Guadalupe V. Ruiz Sr., 70, Rock Island, died June 11, 2007, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.

Services are 3 p.m. Saturday at Christ Apostolic, Davenport. Burial is at a later date in Mt. Calvary cemetery . Cremation was accorded.

He was born April 12, 1937. He married Virginia Sauceda. He later married Adrienne Detiege.

Surviving are children, Guadalupe Jr., Danny, both Davenport, Santos, Virginia Crockett, Alex, all Donna, Texas; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; father, Louis Aguilar Sr., Davenport; a brother; sisters, Corina Uristi Jr., Margarita Villareal, Davenport.

Mary Fitzgerald
Mary F. Fitzgerald, 51, Moline, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at her residence.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island.

Catherine Bickers
Catherine P. Bickers, 96, of Kewanee, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Kewanee Care Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Annawan Chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services. The Rev. Dan Wright will officiate. Burial will be in the Annawan cemetery . Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Abilities Plus in Kewanee or to the Annawan Fire Department.

The former Catherine Pearl Clementz was born March 24, 1911, in Annawan, the daughter of Charles A. and Mary L. VerBaker Clementz. She was educated in Annawan schools. Her marriage to Pete Minnaert took place Dec. 4, 1928. She later married Floyd H. Bickers on Dec. 20, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. He died April 21, 1988.

Catherine was a homemaker and enjoyed bingo, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Beatrice and Eldred Shaw, Annawan, Lois and Richard Gibson, Kewanee; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Her husband; a son, DeWayne; four grandchildren; four brothers; and a sister, preceded her in death.

Dwaine Dynes
Dwaine L. Dynes, 76, of rural Kewanee, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Fairview United Methodist Church, rural Annawan. The Rev. Dan Wright and the Rev. Terry Lancaster will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery . Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. Memorials may be left to the Dwaine Dynes Memorial Fund.

Dwaine was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Kewanee, the son of Lawrence and Frances Martin Dynes. He was a 1948 graduate of Annawan High School. Dwaine was united in marriage to Shirley Dexter on May 29, 1955, in Toulon, Ill.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Dwaine was a lifetime farmer in the rural Kewanee/Annawan area. He was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, Annawan Kiwanis Club, Henry County Farm Bureau, Henry Service Board for 15 years and served on the State Bank of Annawan Board of Directors for 35 years. Dwaine enjoyed fishing and playing golf.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two sons and spouses, Larry and Nancy Dynes, Atkinson, Gary and Tamra Dynes, Kewanee; six grandchildren (and spouses), Scott (Jill) Dynes, Matt (Amanda) Dynes, Tracey (Casey) Carton, Erica, Eva and Elissa Dynes; one great-granddaughter, Alexandria Dynes; and his mother, Frances Dynes, Geneseo. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Dynes.

Norman Isenhart
Norman E. Isenhart, 76, Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, formerly of Chadwick, Ill., died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the nursing home.

Cremation rites were accorded. There are no services. Arrangments are by Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Morrison.

He was born Feb. 3, 1931, in Chadwick, son of Oscar Earl and Mary Margaret Louise Hartman Isenhart. He married Shirley A. Friederich Aug. 12, 1952, in Savanna, Ill.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Norman, Mt. Carroll, Ill., Steven, Waldwick, Wis., and Nick, Chadwick; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Harriet French, Albany, N.Y., Bessie Rowland and Esther St. Ores, both of Freeport, Ill., Mary Brahms, Carlsbad, Calif.; brother, Paul, Huntley, Ill.

Raymond Schieler
Raymond W. "Ray" Schieler, 73, of Kewanee, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at his residence.

Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Evangelical, Kewanee. Burial is in Evergreen Memory Gardens, Kewanee, with military rites. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Rux, Kewanee.

He married Nellie Swanson Aug. 2, 1959. She died in 2000. He married Barbara Roberts Jan. 6, 2001.

Surviving are his wife; children, Gregg, Galesburg, John, Kewanee, Bryan, Sycamore, Ill., Mary, Normal, Ill.; one granddaughter; brothers, Harold, Kewanee, Richard, Chicago.

Joshua Steele
Captain Joshua Eric "Josh" Steele, 26, of North Henderson, died Sunday, June 17, 2007, near Panjway, Afghanistan, when the humvee in which he was a passenger detonated an improvised explosive device.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 25, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 218 W. Broadway Ave., Monmouth. The Rev. Christopher Haake will officiate, assisted by the Revs. Michael Monclova, John Thieryoung and Stanislaus Mutajwaha. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at the United North Fieldhouse, 101 N. Holloway, Alexis, with recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Burial is in St. John's Catholic cemetery , Oxford Township, 400 E. 100 N, near Woodhull. Memorials may be made to the Army Fisher Houses or the Bukoba Tanzania Diocese Education Initiative for the (Kwauso) Secondary School. Hurd Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Knoxville, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.

Captain Steele was born July 8, 1980, in Galesburg, the son of R. Philip and Paula Weir Steele.

He was raised on a farm near North Henderson and attended Immaculate Conception Parochial School in Monmouth and Alexis Community School. After graduating from high school at Missouri Military Academy in Mexico, Mo., in 1998, he received his degree in geological engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla magna cum laude in 2002, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity and the Society of Military Engineers.

From an early age, Josh wanted to be a soldier and defend his country. As a teenager, he had told his mother that "he was willing to give his life for his country." He was commissioned in the Army in 2002 and was stationed at Fort Leonardwood, Mo., assigned to the 5th and later the 35th Engineering Battalions. He previously was deployed in Iraq and the Republic of Georgia before being sent to Afghanistan in January 2007.

Josh was incredibly intelligent and was passionate about everything he cared about. He always stood up for the things he believed in. He was protective of those he cared about, including his country, his family and especially his little sister. While Josh was often quiet, when he spoke everyone remembered what he said. He was quick-witted, straightforward and very honest. Because of his passion, hard work, creativity, intensity and perfectionism, he was able to accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He enjoyed geological pursuits as well as raising and showing swine, horseback riding, hunting and life on the farm. He was a devout Catholic. He was a member of the 4-H and FFA in Alexis, civil air patrol in Galesburg, and was vice president of his junior class.

Survivors (and spouses) are his parents, North Henderson; brother, Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Stephen (Christine) Steele, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.; sisters, Gina Steele, San Francisco, Calif., Army First Lieutenant Lucinda (Nicholas) Piotrowski, Fort Sill, Okla.; grandparents, Harold and Madonna Steele, Sherwood, Ohio; nieces, Stephanie, Heather and Courtney Steele, Abigail Piotrowski. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Paul and Dixie Weir; and nephew, Jason Steele.

Ada King
Ada V. King, 97, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan.

Iona `Babe' Jaynes
Iona B. "Babe" Jaynes, 85, of Moline, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Interment will take place at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Island, of which she was a member.
Iona was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of William S. and Erma Eutsler Dusenberry. She married Charles P. Jaynes on Oct. 9, 1944. He preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 1991.

Iona was a former member of the Davenport Moose and VFW Post 1303 Ladies Auxiliary, Rock Island. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Tennessee, collecting Hummels and brooms, decorating goose eggs, canning, gardening and bingo. In earlier years, she enjoyed riding motorcycles, and she cared for her parents and husband late in their lives.

Survivors (and spouses) include daughters, Leota (Garry) Carmichael, Silvis, and Rebecca (Donald) Hinton, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Elaine Dusenberry, Rock Island; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, her parents, one sister and one brother preceded her in death.

Lawrence Verlin Lee
Lawrence Verlin Lee, 86, Moline, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Parkview Terrace, East Moline.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, East Moline, with visitation 10 a.m. to service time. The Rev. Rick McGough will officiate. Burial will be at Hampton Township cemetery , Hampton.

Verlin was born April 5, 1921, to Lawrence and Golda Galatin Lee.

He worked as setup and welder for John Deere Plow Planter, Moline, for 28 years, retiring July, 1987. He loved to work with his hands and did woodworking and crafts. He enjoyed time with his kids and grandkids, and loved his bird, "Alli." Verlin was a member of New Life Fellowship in Moline for 25 years.

He was born in Oklahoma and moved to the Quad-Cities, where he met his wife Lenora (Cox) Lee. They married in Macomb, Ill., on May 10, 1968.

He is survived by his wife; daughters (and spouses), Kay (Ron) Graham, East Moline, Brenda (Duane) Moffitt, Illinois City; sons, Donald Lee, East Moline, Cris (Samantha) Osberg, Hampton; grandchildren, Mark Beasley, Chuck Beasley, Kevin Crowe, Karen Crowe; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Fern Miller, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Harold Meier
Harold E. Meier, 88, of Moline, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Graveside services are 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Gray Mount cemetery , Coatsburg, Ill.

Harold Edward Meier was born May 5, 1919, in Galesburg, the son of William and Flossie Judd Meier. He graduated from Camp Point High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Rose Mary Haley on Sept. 23, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She died Oct. 4, 1979.

He was supervisor at the Rock Island Arsenal for 32 years, retiring in 1973. He belonged to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, and loved playing golf and tennis.

Harold is survived by a son, Joe A. Meier, Moline; four grandchildren and their spouses, Gary A. and Paula Meier, Moline, Penny and Eric Nelson, Geneseo, Neil and Mindi Meier, East Moline, and Christopher and Kimberly Meier, Davenport; 13 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Veryl Meier, Niota, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Gary E. Meier; and a sister, Ruth Wilkey.

Margaret `Eleanor' Knight
Visitation for Margaret "Eleanor" Knight, 91, of East Moline, will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Committal services will be in Forest Lawn cemetery , LaSalle, Ill., at 2:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, East Moline, where she had been a member.

Mrs. Knight died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.

Margaret Gray was born Dec. 13, 1915, in Peru, Ill., the daughter of Joseph and Agnes Wilson Gray. She married Stanley Knight on Feb. 29, 1936, in Marseilles, Ill. He died Sept. 18, 1985.

She had worked for the former Eagle Food Stores for nearly 20 years, retiring in 1974. She enjoyed playing cards, reading and spending time with her family.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Dale Adams, Rock Island, Sandy and Bob Butcher, Rock Island; grandchildren, Chris Martens and special friend, Dave DeCrane, Jill and her husband, Bob Morgan; great-grandchildren, Aron and Evan Fleetwood, Amy, Sarah and Anthony Morgan; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Evelyn Gray, Palm Desert, Calif.; close friend, Lois Cain, East Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and her grandson, Ronnie Rangel, who died in 1985.

Lois Adams
Lois L. Adams, 81, of Joy, died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Trinity Medical Center West, Rock Island.

Per her wishes, there are no services. Bewley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Aledo, assisted the family.

Lois was born July 27, 1925, in Mannon, Ill., the daughter of George and Mary Welch Diehl. She married Ira Adams on Sept. 19, 1946, in Aledo.

She loved to make quilts, do needle work and gardening. Lois was employed by the former Glove Factory and Fortner Nursing Home, both in Aledo. She farmed with her husband, Ira, from 1946 to 1975.

Survivors (and spouses) include, her husband of 60 years, Ira; son, Gary Ira Adams, New Boston; daughter, Elaine (Cliff) Anderson, Joy; grandson, Cliff (Jennifer) Anderson Jr., Alexis; granddaughter, Mary Adams, Sherrard, and friend, Mark Slusser; great-granddaughter, Kira Nicole Anderson, Alexis; brother, Elmo (Ella Marie) Diehl, Aledo; sisters-in-law, Nora Diehl and Jean Diehl, both of Aledo, Juanita Miller, Muscatine, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Rex and Cheryl McIntire, Keithsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Maynard, Glenn, Ivan, Earl and Kenneth; and two sisters, Grace and Margie.

Cherri Duncan
Cherri Duncan, 58, of Bagley, Wis., passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, Wis.

Arrangements are pending at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo.

Among survivors is her husband, Wayne.

Felipe Morales
Felipe Morales, 23, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of the Quad-Cities, died Sunday, June 17, 2007, at St. Luke's Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 22, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or RICCA (Rock Island County Council on Addiction), 1607 John Deere Road, East Moline, IL 61244.

Felipe was born Sept. 28, 1983, in Moline to Felipe and Maria Zepeda Morales. He was a cook for the Pizza Hut in Marion.

Felipe loved to tell jokes and was known as a jokester. He was always willing to help others and would take people under his wing. He also gave the gift of life when he donated his organs.

He is survived by his parents, Felipe and Maria Morales, Bettendorf; siblings (and spouses), Jose (Sherry) Morales, Marion, Ricardo (Nanci) Morales, Hebron, Ky., Lupe (Carlos) Salsido, Bettendorf, Elizabeth Morales, Bettendorf, Sandra (Juan) Rivera, Moline; nephew, Juan Felipe Rivera; nieces, Lola Salsido, Nancy Areli Morales; nephew, Van Charles Morales; grandmother, Maria Elodia Lopez. He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Miguel Morales; and maternal grandparents, Jose and Ester Zepeda.

Milton Bunzey
Milton R. Bunzey, 79, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at his home.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial will be in Edgington cemetery . Visitation is noon until service time Friday. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice.

Milton was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Rock Island, the son of Leslie and Rose Phillips Bunzey. He married H. Jean Kerns in July 1950, in Rock Island. Milton later married Betty Brown Kirk on July 23, 1982, in Rock Island.

He worked as a security guard at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island. In earlier years, he worked for Seifert Clothing, Rock Island.

Milton was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of First Evangelical Free Church, Moline. He enjoyed cooking and loved his family, especially the grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; children (and their spouses), Kathryn Bibelheimer, Tucson, Ariz., John (Marty) Bunzey, Taylorville, Ill., Roger (Susan) Bunzey, Laguna Woods, Calif., Jean (Frank) Armstrong, Davenport, and Gerry (Jim) Pohlmann, Davenport; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his mother, Rose Bunzey, Graham, Wash.; and sisters, Marge Cameron, Utah, Violet Adams, Washington, and Gladys Kerns, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Florence.
