, 2007, in Aitkin, Minn., after a courageous battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, where further arrangements are pending.

David Bohart
David S. Bohart, 66, of Geneseo, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.

Arrangements are pending at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo.

D. Jean Clark
D. Jean Clark, 82, of Orion, died Friday, June 22, 2007, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Orion United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, 1301 4th St., Orion. Burial is in Western Township cemetery , Orion. Memorials may be made to the church.

D. Jean was born April 20, 1925, in Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Robert E. and Loree Nye Merrill. She married Dr. Charles Clark June 15, 1946, in Ames, Iowa, where they both attended Iowa State. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 1985.

She was a member of Orion United Methodist Church and Hope Circle. Her community involvement included being a 50-year member of Orion Chapter 93 Order of Eastern Star, past mother adviser of Rainbow Girls, Moline Chapter IS of PEO, the past president of the Orion Junior Woman's Club, Orion Woman's Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and organizational leader for the Orion Brownies.

D. Jean was a homemaker who also assisted her husband in the veterinary business. She was a life member of the Illinois Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary and the American Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary. She enjoyed summers at the family's Lake Warren cabin for 45 years.

Survivors (and spouses) include her son, Larry Clark, St. Paul, Minn.; daughters, Ellen McKinzie (Will), Fulton, Md., Lorraine Clark, Westmont, Ill., Nancy Bark (Michael), New Orleans, La.; grandchildren, Lucas and Adam Clark, Michelle Oestriecher (Michael), Rachel and Nathan Bark; great-grandson, Michael Oestriecher; sister, Margaret "Peg" Grassley, Boone, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Bill Merrill.

William Comp
William L. "Bill" Comp, 77, of Annawan, passed away Friday evening, June 22, 2007, at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. The Rev. Dan Wright and the Rev. Terry Lancaster will officiate. Burial will be in Sheffield cemetery , where military honors will be accorded by Mineral American Legion Post 1031 and Annawan VFW Post 7176. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Annawan/Alba Fire Department.

Bill was born Nov. 8, 1929, in Manlius, Ill., the son of Harvey and Wilda Christensen Comp. He attended Sheffield schools and was united in marriage to Barbara S. Janis on July 3, 1965, in Buda, Ill. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Bill owned and operated Comp's Service Station in Annawan from 1967 to 1984, at which time he retired. He was a proud member of Mineral American Legion Post 1031, the 40/8 Voiture No. 433, Annawan, Annawan VFW Post 7176, where he served as past commander. He also was a longtime member of the Annawan/Alba Volunteer Fire Department and had served on the Annawan Village Board. He enjoyed fishing, having coffee with friends and playing cards.

Survivors (and spouses) include his loving wife of 42 years, Barbara; son, Craig (April) Comp-Johnson, Altamont, Ill.; two daughters, Connie Brink, Quincy, Ill., Kathleen (David) Eifert, Centralia, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty, and a daughter, Christy.

Casey Gibson Sr.
Casey L. Gibson Sr., 86, of Cambridge, died Friday, June 22, 2007, at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo.

Arrangements are pending at Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Cambridge.

Stanley Rommel
Stanley E. Rommel, 72, of Edgington, died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Pathway Hospice, Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Speer Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial with military honors is in Edgington cemetery . Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Edgington Presbyterian Church, College Avenue Presbyterian Church or Trinity Pathway Hospice.

Stanley Eugene was born Oct. 7, 1934, in Edgington to Benjamin F. and Irma Titterington Rommel. He married Katherine "Elaine" Hampton Dec. 15, 1957, in Edgington.

Stanley retired from John Deere's Planter Division on Jan. 1, 1996, after more than 30 years of employment. He also had a special clown ministry where he was known as "Dyn 'o' mite." Stanley was a member of the Rock Island County Farm Bureau, United Auto Workers Local 434, the Reynolds American Legion, the ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out), Edgington Presbyterian Church, and was attending College Avenue Presbyterian Church. He also enjoyed woodworking, especially making birdfeeders for his cardinals. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Elaine; a son, Ron Rommel, Overland Park, Kan.; a daughter and her husband, Marcia and Shane Day, Taylor Ridge; grandchildren, Karrie and Jacquie Coulter; stepgrandchild, Tara Flynn and her husband, Pat; a great-grandchild, Mallory Flynn; and a sister, Marvyl Holder, Boulder, Colo.

Beverly Swearingen
Beverly M. Swearingen, 85, of Washington Christian Village, Washington, Ill., formerly Neponset, Ill., died Friday, June 22, 2007, at the home.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Evangelical Lutheran, Kewanee. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Rux, Kewanee. Burial is in Pleasant View cemetery , Kewanee.

She was born Jan. 14, 1922, in Kewanee to Harvey and Marie Painter. She married Lawrence E. Swearingen Sept. 13, 1941. He died Dec. 26, 1998.

Surviving are daughter, Bonnie Junk, Washington; granddaughter, Rochelle Nason; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Alexandra.
